Hi all, thanks the the great forum.
I have the problem that occasionaly my hd closes applications that is in background (like second today, gyrator2). This problem is often when I plug the phone to usb socket and make activesynch.
What is happening?
Thanks a lot...
PS I have the stock ROM with the latest update (15/2/2009)
Any body knows what happens?
No idea why it happens but my Opera and Explorer some times do this for no real reason.
Only thing I can think of is that when it happens there is higher than normal memory usage after they have died (about 75-85%).
Guessing maybe they run out of memory.... But that is only a guess.
Thanks. My memory is 55% full, and this happen.

hi all, I am new to xda-developers, I have recently bought a Qtek 1010 device & upgraded its ROM into PPC2003 4.00.05 ENG Kitchen from yorch.net
I've notices that sometimes my device goes too slow for a few seconds then it returns to normal.
I've installed a task manager software (SuperTasks) that will monitor the CPU usage of the running processes. I have found that FILESYS.EXE is tha cause of slowness!! it takes up to 94% of my CPU time for 10 or 15 seconds!
This is very annoying, I've formatted my PPC & installed my regular programs, and still suffering from this problem!
Is is a ROM problem?? Please help, please!
Thank you all
FILESYS.EXE consumes 94% of my CPU time
I have the same on my O2 XDA II running WM2003. filesys.exe starts its action for example after I take the PDA out of the cradle. It takes 10-15 seconds full CPU and then it comes back to 0.
Not sure what is happening. Filesys.exe is for the file system (disk access). For example, if you kill it with Supertasks, you may find your device stalls completely. You cannot even do a warm or cold reset. The only thing to get back into business was to take out the battery of my XDA II!
There are also posts on Microsoft.com about memory leaks in filesys.exe. There seems to be an issue with accessing files that go accross the 32MB limit.
All in all typical Microsoft: Bugs all over the place and no patches available...
Micro$oft = BAD! 8)
yeah you are right! it seems to be memory leaks!
but I have done something which has reduced the longly effect of filesys.exe!
I usually leave my XDA turned on all the night, but on charger. I've noticed that this could give a good time for windows to DEFRAGMENT the main memory, cus i think that when filesys.exe takes up to 94% of CPU time, then its doing some defragmentation to the main memory, even if you have more than 20 MB of free space!
So I just leave it running all the night because this issue PLUS another issue which still I suffer from!!! when i suspend my XDA while its being on the charger, the sound completly goes off!! even when i got incoming calls & SMS message, I can't hear them at all!!!!!
Hope Micro$oft will fix all these bugs in their outcoming version of windows 2003 second edition
Dude, You're blaming Microsoft for all these problems when you've screwed about with your machine's ROM! Speaking from experience as an XDA2 owner, I have no problems with my machine at all, and it's running the original ROM and original Bluetooth stack.
Most of the people who seem to have problems are the ones who've modified their ROM, either with an official upgrade from another service provider (and another country!!), or with some cooked-up ROM from Yorch.
Stop blaming Microsoft when the problem may be your own!
Original ROMs?
well, I have a cooked ROM from yourch, but I don't think its the problem. We all know that Microsoft products are full of bugs! but also I am beleiving that using original ROMs will solve the problem, but I really donno from where can I find original ROMs for W2003 second edition?
Re: Original ROMs?
Filesys DOES defragment the filesystem on a regular interval.
..Chuck..
Filesys.exe
I notice that filesys.exe is also doing overtime after switching the XDA II on and after taking it out of the cradle. No idea what happens, but I have the feeling it is caching data (what doesn't make sense on a diskless system).
To sublimatica: have you tried to see what happens to your "standard machine" after installing SuperTasks?
yes its the defragmentation process, it occurs usually when the device is idle or when the device is turned on!it takes at least 90% of CPU time, and if it was running while a call is coming then u will miss that call before you get notified about it!!!! :?
I was just wondering, I did a permenant backup of my contacts & calendar on the ROM using the tool that comes up with the windows. But I've notice that everytime i soft rest my device, an annoying status bar comes up & saying SYNCHRONIZING YOUR CONTACTS and SYNCHRONIZING YOUR CALENDAR,, it takes about half minute & I can't do anything until it finishes!!!
If anyone knows how to get rid of this please tell me,, Am thinking to make hard reset :?
Backup on ROM
Just disable the backup using "Settings", "System", "Permanent Save". Make sure all check-boxes are clear.
On my XDA I had another problem: when you have a lot of contacts and tasks, you get an error message: "backup area is full". The only way to get rid of that was to stop sync-ing to ROM.
If you regularily dock your XDA, it is really not needed to do the extra backup on ROM. Your Outlook on your PC will be the backup.
After restoring your normal backup, you need to tell the restore process to replace all items on your device with the items on the computer and off you go...
It worked, thanks ahiemstra.... it was really annoying me, now its gone
I noticed something strange in my XDA I...!! when its docked & connected to the power supply, it goes faster than when it not! :? I donno, maybe its an issue to save battery at the cost of less CPU speed!
I have the same problem with filesys.exe and CPU usage (I have an I-Mate PDA2K). Anything new to solve this?
Thanks!
Mr B
Wow... this has been happening for this long? It's still happening with WM6.

do any one know which radio is stable and consume less energy?

I'll leave it to others to give advice on which radio to use. It might be worth installing danielherrero's (one of our own developers) bandswitch application http://www.commmgrpro.com/ You could use this to limit phone to certain bands only with an easy interface. Would allow you to check out exactly what is causing the drain on battery.
Mike
thanks for helps
Sorry, got me stumped. So with no radios on the consumption is double that when wifi is on!!
Let's see if anyone else has any suggestions.
Mike
infinite loop perhaps??
What ROM/Radio versions are you running? EDIT:: seen the ROMs, perhaps try updating to a newer dopod ROM??
Also what 3rd party apps have you got installed??
(RESCO was a ***** for doing this to my TyTN)
the exact same thing happens to me. i've charged it completely, it obviously got really hot. usually at this point, i would take out the battery and let it cool off before turning the phone on, otherwise it would get even hotter and eat 300+ mA and drain the battery fast. this time i opened the wi-fi connection and immediately the battery status dropped from 332 mA to 130, and stayed down there. the phone even cooled down a bit. after i've turned off the wi-fi, it started draining and heating again. what can i do? is it a software or hardware problem? i'm using schaps 4.31, 1.47.30.10, have google maps, palringo, opera, tcpmp installed
I have the same behavior, too.
But not yesterday evening. After restarted it for the xxx time it staid at 28mA. This was so until I left the train in the morning. It went up to 347mA and I am not able to get it back to 28.
I am using the default HTC ROM "HTC_TyTN_GER_3.54.257.2_103_6275_1.47.00.10_108".
I also tried several other ROMS (Schaps, Pays ...) and different radio versions as "HERM_Radinly_1.16.00.00_CustomRUU", "HERM_Radinly_1.47.00.00_CustomRUU", "HERM_Radinly_1.47.00.10_CustomRUU", "HERM_Radinly_1.47.30.10_CustomRUU" and "HERM_Radinly_1.54.30.10_CustomRUU"
but none of them helped me out.
I also done the Exchange Server trick, deactivated 3G and even deactivated all GPRS or EDGE possibilities from provider side.

Phone gets hot
Hi,
I am not an expert but I had the same problem with my phone, I solved the problem by moving some software I had on my storage card to the internal memory, (in my case it was the encryption and additional language support software I had)
Another way is to look for the Power management tweak in this forum which helps to manage your storage cards power draining,
Sound strange but it worked for me.
Good luck
Hi,
the new battery has arrived.
There is no change in battery draining
What I recognized is, that if the battery is "cold" the power consumtion is around 28mA. But after a call it is getting warm and uses 10 time so much of power.
Please don't laugh now:
I put the battery inside my freezer for 5 minutes. Put it back inside the mobile ...
... 28mA.
If I keep it cold it stays fine for 3 days.
There must be any solution on that.

ok heres the deal. Lately the memory on my wing has been draining DRASTICALLY!! I always had the memory issue but now as soon as the phone starts up i woudl have like 16mb free ( changed the pagepool to 6mb.) then it would go down to 3.5 in like 10 seconds. Anyone know why it would be doing this. Is there a solution. I am still using the factory tmobile rom.
Right after soft-reset, the memory should get down for a while and then come back to normal. I can see Active Sync running at that time and I used to close it.. Does the same happen there?
yah activesync is running also but even after i close it and the phone sits for the whole day it will still be at 3.4/5 when activesync is running it drops to 2.8
Hello,
Being used HD for one week, I found one problem about memory consumption (not a problem actually ).
At startup, about 120M free memory, after using for one day (Opera, view picture, games, stock manager, etc), only about 80M RAM left.
I have tried to use
- oxios memory
- MemMaid 2.0
but it can only free 1-2M RAM, where is my RAM
Yes, I found out the same problem! Try to do a reset and the memory is cleaned again. I use the X button to kill all programs after using them, but it seems to be fludding on a regular basis, also activesync program keep popping up when I'm not connected, and the memory usage slowely gets higher every hour with a few procent.
Does anyone else has the same prob? Didn't use special appz yet, because it doesn't seem to disturb working with device.

Until the phone starts having problems, why worry? With every new device there are threads like this with people obsessing over the amount of free RAM their devices show, but honestly you can just leave Windows Mobile to deal with the RAM itself and you'll never have a problem. There's no need to try and recover all the RAM that you think should be free. The OS will take care of it.
I have the same problem. My guess is it a memory leak in some apps. ITs no big deal, because there is lots of free memory and if it really bugs me, I can do a soft reset every now and then.
Yes, it is not a problem to me until now as there are plenty of RAM available!
I just curious about the kinds of program that consume the memory??
From my observation, WM OS is not doing the job of memory management well.

Clearing your browser cache will retrieve some of it
(unless you have it to cache to the storage card)
I don't bother too much with this as it does not seem to become a problem.
But, I don't "load and leave" applications. I also generally do a soft reset once a week.
However, in SK Tools there is a "FreeUP RAM" application as part of the suite. I just ran it and it recovered 2 mbytes (a bit less than 1 %)
@ Swantony001 :
Hi, there is a thead about stopping Active-Sync activating itself all the time.
Works perfectly for me.

Greetings,

the memory leak does cause problems for me, well with tomtom7 it does. sometimes i get the message "not enough memory" unpon booting TT and am forced to do a soft reset.
its not often, but the fact it happens piddles me off!
Hi, guys!
I've noticed the same thing! Something consumes active memory!!!
I watched some processes... So "cprog.exe" and "device.exe" eat memory from time to time.
I use Soft Reset once a day or in two days.
If anyone gets a new WWE ROM with that bug being fixed, please, let me know .
Memory consumption is not a big problem now, but it's a bit annoying...

Damn never experienced this problem before *touches wood*
Yeah i have experience the memory leaking up starting from 38% to 44% in a matter of hours.
No biggie, but if it comes down to problems like jonajuna experienced then, yes that is a problem.
Suddenly and strangely my HD2 has been freezing and rebooting by itself for no reason (that i know of) and it heats up a bunch. My freezes generally happen when I go on YouTube, browse the internet, watch Transformers, or switch to Android.
I don't know what is causing this at all. I have over 10gbs remaining on my SD card and still a good amount of memory on the device so I don't know if it is a memory issue, I also always to task killer to shut off unused apps and keep a low display (both on wm and android)
I'm using the stock HD2 rom, all I have is HSPL 3 and for Android I'm using darkstone froyosense v3.2
If anyone can help me I will be extremely grateful

The first thing that comes to my mind is your battery. Does it charge normally or is the LED sometimes blinking from red to green and back? How about battery consumption? There must be something wrong with either your battery or the connections, because that causes the heat, certainly when you're using battery draining apps like YouTube, Android, etc.
Hope this helps.
regards, Kuzibri
Try and remove the memory card and see if the freezing goes away.
sounds like overheating, search here on xda, there were few threads on this,
in the meantime install BattClock and check if freezes happen in correlation to battery temp.
my HD2 did the same thing. I eventually had to get a warranty replacement. Mine would freeze on occasion and then it just froze completely. Doing a Task29 and flashing a new ROM did not help.
if all else fails your best bet is to get a warranty replacement from your carrier

Yeah, that's what I'm considering doing.
As for connections, I've noticed that my input socket on my phone for my usb charger cord isn't grabbing the cord as it should. when i charge my phone the cord easily disconnects and wiggles around
