I'm happy with Opera 9.5, I woulndt consider giving up Opera...
not worth it yet, it was too buggy for me, so i will remove it or wait till later
installed it,flash is working, there is keyboard..and it all good
BUT it is so SLOW!!
i removed it too
extremely bloated and sluggish. Not worth it. Can't be compare with opera
never worked
dont know how you guys could make this run. On my device it only showed the first welcome page and ... that's it.
tried to enable or disable few settings on options pannel at the right side.
But nothing to do.
Though, regarding the displaying innovations i still think this app will rock when it will reach its final release version.
I am trying out UCWEB at the moment, it is fast and light. If you are looking for an alternative browser i recommend it especially good for just checking this site over gprs well worth a try.

** Update 3 **
There's another beta coming out soon, with lots of exciting new features.:
* The promised 'folder widget' - display the contents of a folder on your device in a virtual screen. I use this as my 'podcast folder' (inside a dock) so I can select one to listen to.
* Directly select a folder/executable on your device whilst in the designer. Obviously you have to have your device plugged in via USB for this to work.
* A QVGA example desk (previous versions only had VGA)
* Lots of bugfixes.
** Update 2 **
Still working hard to get a preview release to you guys. A lot of the current work is in making the PC-based designer as intuitive as possible - an important factor I believe - don't want any complaints about crashing, etc (I hate that the most - you put hours into something, and it explodes).
Anyway - Some of you have expressed concern that you won't be able to get to your today bar icons (the icons down the bottom of the today screen) - while HotDesk is running. The current solution to this is a context menu bound the the desktop click action - that allows you to clip the window to a certain (configurable) height, whilst simultaneously minimizing all other windows - allowing you to see the today bar behind.
This screenshot demonstrates:
Shot
I hope to have a preview release (that won't have all the features that the final release will have, but will still have lots of cool stuff) - to you by the end of next week. Features expected in the preview release:
* Desktop designer, allowing drag'n'drop drawing of all desktop widgets (of course)
* Background widget - set your background, per virtual screen, to an image of any format that PocketPC can read (png, gif, jpg, bmp)
* Picture widget - place a picture at any location on your virtual screens. Handy for non-active element theme customisation.
* Button widget - Define up/down state images, and an action for your buttons (Actions such as 'go to next/previous/specific vscreen', 'start program', 'show/hide dock window' etc)
* Today item Widget - place any today item installed on your system onto any vscreen
* Gauge widget - Text/Graphical gauges linked to system properties (battery,disk/mem free etc). Graphical gauges have customisable background images, and gauge-bar size/image/location.
* Directory widget - place an icon box of any directory on your PocketPC inside a Virtual Screen or Dock - I use this inside a dock, so I can click an icon saying 'My Podcasts' - and up pops a dock sub-window inside my HotDesk with an iconbox with an icon for each of my podcasts. Think of it as a mini-filemanager in a Dock.
More features to come in the final version - but I just want to get this out there for now so you guys can get the creative juices flowing.
More news soon.
** UPDATE **
Got some screenshots of HotDesk running on my JasJar.
A bit of explanation:
Shot 1: The main screen of the demo desktop I'm working on. Here you see 4 application launchers, 2 text gauges (time/date), and a graphical gauge (battery). The Gauge designer can be seen in the designer screenshot at the bottom of this post.
Shot 2: A 'dock' demo. Clicking the 'folder' icon triggers a 'visibility toggle' action on the dock window. The dock window is a Virtual Screen like any other - it just happens to be nested inside another Vscreen.
Shot 3: A demonstration of nesting Today Plugins inside HotDesk. This is more difficult to code than it sounds: essentially you have to reimplement all the message calls/events that the Today screen does. Surprisingly, this was one of the hardest things to code in HotDesk so far. As you can see, I haven't done background transparency for Today plugins yet, but that is coming soon.
Shot 1
Hi All,
I'm creating a new desktop design tool for WM devices. Its aim is to be both friendly to designers, and also to be powerful enough that it's a useful replacement for the today screen et al.
I won't beat around the bush: I *hate* the today screen. I won't launch into a religious argument about that here - I'm just here to show you the work I've been doing.
Announcing: HotDesk.
Hotdesk contains two components: A program that runs on your WM device, that loads '.desk' files - files which contain all the art, logic etc - of your custom designed desktop. The other component is hotdesk designer - an early screenshot of which I've attached to this post.
The designer will be familiar to anyone that has used any kind of vector graphics tool. You simply drag/drop/move - your components on the 'virtual screens' of your desktop.
HotDesk is based around the concept of 'vscreens' - a desktop contains one or more VScreens - that are tied to an orientation (landscape or portrait). Based on the current orientation of your device, the desktops you design for that orientation are displayed - and the user moves between them using buttons that are tied to the 'change vscreen' action.
I'm sure most of you have seen offerings such as 'Wisbar Advance Desktop', and others. Don't get me wrong - Chris does a great job with Wisbar/Desktop - but HotDesk aims to go far beyond products such as these - by creating a rich set of embeddable components that can be customised to your needs. On my PPC, I often find myself jumping between a thousand separate tiny little applications that perform a certain task, or display a certain device statistic - HotDesk aims to allow you to tie almost any action to a button - or connect any device statistic to a custom graphical gauge (as can be seen in the screenshot)
Current features:
Custom button launchers. Definable graphics for up/down states
Completely customisable gauges (gauge image, cursor image, data source)
Multiple virtual screens, and programmable screen change logic
Different screens for portait/landscape views
File list control - e.g. display files in a folder for easy selection (I use this as a popup from my 'podcast folder')
Embed today plugins - In my opinion, today plugins are generally memory hogs - but if you must, you must
Tab widget - have a tabbed dialog within a vscreen
This application is not yet complete, but I must admit I'm excited by what it does so far. I'll be releasing a beta soon - so watch this space. If you have any feature suggestions (e.g. something you've been aching for, not found in other desktop-type apps) - now is the time to speak up.
Oh yeah, here's the screenshot (sorry for the size):
Designer Screenshot
Alex.
You app sounds like it will take customizing the today screen to a new level!
Looks very promising. Will I have the ability to turn my today screen into a dial pad?
kewl!
shud support QVGA / VGA & Square Screens..that's a plus..!
and abillity to change phone dial skin if possible..
Looks COOL!
If I read that right, it'll allow you to have more than one Today screen? Like a virtual desktop?
If so, is there a way to make the inactive one truely inactive so it doesn't use much RAM? That's probably asking waaaay too much, but would be awfully cool!
Either way, I'll be (not so) patiently watching....

Already done this - there are two 'memory modes' - light and heavy. Light mode dynamically loads each screen (including today plugins). If you don't go to the screen with the plugin, it doesn't load it.
Of course, the trade off is screen load time.
Heavy mode loads all screens at once - heavier on RAM, but faster.

As for the QVGA/VGA - each vscreen has a preconfigured size - the device-side application chooses the correct default vscreen based on the res/orientation. You specify the default starting vscreens in the designer.
so... when is the beta release??
Thanks
Greetings,
Hope to see your product soon,
and yes do make it compatible with omap 850 processor coz its little slower than
others.
And also if you could add minimizing windows like we have in desktop it would be great.
Hope you'll giv it for free cuz i dont have any credit card or any other card to pay. I'll love to have your application.

Testing
I would like to be part of the beta testing when avalible. GreggSymington(@)Sbcglobal.net . Looks great so far.
I would also love the opportunity to be in your beta group.
Would it be possible to lock one or more of your Today screens separately?
Also, will there be a toggle for accessing the main (or user defined) Today screen, similar to VJTodayButton?
Both of these functions would be really convenient.
Cool
Greetings,
Yes i will be participating in beta ver.
Is there a testing version yet?
Hi LordChaos
Been playing around with theme development and would love the opportunity to beta test your product

Any news?
WoW, nice way of creating virtual desktops. It reminds me to the Wisbar Advanced Desktop plugin for Wisbar Advance 2 but even better since you are also developing a proper tool for PC!!!!!
Congratulations!!!

Great Work

Your Web Everywhere: Opera Mini 4 hits the streets
http://www.opera.com/pressreleases/en/2007/11/07/
After three betas we're proud to release the shiny new Opera Mini 4 to the world.
We've done a lot with this new Opera Mini. For example, we rewrote the entire code for Opera Mini 4 and added lots of improvements and new features to make the browser even better.
Opera Mini 4 is based on the same rendering engine as the Opera 9.5 desktop browser. The browser still has a very small install size, less than 100k, even though we've added all these cool new features.
With all the time and work that we've put in on our end, we wouldn't be able to bring you the world's best mobile browser without your help and support. We owe a great amount of appreciation to all those of you who helped with our beta testing, bug reporting, and providing feedback in the Opera Mini forums and on your blogs. Thanks.
So what have we done with Opera Mini 4?
Opera Link
We've added support for Opera Link in Opera Mini 4. With Opera Link, you're able to instantly synchronize and share your bookmarks and Speed Dial with the Opera browser for your computer.
Overview mode
Opera Mini 4 includes a new rendering architecture that allows you to view webpages just like you would on your computer. When you first load a webpage, Opera Mini will show you an overview snapshot of the page; using the new mouse cursor you can instantly zoom in to the selected region of the page.
Size of text fits width of screen
Opera Mini 4 dynamically changes the size of the text on webpages to fit the width of your phone's screen, meaning you won't have to scroll horizontally.
Context menu
A context menu is displayed when pressing the number 1 key. From the context menu you could change the viewing modes to 'Mobile view', reload the page, and show webpage information. When the mouse cursor is focused on a link, the Context menu will show you the link information (i.e. where the link points to, etc.).
Mouse cursor
With the mouse cursor you could scroll to any direction on the page and more easily click on links.
Scrolling shortcuts
Pressing these number key shortcuts will help you quickly navigate around the page.
2 - Page up
8 - Page down
4 - Go to the left one column
6 - Go to the right one column
5 - Zoom in and out
Create search
With this new feature, you could add any search engine of your choice to the Opera Mini start page. To add a new search engine, click on the search field, press the menu button and click on the 'Create search' option.
View pages in Landscape mode
By pressing the * and # shortcut keys, you could switch the page view to landscape mode.
New standards support
Support for HTML tables, CSS handheld stylesheets, and more advanced support for CSS have been added to Opera Mini.
Bi-directional support
With this new release we've also added support for bi-directional text, adding support for languages such as Hebrew.
Some other notable changes
Added support for small anti-aliased bitmap fonts
Simplified setup process
Improved image quality
Improved fit to width mode rendering
Simplified settings page
Added native blackberry menu
Dialogs are now displayed with round corners and alpha channel overlay windows
New and improved server side cookie handling

As usual, get it from www.operamini.com
hey.. the beta 3 didnt last that long huh? so it's finally official! cool! :
Yeah, and don't forget to check out my related review here at the Wiki - http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...t - even better than before, an ABSOLUTE MUST
GRRRRRRRRRRRRR !!!
Thank you
Wow!
This is easily the best ever software for the pocket pc. What an amazing browser!
I wish opera made operating systems as well.
Damn i wish i could use it but I can't since port 80 is block on t-mobile t-zones plan. Is there any way to make mini's port be something else and make it work just like Opera Mobile works on t-zones plan
Opera Mini is the best and fastet Mobile Browser on the world (if you are using it with JBed).
Great piece of software.
Also check out my review of the final Opera Mini 4 at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=344095

all shortcuts above opera mini4 has built in are very convenient. unfortunately they aren't put in the menu and thus are almost inaccessible for users using a handheld without qwerty...
hopefully someone might be kind enough to help^^"
hi,
the new version is out, look here.
Original PoinUI files attached on this post.
Code:
New Features
* Smartphone support
* PDA's (without phone) support
* Voice mail count is now displayed under the missed call count for those with phone networks supporting this feature.
* Lock screen will fade back to Home screen to allow you to see all of the status information even when device is locked.
* Translation support - see the forums for more information.
* New customise option: can choose digital or analog clock.
* New customise option: Lock Device, Show Home, or Show Home Screen when device is switched on.
* New customise option: automatically switch bluetooth on only during phone calls and switch off at the end of the call (not supported on all devices). The idea behind this is that if you only use bluetooth during phonecalls for headset etc and don't need it on all the time, then this option could be useful to you. It will turn bluetooth on as soon as an incoming/outgoing call is detected, and turn it off when you hang up.
* New customise option: can choose to use Home's comm manager or system default if supported.
* New customise option: can choose to not show screenshots in Currently Running screen (if your device has issues showing the screenshots).
* New customise option: can choose to Show Home, Show Call Summary Screen, or Do Nothing when call is finished.
* New customise option: can choose to use Home's task bar or standard system task bar.
* The list of applications now merges the list of favorites so you can view the entire list together
* Call summary screen added to display who was called and how long call lasted for at end of call.
* Lock screen can now be used on smartphones - you press up then down on dpad.
* You now have an additional option to "Lock Device" on power on.
* Battery saving - now only uses marginally more battery power than normal - smartphone users should notice a big difference (of course this is dependent on how excessive you are with using it).
Changes
* Taskbar in all other standard apps is no longer changed except for the Start button area which still takes you to Home's Task Menu.
* Windows Media icon has been replaced with Favorites.
* Appointments summary shows only the next 7 days of appointments.
* Tasks summary no longer shows completed tasks.
* Force close now returns focus back to Home.
* Ringer volume and profile button on sound screen for non-phone devices are no longer displayed.
* Appointments now display all day events in bold and should not display events that have been completed for the day.
* "Today" and "Tomorrow" in appointments also now show the date after them
* Smartphones no longer have a Windows Mobile section as it's not relevant.
* Shortcut no longer includes "." at start which was causing issues for button mapping.
* Soft key on Today screen no longer overridden. (NOTE: you will need to reset it back to what it was manually if you have a previous version installed).
Bug Fixes
* Many bugs fixed!
* Memory leak issues fixed.
* Lock screen locks keys as well, and when orientation changed while locked the keys remain locked.
* Recurring appointments now displayed.
* Hardware buttons now working.
* Volume controls now working.
* Volume controls support stereo.
* Control panel applets have had a number of bug fixes. They still are only categorised correctly for English ROMS unless you use a translated terms file as described in the forums.
* Battery shouldn't show 255% any more but some devices for some reason do not report the correct % when asked and can take a while before they report it successfully.
* The speed that tasks load has been improved and should no longer cause freezes.
* Currently Running screen causing device to freeze has been fixed on most devices, but still is problematic with some devices in which case you need to switch off the screenshots option.
* Closing home sometimes caused it to freeze needing soft reset issue has been fixed.
Known Issues
* See the forums for more details.

Add links to the \Windows\Start folder.
Ok am I missing something or is there still no way to reverse the slide up and down and side to side? Its backwards from every other finger sliding program I have used and it just makes it feel wrong.
Man I can't believe they still haven't made this an option.
Can I use this one for VGA? because I ever tried using the previous version but can not display well
just edit your Menu under Settings
i have folders in the \windows\start menu folders such as '\Office 2007' and '\Accessories'
how can i access them?? i hope favorites can also support folders in the future version.. i kind of like the way PoinUI is right now (optional top bar, optional homescreen).. because i only want PointUI to be an Application Launcher of some sort and not a complete overall UI..
also, can the scroll function be reversed? i mean an option to do so? because i use FtouchFLO and TouchFLO for general OS and application navigation and it's scroll/finger swipe function is when you swipe up, list scrolls down.. and a swipe down does the opposite direction (list goes up)
it is a bit disorienting to have a different/reversed swipe/finger scroll direction in PointUI other that what the whole OS has..
besides those requests.. i'm enjoying the launcher 100%
dont know what happened....phone froze during a phone call...uninstalling
screnshoot please
This is pretty good. Have decided to give it a go now that you aren't stuck with that hideous blue!
Just one question - how do you go straight into Contacts to make a phone call. I have been using pocketcm which is great, but now have to go looking for it as an application, instead of just hitting the soft button.
Or am I missing something?
still no way of changing which email account to use from the main page i see (defaults to outlook/exchange) even though i've not got that set up at the moment and have done with the windows live mail
that and the backward touch scrolling is making it hard to use this program which does look really good.
it just needs its own email/sms reader and contacts just like its got with the recent calls list.

This app is AWESOME!!!
Good job!
Cheers!
P.S. When you search for a name would be great if the contact list scrolls faster to that position instead of showing only the contact without moving the list.
In a visual app like this I think it´s better with movement. What do you think?
Awesome. Simply awesome. Much better than the boring stock contacts app.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Very nice. Would like to be able to click on a contact and message as well.
Also, this is minor but if it was possible to make the default contact icon (no pic) the little green android instead of the current generic man, I think that would be a nice touch. Otherwise great job and look forward to seeing more.

on Sprint Epic 4G disabling 3d rotation does not disable either. would be nice to be able to push the search button on the phone as well, instead of having to press menu > search, dont know if its supposed to or not, but if it is it doesnt work on epic. Also would be nice to be able to have an image background, i.e stars or something instead of just colors. I would also like a txt option and agree with the person that said something about doing a speedy animation to the contact instead of just making it pop up. ill pm you with a diff icon for the app if i can think of one
its possible to scroll past (way past) the top and bottom of the list... makes sense to stop it or have some sort of rubber effect at the ends of the list.. also maybe some sort of animation similar to the touchwiz animation for the swipe commands. Also, as someone posted above I cannot turn off rotation either.
Other than that this is a cool app. maybe look to adw as for what kind of settings to be able to change animation wise (speed/elasticity).
Nice start! A couple of Force Closes, but very speedy for me.

Very nice. Would like to be able to click on a contact and message as well.
Also, this is minor but if it was possible to make the default contact icon (no pic) the little green android instead of the current generic man, I think that would be a nice touch. Otherwise great job and look forward to seeing more.

Love this app but turning off the 3D Rotation (rotating of boxes during scrolling) does not work on my Droid X.
