Ok, so I'm thinking of buying my friend's ATT 8525, but he had a malfunction with his camera so he had to remove it. Right now I have a Cingular 8125, could I take out my camera and put it into the 8525?
Thanks in advance!

Well only if it's the same part No. Download the manuals for the two phones and look up the parts - it'll show you pictures as well. You can get them here: www.mikechannon.net
To be honest I think you'll be very luck if they are the same part. I'd be more curious about what he did with the original camera and what fault it was that made him remove it completely. You can probably get a second hand camera pretty cheap off a parted out Hermes on the net. There are a lot of broken Hermes out there with white screen issues so I guess there are lots of parts available. Might even get the part from someone here.
Mike
Yea, I'll look up the manuals and if not, I'll check for parts on eBay.
Thanks for the input!

I was wondering if these will interchange?I'm thinking no...but thought maybe someone would have more insight on it...I have repaired tons of the 8125's..but haven't touched a 8525 yet....Just curious...Thanks for any help..

My best guess is no. I would be willing to bet that you would get both of them apart only to find out that the flex cables won't line up and you will just end up putting them back together again frustrated to have wasted so much time. The 8525 is the Hermes but the 8125 is a Wizard and the physical build is different.
Can anyone lead me to where to find a spare enclosure (not an external case).
The one that holds the whole thing together. Ok I need some help here to find the right term
My Athena fallen and I now got a bent Athena. An art piece I'm sure, but rather have it back to its shape, you know?!
So does anyone know where to find spares?
why dont you take a picture so we could see what exactly you need
Will need to find a mirror as it is the only camera I have
Anyhow I just find what it is. Is the SHELL. The black aluminum shell.
Is anywhere to be found it as a spare?
Thank you

Thank you.
I ordered the spare casing. Will post how it goes....
Sorted!!
I have received the casing, followed instructions and I now have a bright new Athena
The only bad thing is that the camera button and the volume sliders are missing from the replacing casing. and the camera button is a nightmare to take it over from the old one.
If anyone needs assistance with replacing the casing, just PM and I'll do my best to help.
So which did you get in the end, the brando one?
I'm contemplating doing mine at some point, it's pretty scarred.
I did go for the brando and it took about a week to receive it in Scotland.
The instructions are quite easy to follow, but the tools are a must, specially the flat tool to push the parts open. I got mine here when I repaired my powerMAC a few weeks ago.
does someone know where to get a new digitizer? my one is broken (the LCD itself is still fine) and I ordered this one. But they refunded me my money and said they are out of stock
Any suggestions?
Try the brando website.
It looks like they have a lot of spare parts...
If you can't find it, try to contact them, I got a few parts not listed this way.
Good luck

You can try here
http://www.gpsmidlands.co.uk/index.php?category=Pda Digitisers
but this is £90 of her majesty money
the one in your ebay link for £19 is unbelievable, are they for real?
Regards
they said they are out of stock but they promised to contact me if they get some "digitizer-only"
currently they only have full LCD screens for £150
as far as I can see the dealer seems to be realiable...
I have a Tilt, which (I'm sure most of you know) AT&T has intelligently decided to have HTC remove the front-camera from - ya know, the one that would make a video call possible...
Anyway, I found an HTC original TyTNII/Kaiser housing with the front bezel with the video 'hole' on it on CNN.CN for $70, and was wondering if anyone knows where I could get the camera portion of it, and if this conversion is possible? I already have Dutty's pre-departure WM6.1 ROM on the phone, so I'm anticipating that the ROM is capable of it - just not the phone.
Any success stories, testimonials, ideas, advice, words of caution or other?
TIA,
M
You know, of course, that the AT&T network doesn't support video calls -- that's why they didn't select the 2-camera version of the Kaiser.

No, actually, I didn't know that...I thought video sharing was possible with it...I guess I just assumed that meant even live video.
Well, nevermind this thread then!! Stupid AT&T.
Thanks!

Actually, it'd still be useful to know how easy it is to do it. Considering I'm currently using the Tilt in a country that does support Video calls...
i would be interested to know if this was possible as well
It would be great to know this, simply because it makes it easier to take self pictures and use your phone as a webcam. In fact, maybe we can get a seperate Kaiser 3 megapixel camera and stick it in that front cam area.
I personally think that it is not this easy to do and the costs propably would exceed the amount you saved by buying the Tilt Version of the Kaiser

Maybe...but to be honest, I bought 3 HTC's with cracked LCD's on Fleabay (8125, 8525, and the Tilt) for Under $400....then I fixed and resold the other two, and ended up with a 'Like-new' Tilt for about $120....Consdering what I would have paid new, I think I saved a lot more than just the difference between a new Kaiser and what I'm 'into' my Tilt for.
Sorry - just started fixing HTC's and felt the need to boast a little....
- M
Congratulations! Though changing the screens is trivially easy on HTC phones... all you need is a torx wrench and some courage...
so the quest continues.....does anyone have any inner knowledge of the tilt that can shed some light ?
A lot of guys upgraded the Cingular variant of the Blue Angel to add the missing back camera. Might want to check there for inspiration.
When you had the tilt open did you see a "socket" where the camera should be? If so then it might be as easy as the BA upgrade was in which case the hardest part will be finding the camera plug-in piece for sale.
If I'm not mistaken, when I changed out the case on my 8525 (Hermes) it had the "drop-in socket" for the front facing camera. I believe I even spent some time trying to track one down to plug in for the same webcam reason.
Just to shed some light on this topic.. all ATT varients are HTC boards and have the connector for the front facing camera. The only hard part is finding one.

yea same thing where could we get the front cam i just ordered the new case and want to get the camera. please pm me if you know where i can get one.
I remember in the hermes forum somebody had installed the forward facing camera on their 8525 and it was just plug and play, no soldering needed (i think theres also a thread at hofo). But obviously you'll also need to flash a WWE rom that supports video calling.
I was gonna do the same and buy the orange case from cnn.cn but the camera is nowhere to be found, i'm gonna shoot an email to cnn.cn other than that i'd suggest searching on ebay fora damaged tytn ii.
Also for video share, its going to be one way from the camera on the back. For example, if i video share call someone :S then they'd see what my rear camera is recording but i can't see anything from their camera.. i guess its just a way to milk us for our money.
Just out of curiosity, would you even neccessarily even need a Kaiser front camera? I'm guessing that any camera from the same spec from any HTC (and probably other brands) should work.
Well to be completely honest with ATT network, the front facing camera would allow a video conference call only in a 3G blanketed area due to the fact that it would be the same lines as a video share that ATT offers. It would require a simultaneous voice and data connection.
I have been thinking about doing this myself. I looked through the service manual and found that it listed the P/N as 54H00225-00M. I am not sure where to find it but possibly from a repair facility or something. I would love to have that front camera, hopefully someone will figure it out.
You wouldn't need the front-facing camera just for video calls. You could use it to take pictures of yourself when out with a group.
does at&t networks in the US even support this feature even if you get it to work?
Hi,
I got my Kaiser Screen broken. The phone still functioning, even touch still working/responding. There're cracks & part of LCD darkened & I worry it might get worse by time/use.
Question:
HTC no longer sell devices in my country. What is the reasonable price + shipping? Any reputable seller that ships to my country & payment method?
Thanks for tips.
Edit:
Got the screen replaced & working perfectly!
Use the 4 screw method, without opening the base, took me 20 mins only
Thanks to Mike Channon, Erwinpiero & many others that fixed themselves & posted on this forum!
Well i'd say eBay is your best bet and I wouldn't pay more than £30 (450,000rupiah) delivered for one. Plenty of people selling them from China, just make sure it has a digitiser, and it's the right model. Oh and pay by something secure like Paypal so you have something to fall back on incase its a bad sale.

I think that's reasonable approach, but I'm looking if any member have dealt with particular dealer that delivers .. something that minimize the risk (at least, it's the right item and got delivered). Yes, we can fall back, but I don't think the process is easy, and especially Pay Pal in ID has no legal vehicle, the site refers to SG. That's the reason I try not going blindly if there're any referrals.
In any case, I'll look around, and update when the screen is fixed ..
Useful links
To anyone looking for info, here're good ones (apart from Mike Channon's site)
http://www.formymobile.co.uk/vodafone1615disassembly.php
(using this method, was what I did, and changed the screen in 20 mins)
And I learnt a lot from our own forum here:

Good luck to everyone.
I haven't replaced a screen on my xda stellar yet but i did have to replace one on my xda 2.
I purchased mine of ebay at a store. e-shop I believe it was called. I would recommend that you dismantle the phone first. There were 2 screens available for my xda 2 and the only way to see which one i needed was to see the connectors on the back of the screen. It may be the same case for the tytn 2.
Also make sure you are purchasing a screen with the digitiser attached. It is possible to replace the touchscreen part but believe me it's not worth the hassle.
Good luck
Thank you very much! Unlike TyTn / Dopod 838Pro, Kaiser screen is luckily pretty standard. The replacement was easy as I got the one complete set (screen & digitizer).
It's now fixed & working well.
That's great news!! I just came on to point you towards the service manual for disassembly (google htc kaiser service manual for anyone else who is interested).
I'm considering replacing the external housing of my stellar, it has seen better days! Having seen the procedure to take the pda apart i'm having second thoughts. Glad you found it easy to replace the screen it looks far worse than what i went through with my xda 2

DEAR
Please guide me to the "the 4 screw method, without opening the base" becuse i have a broken lcd and anew lcd from ebay (25$) and the tools, so everything is ready for action!!!
any instructions, photos, details, pic...etc. would be highly apreciated.
but I need an easy method to do that without dismantling the base and remove the "void" label.
Many thanks in advance

Please read carefully. The two links I provided contain that information.
Just found this while looking for a replacement for my touch screen on my Vogue. I've replaced my digitizer before but I've never replaced the whole case. Has anyone done this? Looks like a way to really make my Vogue new again. I might just buy it and try it out. Its $20 so no huge loss, eh? BTW, I'm in no way affiliated with the ebay seller. Just found it after a brief search.

If you decide to go that route the Elf Service Manual might be of some help.

That's good to know that exists. I've taken my Vogue apart several times before to the replace just the digitizer but never gone past that which I'll need to do in order to replace everything. The idea of a brand new feeling phone sure seems nice. And this time I'm putting on a screen protector.
