Slowdowns or temporary freezes - XPERIA X1 General

Hi there,
i recently upgraded to the wm6.5 (21500) and i absolutely love it.
But i experienced some rather unpleasent slowdowns and temporary freezes when browsing the web/switching panels or writing messeges.
Sometimes the phone won't give any reaction for about 10-20 seconds and after that the CHome menu is lagging and the overall performance is really bad for some time.
I think this happens more often when turning the screen.
I tried several cache setting which did not solve the problem. other than that my chaches are optimizes for better performance.
Because i did not find anything useful about that i am asking you:
1. Am i the only one with that problem because i screwed something or is it "normal" on wm6.5?
2. Is there any way to fix it/any good "pure" wm6.5 rom?

Haven't had problems with WM 6.5 except for a few bugs with the CHome items that sometimes got screwed up, but no performance related issues. I actually thought it was faster/smoother than other 6.1 ROMs I tried
What ROM are you using?
I had 1.01.W4X.23-BB...and I say had cuz my phones out for repair

Thanks for your answer.
That is exactly the ROM i am using.
My Memory is always around 40-50% full, which seems quite ok.
I don't know what may have caused this... maybe my customized CHome.
I actually don't have any exotic software installed. Just some CHome customizations (switching off CHome won't change anything) and no performance-eating software.
I found out that the performance goes way down when entering a program (like calendar) and typing something into a text field in landscape mode (with the hardware keyboard). When switching back, it is all stuttering and even sumtimes theres the bottom bar in the middle of the screen like in vga mode.
If i just knew what the cause is. I don't want to hard-reset again xD

Is it possible to speed up the TC overall? to much lag..

Hey guys..
I just upgraded from a tilt to a touch to a touch cruise.
Apart from some basic cabs and reg tweaks, i haven't done much else to my htc devices.
Now that I have the cruise, I had hoped it would be a bit differnt from the other two in term of performance. Although I love the device, it STILL has the same "LAG" in performance that the tilt and touch had.
Tap an icon, such as Messaging and sometimes you have a 2 sec delay. While your thinking it going right away to messaging you start tapping before it gets there and you open something else. This happens quite often with several programs.
I've had a dozen PDA's and they never performed this way. I know it a "phone" with many features but is there any way to spped it up?
I'm sure there is a lot of fluff/ programs that I never use that take up memory.
Is ther anyway to get rids of them to speed things up, or is it just the way it is with these devices? The lag drives me nuts...
any tips???
thanks in advance
you are missing video drivers for the fully capable graphics chipset on your cruise, follow this thread, and hopefully if anything good comes of it, this will be the solution to your problems.....

ROM upgrading/cooking/tweaking

A simple but important question:
Do You changed your original ROM to a self-made?
Yes?
What ROM did You use? (Link would be fine)
why You flashed your ROM?
do you experience more performance?
known problems?
would You recommend it?
No?
do you think about doing it?
bad experience with doing it?
Yes, I changed.
1. Touch of HD 2.2 Full Edition.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=460640
2. Because I had to choose one and this seemed to be good choice. (And it was!
3. Yes, my hd seems to work faster.
4. So far I haven't noticed any problems. Sometimes the device won't show thumbnails of pictures in file explorer but it's not a big deal as you need just to change folder and all is fine.
5. Yes, it is worth testing. You should not be disappointed.
No:
1. I do think about changing rom but since I have customised and performance tweaked my HD already I wonder what a cooked rom will do. I know a cooked rom will likely perform better than official but what about a tweaked official with all your customisation and performance tweaks. What's the advantage?
2. Not tried yet.

Exactly my opinion! This post could be mine
What's the advantage? Want to know it too, thats why i opened this thread!
Not YET, but I will later. I would like to be completely familiar with the stock ROM first in order to be able to have a good feel on whether there is improvement.
Honestly, I'm so satisfied with the stock ROM already. Don't seem to experience the problems that some describe, such as it beign slow, etc. I have no freeze after about 10 day of use so far, I find it very very fast.
I do want to flash a cooked ROM because I hope to see improvements in a few areas:
a) inability to make SIM contact hiding registry change stick. I understand that at least one of the cooked ROM has fixed this.
b) occassional stutters in music playing. Not sure if this problem is fixed in cooked ROM.
c) When selecting album, the storage card entry will show up only after I have selected ALL, wait for a while, then go back to reselect. Even then, the Storage Card entry does not always show up. Not sure if any cooked ROM has fixed this yet.
d) I don't like having the battary icon on the TF3D taskbar. I like it to show the date/time instead. Not sure if cooked ROM has fixed this.
e) The standard ROM has switched off the screen orientation UI switch. One needs to switch it on before we're able to assign Rotate Screen to a hardware key. I understand that at least one of the cooked ROM has rectify this.
f) I never like HTC task manager, and had always used Wktask in the past. If the cooked ROM uses Wktask and disable HTC task manger on today screen, I would consider it a plus.
g) I don't like the default calculator skin either but I never use this simplistic calculator anyway. Having a proper skin is nice though. After trying out Panomaric Calc, I think I'm going to stick with it.
h) I wish pressing hardware button twice does not result in dialing the last dialed number as it does now. I know we can lock the device to prevent this from happening while the device is in our pocket. However, once the phone is unlocked, it is easy to dial the last number without me realising it. I wonder if any of the ROM addresses this issue.
i) TF3D color. I wish we have an easy way to frequently change color for every tab, not just the home tab. I also love to see the 3D glassy taskbar and bottom bar back. If anyone know of any ROM that has that, please share here. I know I can flash all of them and find out for myself, but would be nice to know from those who have already tried.
j) I wish the TF3D music program is able to assign songs to a playlist more efficiently. ATM, I have to show the music on the screen, then click menu/add to playlist. This is too laborious. Or perhaps there is an easier way that I'm unaware of?
That's all I can think of ATM. I'm sure it's a matter of time before some of the cooked ROMs make these improvements.
So, I definitely will flash, but don't know when and which ROM yet.
1. Dutty's v1.1 HD Rom
2. Because I'm a flash-a-holic, and Dutty's been making incredibly fast and stable roms for a long time. Based on new 1.19 official rom, which has bug fixes and Dutty has tweaked performance.
3. Hard to say. Except for the annoying freeze problem, I've been fairly happy all along. Mainly, I trust Dutty -- the hodge-podge of settings I was using didn't seem as stable.
4. Only one - once in a blue moon, closing a lot of programs individually & sequentially from the home screens top right task manager button will freeze the device. Another user said this was reproducable, and Dutty is tracking it down...
5. Oh, heck yeah!
In conclusion i must say, that im not convinced yet...
Someone who knows the device good enough should just Hard reset the device and customize and tweak it for his own, with the applications he or she likes and the tweaks he knows (!). This way he or she will get a device completly known by the user.
BackUp this state so you can go to it back everytime you want. TADAAAA you have YOUR personal perfect device ROM

the xperia write 3seconds after I typed

I have a problem on my xperia sincethe begining.
when I type a sms if I write sentence pretty fast I have to wait to allow the pphone to finish writin.
anyone has the same pb? any solution?
did you update your phone to the latest firmware?
Firmware R2A seems to be faster, but I think the lag in general happens alot in windows mobile phones.
I've experienced this issue on my first R1A ROM that I got when the phone shipped in Nov/08. I've just recently updated to R3AA010, and noticed that the issue is still there. I do find that it helps to give the phone 10-15 seconds to finish its processing after rotating the screen (sliding out the hardware KB), since it seems to lag when you start to type RIGHT after rotating.
I am running Wisbar Advance 3 + Desktop 2, so that may have something to do with it, but I have heard that a LOT of ppl are experiencing this. Once I rotate and wait a good 10 seconds before typing, the character-popup speed is improved, but still not instant like it should be.
Could be a generic WinMo fault too...

Hm... I had the same issues with R1A AND R2A, but I haven't noticed it in R3A. Weird.
I get this issue with TouchIT 7+, and a friend of mine also gets it with Smaberg TouchX. It happened to both of us a couple of weeks after flashing. Strangely it's not happening on my one at the moment, so seems like an intermittant slow down.
thats weird, i got my device with the R2A rom and never experienced such issue, only problem i have with my x1 is that the panels does not rotate without the stutter, but hey, thats common on all xperias
"Disable Word Suggestions from Settings/Personal/Input/Word Completion. If you have a full QWERTY keyboard on your phone, and you're fairly fast at typing, the word suggestions are of no use to you anyway. And I have noticed quite a lag when this setting is on, especially when writing text messages. One would think that a cell-phone with 256MB of RAM, 128MB graphics memory and a 528MHz processor could handle quick typing without delay, but apparently that was a hard nut to crack for Microsoft."

That's well worth trying if people haven't already done this. The problem I've experienced is not related to this however, as I've never had it enabled.
Here's the fix:
Along with turning off word suggesrtion. You must also click on "clear stored Entries"...this will get rid of you lag. What happens is the X1 stores everything we type so you must go in periodically (manually) and clear all those stored words out. This along with turning off word suggestion will fix lag time.
guys, I didn't do it on purpose, I xanted to switched from windiws to xperia appearance and it's over, no more pb with typing......and YES i kept word suggestions.
finally I found.
thx to all of you, and let me know if this tip helps!

i'm running on the xperia skin and i always get this issue with the ori rom and the custom roms. mine would normally pause half way through an sms or once or twice stuck at the "To" input when doing sms. i will try to off the auto complete and see if that solve the problem - thanks for the heads-up
Again folks, I said it in my earlier post if you want to fix the text lag, you must "clear stored entry" in seetings underneth the word complettion option. This will end the lag, however periodically you will have to go back in and do it again.

Is it just me? - TD2 Slow to respond...

I have had my TD2 since its UK release and have been pretty impressed with the phone but the one thing i cannot seem to get away from is the constant pauses and little hangs it seems to experience. These occur in when typing text messages, looking through emails changing to different tabs on the Touch Flow to name a few. I just have to give up on what i was doing and come back to it a bit later, or reset it. Not really what you need when just wanting to send a quick message to someone.
I have tried a few different roms, Shadowline/Duttys (numerous versions) and the stock rom (although not the most recent) and all seem to suffer from the same unresponsive patches.
I have just been given a N97 Mini for a work phone and this seems a breeze by comparison. Very very quick and responsive.
Does anyone else have these issues or could it be a problem with my phone or choice of roms? I get the feeling it could just be a feature of WinMo...
The ROM in my signature doesn't look to be affected by the bugs you are outlining, or at least they are minimized..Maybe Sense2.5 is a bit laggy at first use, but it goes smoothly once fully loaded into RAM (just run through it once).Since you are prone to experience different ROMs, I suggest you take a ride on this one, WWE and other languages available. Besides a good ROM, some performance tweaks may help..try for instance TD2Tools and set File System Cache, File System Filter Cache and GDI/Font Cache to "Advised" values.
Dutty's HG 1 (in my sig) seemed 100% responsive and quick to me (he had taken out the taskmanager)
hope that helps./
just getting the UDK rom... will install that in a bit and let you know how i go.
Thanks for the help.

Any one fixed the SMS sandby crash yet?

I love this phone but this crashing its doing my head in. Ive heard so many people have this issue but no ones knows how to fix it. What happens is...
You recieve a txt you press the on button you swipe the unlock and it just sits there doing nothing. You have to pull the battery out and its a tad annoying when you have to take the case off to get to the battery cover.
I think its the HTC sense causing this as ive taken it off and im using spb mobile shell 3.5 and its working ok
Any help would be very grateful.
Cheers

Can't say fixed completely, but it's much better after performance tweak
I can't say that my TMOUSA HD2 never crashes anymore, but I get much better performance with very few crashes after implementing the following registry tweak which comes from the 3rd sticky link on the HD2 General page. Also, even with the tweak, SMS performance is not fluid:
*Leo Hints, Tips and Registry....
37. Boost Performance:
Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS
Change - CacheSize to 4096. Works for some and not for others though.
I have not flashed my ROM and do not plan to do so for some time because I don't want to get off of the stock ROM until I see a few more bugs worked out.
Please let me know if this registry change improves the crashing behavior because I might increase the CacheSize another 1 MB to see if the performance improves.
HTH
PS: I meant to also mention that my phone was doing the exact same thing as yours. I went back to TMO and they said it should probably be replaced but they didn't have any in stock and they didn't know when they were getting anymore in. After reviewing many of the posts from new purchasers (including yours), I think the new phone will have the same problem and the only way to fix it will be for the MFG to post a hotfix. So rather than losing the few apps and customizations I have already made, I'll just struggle along until a hotfix comes out.
