thief track software - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

hi!
i found some software that tracks your phone if it was stolen but i read on some forums that it doesn't work if you haven't opened google maps!and i don't think a thief will open it
do you know if there is one that works?
here is a list of those i found:
sprite terminator
ultimate theft alert
wimp
StopThief
Antitheft
Remote Tracker

I don't understand, You have read google map must be opened on your phone before being stolen or you must use google map to find your phone?
you aren't need of google map on your phone.
I tryed other but i'd rather use WIMP, and i think it's really nice if you configurate it correctly. You have just to send a sms on your phone and it reply with gps coordinate without alert for the thief.
Of course, you need something like google maps to find your stoled phone, but you can use another GPS too.

I have used remote tracker and it worked very well
You do NOT need to open google maps for it to work!
Read http://remotetracker.sourceforge.net/ for more info.

i heard of a bug wich didn't allow the app to start the gps chip and so it only worked when the chip was started by another app (i.e. google maps). maybe they fixed it...i hope so

Anyone know of a mapping app that will save the maps for OFFLINE viewing? I don't use WiFi all that often, and I would like the program to save the maps for my city, so I can view them offline.
Any ideas?
TIA
I love the google maps app, but have found a problem. It seems to have added a function under the contacts menu for outlook contacts that allows you to search google maps for a saved address. Only problem is, I have yet to get it to work. I always get an error message saying the address doesn't exist. I've even gone so far as to type in my address, copy the address format directly from google maps itself, pasted it in to my contact and I still get the same error. Any ideas would be helpful. Thank you.

If I remember correctly, map4pda has a function to cache to your memory card. I don't use it anymore though, for that reason actually.

Yeah, the address location thing doesn't work for me either
It always says "Unable to locate: " then the address, exactly as it should be.
I'd imagine Google will fix it soon. I just checked for a new version but it's still the 1.0.1 version.

I have this problem too. I have GPRS disabled and I would like to keep multiple driving directions for offline viewing as well. Map4PDA and Google Maps doesn't seem to be able to save information for offline driving directions. I emailed the developer for Map4PDA to see if there was a way, but no response yet. Anyone have any ideas as to be able to do this? Thanks.
Google Maps is working great for me right now. Like stated previsously, contact's address does not work.
I also use Virtual Earth Mobile...another great mobile map application.
I would use map4PDA, but i don't want to have to install .NET CompactFramwork as it takes up a lot of space on my PPC. I've used it before, and it's great, but I'll just stick with Google Maps & VirtualEarthMobile.
wm6 and google maps? a match made in hell?
Wondering if anyone knows a solution to this problem. I am running Google maps and wm6 and was wondering if there was a way to get it to stop coming up with the following error; "This program requires a data connection, and will retry automatically. in the mean time, please check your signal strength. (error:wininetReadError [6])"
It still loads the maps after prompting me with this annoying error screen. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
My best regards,
Gio
I get the same error as capncucci. I never tried the program with WM5 so I can't say if it occured there or not.

When i connect my WM5 to the pc with active sync and i use googlemaps i sometimes get this error also.
Gmaps just cant connect to the internet, when i press ok, it will work.
So proberly your connection (with AC, GPRS, WiFi) to the internet isnt that reliable.

The program itself is not, the people who doesnt know how it works and scream like a mad dog is.......
Google map doesn't store map data on your phone, thus, occupies very little space on your WM. That's the way it's designed to operate. By comparison, Google Navigator keeps all viewed mapdata until one deletes it.

X10 gps question

Hello guys, yesterday i used the maps and it said i need to turn my 3g on i usually have it off. And when i press navigate it said i need to enable gps and i did. So my question is doesnt gps run without 3g or internet on other phones? And also i wana know does it use data?
because google maps requires an internet connection...
I all depends on which application you use for navigation.
Short answer:
Check with the software instrucions / help files to see how it behaves and works.
Long answer:
Some map software's have all the map data you need for your region already packed with it.
Advantage: No data need to be downloaded within the region, fast, works offline.
Disadvantage: Tricky to update the maps and often charge you for additional regions. Takes up space on the device.
Other apps download maps on the go as you navigate.
Advantage: Always the latest maps as you navigate. Takes less space on the device. Disadvantage: slow or even non-functional with poor or no data connection.
Google maps and Google navigation are of the latter one. They downloads maps as you navigate. therefor it is a good idea to have a data-plan with your provider so no additional expenses comes to.
They are free to use, so if you already have a data-plan with your provider, it's practically free.
On the X10, there are one application included by Sony Ericsson on most X10 sold out there: Wisepilot.
Wisepilot are the kind where you buy maps and download them into your phone, once this is done, it will use little or none of your data-connection.
I'm not sure, but I think Wisepilot are the kind that can be used offline once maps are bought and downloaded.
It can use the data-connection to download additional information such as "speed limit cameras", "spots of interest" and so on.
Try Mapdroid
This app downloads the MAP files when internet is available and can be used offline also with GPS activated..... try this, this is da best app

hey, when you use google navigation, will you be able to use the voice guidance??? I am having troubles to use the voice guidance...not sure how to activate it....
Having to buy the maps and such for wisepilot.. I wish there was a better solution for GPS on the x10. I wouldn't mind using it, but not necessary.
You can use GPS without 3G. I can even get a lock with my phone in airport mode and inside a cement building. When I say cement I mean cement, the floor, walls, and ceiling are all cement (hurricane proof). It is the third (top) floor however.
GPS software on x10
Currently I installed Navigon, Ndrive, MotoNave and Copilot 8 on my x10i with various world maps and all fully functional without 3g or network connection, direct data from satellite in orbit with the phone inbuild GPS receiver. Why you may ask? Because I can. How you may ask? The answers is out there! I am giving you the knowledge , now go and find your answers.
X10 is an Awsome device.
Another solution is to use the Brut Google Maps mod. It allows you to view previously viewed maps from the SD card. It saves the Google maps cache to your SD, but the only downside is that you have to view all of the places you want to travel on at all zoom levels.
If anyone needs it, I have the majority of Menorca done at all zoom levels......
I tend to use google navigation, the best bit of this is when you have your route downloaded and the voice guidance starts, you can then switch off your 3g and it still routes you. Obviously if you take a wrong turn it won't be able to download a new route until you switch 3g back on, but hey
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Wow really.. so I can use my phone's gps rather than my car's and I DON"T need 3g?? that's sweet..
Only too bad I don't know how to install any other GPS on my phone... I'm such a noob. Back to my magellans GPS .. ool
Anyone willing to go through the process with me ? haha

the google navigation works fine, just there is no voice guidance... It only has the "beep" sound when it is about to change in direction (like make left/right turn, stay in the lane, or heading out to the exit) So I am wondering how to make it with turn by turn with voice guidance turn on...

Best device for my needs. Great apps, awesome GPS, great camera, storage space (16GB), 3G & wifi and movies.

How can I change S Voice navigation?

Hy.
I bought iGO navigation and I am wondering how can I replace the S Voice navigation (originally the Google Maps)?
Is it possible to change the Maps to iGO software?

IF you have purchased the iGo legally (it is available for limited countries only), the question is ridiculous....
what for do you want to replace it? What would you like to replace?
As the navigation program, start iGo. and the iGo itself is able to use ant Text-to-speech engine you have installed on the phone.

Hmm... it is quite mysterious and hidden trick to be used, I misunderstood you first time, apologies.
OK, to do the trick, you have to follow a deeply hidden, top secret Samsung;s procedure, which I will reveal for you...
Follow the LINK (do NOT populate it with others, it is deepest hidden Samy's secret!!!!111).
Use the SECOND link... it will be most appropriate for your level...
I wish you success with the hacking your phone using this procedure for highest level geeks....

Change default Navigation App

Hi. I want to change my default Navigation app to basically ANYTHING except Google Maps. Wanted either CoPilot, Here, or Waze. I have my search provider set to Bing even but when I click on any direction link, it takes me to Google Maps. I've gone into Apps and even disabled that and ensured other Nav apps are set to open always, but it still goes to Google and Then takes me to the Play Store so I can download/Enable Maps. Any way around this? Pretty crappy of Google to do this....
Go to settings/apps & notifications/default apps/opening links. Scroll down to Maps and click on it. Click on open supported links and select don't open in this app. Hopefully it will let you choose your other navigation app when you click on a link but I've never tried that. The reason Android wants to use Maps is because Maps is integrated with Google Play Services and your Google account and a third party app won't provide the same kind of integration because it would require giving a third party app elevated privileges that are not allowed without root.
Hi and thanks. I had already tried that unfortunately. It doesn't work. ANY link you click for directions on a web page, even if asked to open only gives the option of Edge and Maps. A calendar invite or something like that will ask and give a list of valid mapping applications like Waze, Here, etc. But links on a web page......only Maps.
Having Maps integrated with Google Play services is just another reason NOT to want to use it.

Thanks for the reply. Bummer. So Google locks you into their apps even if you search with Bing. Seems like Microsoft got in a lot of trouble with the government about 20 years ago over this sort of tactics.
