Why don't you actually store the file on memory card for any future use?
Download it from freewarepocketpc.net
EDIT:
You had a bad link.
Try
www.google.com/gmm
or
http://www.google.com/mobile/default/maps.html

No problems with Opera.

When i go to m.google.com and click on Google Maps with the R3A stock rom Google auto-detects the phone as Xperia X1 but it says that the googlemaps is not compatible with the device and suggests i use google maps online instead.
I used IE on the same page and i managed to download it.

I got ya.
But it's better to use links I gave, so you just go to download for the platform of your choice.
More convinient. GMaps is just made for platforms, not for specific devices.

use this link:

Google Maps

I read that google maps are included on this- can anyone tell me if they are cacheable or do you have to DL them each time you use them? I can imagine data charges skyrocketing if they dont.....
maybe i will just stick tomtom on it.....
Once the data is downloaded initially, it is then cached. However, when you zoom in or out, it has to refresh and that is downloaded as well. But once you have it, it's saved.
can i do this from a wifi connection at home (free)?
Sorry, Google Maps does insist on an active internet connection when you try and run it, so that it can download as required. I doubt there's a way to spoof it. You're probably better off getting TomTom or iGo or something.

Google Maps? Where to find...
I also have my HD now for about a week now, and searched for Google just to try it out. However, I still haven't found it anywere; nor on on CD, neither on my HD (which they direct you to from the manual; Start - Programs - Google Maps). Are there different versions going round with or without it? I read somewhere that another dutch man had it on his one....

It's a lot easier to go directly to www.google.com/gmm...
By the way, it was not installed on mine (WWE version, bought in Switzerland)
its on the programs page, middle slot, top row.
@Rolud: Thanks for the link! Going to try it out (although I read that TT is better to use though...).
@indup: I tried both from Touch3D programs, all programs and from WM programs section, all were not showing up Google... But I've installed it now via the link of Rolud.
I guess there are different models out then; with and without Google Maps pre-installed. Would like to know more differences between them actually...

I hope its finally possible to get GPS working! I tried a lot of different versions of google Maps on my Hermes with external bluetooth GPS Keychain 2000, I never succeed to get it work. It realy s*cks!
Maybe the UK version has Google Maps, but the Dutch version doesn't? And that other person you mentioned had one that wasn't from Holland?
The other Dutch person also have an WWE version, just like me (don't know who exactly, but just read it somewhere here at another tread which I cannot find anymore due to the many treads and pages there are from HD users... ).
But I got it installed now, and at the HD it is working with GPS without any problems. It even got a good GPS signal although I'm in my room and it was very well positioned (2 to 3 meters difference)!
It also looks great on the screen of the HD
Some versions don't have Google Maps preinstalled.
Was looking at the HD at a shop the other day and there was no Google Maps on it, and the manual says
10.1 Google Maps (Available by Country)

My Belgian bought WWE version with firmware 401 didn't have Google Maps, but then I flashed it with the latest WWE firmware 405 release (made after the date I received mine apparanty) and that one did have google maps by default.
All the other european language ones I've seen so far all have the 401 level of firmware.
So with the ones delivered from now on, there might be Google maps installed with non WWE devices that have a 405 level firmware on them.
I bought mine today, and it has GMM preinstalled on it.
Mine didn't have GM preinstalled either
UK version bought in Belgium
ROM version: 1.14.401.3 (22273) WWE
It was not pre-installed on my HTC Touch HD. I could not follow the link win Opera. I used IE to download Google Maps and install. Hopefully it detected the correct version.
Much better getting Tomtom. If you're using google maps, with gps and 3G hard at work, you're gobbling the battery something insane.
I'm more curious to how to get GM as a tab like Manila2D had.

Webcamera Plus

Someone tested Webcamera Plus on the X1?

if you go to ( http://www.warelex.com/products/webcam/ ) and then have a look to the right of the page you will see options to download but obviously you will need to get the windows mobile version which once downloaded is a cab, so easy install but only downfall its a trial. But i belive if you was to google it you may find a torrent of the full version. but once installed you will need to use active sinc to get it running but it runs quite smooth and generally well

T-mobile TP2 google map problem please help

Hi guys i have t-mobile touch pro 2 with original rom and tmobile tp2 coming with pre installed google maps and when i check the version it was an old version and when i go to on my opera browser and type m.google.com/maps for downloading the new Google maps its giving me an and its saying on webpage (( sorry Google maps application dose not work on your Touch HD )) now i want to know are you guys have same issue ? is there anyway i can upgrade my Google map of my phone ? please guys help me out.
thank you
Yep, I also have this problem when attemptimg to update the version of google maps as well. I was under the impression that they have not created a version for the TP2 since it is so new to the US, but have no idea.
Google Maps
Which version of Google Maps are you trying to upgrade to? i just went through the IE browser and downloaded an update to Google Map to version 3.2.1 it was a version 2.2 something?
i updated to 3.2.1 no problem at all.
However, check the bing search application. I almost hate to say it, but it really is excellent and does voice recognitions as well!
I used Opera to attempt to update from 2.2 to 3.2.1. I also have a T-mobile branded TP2. Another weird things I have read is that the T-Mobile TPS is not called the Rhodium but the Tungsten. I am curious if this has something to do with it. I will attempt to update using IE instead of Opera to see if this resolves the issue.
EDIT: I just updated to version 3.2.1 using Internet Explorer instead of Opera and it worked perfectly. If Swagger did not state he used IE I would never have thought of this. Thanks!

don't pay attention to this stupid stuff. Its the Rhodium. Look on the inside of your battery compartment & it says Rhod230 or something like that.

Digital Compass on HD2 TMOUS.

I have a question to all HD2 TMOUS owners. Does this device have digital compass? Does it work properly with the Google Maps application?
The reason why I am asking is because it wasn't mentioned in the specs of this phone on the official HTC website. However it was mentioned in the specs of the Europe version of this device.

It don't remember if it is in the stock ROM (the app that is), but it is in the one custom ROM that I use (NRG ROMs). So, the ability is there even if the app isn't.
It works well.
works well

glad to hear that!
thank you

Please, my friend, help us on gettting this to work. How can we have the integration between Digital Compass and Google Maps? What should we do?
Thank you.
[EDIT]

I thinking (hoping) that what it does is provide accurate orientation information when there's little or no movement for gmaps to interpolate heading.
EDIT: also, the cab he has attached above is for the full compass app, not the tweak to make it work with gmaps

Here you go.
I have purchased the htc hd2 tmobile us in april. I have tried to run the digital compass but I have never had a success in using the app. I always get stock at the magnetic interference screen. I've tried every figure eight style you can imagine but it never works.
I recently noticed that is a big problem for me because I'm starting to use the gps feature on the phone.
Could someone help me on how to fix it ?
Thanks in advanced.
(i've already searched google and tried figure 8 vertically and it still doesn't work)
sigh

New googlemap 4.1- does it support D.compass?

Does the new 4.1 of googlemap support the compass? I just found out that googlemaps supports the HD2 digital compass(I have the usa t-mobile HD2) but I updated to 4.1 (version with voice lookup) already and I tried rotating the HD2, but the arrow still points in one direction no matter which way I turn the HD2. I tried disabling GPS in googlemaps and still didn't work. I tried manually setting gps to com4,57600, and still it won't give true facing.
*bump* nobody yet?

I downloaded it with Opera.
I can't get compass input yet.
It gives an error when I try to show the position of GPS photos.
It does install its cache to SD if it's installed there.
you can download the GPSMod Driver, it lets you use the compass with any application
