That only works on the full GMail web client. Use an AIM client from the Market.

im well aware of the aim clients in the market, but the gtalk app looks really nice. but meebo just updated so im kinda happy for now

Google Talk exiting for MSN & Yahoo accounts

I'm running CyanogenMod-4.1.11.1 a G1 on T-mobile UK, and have google talk setup fine.
I've just added my Yahoo and MSN contacts
http://www.techlifeweb.com/2006/12/how-to-use-google-talk-and-gmail-with.html (needed to use an different gateway) and everything works fine via gtalk in a web browser and pidgin, but when I try to send a message to an MSN account using google talk on the G1 it just dies when the name is selected from the friends list.
Just tried reverting to 4.0.4 and the behaviour is the same.
Is anyone using the built in gtalk app to send to MSN/Yahoo accounts (or even seeing the same issue)?
Thanks

Instantly like in using exchange? Then a Rom there has MS exchange would most probably help
so it cant be done without changing roms basically
You can add your hotmail and yahoo accounts to your gmail, then it will push them automatically as they arrive. I have this setup and it works fine...

I too have this and it works great. Here is how to do it.
ttp://blogs.howtogeek.com/mysticgeek/2009/03/13/how-to-send-and-receive-hotmail-from-your-gmail-account/
You can try Seven; it's still in beta.
It offers almost real time email syncing(read/unread, folders) for any number of email addresses including yahoo, hotmail.
The only problem is that the application will keep you phone 100% awake
I hope they'll fix that soon...

[Q] Best Instant messanger app ?

Just found that IM is actually quite useful....anyone recommend me the best app for the job ??
(need to cover both Gtalk and MSN, yahoo etc)
which is the best ?
I actually like Trillian. Sure, it's $5 (used to be a free Beta), but it's got a boatload of features, is quick, clean, and integrates perfectly with Trillian for Windows. I can be using it in bed/on the sofa, then go to my PC and the conversation I've just been having is there ready to pick up and carry on, and vice-versa.
Use EBuddy, works great and it's free.
Xda app
Thanks chaps

I use this one too, but I really dislike the fact, that it changes my quick message, and adds "on my mobile with ebuddy messenger"...
Anyone knows how to remove this?

tried Trillian
Liked the look of it but had issues with it not letting me log into Yahoo, i could set my account ok but it would only connect for a micro second then diconnect, msn and google worked well tho.
shame
using Meebo at the moment as an alternative.
Also didnt like Nimbuzz much either

If you use Facebook chat it posts "on my mobile with ebuddy messenger" as your Facebook status without your permission. That's the one annoying reason why I stopped using it and switched to nimbuzz!

It depends on what you're after I guess in a client. I have Meebo IM, MSN talk and eBuddy.
Meebo IM and eBuddy have more client support. But as an MSN client alone, MSN talk is very hard to beat in my opinion.
Try IM+ and IMO.
After I tried all, they have proven to be most reliable and stable.
And have support for all IM services.
Peace
Mercury MSN Messenger is the BEST for MSN.
- MSN Features:
File transfer
Voice clips
Group chat
Invisible signin
Multiple MSN accounts
Logging to sdcard
Offline messaging
Show current song (MSN Now playing)
Improved Launcher (Widget)
Fling (or swipe) between contact lists and conversations
Events notification (message received, contact signed in)
Notifications: status bar, vibrate, audio, led
Chat with your MSN and Yahoo contacts
- Other Features:
Multiple languages
Start on phone boot
Very stable and regular updates
I'm using Ebuddy because it integrates all Chat Clients (FB, MSN, Yahoo, etc.), got a good UI. Had no problem yet regarding to facebook posts like "online with ebuddy", did never posted it. Only drawback I would say is that you cannot send files (corrent me if I am wrong), for instance you cannot take a picture while you are in the chat window and send it. Nimbuzz could do it (used it before), but its quite big (5mb).

Thanks for your recommendation. I think eBuddy messenger is best choice, who want to use MSN messenger on HTC Desire.
MSNTALK is the best! allows grp convos! Theres also trillian
Mercury MSN is THE BEST EVER!!, send images/sounds, changes your nick/status/image, offline chat... [and it's FREE!! (or donate)]
In background practically have no CPU consumption
Is Mercury MSN is available on the Android Market? Can you share the link. After concluding all the instant messaging application for my Android phone, i think eBuddy messenger is the best option for me. Because it is the best solution for multiple accounts e.g MSN, Yahoo, GTalk, Facebook, AIM and MySpace. You just need one messenger to log-in to all of the above accounts.
Read more & install eBuddy Messenger.
Did you search in the market?
https://market.android.com/details?id=im.mercury.android&feature=search_result
ebuddy messenger... the only one with push that works (trillian doesnt work.. at least for me)

For my the best app msn is Epinephrine (before MSN TALK)
Trillian is the right choice.
Beejive IM. The best IMO.

You've gotta go to the battery saving mode for C2DM push to work
Trillian and Beejive both have some annoying little bugs, but they are by far the best of anything I have tried. Beejive is a little on the costly side, but I used it back before my first android phone when I was a bit of an iSheep and it was very solid. They seem to actively develop it, though I haven't seen an update for a while now, which is disappointing when you drop that sort of coin on a mobile app.
I tend to swap between the two based on whatever mood I am in on the day, but I hope beejive will one day be as smooth as it is over in iphoneland.

[Q] Text from your nook? (DesktopSMS)

Hey guys!
Just wondering if anyone has played around with DeskSMS....
I was interested in learning more about texting from your nook. I know theres other programs out there that are like this but Desktop, which i think is out of beta now seems simple. Just want to know how it works and to set it up. Its kinda confusing to me...ive been trying to use it through google talk.
Dont know if anyone has used this app or could help me set it up??
Thanks! Bobby
I use google voice for all of my texting. Works great.
I've been using it the past few days. To do it:
1) Install DeskSMS on your phone
2) install a chat client with google talk support on the nook, i'm currently using Trillian and have tried almost all of them
***Be sure you use the same google account in both applications with you set them up.***
The DeskSMS app is pretty straight forward but if you need it detailed, i can try.
If you use GO SMS or Handscent, make sure you follow the notes in the app description for DeskSMS.

Thanks for letting me know about trillian...i downloaded it from amazon apps free of the day a while ago but never used it....so glad i downloaded it heheh. That works great. I set it up using my gmail account thats linked to DeskSKS.
Question though....when your in DeskSKS....does gmail account or google talk need to be checked box? Wasnt sure if they needed to be since im not using either, just trillian. I was using google talk, but it doesnt work all the time and is pretty confusing. Trillian seems like the best.
Also your first thanks is on the way....happy to give it to ya!

happy to help!
From my understanding of DeskSMS, checking off Gmail or GTalk in the app is what triggers the texts to be forwarded to the Nook. I have Google Talk checked off so that when my text messages come in, they forward to my Google Talk connection, wherever I'm signed into that at (...which is Trillian for my Nook, or the actual Google Talk app on the PC when I'm at work - easier to text through a computer than a phone when I'm supposed to be programming ;] ).
I imagine the same would be true for Gmail, only it'd go to your email inbox instead and you could use Gmail to do your texting.
Or you can do both of those things at the same time by having both checked off.
Good luck, Cubs fan!
