Look at the data-sheet, they have different hardware inside.
Greetings
The XDA Orbit 2 is the equivalent to HTC Polaris / Touch Cruise on this forum not the Iolite / Touch Cruise 2.
Differences
The 2 models are quite different
The XDA Guide or as this forum calls it, the iolite has twice as much memory and a faster processor, 528 Meg
Also Called
O2 XDA Orbit 3
HTC Touch Cruise 2
HTC Touch Cruise 09
HTC Polaris 200
The O2 XDA Orbit 2 has only a 400 Meg processor
Also Called
HTC Touch Cruise
Dopod P860
Some of these alternately named phones have slightly different shells, but are basically the same internals
EDIT: (To clarify here, the 2 phones are definately 2 different phones, but the different styles of each of the phones, eg, HTC Touch Cruise and O2 XDA Orbit 2, which are the same phone, have slightly different shells )
I have an O2 XDA Guide and an O2 XDA Orbit 2
The guide is slightly smaller and faster with the software better put together
Both are VERY good phones
Differences
Here are the pics of the phones,
O2 XDA Orbit 2 is the larger one,
The Iolite or O2 XDA Guide is the smaller one
No chance, we cannot make, that these phones will be twince
I say it again:
different hardware = different phone
Maybe the same color, but devinitivly different phones.
Different phones = different OS
Maybe some apps are the same, but devinitivly different OS
Greetings
100% yes, after using the guide now for 24 hours,
There are many differences in the OS, the guide is far better even to a slider to answer calls, one way to answer, the other to ignore, well thought out.
The guide is also a lot faster, leaves the Orbit 2 for dead,
Really impressed with the guide and well worth the money

Hi Folks,
I need a bit of help choosing my next PDA, I've had loads of pocketPC, windows mobile devices inc. HP Jornada 548, Tosh 540, Dell X5, iPAQ hx4700 but this will be my first forage into "convergance" devices.
I was originaly tempted to upgrade my phone to the Orange UK version of the HTC TyTN but i'm now getting cold feed with all this talk of new devices due out, I know there are always newer and better just around the corner but I don't want to jump into a 12 month contract just to find a newer and better unit being available next week.
My dilema is this.....after seeing the specs for the O2 Zinc with the Xscale 520Mhz processor and seeing the benchmarks against the TyTN I'm now more inclinded to wait the for the release of this Zinc (26th March 07), however on my travels through the tinternet I have stumbled upon what I would consider my ideal device...the HTC Kaiser, does anybody have any ideas which network will be carring this device and when it will be released????
I'm fairly sure the overwelling opinion on the site will be for the TyTN but I just need to know what makes this device a "No Brainer" compaired to the O2 Zinc.
Cheers Jim

Not really the answer you want, but my philosophy on life is, get the best you can today and not worry about what's out tomorrow... otherwise you'll never get anything because you'll always find that a month or so down the line something better will come out... so to say!
Otherwise, the Zinc does seem impressive... but O2 have already delayed the release once, so who's to say it will actually be out at the end of march anyway
True....Very True. The exception to that case was the iPAQ hx4700. which in my opinion is still one of the very best PDAs out there and its now 2 years old ???
I decided to hang back for the release of the Zinc hoping WM6 will be on it. have you tried flashing your rom to wm6??? if so did you have any problems setting the phone back up for T-Mobile??

I'll agree with you on that... I used to have a hx4700 myself... it was the VGA aspect that appealed to me, but I felt it was before its time... oh, and slightly big!
I think the Zinc will have v5.2 on it???
I've flashed my MDA several times and can almost memorise the internet/mms settings that takes approx. 2 mins to put back in... its all good fun
You may never flash WM6 on a Zinc...

Yeah - similar case here. I flash frequently and I could probably set it all back up again the way I like it with my eyes closed Top tip: get CAB files for all your favourite apps (and any relevant serial numbers) and keep them in a folder on your storage card. That way you can even get all set up from a full reset with nothing but your phone.

Absolutly agree.... I kept all my CAB files on my SD card..Just incase.. but that was WM03se. Is there a HTC "official" rom update available for wm6...where did the wm6 roms come from?? oh and whats the best...
back to the original question,
I own a TYTN and ive had good test run with the Zinc, even though the Zinc has a faster OS the tytn feels faster and reacts better. The finish of the Zinc is a big cheap looking too.
If i was to buy a new phone today it would be the Tytn again, if i was to wait then it would be kaiser or even one of the new samsungs.
Cheers lads.....Just bought a TYTN - Orange SPV M3100 to be more precise.
Now whats the score with all these ROM upgrades.
and is there a today plugin simliar to the Orange today screen
Problem with O2 is the data charges. They're probably the worst out of all the UK networks!
I'd hate to get a phone like the Zinc or Kaiser and have to constantly monitor my data useage.

That's far too big a question. You've got some reading to do - see the wiki
for the mods.. you can delete this message if you want...
i just want people warned specially in asia region that o2 zinc is not that good ..
although better processor ( but you will not see the difference compare to HTC hermes ),camera and o2 integrated software..
THere are many other choices on O2 products... Atom exec, atom life..etc..
Just not this is O2 Zinc is not worth recommending....
or im strongly recommending HTC HERMES (Dopod 838 pro, Softbank, or the HTC Tytn if available) if your fun of slide keyboard...
I promised you this will be a great help on you...
Trust me...
I just want you to be happy like me now..
Damn that new HTC Diamond looks impressive (http://www.htc.com/europe/product.aspx?id=46654). Anyone know if it will be possible to rip the software/rom out of it and install on our Polaris'es?
"Nothing is impossible, what's impossible just takes longer time."
normally htc should put this diamond in new rom wm.6.1 if they will do it, I ask them but they answer (we are working hard....)
More info from London:
http://www.phonemag.com/htc-touch-diamond-is-announced-demoed-052686.php
It looks damm good indeed.
Hope the firmware can be used for the Polaris..only the camera is a 3.2mp..that's a bit low for a new model if u ask me..other gsm's work with 5mp at this moment.
And also the polaris has a 3.2 mp already.
It WILL have WM6.1 but... it is too soon to talk about software for this upcoming device.

Damn impressive handset. I was wondering how much of native WinMo interface available to end user? The less is better, I suppose
Here you can see better :

A lot of videos : http://it.youtube.com/user/HTC
Diamond is VGA device, so i'm not sure that it will be possible to use GUI from it on Cruise which is QVGA.
Also question is about acceleration and drivers, cause this features would be really slow on Cruise.

Touch Cruise has 4 times less pixels than Diamond.
Processing power shouldn't be the limiting factor.
Sascha
The manila interface was out for a couple of months ago, but nobody was able to port it into a Kaiser:

I think it was time to release a new designed model, the formers models were not so beauty, finally an answer from HTC to the new requirements of the market.
Good Luck HTC....!!!
HTC Diamond will be shipped as O2 xda Diamond in june 2008.
100 € for the unit, 20 €/month with 100 minutes to all national networks.
Preinstalled are TomTom 7 (maps have to be purchased at TomTom) and Opera Mobile 9.5
teltarif.de News
Pretty awesome device and much cheaper as iPhone
Sascha
I was just about to buy a touch cruise.
Damn it beats the crap out of iPhone!
Does anyone remember we all said we won't be buying another HTC product?
We are suckers (well, at least I am) really.
ok selling a polaris then, wtb diamond
I'll wait someone will sell his Diamond
Hi I'm new to the forum, and i've just bought my shiny new Orbit 2.
I look through the forum and seen lots of different roms posted, but just wanted to know if their is any specific rom that people would recommend for the 02 Xda Orbit 2.
I in particular like HTC's interface, with the touchflow 3d if it's possible to get that working.
Also, could i just ask, does the 02 Xda Orbit 2 have a giro built in like the Touch cruise model from HTC, as i believe they are almost identical.
Rich.
Hi Rich,
i don't know what you mean with "giro built in", but the technical features are identic to Touch Cruise. Basically you can use any ROM from Polaris for your Orbit2.
3D is not really working at the moment. Latest Custom-Roms are delivered with the Manila 2D interface. The look&feel is akin to the 3D Version, but without heavy animations . See Screenshots in the different ROMs. (e.g. c_shekhar or 3lit3)
It doesn't exists "the best ROM". Every ROM has pro and con. Compare the feature lists and choose which is the best for you.
brand new looking htc touch hd with whole loads of give program like tomtom navigator, coreplayer and every big program with latest upgraded 6.5 rom if any one wants to swap with htc hero
yes ofcourse unlocked htc touch hd plz do PM.
and yes in U.K
???
don't mean to be negative, BUT
you don't actually think someone would make this trade,,,,,,,, do you?
good luck !
I have a piece of string, slightly used. Anyone want to swap for Hero?
get your htc touch on ebay £270 easy for one of them and put the rest to a hero.
Or wait til some clever barsteward ports android to the htc.
I really do like my Uni but it is just too big to use as a phone. At present I carry use the Uni purely as an organiser. Can any one recommend a phone that has the following.
Keyboard
2.8" screen or larger.
Windows Mobile OS (but willing to consider others)
Smaller than Universal
The difficult bit is it must have IRDA. So this seems to rules out all the new phones. Any suggestions would be great.
HTC TyTn (Hermes)

If $ is not a problem: HTC Rhodium
There isn´t really a "Replacement", Universal is considered a piece of art on Mobile World
For having another reference: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=443421&page=3
Thanks for the quick replies guys.
The HTC TyTn (Hermes) would be perfect but they are very difficult to find in the UK. So may need to buy one from the USA.
HTC Rhodium unfortunately has no IRDA.
Totally agree that the universal is one of the best devices ever made. It replaced my aging Psion 5MX which in its day was the best organiser with a fantastic keyboard. It seems strange that such well loved devices are not replaced with newer versions. It has taken 10 years for a serious replacement for the Psion to be made but it costs £500.
Search over ebay.co.uk, theres a lot SPV M3100 devices
I have had a look on pdadb.net and notice that there was a HTC released in the USA by Verizon called the XV6800. It seems to be the same as a Hermes but with built in GPS. Doeas anyone know if this was ever realesed in the UK.

Only the Hermes 100 (i-mate JASJAM, Orange SPV M3100, Cingular 8525). The display on the Hermes 200 (TyTN) is garbage - it's a transmissive display and it turns completely black in sunlight. Hermes 100 had a high quality transflective screen.
