Blackberry Connect - XPERIA X1 General

So I was reading this story on the X1 getting blackberry connect (http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/...-firmware-with-blackberry-connect-in-the-wor/). now would this allow us to have BBM in the future?

BBConnect
Dunno - if it's not in R3 (I wish I could test it - stupid phone got the infamous cracks all over and had to be sent back a month ago. it's still at Sony) anyway, if it's not in R3, then maybe R4 (if the source is legit, and ther's going to be a R4).
Maybe R4 will be 6.5 based?
Otherwise try what some of the other guys on the forum did for BBConnect to get it to work.. Good luck.

yeah, It will be probably in R4A, because R3A has been officially released in Europe (and probably also in USA & other regions).
But I think SE will release BlackBerry Connect as a panel application.
And let'ts hope Xperia X1 will get an 6.5 upgrade, even it's possible with custom roms now ^^

Anyone have any idea when we will see a new O2 Exec ROM?

Anyone working for O2 here know when O2 are going to release a new ROM for the Exec?
Regards
I've asked, and no-one knows (all they know is that it'll be later than any internal release date; which they didn't have).
link to o2 XDA Exec Software Update
You are required to enter your phone number and imei number.
http://www.my-xda.com/xdaexec_soft.html
Anyone know if this version (v1.13.188) is the latest release similar to that for the JasJar etc?
...to answer my own question. I guess not. JasJar seems to be ROM VERSION 1.30.76 WWE
You dont have to enter your mobile or IMEI number if you go here for future exec updates
http://www.my-xda.com/xdaexec_soft3.html
when hell freezes over?
bit cynical ..... but like most people I have been trying to get an answer and all i can get is... we are working on it... we will release an update.. but no dates as yet...
If you were o2.. and were getting a shed load of money from Blackberry contracts every month would you rush out and release an update that enables a competimg product that might cut into some of that phat profit
1.13.188 is an update over the launch version that came with the Exec when it was released, however it is significantly behind the imate, Orange and T-Mobile ones. As usual, o2 are last with an update.
To be honest, my iMate one works so well, I'm not even sure if I'm willing to flash it back to an o2 ROM. It'll have to be a pretty amazing release.
Cheers
Ant
What are the differences between the o2 and I-Mate one?
This update has been in testing for over a month now so hopefully should be release soon. It wont include A2DP though.
Also you dont need the IMEI number anyway, just simply change the 2 to a 3 in the address bar (http://www.my-xda.com/xdaexec_soft2.html - change to soft3 on the end).
oops!
stuartwatkins
do you know it definitely not have a2dp ? a contact I have at o2 tells me it will. he has been wrong before but was sure the new rom would contain a2dp.
@CRJL, i did not think A2DP has been included in any of the ROM updates. In fact, I am not sure if any of the HTC WM5 devices has A2DP at the moment (someone please correct this if I am wrong).
@jah. I know that's why I was excited about this o2 rom. it may well be he is full of poo. we will see. like I said he has been wrong before
I am absolutly sure! O2 have said that this will be included in future ROM updates, but not the new one - shame!
I was hoping that the fact that O2's update was taking so long was maybe a sign that it would include A2DP where others had not.
MS give links to the devices with A2DP already available:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/business/5/default.mspx
I know the spv600s now ship with it
rgds
The mail I got from O2 stated that it would include A2DP so it will be interesting to see if they make good on the promise.
I reckon it will be in the next few weeks though.
I did offer to beta test (nudge nudge wink wink) but they knocked me back.
Cheers
since my post I have been intouch with my "friend" at o2. he is 95% sure that the reason for the delay in the rom release is due to a2dp being made ready for this ROM :0 :0
He also says it will be out in no more than 14days.

Can you ask your mate if Blackberry Connect is going to be available too?
im going to be right pissy if ad2p isnt included when there are other mickey mouse phones being shipped with wm5 and ad2p.
Any more news? Or is everyone still waiting...

is WM 6.5 gonna work for our xperia??

i am wondering if it will be easy to upgrade it officially from sonyericsson..
coz ROMs sometimes are dangerous and the phone may jam ?
so anybody know about this?
it is bretty cooler the WM6.5
i hope it will work
There's already a ROM by Itje. It's probable that there will be a 6.5 update from SE. But nobody can tell you for sure, let alone when.
if not officially, there will be some kind of port or fit for X1... though of course officialy is better, most likely it wont be that way, even less knowing X1 is the only WinMo device of SE and they probably wont be spending that much time and money (i guess they need licenses?) on that, is not the case for newer phone to be released, like Touch Pro 2 and Diamond2,. Those are covered by Microsoft itself.

POLL: Do you think the XPERIA will get updated to WINDOWS MOBILE 6.5?

I sure hope they do!
I really wanna use the marketplace!
I don't think so but I would really like it!
anyways, as long as Diamond 2 & Touch PRO 2 get updated (and they will), we will have a nice custom rom for us
2 words for the people that 'think SE will'.....
.....DREAM ON !
I think they will. Plus there are the custom roms if all else fails.
I think they will, because they allready have provided us with 1 update and there is another one in the making.
So they are trying to make an effort.
And either way, we will have a rom with 6.5. Heck, we allready have
They don't. Its like win on PC - if U buy win98 U can't upgarde to winME for free. Licences problem. But dont worry - we find WM 6.5 for xperia on this forum
They will
Microsoft offers the update for free and it´s up to SE if they want to give it away!
In a chat with Microsofts nordic Business Area Manager Peter Wissinger he gave us this answer:
Jan Johannesson: Hej, Kan jag uppgradera min Xperia X! till Mobile 6,5. mvh Jan Johannesson
Peter Wissinger: Nej - Sony Ericsson har inte aviserat att X1 skall få en uppgradering. Tycker dock att den är grymt bra som den är.

What about WinMo7 on Xperia?
I saw this post on Engadget.Com
I think lots of XDA-dev.com visitors know this site.
On Engadget they've spotted a video about Microsoft with (probably) Windows Mobile 7.
On that video, I saw a man (walking down the street) with Xperia X1 on it
Although this is just a video ... but it would be cool to have WinMo7 on Xperia
Just look for yourself

Reckon ur missing an option for voting: an option for "I hope SE produces an upgrade!"
Seriously though, i see two camps here. There are XDA members who say "nope, no upgrade" (cause of X2, too costly etc), and those that say "deffo upgrade" (cause of R3A, OS from MS is free, etc).
Who knows, but i sure hope they do. Otherwise our awesome chefs will have one ported from who knows where in little more than a few hours.
Makes you think doesn't it.. it can't be that hard to make a rom now can it?? (excluding testing of course - but there's an idea.. maybe Sony Ericsson can release an alpha version to XDA - with all the users on the forum we can have it bullet proof tested within days!)
Not a chance.
1. It's pointless to update an outdated product with new system if SE can't make profit out of this action.
2. Since HTC is the ODMer, SE have to pay HTC again for making the new ROM
3. WM6.5 and WM7 require some special hardware design which X1 doesn't have. And M$ even require new WM logo on specfic place of all new WM6.5 hardware
4. SE have to pay twice the lisencing fee to M$.
5. Not good to SE's new phones (not only WM X2, but also other high-end ones)
I think they will, because Sony Ericsson want the Xperia to be their high class series. And they won't be able to compete against other brands, if they don't give their users updates and good service.
I dont think we will get 6.5.
Cos in this economy sitsuation SE probly will effort more to selling new phones, and especially to new Idou.
Since Xperia aint 100% SE phone like upcoming Idou will.

SE have made plenty profit with the high price that we paid. Also, MS have dropped the requirement for the WM Logo (check engadgetmobile / pocketnow / wmpoweruser).
You might be right on the ODM aspect. HTC have been..painful (ref: Kaiser issues).
On your last point hopefully SE's new phones have more than just a ROM update to get people to buy them. Besides - a company that has goodwill for supporting their phones will have 10 points in my book over a company that doesn't. No names mentioned.
As HTC have no plans for either the Pro or Diamond (v1) to have 6.5 (same age as the X1) and based on past performance from SE I really don't expect 6.5 from Sony Ericsson directly.

i am sorry but since when the X1i is the same age as the Pro and the Diamond???
The latter two are a lot older phones and their specs are much lower too compared to the X1i. If i remember correctly MS specifically mentioned the required specs to run 6.5 and neither the Pro or the Diamond fit within those specs but the X1 does
No, it won't, not officially anyway.
It'll get it inofficially, with custom ROMs.

Then you weren't around when I was having to make the choice between getting the X1 or the Pro. At most a month between them, and that's because the X1 was late.
the x1 is the same age as the htc hd and thats not getting a upgrade.
its not going to happen.
1 - sony will argue that it was made for 6.1 and there is no reason to upgrade.
2 - sony want to sell there new phone
3 - the cost would be too high to make a new 6.5 rom for a 6.1 device (the r3 is just improving on what is already there, thay have already overcome most of the problems in the x1 rom and not going to start again with a 6.5 rom)
I think artesea is right! Going by SE's past they wont release anything!
I remember seeing you on my-symbian around with that whole p990 fiasco. I had a m600.
But I dont worry about that official crap anyway This poll should've been on the official SE page but not on xda-developers...where the url is already the answer to the question!
Long live xda-developers

WinMo 6.5 on Xperia is very possible! According to April 10th article

"...Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division, stated last week at the CTIA Wireless 2009 trade show, “We expect all the major operators to continue to support Windows phones going forward. In fact, by this fall, when Windows Mobile 6.5 releases, we'll have over 10 phones available in the U.S. alone, and you'll see that number continue to grow.”
Said line of Windows Mobile 6.5-supporting devices will include the HTC Touch Pro 2 and Touch Diamond 2, two handsets that have been announced since the MWC show in February, and there will also be the Elektrobit Satellite phone, which should come with the OS. In addition, a wide range of existing Windows Mobile 6.1 devices are also slated for upgrade to the upcoming platform, and among them we can count the HTC Touch Pro, the AT&T Fuze, and the HTC Touch Diamond.
For what it's worth, there will indeed be three new mobile phones released with the Windows Mobile 6.5 platform on them, yet it is uncertain whether more such phones will come out later this year, or the “ten phones” Robbie Bach mentioned also include the upgradeable ones. There are some companies that announced their support for Windows Mobile this year, such as HP or LG, but no details on upcoming devices from them made it into the wild yet..."

My Opinion:
As we know Sony Ericsson was very dedicated to make X1 as a very high-end phone to compete with iPhone, Blackberry, and G1. And were trying to get the latest and best windows mobile software for Xperia as WinMo 6.5 was already in plans during development of X1 (rumors all around about this on web). But 6.5 was yet not ready by X1's release so they went with customized 6.1 instead. Now Windows Mobile will be coming out at end of 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2009 and matter of 6.5 on Xperia just depends on how much Sony Ericsson is dedicated to X1 and its "maintenance" phase (known as most expensive for companies) especially when last month Sony Ericsson were running into financial issues and almost considering a split between Sony and Ericsson. But the good news are 1st X1 is still SE's most recent high-end device, 2nd the new R3A software is still to come and since beginning of this month SE enters back the Korean market with new set of devices and one of them is specially customized Xperia X1 for Korea, so X1 will still be a freshly device there when Windows Mobile 6.5 comes out. So we'll see, who knows what to expect from Sony Ericsson at this point.
Well for most of XDA forum readers, it doesn't realy matter. I am using WM 6.5 Beta right now, wnd when the final version comes to ANY device on the planet you can be sure aswell, that it will be ported
Hell you can have WM 6.5 on 3 years old Tytn 2...
wow awesome - rly hope they do now ! since it was planned for win 6.5 in the first place!

Yeah, I would also love an official 6.5 rom instead of a custom Rom.
I don't say the custom roms are bad, far from it :-D
But i prefer official stuff frpm the company too..
So R4A would be 6.5 update?
Anyway, nice to hear this news
I am currently on Itje's 6.5 ROM and it works great but i would also prefer an official release and support from Sony Ericsson for Windows Mobile 6.5.
its gona cost sony a fortune to upgrade to 6.5 on xperia,**** loads of licensing deals and tons of money wasting
whats going hapen is that we are going to get a very good custom 6.5,and sony will launch x2 with 6.5 or something, no way in hell they are going to give us free 6.5 upgrade, but thats what i think, lets hope for some good news
It depends...

I would have agreed with you as your theory is very valid, but don't you remember that during the X1's development Sony Ericsson there was a multiple information leak about Xperia having WM 6.5 but wasn't developed fast enough for X1's release, so my suspicion is that SE could have already purchased Windows Mobile 6.5 software for X1's back then, but no one knows as there is not enough information. I mean, after all were are definitely gonna get a ported WM 6.5 no matter what, but hey! I wouldn't mind an official build 6.5 straight from Sony Ericsson
It would be nice to have wm6.5 but i would prefer wm7. My X1 would be in trash in after 1 or 2 years anyway.

WinMo 6.5 on Xperia is NOT "very possible": is a REALITY
Go to the ROM development subforum and check for your self
Keep checking every day and be preapred for even more big surprises soon

I just want to clear whether information you referred to was about upcoming "cooked WM 6.5 that is ported to X1 from HTC's" or you really meant the official release from Sony Ericsson?
The 2005 PDA only device ran Windows Mobile 5 but it has been upgraded to 6.1. So that shows alotta things is possible.

Please call Sony's hotline and ask for WM 6.5

Dear Xperia-Users,
last week I called the german Sony hotline and asked the representative about the chances for WM 6.5 on X1. He said they are discussing it and it might happen.
To make SURE it happens I'd like to ask all of you to call your respective Hotline and inquire about WM 6.5 and tell them that you'd be delighted if they provided it for free.
Thank you,
J. Dähn, Hannover, Germany
Hi. I've sent an email to SE Spain asking for 6.5 update and telling that this will be a very good thing for Xperia owners. I tell also that if this is not made finally, that situation will making me consider other phone companies for my future device. I'll post their reply. Best regards.
I'm sure they know we all want a 6.5 update because we know they have their eye on this forum but i'll ring them when i get home and ask
I highly doubt they care, to be honest. They never had any customer support ever since the P800 came out.

I think they care. They always think a step ahead. How about the following customer thought: "Oh nice - they care about their existing customers, I will buy again!"
Plust it will cost them almost nothing to do it - X2 which they actively work on has similar hardware - won't be a big of a deal to reuse the stuff for older X1, with some missing goodies of course (or why would you go and buy X2 )

they want all x1 user update to X2~
SE used to be a market leader, the forebearer of innovation. Now we have to beg for a update to 6.5 on X1?! Is this the P990 all over again? C'mon, I'd rather have them develope a new rom (maybe with 6.5) with a proper UI and not the useless panels! They need to give us some reason to want to support their future devices and last time I checked I'm not in the habit of begging!
I received yesterday their reply and they told me the same that they told to @joerg.daehn. They said they are discussing the update.
Best regards
From the horses mouth:

Well, HTC is the next device then.
I sure wont get the X2 if they dont update x1 to 6.5 because it just shows their lack of support and if they treat x1 customers this way then the same is gonna go for x2...
my point exactly comeradealexi, the only reason why i am on the stock rom still is because i still have not found a clean rom (which i will be cooking as soon as i can find build 23017)
x1 support from SE was a pain, with panels that are still yet to be developed, i strongly believe x2 support will be the same...anyone want to buy my x1 feel free to contact me
why buy the x2 to get 6.5 when there are kitchens, chefs and roms?

my sentiments exactly, only reason why I'm hanging on to this baby is because I need find a suitable replacement. I dunno what to get, don't like htc cos they were instrumental in X1's poor build quality, nokia (nah!) to many cheap looking ****e (look at n97), apple - I dunno cos for a supposed smartphone it's not so smart - maybe if they change the design, throw in a hardwear keyboard and make the os customisable then a big maybe, samsung, lg, I just don't know cos I need something that's easy on the eye.
Plus HTC Support is not a dream either.
Not all of the devices will get the 6.5 upgrade.
Im not getting rid of the X1 just yet, well whenever I get it back that is
I hope many panels, programs and other goodies would be posted somewhere from the X2 so we can use them on our X1.
Does anyone get the impression:
X2 panels will onlly be compatable with X2, (or SE will make us think)
If not you may have to pay for new panels?
I hope the panels are put on SE site and can be downloaded to X1 and not specified to be X2 only. I just get the impression they will do this to try to force us to buy X2.
No facts here just opinion
I agree with your opinion.
X2 panels will not work with X1.
It looks like the people who bought X1 need to customize on their own or be satisfied with R3 and the pathetic panels that have been available.
I have officially given SE the last of my hard earned money.
Think we can just dump the complete x2 rom when it's released and get all cool stuff out of it and cook it in a nice custom rom(with wm 6.5)
if the panels do not work on the x1, i believe the panels will only work with the new panel manager which should work on the x1 with the respected drivers installed...
for SE not to give us the new panel manager is the worst thing they can do if the new panels cant work on the x1...i think that would be the worst kinda customer support a company can give...
do you think if apple changed dmg to dmh, then dmj, then dmk everytime they release a new version of their OS that their customer base would be as strong as it is?
thats why i dont like symbian that much either, i believe a system should be universal
who on earth want to buy a new xperia whenever new panels are introduced with a new xperia, for the sake of having the panels???? lets not hope this is the plan of SE
