Hello,
I have the T-mobile MDA2 and something tragic happened this weekend. When I went to plug the device into the cradle, there was some resistance. When I looked at the connector on the bottom of the unit, two of the connector wires were bent. I tried to bend them back with a small screw driver, but the unit will no longer dock. Therefore, I cannot sync or charge. Does anyone know of a place that might be able to fix the unit. It is otherwise in perfect shape. Is there a way to replace the connector myself. Any help is greatly appreciated! Feel free to use my e-mail to respond at wal[email protected].
Thanks.
Brent

I sell the connectors on ebay - unless you are fairly confident with a soldering iron I'd get a mobile phone repair shop to do it for you. You may also have damaged other componants on the board when the socket was pushed up.

XDA II Damaged connection slot
Hi all,
I had the same problem with my XDA II, sent it for repair and it did exactly the same shortly afterwards, i bought a new battery and charged each one alternatively, but found problems syncronising and eventually gave up.
I have recently bought (my little gem) Xda Orbit, after many months examining what was on offer, I love it its is everything i expected and just a little more. Purchased a 2 Gig memory card and installed copilot on so i have sat nav and all my tunes. needless to say i have a spare Xda II up for offer for spares and such should anyone want to get in touch with me.
there is the Cradle and power charger, 2 batteries and it works well just as long as you dont want to connect it to your pc, anyway im new to this site, would be pleased if someone could point me in the right direction for Orbits here and please feel free to contact me, even if just for a chat and introduction. need to get established here.
cheers all, have fun and hopefully speak soon

I have had my XdaII since they where first out and it has worked flawlessly, i upgraded it ages ago with a rom from these forums and it has been used daily as a Sat nav and work phone solution. Never really missed a beat.
However like many with the Arkon mount the headphone adaptor broke and got jammed into the xdaII - as it was stuck with no sound i had to get it out. When doing this the socket on the xdaII got broken and has not worked since. This never bothered me but no i have a tomtom one and no use for the xdaII.
Can i get it repaired or buy the parts to repair it ? Is it worth while or should i just sell it as is ?
You might of just stressed and cracked a soldered joint on the socket, it's not too hard if you're half decent witha small soldering iron...
You just need to take the back off, about 6 screws.
This was the state of my Universal's USB socket. Note the four holding shoulders have come away from the board.
The middle three tracks off the board have come away from the board with the socket too - worse case scenario I'd have guessed.
Here you can see the repaired unit with the four shoulders relocated and all 5 pins reconnected.
As you can see, the 'tiniest' of wires have been placed there to make the contacts as I'd ripped the tracks off as mentioned.
I'd have put this down as a non-repairable. To be fair, I couldn't even see the connections without taking a photo and zooming in on the PC.
My friend did this for me today - he's a PCB specialist by trade.
Anyone needing a repair in the UK, feel free to drop me a PM and I'll see if he can do the same for you.
Cost would be around £20-£25 returned.
I thought mine was a goner - so relieved to get the unit back working!
Very good work.
I had the same problem with my universal after an accident with my car loarder cable.
But I had luck and got a replacement universal from t-mobile.
I have the same problem with my Polaris and I thought about repairing it and refurbish it to give it to someone to use it. The battery still holds. What I want to ask... where did you get the socket from? How much did it cost? You got only the socket... right?
greetings!
i have the following problem:
i baught a second hand hermes, which unfortuneatly has a dameged/loose miniUSB.
So when i plug in the usb data cable, the connection cannot be established. however, there is one position, when a connection can be established. for that, i have to plug the miniUSB caable in only approx. half the way or something like that.... i have to kinda fiddle around a little to get it to work.
i have not tried the headset(headphones yet, but my guess is, that it will be a pain in the ass...
long story told short:
anyone had the same or a similar problem?
anyone knows how to fix such a problem?
or should i just go and kick the ass of the guy who sold me that piece'o'crap on ebay...?
seriously, i really need your advice. if this cannot be fixed, i will have tot ry to give it back, i guess....
reagrds,krz
Hi KRZTF,
try to open the housing and look where the connector is placed.
If the pads on the PCB are fine try to resolder the connector.
If your not good at soldering, resell the device
Cheers,
scholbert
Mine got a pin that moved out of place, I just used a safety pin to push it back into place.
