Bluetooth issues with Sennheiser MM200 - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Bluetooth works on my Vodafone HTC Magic, but it's a fiddly pain in the arse. Process seems to go something like:
1. Turn on headset
2. Headset connects for phone audio only (music still plays on phone speakers)
3. Go into bluetooth settings, disconnect headset (if it isn't stuck, in which case exit and re-enter settings, or if that doesn't work boot the phone).
4. Re-connect headset (from within settings), which now connects for phone and media audio.
5. Play music, which then often skips for half a second or so about once a minute. If it skips constantly, jump to the next track which usually solves that.
The skipping doesn't always happen, but it does seem to happen regardless of whether I'm at home, work or in a tube station, and whether I've got the phone in my pocket or held up near the headset.
The quality's not bad apart from the skipping, and usually it doesn't skip enough to be truly annoying, but it's still a little disappointing from a £350 phone and a £90 headset.

So, I had the exact same problem, and I may still have it. I have now rooted my phone and applied the sapphire 6.0 update. I'm listening to music right now and it's working fine now with no skips. Having said that, however, I found that sometimes it would work flawlessly before as well.
Anyone have another A2DP device that acts similarly? Or is the problem with the magic.
When I connect eh MM200 to my macbook-pro it sometimes refuses to respond to the button pushing and such. Not sure what exactly that indicates.

I've also rooted and updated to 6.0, still got the problem. I think to be honest it actually pauses rather than skips (I caught it pausing for ~2sec once, it's harder to tell with the shorter "skips")... it still does it when there are few other processes running, so I'm not sure what is bothering it. TBH I've not really tried it playing music without the headset to see if it happens anyway!

I've beemn messing with my phone (Magic) all day try to get the bluetooth to connect to my bluetooth usb dongle or my old phone, both of which work fine together and with everything else,
My PC can find the HTC Magic when i put it in to visable mode, but other then that it wont show up and service's for me to use with the phone,
My old phone (Samsung F700v) cant find the HTC Magic at all, altho i did manage to find the F700 on my Magic and pair them that way but still my F700 wont find it anywhere (with visable mode on,)
Am i missing somthing or does the Magic/Sapphire have a very bad Bluetooth flaw,
on a side note i've only had the phone less then a week and its not rooted, is it worth it? and is there a noob guide to the basic's eg. which version does what and what all the cons are?
Thanks
Edit:
guess i just found my answer...

Android does not support any bluetooth services other then "hands free".
This means that you can only use BT headsets.
Android (either G1 or Magic) phones cannot natively send files over BT, cannot use BT a modem, etc...
There is not third party tool so far to send files via BT to other devices.

How I finally got A2DP to (mostly) work

Hey everyone, I've been posting on this board for a few days now trying desperately to make ADp work as it should on my Prophet. Well. after many failed attempts and sleepless nights, I finally got it to work, so I though i'd share the story for the benefit of others who might be having trouble with A2DP (and maybe get a few of my remaining questions answered).
For the record, i own a Qtek s200 with the latest Dopod ROM, and a Bluetake i-Phono Mini headset. Here's what I did:
- First i installed the widely available A2DP patch (along witth the DLLs and the reg settings).
- Then I paired it with the I-phono (in Bluetooth settings, choose hansdfree and wireless stereo mode)).
- After trying most music players out there, I finally settled on PocketMusic 4.25. The reason is that almost no player actually has AVRCP controls integrated yet, and the only one that does, WMP10, for some reason would not recognize the Play/Pause function of the Bluetake.
- Now, almost everything works: I can play, pause, FF, Rewind, lower and raise the volume from the headset. When a call comes, i can answer it through the headset and when i finish, the music resumes. If you only want to use the headset for music, disable the handsfree profile and answer the phone normally.
-As far as skipping goes, it's not so bad: the music skips maybe once every 15-20 minutes, so it's tolerable.
So, this is where I am so far. I'm pretty happy with it, thought there are a few things I thought would work that i still haven't figured out:
1. To initiate handsfree mode, all i have to do is click on the phone button of the headset, and immediately it switches from normal to handsfree. So far, so good. However, i haven't found how to do the same thing for music. Everytime I want to switch from listening to music on the phone itself to the headset, i have to go to Bluetooth>settings>devices>refresh>wireless stereo>save. It's very annoying, there should be a one-button way of doing this.
2. Sometimes, after I restart pocketmusic for example, the wireless stereo pairing will be lost and the sound goes "nowhere", meaning it doesnt even come out of the phone anymore. And even reestablishing the wireless stereo profile will not solve this, i have to soft reset and re-initiate the pairing.
3. Finally, I haven't found a way to easily go from handsfree to normal (the reverse of problem 1). It is also very cumbersome.
So, all in all, I'm pretty happy with how things work, and would defintiely recommend this combo, if you dont mind the few problems I've listed. As for those, unless someone has found a way to make these things work, I think the best solution would be for HTC to implement a Bluetooth headset quick menu in a future revision (sort of like what they have right now for Wifi/Push email/phone, only made specifically for bluetooth). I wouldnt mind if my phone had an extra button just for that.
My 2 cents...
Thanks for the information
Hi tdx, that was great information and I have it working on my Prophet (imate jamin). If you have found a solution to your final problem please let me know as I too am looking for this, but at the moment I am very happy with the way this all works (the i-phono mini headphones are great).
Cheers,
Winkie
Well. I made some headway since I posted this:
- Pocketmusic still works, and is still the best software for the Iphono Mini. But it's still eating up my resources.
- Pocket Player has come up with a beta version of their plyaer that sort of works, and is more user friendly. But, like WMP10, the play/pause button doesn't work, while it works in pocketmusic. Hopefully with the final release of their software, it will work completely, and I'll be able to switch to that.
- TCPMP, my favorite media player, doesn't support AVCRP, but they're supposedly coming up with a major (ie paying) release this month, soI'll keep my pinkies crossed and wait.
- Finally, regarding the pairing problem, I think it's due to the lack of an official support of ADP in the Prophet. Since other cellphone/headset combos work, and this one doesn't (you have to initiate it manually every single time), I guess it comes down to the Prophet's A2DP unofficial implementation not being good enough.
But i've given up on the idea that there will be an official ROM upgrade for the Prophet with A2DP. HTC has moved on to the TyTn, and, as usual, they'll make us buy their latest cellphone if we want A2DP. As much as i love them, sometimes they really, really bugger me...

Bluetooth Skipping

I just got this phone yesterday and so far I'm still on the fence about keeping it. I just came from a Nexus One and I miss 2.2 severely but I can manage to wait another 30ish days.
To the point of this post...
I have a bluetooth radio in my car which I connect my phone to and play all of my music. On the way to work this morning I Connected the Vibrant (for the first time) and the audio was dropping out. It happened randomly and sometimes for 1-2 seconds. I've been using my N1 for BT and I've never had a problem.
I've searched Google and I haven't found anything for the Vibrant.
Anyone else experiencing this?
I had this issue and turned off wifi and it went away. I think it only happens when you have wifi enabled but it isn't connected to an access point. Maybe it is from perodic wifi scanning to find an access point.

I hear you. Same story regarding 2.2. Still waiting though...
Regarding bluetooth, I can connect without problems to my Genesis Coupe 2010, whether WiFi is ON or OFF. As a matter of fact, I have all WiFi, BT and GPS ON all the time. I have not experienced any difficulties with the audio. This applies to the car/phone functionality, as my car does not support the audio streaming profile.
I'm on my second Vibrant, since I exchanged the first one due to a rattling volume key. The first one had trouble connecting to the car and I thought it was because of 2.1 (Nexus with 2.1 never connected to my car, it did just after 2.2)
One thing I did before attempting to connect to the car was a factory reset. I did it because I started to play with the GPS settings and wanted to go back to factory condition. I mention this because maybe the first one would have connected if I had done a reset to factory as well, but that I'll never know!
My phone is not rooted or modified in any way. No task killers, or anything extraordinary installed.
I have the same problem with my Vibrant. And I had the problem with the G1 as well. There's a defect out there for this (can't recall the number). The problem is with Android.
You can try this.
"Default [FIX] Fix poor AAC streaming performance (Pandora, Slacker, etc) on Froyo
When I installed Froyo on my N1, I found that streaming quality over Pandora suffered tremendously; low-quality was unbearable, and high-quality sounded worse than low-quality normally does. The change to StageFright from OpenCore is to blame here, while it improves HTTP streaming, it's AAC decoder doesn't decode LC-AAC streams properly.
To disable it temporarily, use
Code:
adb setprop media.stagefright.enable-player false
and restart any applications actively playing anything. To disable it permanently, pull build.prop from /system and change the value there. When you restart, it should be disabled; use adb getprop to verify.
Of course, the phone needs to be rooted for this to happen, as r/w access to /system is required.

One other side note: this change also appears to fix the bluetooth "skipping" issue that appeared in 2.2 as well.

Stagefright isn't in Eclair, It's in Froyo and Pandora has already updated to fix this issue [for me anyway].
I'll try switching off Wifi and seeing if that helps. Thanks for the replies.
I'm having the same issue with my jabra halo headset. It's quite annoying. OP please post if you find a good solution.

make sure nothing is blocking or touching the back of the device, this is where the antenna is located. The ' skips ' you get is when your devices can't find each other... and when they do re connect , you hear a change in the pitch of your music... this is not skipping just a signal block.. if you want to confirm, download the logcat app from the market.. and there you will be able to see what is happening when you get a ' skip '..
hope this helps...
This happens to me as well when trying to connect to my Sony headunit via bluetooth.. Its not skipping.. The music just cuts out for a second or two randomly...I have tried using a mxzing and the standard music player, but it still skips out every once in a while....I will try turning of wifi to see if that helps...
I can use the bluetooth for phone conversations and it works fine with no skipping... I can plug the phone into the head unit via the headset jack and it works great with no skipping... It is only when attempting to listen to the music player through bluetooth that it skips!
Even if you get it to stop skipping the quality is so poor its not worth listening. Broken GPS, compass, and bluetooth, fix this Samsung!

Try swapping between aux and bluetooth on your phone and you'll know what im talking about. On second thought, maybe you shouldn't if it sounds okay to you now .

This was the same problem I had. My music was constantly skipping when I listened to music at work. I thought it might have been the stock music player, so I downloaded MixZing (which I actually prefer now) and had the same problem. At first, I though it was the bluetooth on my phone...but sometimes it would play fine all night long without any issues. I started restarting my phone before playing music, thinking the OS just had some minor memory management issues. Finally, I realized that I was leaving my WIFI on when I left my house. I use WIFI at home and have never had skipping issues with my music. When the WIFI is on, and I'm not in range of a router, I think the skipping almost certainly happens when the phone polls for new connections.

[Q] Force music to non-A2DP BT device

So I've asked this before back when I had the Moment, but why can't I stream to BT on a non-A2DP device? No before answering the obvious, I experience the same things on the Epic that I did on the Moment where if I have music streaming, playing from the SD, etc and a call comes in, the music will automatically pause and I can take the call. Once I end the call, I the music will play for about a second or more through my BlueAnt Z9i BT and then it will revert back to the stock speaker on the phone itself. So what is preventing someone from taking advantage of that lapse of time where the music is coming through the BT and make it happen all the time? I'm sure there are COUNTLESS people who could use and benefit from this instead of buying a dedicated BT, I might be able to stream wireless from my phone to my car stereo (BT calls capable, but I cannot stream directly to it as an input), to my PC (which has BT), etc. Just throwing it out there since I've always wondered why we couldn't capitalize on the second or two and make it a normal operation. I tried to break this post into a couple of paragraphs, but the site wouldn't let me. Anyways, thanks all.
I would also be interested in this. I was able to do this with windows mobile so there's no doubt that it can be done on a non a2dp headset.
The fact that it happens, even for a second, tells me that something is delayed that is telling it to stop. Telling it to start might be in a whole different ballpark, but point is, it should be possible. I've got 3 different BT's floating around my house...one in the house sitting around on my desk, one that I always take with me in the car (gotta be safe, ya know ) and another I keep in the garage incase I get a call while I'm working on something and/or out mowing the lawn. I'd love to even be able to be following around the GF (shoot me now) while she's shopping...imaging how much better it would be to be able to play music or hear my games without people around me knowing the wiser. I don't want to have to buy and then wear a stereo headset.
App in the Marketplace called "BTSwitch" works on my devices. try out the lite version first theres a little audio flaw with the stereo music being converted to mono (i'm guessing) but then i'm an audiophile.

I'm trying this as well at the very moment. I only see one app with that name and I don't see anything referencing a lite version. My BT doesn't even like to connect while this app is installed, causing the normal BT settings to not even allow it to pair up. I had to remove the app and reboot the phone to get the BT to connect through the normal Menu > Wireless & Networks > Bluetooth Settings before it would connect again.
I know this may not be the best timing to bump this w/ all the Froyo excitement, but I'm sure myself and others would like to see this happen. I've still got my fingers crossed that maybe someone on the sidelines could help.
It's called Super Mono BT.....They have a Froyo addition as well as a "free" edition...Free addition is just a 5 day trial, after that it's 2.99. It works fine but it's not in stereo so it sounds like AM radio, LMAO. Worth a shot though just to try.
I was able to install the app, but it doesn't work for me...yet. The problem is that is requires Cynanogen Mod and I don't have that since I've (as of yesterday) flashed my phone back to stock DI18 while waiting for Sprint to send me an OTA notice to update to Froyo. I was WAY too buddy via the download available here, so I guess I wait to use this BT app. Thanks for the reply though, I look forward to being able to use it.

Bluetooth connection with LG G2 - what a mess !!

I came from the Samsung galaxy S2.
With the S2, when I turned ON the BT toggle at the notification bar, I would immediately get a screen where I could choose which BT device I would like to connect to. With the LG G2, I get no such screen. What a bummer, I thought this was part of Android...
In any case, this is the least of my problems, since the LG G2 has a much more severe one - unreliable Bluetooth connection.I think I got to the root of this problem though:
When you connect a device to the LG G2 using BT, you can choose two options for this device: "Phone audio" and/or "Media audio" (A2DP). You can tick both, or just one.
When I tick only one of them, I get perfect stable connection (but then I can only use it for phone, or for music, not both...). The problem is when I tick both of them. What happen is that when a call comes in, or when a call is finished, the G2 has trouble getting back to "Media audio" (A2DP), and usually the BT disconnects. So, the trouble seems to be in the change between "Media audio" and "phone audio", when the G2 is required to make this change, most chances a BT disconnection will result.
I have this exact problem with two totally different devices (both of them worked great with the Galaxy S2), these two devices are:
1. Pioneer DEH-P980BT car CD receiver unit.
2. Sony Ericsson MW600 wireless headset.
I have the LG G2 D802.
You can long press the Bluetooth icon in the power bar to access this screen. This works better for me since I always have my Bluetooth on for the car, but need quick access for my Creative Bluetooth speaker.

My bt is flawless call comes in it switches to phone audio then switches back to media after call has ended, never had any random disconnects. D800
The disconnections are not random, it happens when the phone needs to switch between media audio and phone audio.
Maybe this is a problem with the D802 only?

havent experienced these issues here so far myself!
No problem either, transition between audio and calls then back to audio operate smoothly (D802).
No disconection problem either.
But I do find the Bluetooth audio volume very low (compared to my previous iPhone 4 on the same car audio system), as reported by other users.
i have sa,e error. no solve
I'm having a similar issue. I have a uconnect 430 system in my Jeep, and every time I end a call, the bluetooth audio streaming playback doesn't quit on me, but continues at a slightly lower pitch, and slightly slower pace. Really bizarre, and I can correct it by disconnecting the phone and powering off the car stereo, then reconnecting everything. Haven't really tried to troubleshoot just yet but saw your post and thought I'd chime in.
I connect to my 2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. I have no connection issues, the phone switches from Wifi to Bluetooth well. If a call comes in I can answer and talk through the car, when I end the call it will switch back.
Some issues I have noticed that are different from my HTC One X:
1. When I switch to the Bluetooth input the audio plays then stops and I have to hit play on the car controls.
2. The audio clips and distorts periodically. I believe this is related to the bitrate of the audio, and may be on the Hyundai side. I mention it because it only occurred now that I use the G2.
3. The car controls will stop working seemingly at random, I have to use my phone to skip or pause. First world problems.
Edit: ATT D800 Rooted, CleanROM XE, had same issues on stock.
TMo D801, 14 Toyota Corolla, no problems at all with it.
BT audio works very well with my car also (D801), one thing that annoys me is that it automatically starts playing music upon BT connection. Is there a way of making it so that I have to do it manually?

I think a lot off people have old bluetooth equiptment that might not play nice with new. what version bluetooth does the equiptment have you are pairing with and are there any newer versions? Even though bluetooth is standardised if you search you will find often certain equiptment doesnt play nice with it, hence the supperted devices.

Problem with Bluetooth audio in the car

When I connect the smartphone with the car via Bluetooth, the music is just intermittent suonds. How do I fix this?
I would like to know this too, anyone?
I started having this same issue after the last/first Tmobile update, before it was fine.
Same thing here. The music would either play through the phone's earpiece or sound like a call playing through the Bluetooth speaker. I read YouMail was a cause so I uninstalled and it still happened I force closed the phone app and it worked normally after that. The issue may definitely be from the T-Mobile update tho.
Yeah been having an issue with volume fading after initial connection, drives me nuts since I use the phone for GPS and music streaming. so I use the v30 for bt music and OnePlus for gps
I'm having an issue with the phone trying to automatically connect to a second Bluetooth device and begin playing music on it. This happened tonight while following behind my wife's car.
Every time we stopped at a light it would connect and I would loose audio in my vehicle and play in hers. No way to stop it connecting other than forget the device or turn off all the functions in that device settings.

I have the T-Mobile 6T and I have this same issue.
It seemed like the previous update fixed it, and was broken by the current update. Anyone know if the international rom has the same problem?

I have converted my TMobile 6t to international and those bugs are fixed.

I'll be updating this on the weekend. Nothing worse than having the beat drop to have the volume drop...

Bluetooth nightmare
I've been having the same issue since I bought my T-Mobile 6T last year and am pulling out my hair trying to figure out how to fix it. I have a "GTA Car Kit" Bluetooth module installed in my '06 Mazda 3 and I use Android Auto with my phone docked in a CD slot mount to give me hands-free text messaging, navigation and music / audiobooks. My phone is also always connected to my android wear watch, so it's technically connected to two Bluetooth devices at once when I use it.
The problem is that audio playback via Pandora, Google Music and my audiobook app that plays on-device mp3's intermittently stutters or skips. It happens immediately sometimes, other times it will work perfectly for half of my commute and then start stuttering every few seconds until I finally just turn off the music/audiobook completely.
I've tried:
Turning bluetooth on and off
Turning my car radio on and off
Changing the developer mode settings for Bluetooth AVRCP Version, Codec, Sample Rate, Playback quality etc.
Clearing storage/cache for Bluetooth
Switching to the international version ROM for the device
Once I got the Oxygen OS v10 update I really though the problem was fixed, but after a few days of working fine it started skipping again.
Does anyone have any idea what's causing this or other things I can try?
[EDIT] I found one more new thing to try on the OnePlus 6T forums https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/bluetooth-stuttering-solved.1076196/
I'll give this a try and report back
