How to enable auto connect to internet for applications? - Networking

Hello,
when I open the Opera browser it starts to connect to the Internet via UMTS/Edge/GPRS bla bla bla....
i´m using icq mobile. The problem is, when i open icq mobile it doesn´t start a connection to the internet which means i always have to start opera first (for the internet connection) and then after my phone is connected to the internet i can start icq.
a friend of mine has the touch hd and his icq mobile connects automatically to the internet.
does anybody know how i can enable the auto connect to the internet when I open icq mobile?
(sry for my bad english,.. i´m a german =) )

Hello!
I've set up a GPRS connection on a mobile device running Windows Mobile 5.0. It connects on demand (e.g. when entering an URL in Internet Explorer).
However, connecting to a remote database (via SqlConnection) fails if the device isn't already connected, ie. it doesn't connect automatically. Is there a way to configure the device to connect automatically when attempting any TCP connection, or should I do it programatically in some way (Connection Manager API)?
thanks,

I've the same problem. I need a GPRS autoconnect solution to make my app works fine.
Is there a regkey or trick to do that: autoconnect to GPRS everytime?
thx

*GRR* Evertime ActiveSync connects, connectionsettings are changed!

Hi @ll..
i have one huge Problem.
In the connectionsettings to GPRS i use at both (internet and company) the same APN-Settings. On my Computer in the Internet Explorer is a Proxy-Server set.
Now everytime i connect my Mobile Device (WM6) with ActiveSync, then in my XDA Connection Settings is the Proxy-Server entered automatically!
That nerves!
Because now the internet connection on my PPC couldn´t established, till i change it back on the settings?
Are there a Possibility (e.g. regestry change) that the connectionsettings for GPRS/UMTS are permanent??
thanxx

internet via pda

Hey everyone,
I was wondering if it is possible that a normal cell phone, like a samsung d900i, can connect to the internet through my ppc, wich has a connection with WiFi..
TIA
Rindert
Via wifi, no. Your phone only support MicroSD and I don't think WiFi SDIO goes that small.
Via Bluetooth maybe. Depends what OS your phone is running. Sometimes you can use bluetooth activesync in Windows Mobile to share the internet. Obviously your computer would need to have bluetooth as well.
What OS do you have on your phone?
You would need the ability to stop the phones web browser from accessing the internet itself firstly, because I would presume the instant you try to open a webpage the phone will use the cellular connection for internet access.
If you could stop this from happening, you may have some success after you pair to the PPC via bluetooth.
Then you would need to point the web browser at the PPC in either the browser settings or the network connectivity settings.

My OS is WM6.1 dutch

Thx, I will try
In which case read this guide (part of which I wrote myself).
Using it correctly, internet over bluetooth is very very easy.

i780 GPRS connection issues with some applications

I am using Samsung i780 and have issue with some applications.
Most of applications work over GPRS and over WIFI without any issues: Internet Explorer, Opera, ActiveSync and Google Maps. These applications can both: initiate and use existing GPRS connection - I guess they use Connection Manager API.
But some applications do not work over GPRS
Metatrader 4 Mobile, PocketPutty - they can connect over existing WIFI connection, but not over existing GPRS connection, they also do not try to initiate GPRS connection.
PocketPutty is not "connection manager aware" (I know that from forum). About metatrader I could not find any information.
I tried many different settings in connection manager, but they could not solve this issue.
I have also tried to reflash my i780 with "WM6.1 WWE ROM - V3.3XG RELOADED" but this didn't help with my issue.
NOTE: On my i600 metatrader 4 mobile worked over gprs without any issues.
Maybe there is a magic registry setting or something? Maybe there is something I am doing wrong?
I am using Orange PL 3G/HSDPA connection.
Could somebody help me, please?
Accidentaly I have found a workaround which I do not understand.
When I change in connection manager
From:
Internet: My ISP
Work: My Work Network
To:
Internet: My Internet
Work: My Work Network
something strange happens:
GPRS connection is automatically established after powering on the phone (as with prev settings)
But IE is unable to resolve domain names, metatrader is unable to connect (on prev settings IE works)
When I disconnect my connection, and connect again opening page in IE. IE opens this page and metatrader suddenly connects! (meta trader never connects on prev settings)
I have no idea what's happening.
I found workaround which I completely do not understand .
Internet: My ISP
Work: My Work Network
I have added modem connection to My ISP.
This changed, that after power-up internet explorer works.
Next step is: go to connection manager and disconnect data connection (using HTC connection manager - not data call manager).
Then: connect to the internet using internet explorer or active sync
Now run metatrader - it works.
My questions:
Why is does it work while other configuration do not work?
Why do I have to disconnect data connection? - it is connecting first time using exactly the same connection settings!
How can I make this work in a civilized way?
UPDATE: PocketPutty also works after this workaround
