Making Goldcard: Strange SD Serial - Wing, P4350 General

Im trying to make a goldcard for my bricked herald and im doing everything by the tutorial. but it still shows my the status as "FF" in mtty.
now a weird thing i noticed is that each time i connect my winmo device to get the serial via "psdread -l" the serial is different although it always looks a bit alike:
30a53100000000003000000000003106
or
20a53000000000003000000000003006
the serial in the tutorial seemed to have a lot less "0" than mine.
is something going wrong here?
ive tried it on vista and xp using either perl or qmat. both programs produce the same serial as long as the device is plugged in.
im using a 256mb Nokia card. (although i also get strange serials from a 2gb SanDisk)
im thinking that maybe its because my winmo device only takes normal SD cards. so im using a microSD to SD card converter in my device. could that have an impact on the serial??
i really dont know what to do as ive followed the tutorial 1:1
please help me if you can!
regards

Please help! HardSPL problems..

alright so I'm new to this, but I followed the instructions to hardspl, and got up to the point where i had 4.70yang as my spl, and was going to flash through SD. it wouldnt read the SD card, and i tried formatting it in FAT32, with the allocation unit size to 4096, and when that didnt work, i tried other variations. Then I figured I'd try flashing the other way, but couldnt do it because i couldnt get a sync with the computer. I didnt know whether to go into the actual canonyang ROM, but anyway I did, and if I connect the USB cable, nothing happens, no activesync. i tried the bootloader screen, no USB connection. every other alternative i saw, removing the hardspl, flashing otherways, etc etc i cant do without a USB connection. im not sure if i did anything wrong, im convinced i didnt. im hoping the solution is really simple, cause i cant get activesync to work.. im really frustrated, lol. if anyone could offer solutions, that would be amazing.

Please keep all non-development posts off the development forum.
As far as your problem goes:
Activesync won't connect per say in SPL mode but it should still let you flash. In SPL mode, there is no syncing so the icon never turns green but it still works just fine. As far as working with the SD card, the SD card cannot be a SDHC card. The SPL doesn't have a SDHC driver.
Try a smaller SD card (2GB's or less since they are usually non-SDHC) or flash through SPL even though activesync doesn't show as connected.
sorry about posting it in the wrong place. where should i have posted? and thank you for replying
and what IS the SPL mode? what screen should i be seeing? cause if i let it load then it just goes to the regular phone screen as if im on an actual OS, and sync doesnt work there. and yes im using a 2gb SD card, not SDHC.

Ok, make sure you followed these SD Flashing instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581996
It should work. And also, please read up on the terms, and that will help you understand everything.
And what Ivan was referring to, about flashing without ActiveSync connected....put your phone into the bootloader, connect USB, wait one minute, and then attempt to flash. Tell me if you did EVERYTHING in the first paragraph's link first, though.
OK. I see what the problem is. You're in the OS but the OS is the stripped OS.
Hold down your camera button and then press the soft reset button. Then you'll be in SPL mode. From there you can flash anything you want.
hey thanks for the help ive flashed a ROM or two using flash center so thats working fine i got past that. but im still trying to flash through SD. it wont read my card still after formatting it to FAT32 and putting the HERAIMG.nbh file. i read on another post that the nbh version number could be a factor? how would i go about messing around with that?
As I mentioned: Is your SD card a SDHC card? If it is, it won't work. The NBH version is set by the cook and if it works with the flash center then it works with the SD card. Any ROM created for flashing through SD card is made with the correct numbers.
Hey Ivan
I'm new here and i've flashed several ROMS via RUU, so far the Glass one is my favorite.. Since y'all are on the topics of SD or SDHC cards, quick question...
I have a 2 gb SD card and i've been unsuccessful in flashing via SD. Formatted in fat32, named it HERAIMG.nhb and put it in the root, already been hardspled. Here's the question, in XP it shows as "Secure Digital Storage Device" I was wondering maybe the bootloader couldn't read the SD because it's the "secure" type not the regular one? Tried the quick format and full format to no success.
any input would be helpful
Secure Digital is what SD stands for. No matter what brand you use, that is what they are all called. There is no regular or secure SD card.

I Need Help?

I can get another WMDevice but how do i use it to get the Cid. I believe i can figure out the rest. Its just the whole CID thing i cant figure out.I need a Goldcard for dummies guide. I do run WinXP if that makes anything easier or worst. Thanks the help is deeply appreciated thanks.

you also need a prog called qmat, though its not free for the hd2 enabled version, though the old version will be enough to get the cid, just not create the goldcard.
mind if i ask why you need g card? its not needed for flashing anymore, use HSPL
EDIT - oh, and if you are thinking of using it to change the language on your phone !!!STOP!!! there are NO non tmous official roms that will work on your phone, they will ALL contain a radio that WILL destroy your phone.

long story short installed a rom on hd2 tmobile phone and it froze up i tried reloading different roms and nothing it would always boot back up to the bootloader screen even if it said install successful. so ive tried everything to try to recover it except the gold card method. I started with spl 2.10.000 now its on 2.00.1 and i want to get it back to 2.10.000 or get it to start up again. Also I did get qmat the trial anyways but how do i get the cid with that?
oops, biiig mistake, well im not even sure a GC will help, but anyway
get the free version from HERE (EDIT - oh you already got it)
run it with your other phone connected and the card you intend to use insterted, go to hardware forensics, winCE sd card utils, click 'get sd serial and Disk ID'
long number at top is your cards ID.
Doesn't that happen if you don't have a radio installed?

i tried that it says device not connected. So do i need a working hd2 or is there any other way to do this? my phone only boots up the to the bootloader screen and says usb at the bottom. qmat is not recognizing it. If i need a working hd2 phone i do work at a cell store i can **borrow** one for a bit.
doesn't have to be hd2, no, any "working" windows mobile, with the sd card you want to use in it. connect the phone, connect to active sync (doesn't need to sync, choose "connect without setting up") then run psas
so i have the Goldcard.img i loaded it with hex editor and tried copying it over to my sd card then loading leoimg. Once i edit it i need to reformat the card there for erasing everything. What am i doing wrong? Thanks.
when you write the goldcard image, you are writing it to the header, not the card, so formatting the card shouldnt touch the header.
Why do you need to format the card though? start with a blank, freshly formatted card, , load the goldcard image (you cant just copy it on, but i guess you know that) then copy on leoimg.nbh and put it in your phone. wheres the format part come in? (not being sarcastic, it was 18 mths ago i did it)

Kingston Micro SD Goldcard Problems, HTC Magic (32B) Vodafone

Hi all, I have Magic 32B (vodafone) and am following this rooting guide.
I got the "Incorrect Model ID" error, so made a goldcard using this guide, the 1st two sd cards i tried were not kingston ones so i wasnt that surprised when the pc said they needed formatting. Earlier i bought a 2gb kingston one and went through the process again, but the same thing happened, i tried again just incase i made a silly mistake but no joy
I followed the guide to the letter im pretty sure, what can i be doing wrong?
Any help very much appreciated.
Are you getting the new CID for each card when your swapping them out? Your apparently messing something up or it would be working.
I am yeah, i just tried a 4th time, the numbers i get (the kingston cards cid, reverse cid are the same each time so it cant be a typo etc.
I replace the 1st 2 chars with 0's to get the goldcard.img, format the kingston (using win7 format, fat32) then rewrite the *000 to *170 on the formatted card, and it wont read it.
Am i formatting it wrong?
Has that program to get the reverse cid changed at all? its called psas now.
Has anything changed about the .img's they email for free? does something else need to be done to it?
Are all kingston cards compatible?
I used a SanDisk when I made mine. Are you sure that your overwritimg the correct lines in HexEditor for the SD card? I ran into that problem ehen I made mine.

Im overwriting this part: h ttp://img222.imageshack.us/img222/2353/20197600.jpg
(screenshot, im not a spammer management)
Is that correct?
If you are running ubuntu you can do this:
1) if you already have the CID, use these sites (h ttp://hexrev.soaa.me/ and h ttp://psas.revskills.de/?q=goldcard) to generate the goldcard image
2) insert the SD card into your ubuntu box and run "dmesg" to know were it is attached (something like /dev/sdb1)
3) unmount the SD card using "sudo umount /dev/sdb1" (replace sdb1 by the device you have identified in 2)). It is a good way to be sure that the device you have identified is the good one
4) send the goldcard.img to the SD card using "sudo dd bs=512 if=goldcard.img of=/dev/sdb" (launch it from the place were the goldcard.img is stored, no number here... just sdb)
That's it... you have your goldcard.
As you can see it is very easy... just 2 command line (no hex editor or so on)
To verify just unplug and replug it...
I hope it will help.
O-p
What if youre not running ubuntu?
I ended up rooting using the SuperOneClick method and im happily running ginger yoshi now
Slightly off-topic but 10 posts to be able to post in the forum of the rom you use seems a bit excessive,

1. check if is formated fat32 - try another sd card.
2. restore - flash stock windows rom ( in my signature you could find guides ) - is best way to make sure if everything works well.
3. install android from the beginning ... i hope everything gets ok
The only problem is my comp won't recognize my phone when I plug it in so really there's no way for me to check

Install Windows mobile device center (Or active sync if on xp), you need this for the drivers.
Use Panasonic SDFormatter (FULL>Overwrite with size adjust).
Once done that download the HD2 Nand toolkit from NAND forum and then follow instructions in the guides or in a roms thread.
ok so i reformatted the sd card and it works!! thank you now my second question is do i put the rom on my sd card cause my comp still wont detect my phone
oh and i cant get my 3g to work is that because of the flash that was done or is that something else
ok im way confused im not quite understanding this i downloaded the tool kit but im not sure what to do from there this is all sandscrit to me lol im a mega noob im not understanding why my 3g isnt working???

What should I do, My SDCARD is not recognized on my pc and phone

I dont know what to do! I have been reading treads all day and I felt you might be the one
to point me to the right direction.
First of all, I'm a total novice to android. Just purchased a Dapeng A9230+ ics 4.0.4
and I've had a lot of headache trying to flash and get the scatter file for this device so
I gave up on flashing and custom rom changes and etc
I have a problem thats making me go nuts right now. I have a 16gb sdcard Kingston.
I have partitioned it for link2sd and swap (swap not functional yet as kernel does not support it)
I was in a hurry to check what was wrong with my phone cos at a time it refused to charge unknown
to me that the problem is from my usb cord that needed replacement. In the process of trying to know what was
wrong i put off the phone and on again. My phone will usually give a vibration to indicate the phone is off.
But I think there was a time i put off the phone, phone was off actually but didnt wait for vibration but just pulled out the
battery to check if something was wrong with the battery. I used another battery phone came on but my sdcard would not
load up as usual. Tried it on my pc. nothing happens
though, it would slow my pc a bit trying to load the card but at the end, no details will come up. I tried to format through
a card reader but it would tell me to insert disk that there is no disk in the drive.
What do I do now pleaseeeeeee??????
idk but...

After that is done, you select your sd. Type in: "select disk 1" where 1 is the number of ur sd it can be 0 or 4 just look in the list and after type

Dude,, usually without powering off the SD module in the phone if u plug out the battery, this issue likely to be expected. its all abt memory closure etc...
But i dont think ur SD card is repairable now. SD cards are completly solid state memories and hence non-serviceable
I dont know what cause it, and how to fixed it..
Last month ago I have the same issue for my 16gb kingstone usb flashdrive..
It happen so suddenly while I watch movie from it..(yes I use it for usb on the go).. I searching on web and had many solution n tried all of them (most of them try to format it) but it didnt even fix it.. Even when u want to format it, it still not detected, so what u want to be formatted..
Its very sadden me..cause I lost many important data on it..
Since it have life time guarante, I brought it on the store where I buy it.. N they still tried to fix it.. (they think like an expert LoL) n still no works.. Until they give up and give another brand new FD..
When I search on internet I have a conclusion that something ruin my Fd (Maybe) is some about linux kernel.. And can be fix by linux to, since im not linux xpert so I just give it up..
"It suck to have generated 10 post just to tell how happy n thankfull iam for using a rom they make."
