i like p3400 very much ....its really tough phone.....even though it lacks wifi (major problem) and it doesnt hv 3.5 mm jack
its' been more thn one year since i hv Gene ....n i gotta say that m very satisfied with its service..and battery life..
after gene i hv purchased two More HTC devices...HTC Diamond and HTC Touch HD....
but still i like gene so much...that i even dont wanna resell it...
i m thinkin to keep it....untill it lasts...
Some features r even better than HTC Diamond
like its Sound ( TOuch HD has best though)
Battery..(unbeatable)
memory card expansion (diamond lacks),,,
So....my opinion is.....if u hv Gene once,,....u cant forget it.....

Its actually not just Gene, I can never forget my S710 (I gifted it to some one). First when I got my hands on it, I thought OMFG what a device! But now when I see touch Pro, my mouth starts watering . So, the first "Good" phone will always have a special place in your heart. Like I have a really soft corner for my Vox (and Nokia E50 ).
So in my opinion, if you feel like changing your phone (always a good idea ), Go for a higher processor. You can find specs at gsmarena.com.
I personally wish, I can some day afford a Touch Pro, or its successor or atleast a Tilt.

well bro...i dont think so...that having higher processor makes a phone good...
having both touch HD n Touch diamond...i still think that gene is fast enough...
cuz in touch HD...i cant play even a video right......i mean...whtever format i use....at high quality (touch HD is supposed to play vid at high resolution 800x480) it always gets stuck.....and if i use low bitrate n low resolution...than it looks so bad.....
and both of thes high performance phones get hang a lot....
video in diam is good....but still watching vids in Touch HD at optimum quality is mystery for me..
ever core player in both phones doesnt support hardware acceleration.....so...its useless.......cuz using HTC for watching video.....sucks....
i mean no functions in HTC album at all...
only thing with thes higher devices r ther RAM.......plenty of free RAM is available in thes phones.. ....so...thts good....
and......wht to tell abt GPS........both touch HD n Diam seems so worth gps technology..........it takes so much time for getting "fix"..
so....i mean,......we waste lot of money in thes higher end phones (Diam is of Rs 24K n Touch HD comes in 42K .....and we get wht...?? ....
HTC should do something about it........really....i mean it..

but both phone u said has issues with their graphics drivers , just look in the dev hack section and u will know what i mean . HD is notorious for its play back issues. Any OMHO a faster processor is required for faster execution of code . And higher the graphics, more complex the code.

Also a ppc is like a PC only if u upgrade your pc, wont you go for a higher CPU?

@ Guys : Any idea about Samsung Omnia pro 7230? It is selling at 13-14 K, has wm6.1, 3G enabled, Qwerty keypad and looks like good business phone (blackberry style). See Specifications
Is it worth a buy as I am planning to purchase a Qwerty keypad phone with WM OS and relatively good battery life?
Please suggest some options within 15K? Blackberry or Nokia E63 ruled out.... Hope some support will also be available for these devices as well.

any Windows Mobile base phone rules on business phone

I might say I spent the last week, doing less appointments and worrying more about my cute but bricked New Gene, but finally succeeded today in the morning at 2 A.M. (Thanx to Orefkov n Sumit).
But that has made the phone even dearer to me, I was a mad fan of Nokia, but HTC P3400i has definitely usurped the position now.
Planning for an Xperia next though, but Gene will always be my first n foremost in the touch category.........

I would like to buy a bigger screen one, like HTC TOUCH HD ,but I am in china. It now cost feckly 3300RMB.

@Guys : My Gene is deadIt fell in bucket full of water and has been declared as not worth further repair. Sent to burial....
I have bought Samsung OmniaPro 7320 ( Similar to Samsung Jack) without touch screen. It has Windows 6.1 Standard, 3 G, 3 MP camera, Wifi , GPS all other features. Sounds Great
But I am really missing the customised ROMs, applications, home screen themes and ..the Touch Screen feel. Many of WM applications like Clear temp, Resco Explorer, Oxios Memory etc. fail to install.
Could anybody help/direct me to sites where I can decent customised home screen and some custom applications compatible with Samsung Omnia Pro??
I hear Samsung would be making available WM6.5 upgrade available shortly. God Knows I am really missing XDA developers.

anyone have idea about Acer E101 because it has a good configuration at very low price if we compare with HTC devices
if anyone have this device plz share ur experience ..
thanks !!!!!!

I get the new HTC MAGIC 32A with android, at moment much better than WM

Questions about WinMo Pro on the Shift

Hi I know a couple people here stated they have WinMo Pro 6 running on the "SnapVue" portion of the Shift. Excuse me if I explained that wrong. My question is what resolution does it run in? 640x480, 800x480, 320x240? And Can it access the phone portion(assuming from comments that it will in fact have voice)?
I'm really getting excited about the Shift since people are saying that in fact can run full blown Windows Mobile Pro. Why HTC didn't include/market that from the beginning is beyond me. It would TOTALLY seperate the Shift from any other UMPC on the market. Instead they aren't marketing it and it sits in a pile of other boring UMPC's. HTC's marketing practices as of late are really questionable. If it does have voice I'm crossing my fingers there is an earpiece built in. I doubt it but I'm hoping. Yes I know I'll look like an uber nerd using it that way but I can't stand BT headsets and barely talk on my devices that much anyway. Thanks.
Hello juiceppc,
I'm not sure at 100% about what I will say.. but I think that the resoluion in SnapVue is 640*480 (there are 2 black areas at each side of SnapVue).
For the phone portion ... humm .. it's difficult to know, but we will try the best to have it ! It's sure that we will be able to read SMS... but nothing is sure about receiving and giving calls.. we have to wait for the final version of the Shift to test.
Just stay tune in this forum... and you will have your answer... As Soon As Possible !

hi
i realy like the Shift, but if can run wm6 full ... I'm excited!
there is a problem: the 2 operating system must use the some devices in the same time (bt, wifi, etc).
for browse on the net, or for chat, the wm6 is enough, and is not necessary to run vista.
and if htc release the win xp drivers, the battery life can be bigger.
but i cant find anywhere a documented review about shift....(everybody is happpy, the shift is the best...) no phone, no gps, the image cant rotate, no wm6, no xp drivers...
i think the comunity can resolve this problem but the feedback is verry low.
the device is not released .. so stop to anticipate everything ... we will try to make the Shift the best device EVER... but we need to get one to test everything on it !
I don't care about XP (it's a completely horrible O.S. .. and Vista is 10000 times better) but for the rest, we ALL want GPS, PHONE and full WM6 .. even without that, the SHIFT is an innovative device.. and is much better than every other device... so WAIT and you'll see.
why buy a HTC Shift?
I have a Dopod U1000, its the best device ever. I have a Sony TZ notebook as well. I was thinking why bother to buy the HTC Shift?
- Battery life 2 hours Vs Sony 11 hours
- it runs on a paralysed WM6 that is probably not going to be that useful Vs Dopod U1000
- the screen resolution is poor Vs Sony beautiful crystal clear screen
- HTC Shift probably runs on hard disk Vs Sony runs on flash memory,
- This is the first PC by HTC Vs Sony many years of R&D experience
I have purchased the Samsung Q1 as well as the small Sony UMPC before. Both proof to be quite useless. When I bring them out. I have to wait a few minutes for it to boot up. After using for just awhile the battery goes flat. You will be left wondering why do u ever bother to bring such a heavy device around. Trust me folks battery life is important. If you buy the HTC Shift after a month the battery life drops to probably 1 hour. In addition, the screen size is way too small to run Windows. I am very sure there will be many second hand models in ebay after 2 weeks of launching
Pls think twice..

I totally disagree with your comment :
- Battery life 2 hours Vs Sony 11 hours
First .. I bet that the shift can be used about 5 days without using Windows Vista (only SnapVue or WM6). And the Sony is twice the price of the Shift ... ergh!!!!
- it runs on a paralysed WM6 that is probably not going to be that useful Vs Dopod U1000
You seem to be paralysed when talking about it ... the WM6 will be sufficiently well working (even without removing SnapVue) because of ability to install Cab .. and I believe that Full WM6 will be easy to have. The Dopod doesn't have Windows Vista ... and having WM5 or even WM6 on the Dopod is exactly the same of having SnapVue on the Shift.
- the screen resolution is poor Vs Sony beautiful crystal clear screen
I can put the Shift in my pocket ...but not the Sony. 7" is the perfect resolution for me (I have tried 2 Shifts and I really like the screen size and the Shift keyboard). At home I plug a VGA cable .. and here we go !
- HTC Shift probably runs on hard disk Vs Sony runs on flash memory,
The sony runs on flash memory? MMh maybe... but it's twice the price of the shift... and unable to put it in the pocket... bad !
- This is the first PC by HTC Vs Sony many years of R&D experience
I have tried 2 Shifts.. and it was working perfectly, as fast as I want ..... so I don't care about the years of R&D experience of Sony.
Here's my thoughts... I'm not trying to put you down, or to say that you are wrong .. but features depends on the way you want to use it , and you use devices. We are talking about 3 completely different devices.... and I don't believe that any other "released" device can change my opinion that the Shift is the only good device on the market right now (because of 2 CPU and 2 OS).
How about we keep our heads about us people and stay objective.
Comparing a Sony TZ to the shift is a useless comparison. One is a notebook, the other an umpc. Each serves a different purpose for different people and different tasks.
Koala, if you can put the shift in your pocket than I would hate to see your sense of fashion. Im sorry I dont doubt you could shove the shift into your pocket but show some decorum....theres better umpcs to shove down there that would look less ridiculous.
Remember people, different tasks, different people = different devices. For me ill probably have to seriously look at the Shift if WM can be made practical, if the GPS can be enabled (remember the P3600 ppl).
Having owned an X7500 I found it to be a great device, very handy however there are some tasks WinMo just can do as well as full Windows. The excellent, connectivity, battery life, and quick responsiveness of WinMo will be ideal for me with the option to flick it to Vista at a whim for those times when im away from my desk and need to do work on the move. If it has GPS and phone functions can be enabled than thats just a bonus

same for me ... it's not ridiculous to put it in my pocket because it looks like if my pocket was empty ... nobody can see that I have something in my pocket... and when I have a bag with me, it will be in my bag .. but I can visit friends without having a bag and without having to look like "coming to work".
htc shift
I just bought the htc shift a few days ago. There are several problems.
1. I unlocked the full WM6, the problem is that file explorer cannot read the sd card. As such I have to install all the applications on the internal memory. This is not very good as it prompts me that the internal memory is very low.
2. Another problem is the contrast in snapvue. After reseting snapvue, the standard high contrast comes out again. U cannnot lower he backlight.
3. the sync between wm6 and the pc works sometimes. I use USB tool. Most often it does not work and is very slow.
Overall the built quality is good but it still cannot replace my dopod u1000

HTC Touch Pro 2, or HTC Touch HD?

Hey guys new member of the forum i will soon be getting a new phone and it will be either the Touch Pro 2 or the Touch HD. I'm not sure which one to get as i can live without a hardware keyboard which makes the device slimmer and easier to hold, but the question is what is the difference between the 2 phones? are they running the exact same software with the same features etc etc? if they operate exactly the same the HD looks nicer in my opinion, this will be my first time owning a windows mobile, will both phones get the same updates/custom roms. Other peoples opinions on these phones would be a great help, thanks in advance.
Sorry if this is not the correct section to be posting this.
If it was me, I'd maybe hold out for the HTC Leo, the HD's successor
Another thread which is kinda similar regarding people asking what to get after the HD maybe worth a read
thanks for your reply i will have a read of that, the issue is my contract runs out soon and the Leo doesn't yet have a release date and will be getting a new phone the day my contract runs out as i can't get through the day without my phone lol.
Isn't much difference apart from the qwerty keyboard, screen size, D-pad and camera. Generally everything else is similar. Check both the specs and read the wiki for both devices, have a look at the rom forums on both to see whats available.
It would most likely come down what you want, or what your looking for in a device. Basically personal opinion.
TP2 every day in the week.
thanks for the feedback guys. Well i prefer a slightly bigger screen and a slimmer looking phone and find the TP2 to be a little bulky, but if the software is the same this helps a lot as i like the look of the software from the TP2 which will be the same on the HD.

Huge screen, but huge screen means less pixels = less quality. TP2 got a huge advantage when it comes down to screen resolution vs. HD. And the TP2 got a keyboard and 4 hardware buttons you can actually feel.

You're kidding, right? TP2 and HD both have WVGA - you're not seriously telling me that the pixel density on the HD is not high enough? I doubt you could even tell the difference between the two concerning DPI!
And I'd rather have a larger screen than a smaller one - even if the higher DPI would make a difference... What's the use of having a higher DPI on a smaller screen?
Hd is better in music as it has 3.5 mm audio jack which means better sound quality and also hd is higher in price (the only issue is that hd will not get wm6.5 officially from htc ) but i think it will but htc does not announce that to sell alot of the recent devices

I have a Touch HD, although it is in for repairs at the moment, and would consider the TP2 but the lack of a headphone jack is killing me. I live in the US and have not had a chance to play with the TP2. I have AT&T which I am assuming will not have the headphone jack like the Sprint and Verizon (CDMA) model has, Lucky Bastards!!! Anyway, that is what will probably stop me from getting the TP2.
I am sure there will be other options with a headphone jack in the future since HTC has made it clear that most future devices will have them. TP3?? I think they are a little sore from the lashing they took for not putting it in the TP2 which is clearly a great multimedia device. Kida like buying some of the original flat panel tv's that didn't have a TV tuner or speakers. Kinda defeats the purpose.
Well I personally recomend the Touch HD (not only for the reason that I have it and I love it ) when I was choosing my device I was looking for the bigest screen on the market as I like browsing the internet a lot and let me say this BIGGER IS BETTER when we are talking about PPC's nothing can change that also you get a cool design that gets the "WOW" effect from anyone and your pants will not fall to the ground when you are carying it in your pocket. It really depends on the person but for me if I have two phones with almost equal specifications I'll go for the bigger screen even if it is 0,1 inches bigger than the other one.Leo is probably my next device but I heard great things about TOSHIBA's TG01 4.1 inch monster with 1ghz proccessor that's only 10mm thick if you can get your hands on that (it's available in some areas) I would recommend that.
If you are only using one phone I would get the TP2. As I already have the E71 for emails etc I ordered the Touch HD yesterday as a semi tablet.
if it were me, id let my contract run out, continue using the service with your old phone until Leo is released, then upgrade if your carrier runs with the leo, if it doesnt id then upgrade to the most expencive phone they offer then leaving it in its box id flog it on ebay an use the money to buy the leo...
just my thoughts

Diamond 2 worth it?

Hey guys,
I currently own a Sony Ericsson Xperia, and am possibly looking for a new phone. I love the look of a proper HTC phone, with Manilla ofc, because I love it, and they are good quality phones. I can't decide between a Diamond 2 (Topaz) or a Touch HD (Blackstone) and would like to know what you guys love so much about the Diamond 2.
Be it custom ROMs here, features etc. I would love to know what you like best =)
Thanks ^^
The only difference is that blackstone has a little large display but the resolutions are same.
And the blackstone has no zoombar. But its no problem.
If i were you i'd choose Blackstone.
Both worth to your money.
I love Topaz because it really feels more like a phone compared to the Diamond. I also like to watch alot of movies and series on my phone so a big screen was seomthing I needed (movies looks amazing on the screen btw).
The phone is really fluid and smooth and I haven't installed a Custom ROM because the Stock is really good (under 50% RAM usage all the time except when I watch movies of course).
If you like to listen to music and watch movies, pick the HD (it got 3.5mm jack, tho you can buy a adapter to the Topaz for $5 or something).
And now for a difference of opinion...
I find the blackstone to large for a day to day phone, and prefer the diamond 2....

I agree. I had the choice of either but chose the Touch Diamond 2 because the HD is too big for my pockets.
Man.
The TD2 can do VGA (640x480) videos, the HD can't. Though don't expect the quality to be as good as a proper camera doing VGA videos.
i'd keep your cash and stay away from htc all together...this phone is nothing but problems and faults.....just look at the board and see how many people are complaining about things with it.
I should've got an Iphone...even though i used to be very anti apple everything.......at least they work
I love my TD2 - I think it has a perfect size. It's snappy. I use it with SPB Mobile Shell and it works great. The only bad thing with the TD2 is battery life -I get under one day with heavy use..
If not TD2 I would definately not go for Blackstone -but wait for HTC Leo...........

Same here with the battery life, but if I let it in standby over the night (6-10 hours) I don't lose more than 10% on that time which I think is damn good.
I made a test yesterday and watched as many movies I could on the phone and I could watch a totalt of 3h 20min before it died (100% to 0%).

Ditto on the battery life. I find Manila a bit too finger friendly. I've got the Topaz Essential ROM and SPB Mobile shell 3 running on it and its real smooth. There are a few quirks here and there as with any other phone but HTC makes one of the best Windows Mobile phones on the market, great for business or pleasure.
I prefer Diamond 2 cuz the screen fits girls very much. Compared with it, HD is a little bit larger than that. I have to take the phone everyday and the HD is just too large for that.

Be it custom ROMs here, features etc. I would love to know what you like best =)
Thanks ^^

I wouldn't listen to this. The Topaz is the best phone I've had yet... well worth your money!
I considered getting a blackstone, but I also found the screen too large. I would consider the Topaz to be an upgrade on the Blackstone. It has slightly more functionality, it looks better and since it's newer it seems to be better supported. (e.g. It will be getting the windows Mobile upgrade and a new Manila soon - Not sure if the blackstone will be getting these Of course you could always have these with a cooked ROM)
I just got mine for 2 weeks and so far I got no complaint.
When I try out Blackstone and Topaz I feel the touchscreen work slightly faster (this might due to firmware) and blackstone with silicone case cannot fit my pocket.
Also smaller screen with the same resolution just give you a crispy video playback and to my surprise the built-in media player actually work better than core player. (at least for h.264+aac encode).
PS. Go to hell with iphone I you love sending messages forgot about iphone. It would make your life harder. I usually a pro apple (owning power mac g3-5 + mac pro) but iphone is just a fad...

I prefer TD2 instead of HD, but that's just me...
Good luck to take the right decision for you!
Can any of you D2 owners compare the external speaker to lets say a BB 8900? I know it can't match TP2's speakers but how much worse is it?
The external speaker is located aft under the camera lens and lighting. Sound can be tuned to maximum loud and clear sound bearable. But there are many complaints as they coulcn't hear any audio (no ring, no alerts, no music) coming through the external speaker on BB 8900.
Does anyone know if the "rumored" 3G AT&T version of the D2 that's "supposed" to be released in October has 3.5 mm headphone jack? The leaked pictures do not show the top or lower edges of the phone. Some of the recent releases of the TP2 in the US and the new My Touch 2 have a 3.5mm jacks. I refuse to carry a dongle and the sound quality of Bluetooth headphones are not match for my UE IEMs. This is one feature that makes the iPhone very convenient.
YES!!
I owned a NOVA (ELF) for 2 years, which was not a bad device at all, but the new Diamond 2 is much better. The in-hand feeling is wonderful. I did not have problems until now and I am also happy with the battery duration.

Would anyone still get an HD rather than an HD2?

Being smaller and offering a resistive screen plus still being a good phone are there any advantages of the HD over the HD2?

woooop another manc i only got my HD like 2 weeks ago, upgraded from my touch diamond, i cudnt afford a HD2, so i got the next best thing lol
I too have a diamond, the reason i'm interested is that i'm outdoors ALOT! So a cap screen is rubbish with gloves on.
I could go for a S200 or TG01 but XDA DEV have no support for these. So a nearly new HD is tempting, but the performance of the HD will be no better than my Diamond other then the extra memory...
There are a few of us Mancs about
i have maybe 50% free ram, when using my HD and thats running Sence 2.5, on the diamond tho it soon shot up to like 20-30% free ram only using TF3D 2.1, but on the other hand, even tho the HD has a higher resolution, things looked alot sharper on the diamond, maybe cuz of its smaller screen size, i like being able to use a sd card tho, im not limited to 4gb like on the diamond and the large screen is gr8 for watching movies, The HD dosent offer that much more than the diamond tho so yeah the HD 2 is the better choice if you can afford it lol I could of got a TGO1 for £200 pound, £35 pound less than i paid for my HD, They got em in the fone shop nr picadilly station in town if you want one lol
Near the train station or those near Picadilly Gardens (bus station)? A TG01 would be tempting.
Near the train station, its just at the top off the hill, they got hundreds of fones in the windows, theres another site floating about called wmdevelopers or sumat, its ment to be like xda but for other wm devices, you'll be able to upgrade a tgo1 there i assume
I'd say you wait for some time -- see what comes out and maybe there will be something even better than HD2!!
As for me (a Touch HD owner) I wont go for HD2, because:
1) it has snapdragon - I was waiting for Tegra
2) There are some rumors about Tegra2 (two times more powerful than Tegra)
3) Im saving some money for a Yamaha WR125X , so I cant afford to spend it on a new phone, of which I will get bored after a few weeks
4) I've also heard some rumors about Toshiba next models (those after TG01) -same snapdragon cpu, but some nice features like 3speakers (good for me as Im a melomaniac)
if i didnot own touch HD already i would be sure to buy HD2. now for me there is no significant advantage of upgrading
right...i have a HD and cannot wait to get my hands on the HD2...im using a custom rom by L26 which uses the Leo interface. using half the power of the HD2, the Leo interface is bearable, very usable actually, however i can just tell that some of the nags will not be an issue with the extra 500Mhtz of processing power and double ram the HD2 will have. i think using my HD as a backup phone will surfice!
=D
I use a stylus almost 100% of the time so will not be buying an HD2.
More likely to get the acer, even after a bad experience with an F900, it's smaller, has better battery life, look's to be a bit faster and is far cheaper.
Couldn't care less about TF3D or sense.
My HD is OK for the moment, I would have preferred them to just change out the crappy msm7201 for snapragon, make the screen "a lot" more sensitive like the S200 apparently is, leave the rest alone.
The HD2 is a windows mobile iphone because of it's input and has no appeal to me because of it,I can barely stand not having a d-pad, let alone no stylus.
imo a resistive screen with a stylus is better on a finger-unfriendly windows mobile, isn't it?

Absolutely. There are all sorts of threads on the Leo forums where people are having real problems with the capacitive screen, and having to practice hard for a couple of weeks before they get the hang of just typing with the standard keyboard.
Also some folk are finding that the capacitive screen is registering all sorts of crazy inputs when they're not even touching it. Someone's got a hack hat seems to improve things, but I would say wait till WM7 comes out, and HTC have sorted their screen technology/sensitivity.
If the HD2 was resistive I'd buy it without hesitation.

I'd like to think issues between Microsoft and HTC would be resolved with wm7...........but if I was a betting man I'd bet that it would just cause more issues!!
Unfortunately for me (in the US) I have to wait until a branded version comes out. My Touch HD 8585 gets me 3G for now.

when we first bought the blackstone we are surprised by the huge screen which enabled some finger operations on the finger unfriendly windows mobile, but, whenever you need a stylus, you got an option at least. Not really need to go over a learning and compromising process to get used to it.

Touché, I would tend to agree with you on this
Yep. The 4.3" Screen is just too big - not pocket friendly at all. That and the capacitive screen...
I would personally love to trade my HD for an HD2. The HD2 has a larger screen, led flash and most importantly: a 1ghz cpu... too bad it is not going to happen

Android HD2 Upgrade to Desire HD - Stupid ?

Well the question is in the title...
Is it unwise to upgrade an HD2 for a Desire HD ? (Average Cost of upgrade is around 250 dollars at the moment)
It's almost the same phone on paper... Is it really that noticeable ?
Sure, why not?
1. Do you have $250 to spare?
2. Do you prefer to have a native android phone?
Also, this would be better fitted for the Android lounge
its ultra stupid , miscellaneous differences if ur not gaming , buy some clothes for urself or somthin for ur girl(cough android phone cough)
unwise... much worst, upgrade? better think downgrade, Desire it always be a Desire, your HD2 could be what ever you want... think wise.
Thats my advise.
desire hd uses the new snapdragon processer so i say go for it, i sure would.

processor is still 1ghz, difference in performance is most likely base on marginal differences between the architecture between the hd2 8250 and the new desire chip, most likely though, differences are very negligible.
I say just use the desire hd build for a while. m-deejay's one is quite good right now, especially with the hasterin 7.6 and the newest libhtc_ril_wrapper.so and save some money.

ok . i really think you should read my post as it might be really helpfull for you.
i also had an HD2. Tmobile version " even tho i dont live in US but i wanted the extra rom "
however, i sold it for Galaxy S. mainly for :
- i wanted better screen. the HD2 screen is perfect size. better than 4 inch screen the galaxy S " for my own taste anyway "
however. the HD2 colors are really lacking. did you try the roms available in the HD2 ? some of the widgets like google voice command. youtube, facebook etc really look like ****. the colors of the device as far as i have been told is 65k only.
even some of the wallpapers you see stupid haze of different colors in between the wallpaper {pics} because the HD2 color lacking wasnt able to mix the 2 colors in between.
the Desire HD. doesnt have this problem. the colors are in millions.
also. with all respect to HD2 devs out there. cooked rom is a cooked rom. it will never be perfect. and 3 mins booting every time you restart the phone is ****ty.
HD2 are for owners who want to try Android before they buy it.
but if you come to love an android OS. u will need a native machine to run one.
i do agree that 250$ is alot of money. and you would want to think twice before you spend this money.
to be honest between my HD2 and Galaxy S was only 130$ i paid . thats why i went for it.
but since your asking if its worth it or not. it means you really into mobile phones and new tech just like me and many others here. and when you see the Desire HD in your hand you wont resist.
go for whatever your heart desire man. life is too short not to have fun with things u like. its not like your gona die because u spent 250$ on something u like.
one more thing.
i think u should hold on buying Desire HD for while. it seems most units have a defective problems. sensor etc. whatever HTC issue a recall or release a software upgrade, you should wait.
Havent you seen the threads around the net waning ppl that the phone is malfunctioning, what is a phone when you can't properly call with it..

the performance difference is not marginal. its around 1.5 faster. dont let stupid 1Gig number fool you.
HTC G2 is 800Ghz and it destroy the nexus 1 and Desire 1 Ghz. why ?
however. the base of the android software development is nexus 1 "google actually give you a free nexus 1 phone to develop if you are a developer "
so with nexus 1 as a standard. it will be almost impossible to find a game / app that use Galaxy S, Desire HD, G2, whatever super phone available " right now "
so aside from less lagging while scrolling. lil faster fps during games, faster booting etc. he wont tell the difference.
its not a jump from G1 to Nexus1 .
I got offered a Desire HD on contract the other day, and I was tempted but declined (mainly as they wanted £35 a month and I'm not paying that much for a phone over two years).
I asked to play with one and it was nice software wise, I prefer the feel of my HD2 in my hands tho. I use the MDeeJay FroyoHD build and software wise I really couldn't see much difference.
I love the fact that I've got a 4.3" screen and if I were to upgrade to an Android native phone it would definitely be the DesHD, but not right now with so many possibilities coming up for the HD2. You won't be able to run WP7 or MeeGo on the DesHD.
As for the comment about the screen only being 65K colours... Microsoft themselves say it's a 262K colour screen here ok so it's not the 16M colours of the DesHD, but it works perfectly for me.

65k or 256 is not much of difference.
also
i am sorry but how can you say its perfect when half of the wallpapers look like **** ?
when you try to click on the voice command in the google widget and an ugly pop up of black get in ur face and tell u " hi say i am ugly "
or when you download the facebook widget and you see the white level is not the same with weird ugly difference in color ? or youtube ? or any gray solid wallpaper in the background ?
any picuter that is rendered using " millions " colors. will look bad at HD2.
thats a fact.
now. is it worth to upgrade? up to u. are you happy with ur phone ? up to u.
but dont compare both phones as if they are the same when they are not

It's perfect for me because 1: my wallpapers don't look **** (why do you have to resort to swearing to try and get your point across?) I have noticed one tiny part of banding on one wallpaper I made myself but it also colour bands on my laptop so no biggy, and 2: everything that I use my phone for (calling, texting, internet, market, games, DLNA, music, satnav, msn, appointment reminders, emails) work perfectly on my current build. I use my phone probably about 6 hours out of my working day and 2-3 when I'm at home if I'm not with my gf and I get no errors, no force-closes, no times when I think "I wish I'd never bothered". If you're not happy with Android on your HD2, don't run it and don't complain.
The things that don't work for me are:
Youtube: I have a laptop and a desktop for this so don't care that it doesn't work
Camera: That's not the devs fault and I own several digicams anyway
And that's it as far as I'm aware.

1- you are right about its perfect for you. so i edited my msg. you can have a htc magic and it can be perfect u. for that i am sorry.
2- i am not cussing to make a point. and if you think saying the word "****" to an object is cussing. then you need to go out more. no hard feelings.
3- no one said the phone cant run Android very well. it runs perfect. i am sorry but where did i complain about the HD2 being flawed aside from the fact it screen is bad and it takes 2 mins to boot ? i am a new owner of samsung galaxy and i already hate the fact i cant switch roms from Desire HD / HTC G2 etc like i used to do with HTC HD2. there are many things HD2 have nice things in it.
dont read my posts as a challenge to you or your phone :/

It really did sound like you were trying to slam the HD2 as the capable device it is. (I remember when the Magic came out, trust me that phone is perfect for no-one lol)
I honestly don't think it's a bad screen. Yes it has a minor limitation, every phone has something that's less than perfect. You learn to live with it as there are no perfect phones out there. I am being honest tho when I say I notice no banding on almost all wallpapers, pictures, games or anything else I use on my phone so it's never been an issue to me.
Anyway, think the OP wanted a pretty direct comparison between the two phones, which he's had a few of. Let's let someone else give their opinions.

You, by your own admission, don't even have an HD2 anymore. Go and troll in the Samsung forums
What if the upgrade cost is 150$ from HD2 to Desire HD ? Go for it ?
I love the HD2 but I am sick of following updates on new ROM developments and all that, I just want it to work now.
