I searched for this but apparently my google fu is not strong enough to dig out an answer if one exists.
I have an xv6800 (originally verizon) that the USB port stopped working on for activesync or headphones. I thought the pot was shot and was flashing it to alltel using the SD card method when I realized that the USB port works fine in bootloader mode. In fact, I loaded a new Alltel rom over USB. The USB port still did not work in windows with the new rom.
Any ideas? The headphones I was trying to use are the ones that came with my touch pro. I have also tried the audio out on the Seido dock for the 6800 and it no workee either. It used to.
Any ideas? It is not the end of the world if it does not work (this is not an active phone...I was going to use it as an Ebook reader/media player) but this really is bugging the crap out of me.

Hey all, I just made the leap yesterday from my old trusty Dash to a G1. Only complaint I've had so far is I can't seem to get USB Mass Storage to work at my home pc. I suspect the issue has to do with a problem I've had with my USB circuits on my motherboard, basically USB 2.0 has to be disabled or I start having issues booting into Windows (all goes back to a power outage a year or so ago). The weird thing is it works fine via the Dash and WM5torage, works fine using my card reader, it's just when the G1 is hooked up directly it won't read the USB.
I've got it hooked up here at work and it does see it. The only other difference is the work pcs are still on XP SP2 while my home pc is on SP3. Just wondering if anyone has heard of any other issues like this? I've done a lot of google searching and nothing seems to quite be the same issue.
Thanks!
when you connect your G1 via USB, there will be an icon in the notification bar, swipe that down and tap "mount sd card".
this allows the USB to be used for mass storage.
i hope this helps.
nope, like I said, it works fine here at work, but at home it gives an error. First it says it doesn't recognize the device 'android' then it gives an error code 10, usb device failed to start (I will have to try it again when I get home this evening to make sure I have the number and wording right).
I'm quite comfortable in making sure I hit the notification bar and selecting mount.
sorry...i thought since you just jumped from your dash (i love my G1, but still miss my dash sometimes) that you may not have known about the mount/unmount part. i have 4 friends with the G1 and rather than read the instructions or try things themselves, they all turn to me to teach them how to do the most basic tasks. one of my buddies got his G1 in november and just asked me last week why he can't transfer pics from his PC to his G1...i had to walk him through connecting via usb and mounting his sd card...like i said, he's had the freaking phone for 6 months!!
good luck.
so yeah, apparently this is a *known* issue. For some reason the current firmware doesn't like USB2.0. Supposedly fixed in 1.5 so we'll see. For now I just set up andftp and filezilla on my pc so I don't have to bother with digging out my microsd reader all the time hehe
ya, i run into a similar issue. just rooted my phone today, it was tough, n i think i probably messed up too many times on the apps to SD part, that my sd card might have been damaged. it works, but when i link usb to computer, it won't recognize it. i have to use a card reader, very annoying. hope some1 could help! thanks!
Hi everyone,
Since I'm new with this phone (just bought it few days ago) I really need your assistance.
My problem is probably with the usb drivers (Mass storage device). I'm running on Vista Ultimate SP2. When I connect the phone, and go to the notifications, there are two (as supposed to be). HTC Sync and the one with the USB connection. Well the one with the USB connection appears and disappears all the time.
As a result I can't sync since there is a problem with the USB driver. When I disable the Mass storage device (this is the one responsible for that), I can sync. The problem is I can't use my phone as a storage card in order to copy files. In advance I'm saying that I tried to mount the sd card...nothing.
I've tried the phone on other pcs, XP and vista... it workds everywhere fine. The notification with the USB connection is not disappearing.
Tried everything, rolling back the driver, updating etc. nothing!!
PLEASE HELP ME!!
Thanks in advance
Also remember than not all USB cables are the same.
I'm not using the original one as I lost it with the original box.
But while the Nokia DKE-2 works great for all functions, my camera and my USB HD mini-USB cable only support few features.
All of them can charge the Hero, though.
The one I'm using is the original one! Moreover, the phone connects properly with other pcs!

So the problem is Vista.
I personally used XP with only some minor problems due to the cable.

It should not be Vista... I've tried it on another pc with Vista.... no problem!!
Oops, ignore this.
Have you tried different USB port on the sick Vista PC?
Have you installed Andrid specific USB drivers? If so, uninstall and reinstall.
When you plug the cable do you get on the phone the notification for USB connection?
Adding a question to the topic:
I own a Galaxy right now and consider switching to the Hero, one thing that does not work with the Galaxy is the USB connection to my car for audio playback. The USB interface of my car can't handle multiple drives as offered by the Galaxy; e.g. with a HTC snap everything is fine.
So the question is: Does the Hero offer one drive only when connected in the USB mode?
Thanks for your help!
Hey All, I came across an Idea for the TP2, could be used for any for the most part. But As I was coming here I hooked my phone to the usb cable to sync, and then it dawned on me, unless there is one out there already.
Is it possible or could it be done to have the usb cable also act as a sound relay? What I mean is, we all hookup our tp2 to the computer to sync, but I also use MyMobiler to see the screen, so I was wondering since some of us used wired headsets, could an app be created to send the sound signals through the USB cable to the computer, and have the computer work as a handsfree speakerphone? You could use the phone mic since it would be close enough to you.
Just a thought
Well, there's this... http://www.bluesoleil.com/products/Default.aspx?TID=14
Can't remember whether it was Panasonic or Motorola who had this PC sync program which also allowed phone calls though the computer. Loved it! It isn't a new idea, but it is certainly a good one.

Only downfall is you have to have a mic on your computer, I figured you'd just use the phone mic itself. But damn someone beat me to the idea
i would like to see the usb send an audio signal out from the phone to lets say the cd player to hear music playing from the phone...
After reading it further, that works off bluetooth, not a usb cable, so the hunt is on still
Hey all I just need some help with a hardware malfunction. So, I searched the forums but could not find anything about USB failure on the G1s. I can charge my battery through the USB connected to the computer/wall charger, but no USB connections notification occurs. Also, I tried going through the recovery and enabling USB-MS with no such luck. Has anyone else ran into this problem, or found any solutions?
Have you tried to mount through USB using a different machine? I've got one machine at my house that is hit and miss with my G1, but my laptop connects perfectly every time. The machine that is flakey will work fine with some devices, won't work at all with others and then with my G1 works about half the time.
Yeah, I can connect my other G1 and my MT3G to both my laptop and computer on all of the USB ports, but this G1 isn't recognized in anyway. I found that if I hold the casing near the USB port on my G1 I get some sort of recognition. Could it be a hardware thing? The casing is cracked, but I didn't have any problems before when I bought it off Craig's List. It worked fine up until a few days ago when it randomly quit.
Actually, I am positive that it is a hardware problem because if I press hard enough on the bottom of the phone. I will look for the tool to open the back a little later to post my findings
i have an old HTC magic ( 32a ) with a custom rom on it. Because i got my self an iphone 3gs i want to sell my magic now.
but before i want to put the original rom from HTC on it again.
my little problem is that i can find the usb cabel that came with the phone.
but i have an usb cabel i used for an usb hub that fits the mini usb in the phone.
Should i not be able to use this cabel to connect and sync my magic ( when i connect it to the pc, it finds the phone but only to be used as a storage device ) in HTC sync it´s not registered
Hope you can help me. and sorry if i put this in the wrong forum
any mini usb cable will work. i lost my cable that came with my phone months ago, been using a standard mini usb fine. although i dont use HTC sync, im fairly sure any mini usb will work, do you have another you can try?
i got an mini usb i use for to charge my headset for my ps3 could try that.
but dont understand why i can´t get htc sync to see my phone.
I have the newest htc sync installed so it should run fine on windows 7 x64 with out doing anything special or iam i wrong ?
hmm it should be fine.. but again ive never used htc sync... maybe look at there FAQ and see if there is no issues with win7 and sync.
talk to there customer support?? i really cant see it being the cable..
EDIT: ahh.. just read you are running a custom rom
i heard that people who run cyanogenmod cannot use htc sync, i believe it relies heavily on the htc framework which is pulled out of most custom roms.
sense roms appear to work fine however
my guess is thats your issue...
just gonna try a couple of things first and doing some research before i contact thier support
Will try the other cabel tommorow.
Standard USB cables have always worked in the HTC port. The exta side has pins for some kind of add-on (probably headphones or video) that current phones I don't even think use.
I've used the cable for charging my PS3 controller several times for my phone. Did you install HTC Sync after you plugged the phone into your computer the first time? If so you probably need to uninstall the drivers and plug the phone back in to let them reinstall with the HTC Sync provided driver.
Sent using Tapatalk.
from what you guys say it should work then.
I just have to kick my pc then and see if that works
well since your running a custom rom it will be hit or miss
i know on CM6 htc sync does NOT work as it requires the HTC framework which is stripped from the rom
your best bet would be using a rom built off of a legit carrier rom, like one of the rogers rooted roms, or a sense rom as they will have the HTC framework in the rom
so it may work, it may not.... depending on what rom you are on.... so its not your cable...
atm iam running CM 4.2.14.1 ( it says so in about phone ) i know it´s an old rom.
