News Widgets Cause Major Batt Drain? - G1 General

All of a sudden today my batt went from fully charged to yellow in less than 4 hours (no gps, wifi, didn't even barely use it). BUT... I did install 2 news widgets (engadget; gizmodo).
I'm just wondering if they are batt hogs and how often do they check for new news?
Thanks

I was having the same problems when i updated everything with jf updater app, so I decided to re flashed everything all over againc 1.51 image and latest radio with my computer and now the battery last a lot longer, so this solved my problem.

[WP7]Heavy Battery drainage!

full charge 0% after 10h no data or wifi activated! can you confirme ?
nope I had a pretty good battery drain on wp7 even better than winmo 6.5
try to reinstall wp7.
if the problem persists contact the DFD for the problem
and don't forget that this is not a official release from DFD so there are some minor bugs
wait for next releases for a better experience
make sure you have hspl 2.08! good luck!cheers!
thanks guys! i will do a full instal from scratch! i suspect a calibration probleme
installed android then i did a full charge! after that i install wp7! but still have the heavy drain ! what radio version are you using
I charged my phone last night took it off the charger and when i woke it had 10% left :S

Yes. I had the same problem in day one.
I haven't done much testing yet, but I was thinking my battery seems to be lasting very good.... at least in standby. 8-10 hours since I took it off charger and it looks like the battery meter only went down about 20%... so there's still 75-80% left! But like I said, I haven't done that much with it today except play around a few times for 5-10 minutes at a time.
No problem for me.the battery life is very good.
maybe its related to sd card class?! can you give your radio rom version?
Last night i fully charged the battery before sleeping
no wifi or Data nothing
today morning 60 percent gone
but day before yesterday i didnt have this problem, i installed few apps recently (attentive phone, htc hub, fb n few games)

my one is having the same radio and im experiencing high battery drain
battery drain fast,, same here.. run out after 10 hours...
if i used android,,usually 30% would left after 10 hours' usage
Have you checked it without SD card? (to see if it's SD card related)
I have pretty good battery drain, too. Radio 2.15, some crappy 512MB SD-card, data and wifi on, mail/facebook/twitter/google sinc on (every 30mins).
Running for ~ 13h, including WP7 installation, testing, all the setups, etc.
Battery went from ~70% (was not fully charged) down to ~20-30%.
okay guys..seriously a stupid question...how do you check the battery drain with percentage??wp7 has no battery percentage..or is there somewhere i cant see it???i am using wp7 with 8gb class 6 and is fine with radio 2.15!i have it for 10 hours and my battery went down to the half from fully charged..!

you don't (and currently can't, not supported by WP7 API yet afaik) =) you can either estimate by the width of the battery bar, or wait until battery is at 0%.
Can it be that the battery indicator is not reading correctly or that the calibration is incorrect. I had a full battery and one hour later it flashed a low battery message. I booted into Android on the sd and the battery showed 78%.
i had good battery .. when you going to sleep off location and data
Batterylife is OK for me. With push mail ON, some calls, some mails and attachment viewing and 2 market place installs + 2 photos taken I'm at 50% after 12 hrs. It's not grounbreaking but OK. I friend has a HD7 and his unit usually lasts a day. So don't expect miracles from the battery My SD in SanDisk 4GB Class 4.
Yesterday it was GAME OVER after 6 hrs but with at least 200 MB data downloads, over 1 Hrs ot voice calls and constant playing around with the phone.

battery draining too quick

hmmm i don't get it:
after doing a successful flash according to virnik0's procedure http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818556 everything was fine - for a couple of weeks or so..
battery would last for days and days just in standby - then suddenly it started to run down pretty quick - now it lasts not even 24 hours - and that is even without any usage at all - just lying there on my desk - idle..
i have absolutely nothing running - no wireless - no programs running - only the mobile network connection - all other programs stopped..
i even bought a new battery - but same problem - less than 24 hour standby on idle.. not even making 1 telephone call..
i also tried resetting the battery..
would it help to do a complete re-flash?
My first guess would be, that you installed / updated an app which goes crazy now.
You can rule out every app that is preinstalled, from google or commonly used (such as titanium backup) .
You can try to uninstall these apps one by one and see if the drain persists.
If so I'd flash a full ROM without installing additional apps. After that you'll have to wait 2-3charges until the battery indicator is accurate again. If the drain is still there it could be a hardware problem.
I think reflashing will fix the issue but don't hold me to it
good luck

I am having the same issue. My battery after flashing 2.3.3 JVK was fabulous. now it is not even lasting for a complete day with no wifi and 3g.
I guess i did wipe the battery stats , after which i am getting these crazy values. I am going to wipe the battery stats after my phone is fully charged and see if anything happens.
i guess there is a guide somewhere in these forums that we have to complete recharge, do a wipe and completely discharge and do a wipe again. please have a look at Battery issue threads in XDA.
Hey, check this thread, there are some interesting observations.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021711
I don't really believe in wiping the battery stats. They have to be rewritten and that also takes time and gives confusing values in the mean time. Just using the phone normally and always discharging as low as possible while always charging full is my approach.
With JVK it's another story, I think no one knows exactly what causes the drain. it could be the update but I also suspect the gallery, I overwrote the gallery3D.apk with a 2.2.1 version and the drain seemed to disappear. But that's not even a observation, more a feeling since I flashed an restarted several times in the past days since I flashed JVK so I'm more or less just trying a lot at the same time and hope something works
Thank you theduckking - yep did that too - uninstalled all apps not needed but still draining too much - so I am inclined to re-flash..
So you say I can try just reflash ROM - is that also via ODIN? and how do I know which ROM to flash and what it is called?
lycan_codex - yep I did do a battery re-set also in recovery mode - following the procedure from another post - didn't help either
I recommend Odin.
It doesn't really matter which ROM, you could take darky's resurrection edition to have a minimal odin rom.
but flashing a romkitchen (wipe) rom through CWM should also do the job
or you head over to [Ramad]'s thread choose a stock odin firmware (some scrolling required) and flash that.
If you find, that the drain is fixed after installing a minimal rom, you can flash a bigger/fuller ROM over it through CWM and customize it and live happily ever after.

Android System Process battery drain sense kitkat (4.4.2) update

Has anyone had issues with really bad battery drain on newest update?

I haven't noticed a drop in battery life after upgrading from CM10.2 to stock 4.4.2.
I have very few apps on my phone and I keep wifi and data off when I'm not using my phone.

It was my GPS eating up my battery. Mixed with the weather channel app. My battery was dead in 7 hrs.

Bad Battery Life
Hi
Yes, I have noticed a dramatic drop in battery life. I use to get home from work about 6pm with about 50% battery life. Now by 2pm I'm less than 10%.
No Bluetooth. No GPS. No NFC (this was originally on when getting to 6pm). WiFi on. WiFi Off. Doesn't matter. Turned location services to battery save or off. No new apps.
I have converted runtime to ART (worth having a read up on this), which can potentially give up to 20-30% better battery.
The funny thing is at home with full WiFi and strong 3G reception the battery life is exceptional! 2-3 days standby (light/medium use). The 3G reception at work.
A friend suggested that possibly the radio (3G) isn't locking on to a specific tower and keeps bouncing between towers chewing up the battery.
I will try a factory reset and see if it fixes the problem. From what I've been able to discover online it doesn't seem to be a very common problem.
Same Here
My girlfriend is having the same problem with battery drain.
GPS is off and she's using Wi-Fi at home.
When Google rolled Kit Kat OTAs I had to wipe her phone and flash the official Mako factory images to actually get it updated. So the phone isn't rooted and It's completely stock now. The 4.4.2 OTA update installed just fine. Then she noticed the poor battery life. Android system and Android OS are the 2 highest battery users in the list (will try to get a screenshot of this later)
Is the factory reset working for any one?
Has a reinstall of the factory images fixed this?
Any other suggestions?
Just wanted to ask everyone before I spent a bunch of time on it.
Thanks so much!
factory reset doesn't resolve
I did a factory reset and the issue still exists. I have removed 1/3 of my apps, 80% of the photos on my phone. I tried running Bluetooth off 100% of the time. Turned off location reporting. Turned off syncing any Google service I wan't using. None of these helped. My problem is intermittent. I will make a change then go a couple of days thinking "problem solved," then on the third day massive battery drain reoccurs. I think the battery monitor in the OS is unreliable when this occurs becasue it will report an app like "Flixter" as the main source of the drain. The next time it will be mediaserver, or TV Guide.

Same problem.
I have read millions of forums and this problem is not going away. I also have intermittent battery drain - it works for a few days and then everything goes back to sh-it. I've tried everything - deleting apps, turning off all services i don't use, power saving mode, sync, GPS, and nothing works.

Thanks for that note! I know my gf uses the weather channel app. Will tell her to remove it.
On a similar note. Now a few months later now and her battery wont hold a charge for more than 2 hours and wont charge to 100% every time. Her phone is only a year old. luckily she called google 2 days before the 1 year warranty was up. They sent instructions on safe mode and some other tips. Hopefully she'll end up with a new battery and i'll make sure shes not using weather channel haha.

Normal battery drain over night?

Hi guys,
I have SM-N900 Note 3 and was worried about the battery life.
I factory reset it and only signed in with my Gmail account.
I left it for 7 hours at night, and the battery has drained from 100% to 93%.
Is it normal? I always thought Note has much better battery life and without nothing running in the background it should drain like 1%-2% over night.
what do you think?
(running stock Samsung firmware, 4.4.2. no SD card)
Thanks
If all working well my Note 3 would drain about 2 % overnight, (thats on wifi with BT, GPS on, no power save, no blocking of any type), anything above 5% I usually start looking for the cause. But to be honest with original 4.3 I rarely had to look, since I updated to 4.42 it's all over the place from as high as 20% to as low as 2 % and I can't pinpoint the cause, which drives me insane. ATM it's running about 4-5%, which I'm not too happy about and if it get's any worse I will start deleting everything until I get this phone under control. I have couple chinese tablets, where inside the settings there is a menu where you can stop programs from start at the boot up time, I search everywhere and I can't find anything like that on the Note, but since I'm rooted I can freeze or delete stuff, maybe not the best solution but it works.

woah, so many crossed data about your %.
and yeah - since you're rooted, you can install Xposed and install BootManager module, so you can see which apps are running from the boot.

greenfiy is the best software for us
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155737
2% overnight - 7 hours - for me. Data on, no sync at all, weather widget update every 30 minutes, KK, Faux kernel.
0% - If I turn on Powersave when Screen Off in Performance Profile(Xposed Module). It is amazing with of course a slight delay when turning it on. [Around 8hrs]
1-2% - Depending if my network is stable. Wifi-on. Zooper Widget not greenified. [Around 8hrs]

Battery drain!

I don't know what the hell is going on with my Note 4 (SM-N910F), but my battery is draining a lot faster then it ever has. A couple months ago i rooted my phablet, tried out two or three different custom ROMS (Omega was one of them), but my Note 4 got so hot it got into a bootloop as soon as I entered my PIN. I reflashed stock ROM and it was back to normal again, but lately it started to warn me for low battery (the 5% warning) and turn off itself in seconds even when i had 20-30% battery left. This didn't happen every day, but it was annoying. So i re-rooted and installed CM 12.1 thinking it was the 5.0.1 and 5.1.1 stock updates. The first night I charged it all night but only got 83% battery when I woke up 9-10h later. Today when I was scrolling FB with 35% battery left, the phone warned me about low battery and dropped to 5%. Is it possible that the battery drain is because the overheating could have caused some damage to the phone/battery? I tried calibrating the battery two times, did everything I could find on the net, but nothing helped. I would like to know if there could be something more than the battery that could cause this because I don't want to buy another one for nothing.
you could try to re-calibrate your battery, you can find a app for that on playstore.
is your phone still getting hot when your battery drain is high?
you could post an image of your battery stats from settings or better battery stats so we can see, why it's empty so fast
I already tried that two times, it did make the battery last a bit longer but the 35%-5% problem is still there. I'm new to XDA so I can't upload the screenshot but I can't see any app or activity that's draining the battery. I've done everything I could find in the forums (lower screen brightnes, turned off auto wake, even downloaded kernel adiutor and changed some settings a guy posted) but nothing has changed.. I'm just wondering if it's the battery that's the problem or something else so I don't fo out and give out money for a new battery if it won't help..
And yes, my phone is still getting hot when the battery is draining fast.. I do have an insurance that I could use but if it's just the battery then I can buy a new one. I forgot to mention that the phone gets pretty hot when I charge it, somewhere above the battery connectors. Eather that or the micro-USB connector, or even both at the same time.. The cable has turned yellow just under the connector so I don't know if it could be the charget that messed it up. This started before I even flashed a custom ROM.
Well I couldn't take it anymore and decided to downgrade my phone back to 4.4.4 which it came with. 9h on battery, Spotify was playing for 3h, played a little on Snes emulator, facebook, chrome, and I still jave 56% battery left. Seems to me that I was one of them who got the f*cked update for 5.0.1 and 5.1.1.. my phone is back to normal with speed, battery usage and heat. I'll let the battery drain completely today and see if it will turn off at 25-5% like it used to. The worst thing is that a game I used to play dosn't work on 4.4.4.. but it's still worth it!
