wtf???!!! i was using one then the page refreshed and its gone and now im stuck with a half done phone...what gives
Everything was merged into the main hero thread.
Thread locked and moved.
This Ridiculous
There were multiple threads, each taking a different approach , about various issues concerning the HERO rom. I know the mods are doing their job but this is extremely frustrating when a thread is actually helping you. I managed to get HERO rom working with Lawrence's thread and then I tried to push a new VK through another Tutorial thread but guess what ? It was removed and now my VK doesn't work. How am I suppose to ask questions? Where did the thread go?
If you are going to delete a thread, move it, or merge it, it would be extremely helpful if there is a sticky or something letting us know.
they were all saying the exact same thing in 40 dialects, it's repetitive useless information and doesn't really do anything but clutter the forums.
I dont see one thread with the information i am looking for? where is the consolidation? where are they merged?

I totally agree. This deleting of the threads is getting out of hand. I was almost done with the step by step instructions by lawrence when the thread was deleted!!
I guess the short answer to your question is don't venture into uncharted waters, i.e. messing around with a beta ROM that you have no idea how stable it will be, and not really having an understanding of exactly how to troubleshoot on your own. This is a developers forum, not a place to ask a thousand questions, each of which has either been asked or answered already.

that's my point. its too bad because the only reason i got hero to run was because of Lawrence thread. now where is it?
--Bakler--
I dont want to ask questions; i just follow the developers own tutorials and thats it. but im forced to ask questions when the thread im using is removed.
JustAnotherCrowd - HERO ROM
There was a thread on a rom JustAnotherCrowd was about to release, looked real promising but now its been deleted.... What's up with that?
i swear people really? are you fing serious?
read the instructions, understand what they are doing, then do it. this stuff is beta, its not even suppose to work on the g1. if you want a stable os on your phone then dont fck with it.
creating threads crying about how somethingdidnt work just looks childish.
if you want to ask a question, goto the irc where people are there to help each other. creating thread after thread or posting after posting isnt going to solve your problems...
As someone who is NOT rushing off to unstable hero builds, I for one do like the cleaning up of those threads. If its hero related, it should be kept in hero thread. There was one hero thread, and 4 'how to fix hero' threads. This clutters up the forum. Everyone is rushing to an unstable build to get to rosie UI and not realizing flashing to hero requires some knowledge and following directions extra carefully.
Either people should STOP making new threads for fixing hero, or people actually read before flashing it to see EVERYTHING that is required to do before loading it.
Thanks mods.
mods are deleting **** for joke lol
stop creating threads asking where threads went.

Quite a few people of being plain stupid and posting non-dev related question/topics in the dev forum... it's kinda becoming a a mess...
no I don't blame the admin or mods... i blame the ppl doing this stupid thing... HELLO!!! can't u guys see "Development forum" and understand that it's specific to dev stuff???
BTW, if you guys need help with getting ride of crap like this, I'm ready to help!!!
Posts like this are just as annoying..
nothing really you can do to help.
They should change that stickied thread to state, "please post any question threads in the general section." or something like that. What it says now really doesn't mean anything to me.
This is coming someone who was once guilty of this act. As a noob to that forum I thought, "hey a development section, i got a question about development, guess it goes here. "
Its quite easy to see all of them are making this mistake.
They really need to just change it so that completely new threads need to be approved (not posts).

I'm sure the mods would love that idea /s
IMO people shouldn't take offense to a topic being posted in the wrong section. If I have a request for an app section I don't know if that goes in development, themes & apps, or general.
I think the best solution is to create more categories. "Questions/problems" "mods/hacks" "accessories" and maybe one specific to devs where they get some type of posting approval on their profile allowing them to post in a development section.
The categories are far too general to know exactly where every post should go, in my opinion.

Still new to the android phones, but was once new to this forum. For someone who doesn't really know where they're supposed to post it's an easy mistake.
The mods take care of this, trust me. They write in every locked thread and moved thread why it was moved, etc. This is just annoying. To me, this looks more like you are asking to be a mod than anything. But I see your view.

Yeah, they do... but it's really annoying when someone posts a "how to flash" question in the dev forum... and no, I'm not asking for mod powers [in fact I don't want mod powers]... quite frankly I visit this site just once or twice a day... to busy with demos at work... I just want to know all the ways we can avoid this... anything to help the "super-mods" on this forum... yeah stickies are there... but some ppl just act dumb and don't even bother to read the stickies...

I may be new to this forum... (cuz I got my N1 just around that time... my first Android phone... and I never had any other phones for which this forum has threads.... but XDADev is a trusted, well known name...) I moderated MotorolaFans.com a couple of years ago, before I got too involved with office work, and I did have to deal with this crap there as well.
I guess ppl got the wrong impression from this thread (I think it's my fault, didn't word it correctly). I'm just looking for ways to make the mods' lives a little less frustrating... and to get crap outta the wrong forums ;-).
So basically, this thread was created as a way for you to not so subtly cry out that you want to be a mod. All this after only being on this forum for a few weeks. Gotcha.

Err... hello.... if u read my earlier posts... I said I DON'T want to be a mod... quite frankly, I don't have the time... and I'd land up doing a crappy job... I'm just saying, from personal experience, that a mods job isn't easy... and we, the users, need to contribute to keeping this forum clean...
Let me put this down properly...
1. I don't want to be a mod
2. I'm not doubting or complaining about the mods and the great work they do
3. There are only a few mods and thousands of users (that's some task)
4. We, the users, also need to help keeps things clean
So in short, what can I, as a USER, do to help improve this situation!!!
Ok, so as I was reading though the DC 2.06 thread trying to gain some knowledge and figure out any bugs/workarounds/tips/tricks I got to page 30 something and just had to post this.
PLEASE
PLEASE
PLEASE
Stop posting USELESS, POINTLESS, BLOATING, POSTS!!!
I'm not trying to be hostile or anything but posts like....
"booting it now!" and "waiting for files to copy back to my sd card." and "I'm only 50% downloaded, can't wait!!"
While yes... it's good you are excited, but honestly, 99% of us don't give a damn. It makes it freakin' IMPOSSIBLE to navigate through this forum!!! And I don't want to hear anybody cry "Search" either. vBulletin search is NOT the best out there. I think yahoo Boolean searches from 1997 were better. And you have to search with the most basic of keywords, and those keywords (like apps2sd) are used in so many POINTLESS posts that its again, USELESS.
I mean, there is basically NO moderation here. It's like XDA Hero CDMA forums isn't even here. Things just run amock.
Sorry if this post came off as a bit hard, but come on. I mean, COME ON. Let's ALL work together to make this forum a little easier to find information. Is your post asking a question or adding anything to the community? No? Then think twice about posting in a [ROM] thread. I know the Devs appreciate the positive re-inforcement of their ROMs and they deserve it! However I dont think ROM threads are the place for that, NOT ONLY THAT, but when threads such as DC's start as a 2.0 and then are updated to 2.1 then 2.2 then 2.3 etc etc etc and the original post of the thread is changed instead of creating a new thread, so therefor the first 200 pages aren't even remotely relevant to 2.3 they're still from 2.0!
Ok, I'm sorry...
[/RANT]
i'm not trying to be hostile or anything, and i don't have anything against this or you, but really.
there have been so many threads JUST like this before. they all say the same thing.
in the end, they become one of those 'useless' posts, because no matter how many times you say this, its probably not going to stop people from making useless posts. sorry
AGREED! And it didn't come of hard to me!
Plus, those posts are more useful than this one. At least they give the dev, who worked for hours or days or months on the ROM, the satisfaction of knowing people appreciate it.
This post, on the other hand, accomplishes nothing.

I moderate 3 other vBulletin forums. Mainly car forums, with 50,000+ members. I have no problem keeping them clean, and would not mind spending some of that time over here too. Hell even if I'm the only one doing it that's better than nothing!
thats definitely the worst thing about this forum. we don't have any active mods on this one. most other forums do. not us.

Yeah although u are correct in ur intent. The best way to get these issues taken care of is for our forum to get a mod that actually spends time here and doesn't mind being hated. I personally have tried to get them to make me a mod. But I guess u gotta be someone special to get that privilege. As I always do what they ask of me then never here a reply ontheir decision. Our forum is held down by the fact we don't have subforums like general, themes and apps, q&a and so on. But yeah the only way to get are issues resolved is to contact the mods and ask them to help us.

ROFL This post made me laugh. Its so true, those posts are useless and offer nothing to the Rom maker.
I like the idea of the developers having something like a discuss thread where the good jobs and such can continue be posted for the roms. It becomes pretty difficult looking through the thread to find useful tidbits when it gets to be over 50 pages or so.
I do agree that having a moderator would be of great benefit too. +1 for toast becoming a mod.
U cant fix stupid :-/ people think posts counts make them cool. Posting one word replies followed by 10chars. Itll never be fixed, too many idiots. Just be happy we dont have that gay rep system.
Personally I like treasure hunts, so I am pretty happy the way things are. Lol.
Joking aside, I think that this is one of the strongest online communities/forum that I have joined and cared about. I think that the slack the moderators allow has allot to do with how I feel about this community. People are allowed to have a personality, a opinion, and a sense of humor here. It is very nice to come to a forum like this.
The way I read the long ROM threads is read the first page then go to last page and work my way backwards... works well for me. I see the updates the ROM creator posted and then the latest information being passed along that way.
Thinking about what i read now........ can't wait to finish..
LOL no really i do wish we could kindly ask the Devs to start a new thread upon each major revision and maybe put a link in the new thread to the previous version's tread. then post like mine about may not become as frustrating to read do to the lower volume of them.

Actually he is trying to make this forum more manageable. Which IMO you would have to be blind not to realiese. Seriously 300+ pages are really hard to go though. And sometimes in threads ill see a theme or something cool and ill feel like good thing I read every post in that thread or I wouldnt have that. It feels like some really cool stuff gets barried in the threads.

Damageless is trying to fix finding updates and themes with his updater tool. The updates will come to you! How cool is that? He is also going to try to help other devs to include a updater on their ROMs. Although this will not fix how cluttered the threads are in this forum it will assist you in finding the latest and greatest ways to trick out your Hero.
the only thing that should change is just every time a fix is found the OP should just take the fix and put it in the first post. People should be able to flash a rom and have the fixes all in the first post, this way people dont ask repeat questions. Whether or not everyone likes it people are always going to post "useless" stuff, which can be viewed as appreciative thanks or just people showing their excitement. I personally like xda a lot because people have personality its not all just straight discussion about a rom or anything like that.
Maybe we just could have a separate subforum for each major ROM? that way there could be the threads for people rambling and such, and separate threads for bug fixes, releases, etc.
I'm new 'round here (obviously), and I have to agree, finding the information I need has been difficult with every thread being hundreds pages. Finding that one post of someone with the same problem as me (and a solution) is a monumental task.
Just give each rom author a thread for people to leave their thanks, and keep the rom threads to discussing the rom.
+frickin1 for this thread. I think we should just start a poll to vote for someone here to be a mod, and just make the current XDA moderators accept that we have that mod... it's just ridiculous how it is right now.
what about in-thread stickies...there has to be a plugin for it somewhere...where you can nominate posts as thread stickies and all of the thread stickies, once approved by the OP, move to the beginning of the thread, so it would go
1st Post: OP
2nd Post: First approved helpful post
3rd Post: 2nd approved.... etc
that way all of the useful stuff will be right on that first page. If it's not already a plugin...it should be.

Is it possible for a topic starter in a dev tread to clean his own tread in the futere?
Mayby it's a idea to ad that option if a topic starter asked that.
And that they can only clean his/her tread?
I think it make yours and theirs live a lot relaxer.
You don't need to watch every tread. And the dev can keep his tread cleen without spamming and the same question over en over again.

You can make rules before you ad the option. Like new members.
The dev need (for example) a least 100 post* before they can ask you for the option. Then you can screen the past of that person . And if they misbehaving. Then we (the not dev people) have many options to contact you. And after you warning a dev. The next time he goose across the line, he lost that option for good ...
But this is just my opinion. And again, I thinks this good really worked.

No, rules are fine as is. And this is in the wrong section
Yeah I think this is a good idea
I think the idea is good in theory, however I don't see it being as good in practice. First, the devs rarely post anyway. I don't think they also want the responsibility of cleaning their own threads. To be honest, it is usually not the devs complaining about off topic. It's the senior members who have self assigned themselves forum police. I can definitely see something like this getting out of hand or misused.
I think the 10 posts minimum to post in the dev threads is both part of the problem and solution. Now we have noobs posting new threads wherever they can just so they can get a question answered or get their post count up. The problem is that they didn't LEARN anything by that rule. At the end of 10 forced posts they are still wanting an answer to their dev questions, so they post it in a dev thread anyway.
With xRecovery and the increasing ease of modifying your phone, more and more less experienced people are hacking their phones. Those people are inevitably going to have more questions, and the current "devs only" approach leaves them no option but to post in the devs thread.
I think the recent trend of linking a discussion thread to the dev thread is a more feasible and fair way to go. It would be better if somehow xda could link the discussion thread, rather than having a link hidden amongst the posts.
JMHO
Something such like this isn't possible, only if you would create in the Admin Control Panel a special usergroup to move devs to it. Just to much work for such a little thing.
this is not a good idea
and this would be apparent if people have been here for a length of time
im gonna give a scenario here
ok developers can mod their own threads. what if that same dev then does something bad and underhanded, and then a member in the threads knows and posts it in the thread (this has actually happened before). the dev then goes and deleted all traces of this from the thread so the moderators never know of the developers wrongdoing
in a perfect world this maybe a good idea
however at the minute no. this would allow a developers too many tools to cover up any moment of ill judgement
Not a good ideal for me. I'm sorry

Im referring to the fact that there now seems to be topics that seem to be unnecessarily stickied.
Why do we need 5 kernels to be stickied? We could have a single sticky with links to important kernels in there. There just isn't any need for all these on same page.

Lol, I wasn't suggesting just 1, or implying that's what you meant. I simply added a worthless post to a pointless thread.
No matter what you sticky and what you don't, there will be people saying it should be otherwise.
As with most things in life, It is what it is, live with it, or if it matters so much (and your angry response suggests it annoys you quite a bit) then work at becoming an admin and then you can decide what should and shouldn't be stickied, just like this forums mod and the winmo dev section mod decided on the current sticky list.

Just cos you don't have a use for a sticky doesn't mean someone else doesn't either.
maybe this forums mod is playing with kernels and wanted them all handy? His / her prerogative to sticky them if (s)he wants.
I agree, too many stickies. When using a browser I have to scroll half way down the screen before I can actually see new and active topics. It's not so bad on tapatalk.
One sticky with a link to the various kernels would suffice, right now it just looks messy imho.
Lets not end up with a fight again, at the end, someone will get banned..
I agree, way to many stickies....
I agree that there are too many stickies.
The NAND forum is pretty old now, and there's a wealth of information kinda scattered about.
It does seem that it's time for some housekeeping, it would be nice to have the most frequently needed info re-organized into a few sticky threads that have links to their related resources.
One of the big reasons we have so many 'Please help me I'm a noob' threads is because new members are overwhelmed by the tons of info that is there to help them, but so hard to navigate that they give in and ask for help.
(I know they should use the search function, you know it, but they're panicking because their phone is bricked and they can't think of the correct keyword for the life of them.)
It doesn't seem so disorganized to the experienced members because we've been here forever and are just used to it.
You go into a hoarder's house and ask where the toilet paper is, and they tell you 'Duh it's in the foyer where it's always been'.
If it is ultimately decided that any of the HD2's fora need to be re-organized, I don't mind with helping out.
At least the xda app separates the stickies on to a separate tab. I've been using it more and more now
Made a compilation thread

Having important dev topics stickied is greatly important to the ongoing development of android on the hd2.

Seriously I am TIRED of seeing posts like these in the DEVELOPMENT SECTION of the HD2. If this was the Q and A section I'd still help you. But I feel inclined to post useless stuff on this thread as you have not bothered to read ANYTHING before coming here.
I know everyone starts new, but so did I and I certainly did not post in the DEV section first.
So please, get a mod to move this thread and then I may help you

first off, this post was addressed to developers because ive been told that it has a unique issue with this phone, not model of phone. second, if your not a developer, then its not addressed to you. scroll past it. third, calm down. its just a post. not, the MAGNA CARTA. im not trying to reform or change the way this forum works, im simply doing what i was told to and trying to find a developer that MIGHT need to write a different code for this phone. thats why i posted it here.

Development - where people post their work and things they have made.
Q&A - where people ask questions and have them answered.
There really is no justification of posting this in the development section, so please don't argue about that. You made a mistake, just admit you were wrong. As for your issue you really need to give us more detail. Also, if you think developers are going to take their time to specifically help you as an individual when the chances are you're the one who's made some mistakes then you're sorely mistaken.
Now, as for your issue, you haven't given enough detail. What were the exact steps that you followed? Did the things recommended earlier help?
