I had JF 1.5 cupcake with hard spl and apps 2 sd2 well I noticed my phone was lagging a lot and force closing a lot so I wiped it while I was at work and it was much faster then I restored my apps and market kept forcing close after doing marcus apps2sd commands but not the program.
then i wiped again and used jf lucids app "lucid app" and it still forced closed then I did the wipe again and did the marcus again using the terminal not the apps2sd2. well I gave up so I bought a new card for 3 bucks brand new never opened 8gb class 4 from my buddy.
now I tried to unmount the card and put the 8gb straight in out of the box and the g1 screen freezes. so I thought it was because of the apps so I put the old sdcard in and it booted phone then I made the biggest mistake ever apparently and formated the card with paragon the old sdcard I mean.
now the phone won't boot just hangs on the g1 screen no matter which card I put in and I can still get into recovery but am not sure what do from here I've tried wiping it with the old sdcard and the new sdcard and with no sdcard nothing works.
I have adb 1.5 on my pc and everytime I try to push update.zip to /sdcard/update.zip it says sbin/sh adb: not found.
what can I do.
it's my only phone.

whats the error message it says when your wiping ?? try to use haykuro rom, and see if that will work
the wiping goes fine no errors it just hangs on the g1 screen.
I can't load anything on the sdcard I broke my usb sdcard reader so I dont' have one now I always use the phone.
is there a way to fastboot and do it?
am I gonna have to reflash rc29 and start all over again?

yea you need a card reader, if you where in dallas, i have plenty of those, they come in handy when flashes dont work right
I was able to flash the images seperately now I'm gonna flash jfmod back onto the phone so far so good except my service keeps cutting out.
ok new problem I managed to get the phone to load like I said earlier and installed the new sdcard now I did another wipe and then applied the update of JFMod and its stuck yet again.
when I go into fastboot and try fastboot update update.zip it says something like android-info.txt not found

I have been trying for almost 2 hours to try and partition this thing. I've looked through countless threads about Partition Manager, SD2Apps, and using Terminal and none of them work. Is it because I am using the MicroSD card the phone came with?

The SD Card the phone came with is a Class 2 SD Card, so if you are looking to do Apps2SD then you should stop right now until you get a Class 6. If you don't use a Class 6, you're going to have force closes all the time.
The easiest way to partition your sdcard IMO is to use GParted. Download it, burn it to a CD and boot it up.
Honestly, if you're unable to figure out how to partition your SDCard I think you may be walking a thin line here and have a high probability of screwing something up...no offense.
Than that must be why, because I tried to do it manually with Terminal Emulator and it said the card didn't have enough space, than it made all of my applications quite unexpectedly. Than I restarted my phone and it got stuck on the Android loop screen, and I am in recovery mode trying to reinstall the latest JF update.
Hi,
So i have APPS2SD and the cache is also moved to SD , and its been for a long time. I have been running JF ADP1.5 with no problems. About a week ago, my SDCARD somehow got corrupted, but from what i realised it was only the windows partition which i could access and copy apps/music etc to. The ext partition used by android was fine. Untill I removed the card from the phone today while the phone was still on, and obviously the phone completely froze, but thats normal a restart will solve this (as long as I put the sdcard back in) BUT this time. It wouldnt go past the boot screen "T-Mobile G1"
Any ideas ? Do i have to flash the phone and start from the beggining ?? if yes how ?

If I were you I would just reformat the card and throw an update.zip on there and start again. You don't have to start from the beggining you still have root.
Well, I wanted to do that actually , but windows doesnt seem to be able to recognise my card anymore (after the corruption) It just doesnt showup anywhere NOT even in Data management.......:S
Any ideas how to format the card ?
Are you trying to read it thru the phone or a card reader?
Its ok, I sorted it out......I formated the card using my nokia phone (Wierd ? its the only thing that managed to format the damn thing).
and I did a full wipe Now my phone is back like new.........gotta install everything again.
Thanks anyway guys for the help.
Good deal.
I tried to update to the 2.33 jachero rom got a bootloop
tried an older version got a bootloop
tried the dudes build got a bootloop
i then used and old sdcard from my sidekick and i got on the dudes build
i tried to use apps2sd on the stock 1gb card which i previously already had and it said i didnt have a partition on it which i did previously so it set it up and rebooted into a bootloop
is this a bad sd card?
any ideas?
Is it trying to move the /data to the sd? If it is, that would be the issue, Least it was for me when I went to 1.51
sorry havent been on here in awhile been on vacation
i tried upgrading to jacshero2.3 at the time and i just got a constant bootloop nothing would happen so i took an old sdcard from my sidekick lx and put back on the dudes build and it worked but i cant reboot the phone from the sd card i tried to install hero on it will bootloop.
also i lost appstosd nothing saves to the sd but if i open partion manager it says i still have ext2.
and if i use appstosd it says i have to partition my sd card and if i try it the phone reboots and bootloops
Yea sounds like you need to redo the sd card.. Id just save the apps and apps-private folder and wipe the rest. Then put the apps and apps-private back on after you wiped the card then relink them.
is it a simple copy and paste
it started up today wit the sd card so ill reformat it
Its not a simple copy and paste.. Usually if you use linux you need to make sure the attributes are saved as well. cp -a
ugh, here we go:
I am running cyanogenmod 4.04 with the latest recovery. I have the hard spl. I am not themed. I am using auto apps2sd with partions.
Soooo, this was working well until I had to take out my sd card for something. As soon as I did, the whole phone froze up, so I restarted. The first 'alert noise' that usually occurs after startup happpened at the end of the android screen. After this I was bombarded by a HELLUVA lotta force closes. I mean, all over the place. In these was included advanced launcher which I had my home set as as default. They would all loop, and I couldn't do anything. Oddly enough, the notification bar was still working, and I was able to view and answer an email!
My question is as follows:
1: what did I do wrong
2: what can I do to fix it.
-
For several reasons, I would really like to avoid wiping at the moment, so if there are any alternatives, I'd appreciate it.
1) took out sd card
2) fix_permissions in recovery

Then I can put it back in and reboot?
EDIT: I did the above and nothing interesting happened.
It might be worth noting, however, that I rebooted without the sd card, installed ahome lite, and then didn't set a default home. I was able to use 'home' with the sd card in, and that works fine, as well as the apks packaged in cm (dialer, gmail, alarm clock ect.)
So basically it's like this with Apps2SD... say you are running Windows on your desktop, but you have all your programs installed to an external hard drive, you have a whole lot of programs up and running (not to mention you have your pagefile split across your drives - dalvik-cache), and you rip that external hard drive off. What do you expect to happen? Major system failure.
When you are running Apps2SD, the only time it is safe to remove your SD card is when the phone is NOT booted or booting. Meaning, it has to be off or in either the bootloader or recovery modes.
You may have to format the EXT partition of your SD card, wipe, and reflash your ROM.

****.....let me see if I an access my sd card with this adapter, hold on.
ugh, put the card in and reboot into recovery and go to the console and type 'fix_permissions', you have to have cyan recovery or use the one with more options like the RA, link in sig, i think there is even an option for it and you don't have to type it in console.
i transfered all my data to my new sd card. shut the phone off and put the new card in. booted it. i got a text. tried to reply and wouldnt let me. phone shut off and wouldnt boot. i went into recovery to clear cache and dalvik cache. rebooted and now its like its on a fresh new rom no apps no nothin. but its EXTREMLY SLOW now. 5x slower than my htc hero. and its freaking out.
i tried nand back up.. nothin. i tried everything.. wont stay on long enough for ruu.
so any ideas to help me fix this.
I usually format the new sdcard with the phone. Then I copy onto it, except for lost.dir which does not get over written.
Use the settings to unmount the sdcard, then reformat it. Copy from the old sdcard on to the new. Hopefully that will do.
ok i will try that in a sec. thank you
Did you get one of those cheap memory cards from China? If so, that may be the problem. I tried one of those cheap SD cards when I first got my phone and it worked all kinda ways messed up while it was in there. Try putting the old card back in. If you see it works with no problems, then it's your SD card.
the phone is still glitched out even with the old card
EDITwilly900wonka after i did that process it worked. probably not a smart move copying the file over as well. i just did a exact copy with all the files. nand .androidsecure and everything else on the lines of movies music and photos

Weird. Try wiping cache and dalvik cache,. If not, hopefully you have a NAND backed up that you can restore to.
Once you get your EVO back up and running I would advise you to run AVG Anti-Virus to speed your phone back up. Also install a custom ROM, this will most defiantly speed up your EVO.

i been using custom roms. but i was on mikfroyo then myn warm. then MIUI which i loved but it wont accept it now. so im off to something new. i tried koin elite. but that sucked for me...
I made the mistake of putting a blank SD card into my phone then formatting it with the phone. I lost all my apps etc. Even transferring all the files back to the phone didn't fix it. What I found you should do is boot into recovery before you ever boot into the phone. Then format and create the needed partitions, then mount the SD card while in recovery and move the files to the card. Wipe cache and dalvik and reboot. Phone acts like you never changed the card. From my experience its the most problem free method
Sent from my (insert daily ROM name here) Evo 4g
Whats the best SD card for the EVO?
Say I want a 16GB card.
Does the evo support class 6 and 10?
Can I then use the MikFroyo A2sd? Or do I need to start with a wipe and a fresh install of MikFroyo?
ive had this happen during an sdcard switch as well. weird since I wasn't using apps2sd. i had to restore my nandroid.

it sucks. but oh well.
Nandroid FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
had that problem on my first 2 card switches the realized that what works for me is taking old card out, putting new one in(i do not open anything)just go to format the sd card then put the old one back in plug phone to pc in usb drive and opend my pc hit folder properties on my phones drive and select view hidden files. then copy all the info into my pc. then close all open windows on pc and change my phone back to charging only then unplug turn off the phone and remove and replace sd card with new one, turn on again plug to pc in usb drive and copy all the files i copied into the new sd card and hit replace on all the repeated folders. that method works flawlessly for me every time
