fresh compact what would you do?

Due to recent problems my mda compact on t-mobile(most say best customer service i have encountered)well now its being replaced.
so what would you do if you had a fresh compact,anythign you do rom,etc etc?

Good thing you got a new one First thing I would do is BIG Storage & ditch some of the ext-rom cabs. Then install cabinstl, resco explorer, sprite backup, mortplayer, tcpmp, my reg hacks, some games, mp3's, spb plus & weather, some VIJ stuff, aebutton plus & vgs mail.

Pls don't make me reveal too much secrets ;-)
VGSMail is an imap e-mail client, so I receive my e-mail immediately on my magician when it arrives on the mailserver.
VJstuff well like Carty says: test some & keep some. I use them for one handed op. So VJOkButt for really closing app & VJKeyPress to simulate the StartMenu button, both assigned to a hardware button by AEButtonPlus.
Registry hacks? Well I patched it to have Camera, Album, Intellipad, MidletManager & many dll's in \Storage\Windows instead of \Windows which saves me well > 4MB RAM. & I use some of these patches, which I collected since June 2005 on the board I didn't invented them.
I ran across some extra registry tweaks at Aximsite for the X51v which seems to have improved performance on my BA. The extra reg settings are
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\CacheSize=4096
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\EnableCache=0x1(1)

The first two registry entries are already included in the wm5 fixes cab by mamaich but with a diferent value for the cache. I have been using the 4096 cache value myself already. I also tried the extra settings in bold and found it gave another boost to the PPC speed. If confirmed maybe it can be added to the wm5 cab file.
Edit: Can anyone try setting this reg key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ MSFlash\FATFS\DataCacheSize=2048 instead of 4096 as above. For me it seems to work slightly better.
I also tried changing these two entries for PIE, unfortunately PIE runs so slow i cant tell if it has any positive effect

Disabling “Message Sent” notification bubble
For those who hates the "Message Sent" notification after sending an SMS, this is the steps to remove the bubble notification...this is the STEP by STEP method to do it in case some of you guys dont get it right...
1. First, you will need to download a Registry Editor to help you do it...

Cingular 8125 - Slow, Slow, Slow

Switched from a SX66, on my second 8125. Both have been incredibly slow loading programs, switching between screens etc. 20 - 60 second waits. Phone is great when works. Must soft reset multiple times a day.
I use 10,000+ contacts and XpressMail, small amount of tasks and calendar, that is it. No third party programs.
Any ideas on how to speed this thing up?

Cingular's stock ROM is way slow, locks ups and needs frequent reboots. All of the ROM upgrades here have been better than what came on the phone. Right now summiter's efforts seem to be most beneficial to us Cingular owners. And you're in for a treat 'cause he figured out how to go back to the original if needed...

Maybe... I just tested the link and it's OK. Change over to the Wizard upgrading etc forum and look for Cingular 8125 users: 2 custom RUU upgraders available .
Good luck!

Quick solution is to hard reset and then soft reset before Ext rom loads. You have to then manually load XpressMail, but speed is now much better.
I am having some bluetooth disconnect issues, still need to figure that out. Was working fine with cingular ext rom.
Any ideas?

xpressmail blows. too bad you need to use it. as for speed-tweaks, here's a list of reg-edits that includes a few that keep my c8125 moving at a decent pace while i wait for a cingular 2.xx rom update.

adding icons to HTChomePlug

I technically know how to add icons to the htchomeplug i just don't know how to change the icon
hklm\software\htc\htchomplug\*add new key*
my problem is the iconindex number, which seems to control the icon. when i change it to a different number the icon disappears but if you click over the area where the icon was the program will still launch.

You can use RViewer (google it, don't remember where I found it), or just go with 0.
This is mentioned in the "original post" on the HTChomeplug modifications.

HTC HOMEPLUG
First is access using the registry editor to this entry:
/HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/HTC/HTCHomeplug
There is the configuration of the plugin. There we will find two entries pointing to the first two icons (Battery and Rotation) that seems to be configured in a different way that the rest of the icons. Those are the two DWORD entries:
PowerIconSlot with value of 0 (this means the first position in the plugin)
RotateIconSlot with value of 1 (this means the second position)
The rest of the positions in the HTCHomeplug appears like KEY entries with names from 2 to 5 meaning positions 3 to 6 in the plugin bar.
Inside each key (2 to 5) we find 3 values (or entries):
1- iconindex DWORD type of Decimal which contains 103 in the case of entry KEY 2
** I used a program called RViewer (for PPC) develop by Vicott Wong to find the iconindex**
2- LaunchApPath STRING contains the path to the executable file associated to the icon
3- ResPath STRING contais the path to the resource file which contais the icon image poited by iconindex entry. This path points to a DLL or EXE file containing the icon image.
So... since we want to add a icon/application we need to create the entry KEY 6 and we must create both STRING entries and DWORD one inside the KEY 6.
To add Tomtom Navigator in the HTCHomeplug (as an example) I added:
iconindex = 101
LaunchApPath = \Program files\Navigator\Tomtom Navigator.exe
ResPath = \Program files\Navigator\Tomtom Navigator.exe
So I'm using the icon storaged in the Tomtom Navigator executable file itself and my Tomtom is in the path I show in the entry. Off course this could not match your installation.

when using programlauncher you must windows's file explorer when copying shortcuts or it doesn't work. hope this helps

I thought creating a thread that shows the various registry hacks might be helpful/useful/contructive/destructive.
I am still pretty new to all of this and would love to know what others have discovered to get 'more' from our PPCs.

You can download and install PHM Registry Editor on your phone to modify the registry.

The 3.16 rom has added an voicemail icon to '1' key which also caused my skin to look messed up. You can disable it:

18-Change ringtone/vibrate/LED flash characteristics
If you would like more control over how your device rings/vibrates/flashes its LEDs on events, you can can change the Script values of these events. For example, for an incoming call performing 'activate device, play ringtone, wait 3 seconds, repeat':
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0\Script = "apw3r" (REG_SZ string, no quotes)
For performing 'active device, set volume to 33%, play ringtone, set volume to 67%, play ringtone, set volume to 100%, play ringtone (no repeat)':
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0\Script = "ac33pc67pc100p" (REG_SZ string, no quotes)
The following are the full codes available to you. Please note that all the codes are executed simultaneously except after a ringtone play / wait code. E.g. 'v1p' will vibrate and play at the same time, while vibrating for 1 second. But 'pv1' will play the ringtone through all the way first, then start vibrating for 1 second.
a = activate device
cN = set volume to N in percentage max volume
fN = flash notification LED for N seconds
p = play ringtone. Note that this will play the ringtone all the way through before continuing with the next code.
r = repeat. Note that this should be the last code in your Script string, if used at all.
vN = vibrate for N seconds
wN = wait for N seconds. Note that the device will wait this long before continuing with the next code.
NOTE: I tried this on my 6800 and changed the v0 to v1 and now it doesn't have just one long vibrate. v0 sets it to vibrate always.

19-FIX THE SLOW RINGER
To do this, you will need your MSL, which only Sprint (or your provider) can provide you. Open up the phone app and dial ##778# (PST). You will be asked to enter your MSL. Enter it, and you will be brought into the provisioning of your phone. From the top left, select Modem Settings. On this page, your Slot Cycle Index (SCI) is how often your phone polls the tower for incoming calls, etc. This value is 1.28 seconds multiplied by 2^value (i.e 0=1.28 secs, 1=2.56secs) with 0 fastest, 7 slowest. The default is 2, but lowering it to 1 hasn't noticeably affected my battery life, and roughly 2.5 second (SCI 1) response time is far more reasonable than roughly 5 seconds (SCI 2)

For the paths above to work, you need to have the Inbox folder and Attachments subfolder created already. You must reboot for them to take effect.

1) Open your registry editor (either PHM Registry Editor or Resco Explorer 2003).

4) Create 2nd String Value: Name = S2359 & String = Pm
5) Create 3rd String Value: Name = STFmt & String = hh:mm t'M'
6) Soft-reset
There has to be a space after the am or pm otherwise it will not display

23-Changing SoftKeys
Create the following keys and Strings in the registry:

112 is the left key and 113 is the right.
Set Default to what you want the key to read (ie. SMS)
Now for each key create a new string named Open and set the target path.

You see it in the bubble that is displayed when you tap the Vision icon.

Click the bottom menu 'edit'
Select new dword value
Change the value name to "Flags2" (no quotes).

Click ok.
You should now see in the 'name/data' section:
Flags2 16 (0x00010)
When done, reset the device.

im usually not one to mess up my phone (ie im usually very cautious, dont play with what i shouldnt) but i wouldnt touch that ringtone modifying hack. i just tried it, hoping to set the ringtone more like it was on an old razr of mine (4vibes and a break) and it really messed up the phone application. like it wouldnt open. even after multiple restarts, everything. after i called my phone from another one, the phone app opened, thankfully, and then it started working but gave me quite a scare before that
EDIT- nope, that didnt fix it either. even after calling from another phone, once my 6800 is restarted, the phone app wont work again. god this will be the 4th hard reset this week. lame.

Duration of the rington
Has anyone an idea if it is possible to say the phone how long the ringtone should play till the phone hangs up and went into mailbox.
I mean is it possilbe to set the duration to eg. 30 sec or more till it hangs up.

I know there is a hack to stop ActiveSync from starting automatically but I can't find it. Searched here and PDAphonehome. Anyone have it?

The best Reg Edits

Hi Guys,
What do you think are the best registry edits on the TD2 and what do they do?
I have been looking through the old ones for the TD1 and i have been changing thinks like the GPS enable on the camera ETC.
Any good suggestions you might have to improve the TD2 experience would be gratefully appreciated

To basically use Manila in landscape mode, there are 3 registry mods needed:
1) Add string value to HKCU\Software\HTC\Manila
String: EnableLandscape Value: true
2. Add string value to HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor\ModuleName
String: TF3D Value: \Windows\manila.exe
3. Add string value to HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor\WhiteList
String: TF3D Value: Manila
To use Windows Explorer in landscape mode, there are 2 registry mods needed.
1. Add string value to HKCU\Software\HTC\HTCSENSOR\GSensor\ModuleName

When I do this my device locks itself automatically after few secons even though I've set the backlight to go off after 30 seconds. Does anybody have a solution that can handle this problem?

You mean that after this hack Manilla will auto-rotate according to its orientation, or will it PERMANENTLY be in landscape mode?

it wil rotate according to the orientation, only one side (270deg. i think) !!

I think you have to add tomtom itself instead of the audio fix, because the audio fix loads the tomtom app.

I use a program called changescreen, it auto rotates by default but you can specifiy which apps you don't want to rotate. This works for TomTom + everything else. I didn't want to have to use an app to rotate, I'd rather have the phone take care of it but the rotate implementation on the D2 is pretty half-arsed. The reason I have to use this is because I'm left handed and tilt clockwise, htc in their infinite wisdom only tilts anticlockwise, for right handed people.

sorry i never tested this, i use G-sensor works for almost everything.
