Weird Display Issue - Touch HD General

I'm hoping someone can help me.
It's a bit strange - suddenly, for no apparent reason, my screen has lost some information.
It's the info at the top right - the Bluetooth symbol is visible as is the symbol showing what type of network you're connected to; 'H' or 'G'. I also get the first (small) bar showing signal strength and then, where the other bars should be (I've got maximum signal where I am) there's nothing and where the symbol showing if the phone is set to vibrate, or ring, etc there is also nothing, just black.
The three horizontal bars for the task manager at the far right, are there.
I know it's not a physical screen issue, because when I click on the task manager the 'missing' info flickers very momentarily.
I've tried a soft reset and also taken the battery out - no success.
Has anyone else experienced this? Can anyone help?
Edit - just remembered that having installed my player, the analogue clock was appearing in the top right of the screen (not something I chose) - not sure if this has had an affect?

do you have hd tweak installed?? Have a look in section 5.2. See if you have just time there or not, i know when i messed with this, icons disappeared!
Jake

Well, I've got it back - not exactly sure how if I'm honest - messed with the 'Display Clock in all Programs' within 'Settings' and as you mentioned in HD Tweak.
At first it didn't seem to do the trick, then it was OK - then it disappeared again!
I guess it's something I'm doing but as it's back I'm now going to leave well alone.
Thanks for your reply.

Headset indicator on titlebar

Hi
I've searched these forums but to no avail...
When I'm in the dialler I get a little graphic to show that I'm connected to a handsfree, what I'd really like and what I'm sure I've seen a picture of on a website before is the same icon on the today screen
Be very nice to know if the headset is connected before the call comes in!
thanks
I am looking for same thing, when I was using my O2 mini, I can see the indicator, but no more on Universal. Unfortunately, seems the Uni is easy lose the connection with BT headset.
same here...
On my Blue Angel, it worked perfectly, now, when I'm in my car, I can't see if my carkit is active. Of course, I can press the Phone-button, and see if the (barely visible) black icon is in the top right corner, but the whole idea is to have "one-touch use" of the phone...
Any solutions?
In the Universal, this little headset icon only shows up on the initial pairing. After the headset and Universal pairs-up, it disappears after 5 seconds. But rest assured, your headset and Universal are paired.
I'd like to see that icon on my today screen taskbar as well

Me too, it's annoying. I'd like BT status permanently displayed on the taskbar when active. Anyone seen a way of doing it?
Doesn't the headset icon only appear on the titlebar when an A2DP connection is made? So, therefore, nothing to do with the 'hands free' status...
I'm using voice commander and the only time I see an icon is on the phone screen no place else. I too would like to see some type of icon or confirmation when my head-set is connected. On all my other phones if I go out of range(and not talking on it) the head set gives a warning chime but not with this one. So somebody please create some type of notification or icon please.

Display Problem: it's flickering...HELP!!!

Hi all,
I think my display has a problem of flickering: I noticed it going to "system status" window by clicking on battery, or signal icon. Here you have a gray stripped background that on my display seems to be unstable...something like flashing. I have the same impression if I look at the headers stripes of the tabs, where you find, "People", "Messages" etc...
The strange thing is that what ever I see, pictures, different windows, they all seems to be very stable, no flashing...flickering...problem.
Now I ask to myself, could it be an optical effect due to the pattern of that specific background?
I make the same answer to you all...and did somone notice the same problem?
Please answer me becouse I should have to replace it if I really have this trouble...
THX so much!

Did you try a Clear Storage followed by a Hard Reset?
@tnyynt
Thank you for your replay.
Other people suggested it to me. I've tried it right now and it had no effect, I'm still having the same problem.
BTW: Clear Storage performs by itself a HardReset after typing 1234...am I right?
I too am noticing this flickering on the top bar. I couldn't work it out. No idea what it is, but quite glad I'm not the only one with it. No idea if it is an illusion or a fault though. Can anyone else confirm?

Yes, you are right, but it's a different one than the normal Hard Reset.
Try to change brightness of the backlight, for example turn it off and check then.

thats normal. it has something to do with the refreshrate. that occours on every phone and pc monitor and so on. it always depends on what you are viewing at the momeent and often occurs when there are many very thin lines like at the top of the HD.
I have noticed no flickering at all.
@tnyynt
Do you mean I should perform a normal Hard Reset? How can I do it...I still haven't discover how to do it...
@Raziel1
It would be normal if everyone could see it on their HD, but it seems that only some terminals have this problem...Do you mean so that my HD has no problem?

A LCD display shouldnt flicker. It's either a hardware or software problem. Old CRT-monitors and TVs flickered because they "painted" the picture from top to bottom, and if they didnt do it fast enough it was perceived as flickering. LCD displays uses a dot matrix and shouldnt flicker regardless refreshrate.

Do you mean that I'm calling my display problem improperly or that it really can be a problem of this kind of display and so it means it is broken?
I have been noticing this exact same flickering, and couldn't decide if it was normal or not!?
but this flickering only occures when there are certain things on the screen like the thin lines of top of the home screen. its not the screen itself which is flickering. maybe it has something to do with vision and not with a technical aspect. the same thing can be seen on every screen i ever looked at. you can try it out, by taking a picture of a pc monitor at close range with high resolution. when you look at it and scroll around with zoom, it will often flicker like hell because of all the details and maybe downscaling or whatever

I havent seen the problem myself so it's hard to tell. You can often see by looking at it if its a software or hardware problem. If it's a software problem its just a certain part, for example a window titlebar, that flickers. This is usually caused by bad programming, the programmer has told the program to repaint with a certain interval even if there is no change. If it's a hardware problem the flickering usually isnt constrained to parts of the window, for example it doesnt follow the titlebar. Instead its usually diffuse parts of the screen that flickers.
@Marinese
Uhm...I'm figuring out how to test it...If I look at a picture, I can't notice the problem, and it seems to be localized on upper bars and on some particular windows I told before. If I could flash it with another ROM...but it's not HardSPL yet and I would keep it in warrenty untill my provider/seller TIM tell me what to do with it. So it could be a ROM problem too?
It would be usefull to have two of them placed side by side
and see the differences...
For me it seems to happen when the brightness is set to high, or I am in a well lit room with auto brightness enabled. With the brightness reduced I see no flickering...
Does that give any clue as to whether it is hardware or software? It seems to be dark colours that flicker.
@evilskanker
Uhm perhaps if you reduce brightness, you reduce the visibility of the problem as well...
I don't know about the dark colours...but I took a black picture and it doesn't flicker...
I have that exact same issue..
Altought I only notice it, on the upper horizontal lines on the RIGHT in TouchFlo3D.
What is the reason for that? And how to solve it?
Thanks.
I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing, but what I have is quick fluctuation in the brightness level without changes in the ambient lighting. You could call it flickering, although I would say it's not as fast as a flicker in my case. It seems to me it has something to do with the light sensor and its sensitivity. I would like to think that a ROM update will sort it, but we will have to wait and see. I'm not doing anything about yet.
@atomikpt
It's the same of mine and also try to go to "system status" window by clicking on battery, or signal icon and take look of what it happens.
@arisg
Nothing to do with your case. Consider that I desabled the light sensor and I'm using brightness to its maximum level.

weird screen behaviour

Just noticed today when I'm using my dhd to browse the forum, when I,m reading a topic, everytime I press anywhere on the screen (for the pop up menu to come out), the white background changes to a pinkish cast. Is this normal?
Hey, i noticed this too, also when you hold finger down to scroll or whatever the background also changes.
I think this is how it's meant to be since every page does this. Like an indication that you pressing down. Would like to know for sure though.
EDIT: Forgot to mention I only see this in the browser, so that's why I thought it's there for a reason.
I get the same issue, although for me its more of a yellow tint...
At first I was worried it was a hardware issue, but I'm pretty confident now that it is software related because it its specific to only a handful of apps.
I don't think it is purposeful though...

Weird burn-in issue on cm13

Hello, been visiting the boards for a long time, but I didn't register because I had nothing to contribute really. <.<
I currently have a i9505 running on cm13 6.0.1.
Last night when I wanted to reply to a text I used the right side lock screen shortcut that's set to messaging the circular motion thingy messed up the edge of my screen. (I didn't realize until later that it's not actually a hardware issue if you ask me.)
Some pictures, screenshots don't register anything:
CAN'T POST IMAGES because I'm a new user. :/
It's on imgur, with /a/Murqy extension after .com. Album of three images.
Messaging shortcut thingy on the second screen is a lock-screen burn in, as is lock screen in the middle of the first screen.
Sorry for the garbage quality screens, I don't have any other spare phone except for the ancient Sony Ericsson with me atm.
At first this obviously looks like some display issue or a burn-in. I've checked the display, it has absolutely no scratches.
I've also read about the quality issues of some S4 phones and glass+display being glued together which can lead to yellowish tint. And how display breaks easily because of bad build quality and too much pressure being put on the display itself.
Anyhow, ever since that brown/yellow thing appeared the right/left lock screen shortcut animations stopped showing. And that thing is the exact size of the lock screen shortcut animation.
Also, those three burned in lock screen buttons, phone/unlock/messaging aren't really burn ins. When I try to press any of them in the bugged state when the screen is already unlocked, the dropdown menu activates. Also when I use dropdown menu myself, those 3 buttons are instantly gone without leaving a trace. And when the dropdown menu is activated, the yellowish corner translates from the background to the menu itself. Icons on the home screen in the background aren't yellow anymore, but icons in the dropdown menu are.
So, I'm completely at loss what to do here. I don't wanna use one of those burn in removal apps to mess my phone up, I don't have a warranty because I got it used like less than a month ago and everything was working fine. And I don't wanna take it to a repair shop because they'll just tell me the display is messed up.
There's just too much coincidence here for me to believe it's a classic case of display burn in.
Why wouldn't lock screen shortcut animations show up anymore if that was the case? Even on the left side which is completely fine. And it just appeared out of nowhere when I used one of those shortcuts. As if animation is stuck in there.
Sorry for the wall of text, but wanted to explain it in detail as I couldn't find anything similar anywhere else. <.<

I'm not familiar with burn-ins, but since it's a used phone the probability of the screen being messed up is high.
If it really is a software glitch, the only option would be to flash a different rom. If it continues, flash a stock rom via Odin. If the problem still persists, then it's most probably a hardware issue.
Remember, the flashes have to be clean flashes. As clean as possible. Dirty flashes won't help, especially when trying to find the root of a problem.
I've had it for nearly a month now and I didn't have a single issue.
As I've said, it's probably not a burn in because it just appeared like that due to one animation.
And since it's also there when I boot into recovery I don't think flashing a new ROM would help.

Is this gradient (around the icon) visible to naked eye? This is really nasty Just a guesswork: this could be one of failure modes for amoled. I have 8 weird rectangles burned in over the whole screen and really don't know where they came from.
Check this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2603039 evidently even light from outside can burn in your screen.

Yea, it's visible.
That's the far right shortcut on the dock.
But the weird thing is that it just disappears if I try to click it.
Same goes for the lock screen shortcuts as I've said already, that's why I'm not sure it's a regular case of screen burn.
And when I pull down the dropdown menu, the color of the desktop goes back to normal, but dropdown menu icons in the bottom right turn yellowish, as if the tint translated to the screen that's being used at that moment.
After I realized that I tried to mess around with color saturation and brightness.
Changing brightness had no effect, lowering it would just make that corner darker, but as I dropped down color saturation on all of the RGB components more and more it became less and less noticable.
But the buggy lock screen shortcuts still puzzle me. They remain on the desktop after I unlock the phone, but are instantly gone as soon as I click them.
If it wasn't for that, I'd be pretty sure the screen broke because of bad build quality. I read about the display having too much pressure put on it, somewhat of a design flaw.
Gonna try that burn in app, what's the worst thing that could happen to a broken display. <.<

Does it disappear if you press and hold without actually doing something? Make a screenshot and display the image fullscreen as if it was lockscreen, will it happen again? While showing the screenshot, press and hold on the icon, any change?
Does all of the gradient disappear or just the icon burn in?

If I hold it, it actually works (eg taking me to messages or phone menu as if the screen was locked). It doesn't appear on screenshot, only after I unlock the phone. That's what's puzzling me, it's not actually burned in, it looks like an issue with the display when I change screens (from locked to unlocked or switching from desktop to broswer like in that screenshot with the burned in icon, as soon as I click it it also disappears, same as shortcuts).
And gradient gradually disappears as I lower the color saturation. Disappears fully at around 30% for all RGB components. But brightness is way too low then.

I know, I just wanted you to make your phone display the same content as if it was locked - but now the image would be screenshot and not the actual lockscreen... I know this sounds really wild, but I don't see any better troubleshooting ideas here

I get your point, like I'm leaning towards display issue but not a classic one but a weird one because it has issues with switching screens.
Idk, I'm gonna roll with this for a couple more days, if it gets worse it's definitely the display.

Maybe tomorrow if I find a half-decent camera.
Actually, I made a screencast.
https://media.giphy.com/media/3oGRFj88fgqgT3vWrS/giphy.gif
As you can see, after I unlock the screen, all three shortcuts are burned in.
When I press the burned in unlock icon it just briefly opens the dropdown menu (it wasn't me opening it at that point, when I clicked the lock screen icon in the middle)
Yellow tint in the bottom can't be seen on the video.
