Is R3 out yet for the x1a silver, because the SEUS says my phone is current with R2. I thought r3 was released a while ago. I'm so confused!
Thanks,
It's released for specific language versions of Xperia. I guess your language or your region doesn't have an update yet.
Or you have a branded Xperia like me. I have a Vodafone branded Xperia and I also can't update to R3 because there isn't Vodafone R3 software.
There isn't an R3A NAM (North America) available from anyone yet. My poor x1a thinks it's an x1i because I'm using an R3A with Windows Mobile 6.5 from the UK.

WTF...are you serious? Windows Mobile 6.5 is already released on the Xperia?
WM6.5 isn't released yet, but you can get it on this site. Just look at the top of the X1 discussion board on this site.
WM6.5 is beta, so it is still buggy. It doesn't stand up to day to day use for me, but it gives a nice preview of what is coming for WM.
Just tried SEUS again last night.
R2AA008 still the latest for NAM.
Let's keep this going. i also tried SEUS yesterday at work and it said R2A was the latest. I'm in North America with the x1a. When someone gets this update i will be so excited. i really, really want the upgraded reception.
I also tried SEUS last night and there was no new update. I am in NY.
Guys -there are already a couple of older threads on R3A...
Check out this thread
R3A has been appearing on SEUS over the last month, different countries and operators are coming online gradually...
For me (with Vodafone UK) I just got R3A via SEUS this past weekend -at last!
Better signal reported by many (I certainly notice it), but none of the goodies that were previously leaked (new panel mgr, xtract, new WMP, growing panel, etc. ...none of these -guess they will eventually appear in R4A)
So R3A is a bug-fix release ...nothing really new (but worth it for better signal IMHO)

I have been reading these threads for weeks. It seems that, like the release of the product itself, NAM wil be last to get a ROM update if at all.
I'm desperate for signal improvement because I live in a rural area.
My K790C reception kills the X1a but its lacking in features obviously.
I'd like to flash the UK R3AA0010 but I'm not sure if the radio will work well with AT&T's network
I finally got tired of being ignored by SE in NAM.
I installed the new 1.14 radio and corresponding rilphone file and am enjoying improved reception with a slight drop in battery life.
R3A0011 NAM available through SEUS
any idea if singapore have the R3A rom already??

This free update will be available to all current Atom Life users, and will involve either a download from the O2 Web site or a visit to one of its service centers.
The upgrade will change the operating system on the Atom Life from Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Phone Edition to Windows Mobile 6 (WM6) Professional. One significant improvement in WM6 is the ability to receive and send emails in HTML format.
Available from May 12, the Atom Life will become one of the first commercially-available Windows Mobile products to sport the newer OS. Atom Life handhelds sold in stores from June onwards will also be preloaded with WM6. In comparison, Dopod, which will be acquired by HTC, will be upgrading its selected devices to WM6 in July.
Furthermore, the enhancements in the O2 Atom Life like O2 SMS Plus and O2 MediaPlus have been tested on the new OS, and will still be available on the Atom Life after the upgrade.
In addition, O2 said it is testing WM6 on its upcoming Xda Flame as well, and that the rest of its products to be launched in 2007 will also sport the new OS.
At press time, O2 was not able to confirm if its other handhelds like the Zinc and Graphite would get the WM6 upgrade as well.

I suggest everyone to go to http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/handhelds/0,39001709,62011618,00.htm and send them feedback regarding the news they have posted. At least CNet will go bother O2 for us (if a lot of us annoyed CNet enough, heh he).
Can the first person to update PLEASE post here?
Also can we change the topic to "WM6 available FOR Atom Life" hehe
Can't wait, I'm picking up my new Atom Life tomorrow!!!!!!!
Damm it. It already close to end of the day here and still no news from O2 site!!!
14 May 2007--As of today, the update to WM6 is still unavailable on O2's Web site or at its service centers. O2 has informed CNET Asia that this is due to a delay in the approval process with Microsoft. The company hopes to release the update before the end of the week, but was unable to be more specific about exactly which day this will occur.
refer to CNET asia website::
http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/handhelds/0,39001709,62011618,00.htm
It's getting closer: the page for WM6 ROM upgrade is up at the official website:
http://www.seeo2.com/user/XdaAtomLife/template/XdaAtomLife_WM6_May2007_WWE.vm
I can see "Get the latest patches, utilities, software and upgrades here". in O2 site.
Still cannot download. Nothing there.
Wow, this topic is getting hot. I was contacted by CNet Asia about O2 delaying the release and hoping to tell you guys but it seems like someone else beat me to it.
Heh he... let see who'll the first to post when he/she successful upgraded to WM6.... but sigh.... I'll be outstation for a week. Waaaa
Xda Atom Life WM6 ROM Upgrade
O2 looks forward to bringing you the benefits of Windows Mobile 6 Professional operating system.
Do check back at this page over the next few days for when this exciting upgrade will be available.
Long long way to wait for a such upgrade package.
It seems like CNet is playing a major role in pushing O2 to inform us of the update progress.
I wounder if we could ask CNet to help us push O2 to hear our plight for other fixes.
hi but does anyone know if it could be use for Atom Exec?
Confirmed By O2 Hong Kong WM6 upgrade will be released within May 2007.

Err... if you would like to disable your Atom Exec... then you can try flashing it.
Anyway, unless someone here in the forum help you cook the ROM, then the answer is, No.
hi,
i called T-Mobile yesterday to enquire about them upgrading existing devices to WM6, i was told that if the manufacturer made the updatees available then so would they. i told them HTC were making updates available for their own brand devices so the girl went off to speak to the technical department and came back to tell me that i should keep checking the website as they were expecting some kind of updates to be available in june but couldn't tell me exactly what.
sounds promising...
Lets hope so!
Thats quite wicked.. not sure how the rom are going to compare to the rom's that have been cooked here but they have changed their tune...
They did say that they were not going to update the handsets and that you would have to purchase a different model..
We shall wait and see....
D
Bonus
Great news, then we can get something solid and supported back on our handsets and lets the ROM Chefs take a holiday (though probably a quick one!)
I can say if you are looking for something stable on tmobile UK....Black Dymond with radio 1.40.30.00 is a winner at the moment.
ROCK SOLID, i tested all beta versions (beta, RC1 and RC2) and this ROM has had alot of work put in it.
Hey everyone,
Been lurking on here for quite a while now. Just flashed my x1 to generic UK R3A rom. However I could not find any changes to the actual phone. The only thing I've noticed is that the camera doesn't take as long to take a picture, but no auto-flash also no new games or panels. Help please? Searched all through each X1 section but to no avail
Used Hardspl, Generic R3A UK ROM, Windows XP - ActiveSync 4.5
Thanks everyone
The answer lies in a couple of the R3 threads around... basically the R3 is a bug fix release and its surmised that the R4 ROM will be the holy grail...
If u want any other plus features u'll got to install it by urself... Have a look In ROM dev, and Apps and themes, u'll find a lot of great stuff for xperia, just like u want. Flash+geodata (cam), new games, and lots of apps... otherwise send me a pm and i'll help u
Presumably there is a good reason why SE removed the goodies from the R3AA ROM...
My brief experience when trying the R3AA with all the goodies thrown back in (from the ROM released by itje) is that the new Panel Manager is a bit buggy and conflicts with the HTC Task Manager, the new Media Experience Panel is buggy, doesn't run properly, and conflicts with the Radio Panel, and CPU usage (and therefore drain on battery) is somewhat higher.
I went back to stock R3AA with just the camera update, and I'm very pleased with it. Fast and stable, feels much better than R2AA. Landscape switching is so quick it actually makes the feature useable now.
R3A hasnt been officially released in the UK yet either so we will have to wait till it is released
i recommend the R3A update to everyone ur batterylife will be maximised
other then that i dont see anything new but thats a major update for the time being

not the UK
Hi guys,
Anybody has any news about the ROM upgrade for our topaz? It's 6th of October here in Malaysia but so far, no news. I heard Windows Marketplace is opened! I have checked the Taiwan website but yet still no news. I know Orange UK has announced that their ROM will be available only on the 12th.
Anyone has any other news?
I am looking for that answer too.
I sent an email to HTC asking about it. So far no news.
It is 15.57 here in Sydney.
I'm waiting aswell. I want to try out a official release from HTC. But I'll probably stick with the coocked roms seeing that a lot of the wm 6.5 phones here in the US are shipping with the old touchflo3D.
Can I ask a question guys....if I install the official ROM that comes out later do I still have to HardSPL it?
If you are still on the stock ROM and have not HSPL's then technically no you do not have to HSPL. As long as HTC posts an update for your phones original country of origin on the tech area of that countries site than you're good to go.
If the serial does not work you might consider HSPLing your phone and using the official rom when someone uploads it in the ROM development section. Doing a HSPL is quick and painless. Cooked Roms rule.
Ok this is what I got.
"Thank you for contacting HTC Service Support. Regarding your inquiry, much as we would like to provide you with the information unfortunately we still do not have the details yet. No information has been provided to when will the WM 6.5 upgrade for HTC Touch Diamond 2 be available. However if there will be any, it will be for free and can be downloaded form the HTC site. For now we really can’t tell since before upgrade is being provided, our technical department has to do series of tests and research first. Also any upgrades for a particular handset model are based on the demand of the Telecom Provider."
So, I guess we have to wait.
The upgrade for German Vodafone devices are on the support page of HTC Germany if anyone is looking for it.
Can't be like that
HTC have had months to get this into place so I find it hard to believe that we will not get the updates today. If that is the case then HTC have done very poorly in that case. Whilst other phones are coming with 6.5 I cannot see why the Diamond 2 shouldn't have an update on the day of release.
Updating your phone to Windows Mobile 6.5
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/meet/wm65-upgrade.mspx#phoneList
Your link didnt work!
Works fine for me but no mention of TD2, just 3 other HTC.
No phones have dates listed yet.
John
Just had an email from HTC and I quote... "we are awaiting confirmation from the software manufacture if the handset will receive an approved license or not"... I have a question.. why did HTC promise a wm6.5 upgrade if they are unsure if they can do it?!
I don't realy know if that is the problem. If you go to the Hong Kong windows phone webpage you will see that microsoft itself is promoting the upgrade.
So I can't see any reason why of why it is not out yet. Maybe they want to release it toguther with the American market. It is very early in the morning there yet.
I just checked on the Polish HTC site, but it looks like they do not know about that fact, that the upgrade should be today.
What is even better the customer service line number in Poland - when dialled - tells me "There is no such number!!"
This, I think, is outrageous & the HTC headquarters' guys should think with whom they cooperate in my beautiful country !!!!!!!
B-R-A-V-I-S-S-I-M-O HTC - worse can you not serve !!!

I don't get how there was a Vodafone branded 6.5 ROM listed on the German HTC site on the 4th and everyone else (who paid top dollar) with a network free phone has to wait indefinately for the official ROM......and I thought HTC were improving their customer support

That is what annoys me.. that we paid for our phones.. yet they have NO clue about what is going on with Windows Mobile 6.5! I should really buy out that firm and organise them properly!

The new firmware just released in Japan is R1EA025.
More details to come later as I play with it
u updated via?
I updated from the phone. So far the UI seems much more responsive. I gained a Mora Touch icon which is specific to this region, but other than that I haven't found anything else new as it's still too early.
Excellent news. Hopefully other regional handset updates shouldn't be too far behind.
Great News Hope we (Nordic firmaware) get an update soon as well
But that firmware must be older than there is now R1FB, that's R1EA therefore is older
Oh yes, i think you are right We have already R1FB001
Did you have any troubles updating? I've got 1.0.09 baseband and R1EA018 on my SO-01B but every time I try to do an update it says that I already have the latest version. I tried using the phone and the SE update service but neither one works. Any ideas why I can't update my phone?
UPDATE: It looks like this update was meant to be released in a few days but came out early by mistake. The update has been taken down as of around 9pm on the 28th. Sources: mineral85.blog16.fc2.com/blog-entry-162.html (5.28 postscript) and k-tai.impress.co.jp/docs/news/20100528_370243.html
Some of the improvements I notice with this new firmware is the battery life is MUCH better under constant use. It also charges much faster too. The touch screen is more accurate as well. I get less typing errors than before. Also a new keyboard was added for Japanese input.
According to Docomo this firmware wasn't supposed to be released until mid-June and they are asking their customers to go to the Docomo store to downgrade.

Another new keyboard for Japanese input..?? I like the one we've got now, what's different with this new one?
Edit: nevermind! i should've clicked the links first. It looks like the new keyboard is hanabi style like the iPhone.
