Hi My screen crashes in portrait if i slide the keyboard out it works fine in landscape. This doesnt happen all the time but i have noticed it happening more often than not nowdays.
Anyone know how to fix this.
Cheers
hi i have the same problem...
Any one got any ideas ?
Got my Sprint Mogul a couple of days ago and having a tough time with the keyboard backlight not working.
I've done my searching and found that some people got their keyboard backlight to work by unchecking the option in Settings->Buttons->Backlight.
This didn't work for me.
Some people recommended just hitting a few keys and the backlight should work.
This didn't work for me either.
I'm looking at what just may be bad hardware and will have to replace the phone. That keyboard is damn hard to see in even the best low-light conditions. Forget about typing in the dark.
Does anyone know of methods that will force the keyboard to turn on so that I can test it?
unchecking the auto sensor option like you did should force it to come on whenever the keyboard is out, if it doesnt come on within a few seconds of sliding out id say get a replacement phone
I agree with defaultdotxbe...if unchecking the autosensor box isn't forcing it to be always on, I'd be worried.
I've left the autosensor activated, and my keyboard light works, but I must admit that it sometimes doesn't go on when I think it should. The sensor seems to be calibrated so that it has got to be pretty dark for the silly thing to decide to light up!
Having said that, someone on one of these forums came up with a pretty neat trick. If know I want to force the keyboard to be lit, I just slide it out about a quarter of an inch. The sensor is still hidden under the body of the phone at this point, and it thinks it's completely in the dark. The keyboard always lights up at that point. Once it's lit, then I slide the keyboard out the rest of the way. Brilliant, huh? You might wanna try that just to see if it makes any difference.
Good luck!
Thanks, peeps. I had the same problem with the keyboard light and was getting extremely frustrated. I tried the sensor trick (opening the keyboard 1/4) and, viola, it worked!

I also had the problem and after lots of searching I found out it was because I had the screen backlight turned all the way down. I moved it up to the first notch and now it works just fine even with the sensor.

This trick also fixes the orientation issues when turning on and it is in landscape rather than portrait.
Hey guys... I'm having a lot of troubles with the lcd screen on my 8525 and this start about a month ago.. I've had this phone for almost one year... bought it as a refurb.
1. when i'm using the phone portrait mode the screen alignment would be perfect... however when i slide the keyboard open the screen goes to landscape and my alignment would be completely off. Heres the interesting part... say if it is still in landscape and i align it then.. it would work perfectly in landscape but then when i close the keyboard and go back to portrait the alignment would be extremely off again.
2. now when i'm in portrait mode and i go to start -> settings -> system -> screen and switch the screen to landscape (w.o sliding the keyboard open) the screen would be perfectly aligned... but when i slide the keyboard open... the alignment would be completely off again... now if i align it while it is in landscape (keyboard open) and go to start..settings..system..screen and change it to portrait the alignment would be perfect... but when i close the keyboard.... it would be off again...
is there anyway i can fix this? I've done a hard reset and flashed the firmware all over again... btw i'm using WM6 from the htc website. if anyone can help...lemme know what i have to do....
thankz
p.s my phones starts with s/n ht649.
Can't say I've seen that reported before. Sounds software based. You could try backing up and hard resetting.
Mike
I already tried that.. it didn't work.
Sorry, my bad - you clearly said you had done that already.
I can't fathom what hardware problem there could be. The magnet orientation switch is clearly fine it seems the X Y co-ords are not swapping over - but that seems a software matter, yet your hard reset suggests hardware - Im stumped.
Mike
If the whole screen is moving, including the start menu etc,
I have seen this before, when building my phone, if the lcd ribbon cable is not alligned perfectly this can occur... but resetting the device did not resolve the issue in this instance.
Cheers
Steve
So I guess I'll have to take it to a cellphone repair shop and have it looked at. I just hope it won't cost too much... the phone was a refurb and i got it for $100. Do you guys have any other suggestions?
I have bought a new housing for my Uni off ebay and replaced my old one. Everything went smoothly but now the screen won't rotate from lanscape to portrait automatically when I flip the screen, neither will it turn on/off the display when opened/closed.
Any ideas how it works to see if I can rectify the problem?
Thanks
Thanks everyone for looking. I have managed to figure it out. In case someone else ever has the same issue, a small magnet is responsible for the screen rotation. It is located near the front camera as can be seen in the picture.
Thanks a lot, I have the same problem so I will check if this works for me...
Did you solved the problem of turn on/off the display?
The magnet is also responsible for the display turning on and off. If you have both issues, you need a magnet
Thanksssssss

You are welcome guys. Hope this will work for you too.
I just got my note and am having problems with auto rotate.
I ran the tests in *#0*#
It looks like they all passed fine
But sometimes mine rotates n it's own and when it rotates, it sticks in Horizontal.
I do not understand the calibration instructions for Horizontal and Gyroscope.
For instance, when it says place device on a level surface and press calibrate, does that mean just place it on it's back on a table? Also, after it is done calibrating, should the gyroscope "ball" on that page move when you move the device? Mine is always stationary.
On the horizontal calibration, how do you position the device before you hit the calibrate button? Should it be landscape or portrait?
IMO they don't explain these very well and it's confusing how to set this up.
Yes, just place it on a table or the floor. Not sure with the gyroscope since i don't have the Note yet, but i imagine the ball moves.
If this is a bug it's a software bug. All Desire HD owners including me had the auto rotate bug when it got released. These are bugs that's very common on freshly released Android devices, and it will get fixed.

Here's the question I have:
I only have 30 days for return if it's broken. Nobody else has complained about auto rotate yet and I would think that would come out pretty fast. I figured out mine had a problem 30 seconds out of the box.
Hi les_garten (another maemo/TMO refugee here!) - I've had my note for over a week, haven't seen any spontaneous rotations at all. I calibrated my gyro on day 1 though I think you don't ned to unless you are having problems. Once calibrated, the blue ball just sits in the centre of the circles, it doesn't move at all.

Thanx for that info! Mine also rotates when I turn horizontal, then won't go back into portrait.
How do you do the Horizontal calibration. Do you stand it on it's edge in landscape mode?
I'll never give Nokia another Nickel! Great idea with dismal execution.
horizontal calibration just involves sitting it flat on a flat surface. After calibration the ball can be "rolled" across both axes - like I said above, for me at least the gyro calibration screen does not allow the ball to roll at all either before or after calibration (hope that's what's supposed to happen, I've never had a phone with a gyro before, I would have assumed the ball was meant to move in response to tilt/turn ....

if you go into the dialer and dial *#0*#
then do sensors and run the Gyro tests and graph, it seems to be fine.
I have to keep auto rotate off.
It will rotate Landscape, but won't return to portrait.
It wil flip Landscape on one side and Landscapeon the other side, but won't do portrait, till auto rotate is turned off.
Anybody have any suggestions on how to fix this?
I guess I could whack it and start over, but that blows! That would at least tell me something I guess.
It's really irritating. And I would hate to keep it if it is broke.
I have the auto rotate bug also...you need to try many times before it will rotate... kind of embarrsing.. but I am sure it will be fixed first..but sometimes I wonder..if samsung have tired the phone at all before they ship it...such fundamental feature should work...without any problems

Thanx. I just did mine last night as well.
Very happy now!
i just got a galaxy note 3 weeks ago and it is running gingerbread 2.3.6
i have the same problem for the auto rotation problem, when i test the gyro and horizontal calibration, the ball doesnt move or move in a very laggy motion, when i lever my phone to a certain angle in all direction, the ball will not move in some area of the display. i had calibrated once before it has this problem, the ball move smoothly in any angle...now my message will auto rotate to landscape while i holding it in potrait...please help
I can't actually help fix anything - but if you enter *#0*# in the dialer and then select "sensor" from the LCD tests, then "image test" (under accelerometer sensor) you'll get a picture of a dog whichshould rotate between portrait & landscape as you rotate the phone, and there is an overlayed real time display of x and y axis angles as registered by the accelerometer.
This test should at least show whether the h/w is working or not.
Fix here

I can fix that. This is from galaxy S2 but i dont knows how for Note, i try and working for Note. But after install from CWM, i see Setting/Display/ Gyroscope calibrationand Horizontal calibration. It not working. I was very afraid and i flash new rom N7000ZSLPF---------4.0.3 http://hotfile.com/dl/156123968/e690f65/N7000ZSLPF_N7000OZSLPF_OZS.zip.html
And now Gyroscope not work but rotation is work good.
Sorry my English
