An interview with an android developer. MAXISMA

Hi guys and gals, first I'll introduce myself properly. My name is Chris, I'm 22 and live near leeds in england. I'm currently setting up a small blog interviewing android developers to give the general public a little look into the life of a developer. My aim is to try and help people realise that developers however great or small have a life beyond programming. It will also help advertise work created by some of the lesser known devs out there.
Currently I have only interviewed one developer and am uploading that at some point today, but I do have a list of others I intend to speak with.
I've even had a suggestion from one of those developers to interview an XDA moderator, to show you guys how much junk they have to put up with and clean on a regular basis to help give you the nice friendly happy community we have now. (Mikey, your name was mentioned but any mod can participate)
So without further ado, the blog address is interviewing-devs.blogspot.com
As a comic twist to the whole thing, I intend to do the whole thing from my G1 which is proving a little complicated as I seem to be getting a few FC errors with androblogger, and the blogger website looks a little funky on the G1.
As a quick note, there is no profit to be made by myself doing this, but I will be placing donation links for each developer interviewed.
So, if you're a dev and want to join in, let me know. If you know a dev and would like to see an interview, let them know about me and get them to contact me
Code:
Interview with Maxisma online now
Many thanks to all the devs on my list so far for making this whole thing possible, and also a huge thanks to everybody here for having a community worth joining.
You should interview the Wrecking Crew to show what we have to put up with too.

Mornin I sent you a shout out in another post. It looks like it's gonna be me and you and codini today. Gridlock told me he ain't gonna be on til like 8 tonight. I think he just don't want to get flamed like friday.
Interviewing devs is nice but if you want to catch the entire view of the G1 hacking/modding/rooting whatever term you want to use world. Then you need the point of view from new users, seniors, and devs. Remember devs don't deal with problems unless the problem effects alot of people and is verified by themselves or people he trusts. Also there wouldn't be an interest in a dev's interview without the masses following his work. Get those interviews first so you can ask the correct, hard hitting questions to the devs.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm at work at the moment but once I get home, Maxisma's interview will be posted, and I'll move onto another dev. At the moment probably the biggest names I have are Cyanogen and manup456. I did ask haykuro but he hasn't got back to me, and I'm still asking other devs.
Your constructive critisism is greatly appreciated, and ideas taken on board
Ladies and Gents, the second interview is underway, and you're all going to be surprised at who I'm speaking to. Keep watching this space for more news. Hopefully I'll get everything asked and answered before Monday, but due to a time difference of several hours there may be a delay, just depends if my dev and I can get online at the same time.
But anyway, provided everything goes well, it should be finished by Monday for your reading pleasure.
If you have any questions you wish to ask a dev not already interviewed, let me know and I'll add it to my list

[Tip] Don't ask for ETAs when it comes to popular custom ROMs.

Hi guys, me again, and after a bit of trolling through the general sub-forum of the G2DZ questions. One redundant thread I saw page after page after page is "When's the next version of (insert ROM here) coming out?"
I'd like to do the entire community a favor, and I'd like to give a public service announcement to all of the people here on xda-developers.
Developers of ROMs such as CyanogenMod are always working on the next release to make it better than the last. Please do the developers a favour and DO NOT ASK FOR an ETA. (Coincidentally, the only rule of CM is "Don't ask for ETAs")
Why? Well the developers are always at work creating updates to your favorite ROMs and when you ask for an ETA, you're really taking time away from their busy schedule just to quell your questions and such. I actually know because a close friend of mine is one of the developers of the much touted CyanogenMod ROM, and he along with the rest of the dev team get annoyed when people ask for an ETA.
If you're really impatient on waiting for the next release candidate or stable release, just flash a nightly build (ROMs that are compiled/built in quite literally one night and are released in less than a week) if you can. I've done so myself, and the last several nightly builds of CM7 have been better than the stable release.
Thank you for your time

[DISCUSSION] Android 4.0.3 AOSP ICS (ALPHA)Discussion Thread

Hey guys any questions and discussions you want to have keep them here.
Any questions you need to ask or any conversations that you want to have between each other leave it here and let Airbus360 do his work on his thread.
If mods feel this is a pointless thread by all means then go ahead and close it but rather than having hundred of posts and loads of pages of the same thing being asked over and over again in the Development section might as well keep it here where it is a General discussion thread and forum.
If anyone feels that there should be more info on this post feel free to let me know.
Thanks
The number of "I'll clean the forums by creating a grouping-thread and be a hero" is pretty high nowadays. I wonder what kind of threads should I start grouping .
"If you have problems with your telephone, post here!"
Don't mind me, just carry on!

Don't be silly, it's a nice thread, really! I'm just lost a bit with all these discussions threads about ICS releases and updates and leaks and development threads, don't know which one is which.

Well all honesty i am kinda lost as well. Hence why i thought i make this one and try and keep up to date with everything that is going on..
What really surprises me is that people forget that all builds that are out are alpha builds and not stable...i am still on my Gingerbread rom and still loving it as it is solid and stable....Why people get so excited about an alpha is beyond me...
The real buzz will be when devs will have actual sources to be able to upgrade their roms to ICS level..That is when all the fun really should be starting not now
Hate
I wouldn't release anything if I was Airbus. After all the mud thrown on the other thread, sadly by other more "experienced" devs I wouldn't be surprised if he just cancelled the thread n disappeared.
I would.
To me it screams of jealousy on what Airbus has achieved the fact that people like Codeworkx and Paradoxxx are slamming him and all of a sudden made a complete u-turn on their earlier statement that they would release nothing until they had a stable build of CM9.
Airbus is trying to make a rom from scratch with inadequate tools, and he's not experienced. I think he's doing the best he can with the tools at his disposal.
I don't understand why so many people have their "panties in a wad" over Ice Cream Sandwich... I have been patiently trolling these forums and anxiously awaiting the day that a stable release is made. ANYthing made by a developer (that isn't garbage) I am thankful for, after all developers could say **** it and not give us anything. This rom was only released to help subdue those who are flaming over the release of CM9 anyhow...

good valid point...i am waiting for a stable version as well..and all honesty i might just wait for the stable official release itself from Samsung..As long as my phone works great as it is at the moment i am happy with that. If a stable leak comes first though and developers like Pulser, Checkrom team and Hyperdroid can get their hands on it then certainly that would be worth the jump. But at this moment of time when people are having a moan on someone who is trying to tweak a build that is already out and modify it to the way he wants that is disrespectful to him as he is not holding a gun to anyones head really and asking neither for help or money...
and last point people really need to chill out...more important stuff in life than a rom
I don't think that's a nice idea to put another thread on ICS.
Dev become more and more arrogant, people more and more stupid.
So why do you open this one? We already now the situation.
Forget about ICS, wait for a new firmware annoucement and then see if the new one is stable enought. If not, then forget again and repeat.
That thread is full of lulz, the dev should stop baiting users the way he's doing now.

[i9001][NEWS] ICS for GT-I9001 finally coming!

So SGS+ won the ICS -poll on facebook. And DroidXDA promised to port ICS for our device. I am so glad there's finally some progress. I'll post the news here so don't be afraid to subscribe this thread
And remember to support the team by clicking the "ads by nuffnang" on their website: DroidXDA Blogspot

Its not on the blog... its on their Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/DroidXDA)
Really looking forward to the port...
IMO no need to open 100 threads about the same subject, and definitely not with such promising/euphoric titles. zack is still working on it and either he or FaqihCici will surely open a dev thread as soon an initial version release is available.
-dedlxe
gonna build a kernel to test ICS for myself to see how it handles what is different beside CPU?

So let me put this straight. We don't even have a dedicated subforum and now you are denying us even a single topic (which will be lost anyway) ?
Sent from my GT-I9001 using XDA App
Looking forward on this. Hopefully it will be stable.
Any news ?
I dont think here will come anything useable...
Still, if it would work would be best
I feel like they just want to generate clicks on their ads.
Everyday I am reading preannouncemen. Mh, I clicked so often on those ads really thought they would try to make something happen.
value pack released
There is nothing much exciting. Samsung released a value pack for i9001. Installation instruction can be found in this very own forum.
Same crapWiz UI and additional face detection added.

**** [Petition + Poll] ICS Sources for Xperia PLAY **** NO COMPLAINING

I would like to start a petition for Sony to release the latest sources for Xperia PLAY to the community. I am disappointed by the news but I completely understand and agree. The gamepad is the major reason for this phone and by developers not updating their games to ICS caused all sorts of stability issues.
So I figure for now lets see if we can get the sources and let the XDA devs have a grand old time picking it apart and seeing what awesome goodness they can do with it!
ICS is nice eye candy and I for one found better results on GB then ICS, probably becuase I am on CDMA. But still I would love for everyone to have the option of using some custom ROMs sourced from the latest sources. Everyone who is game (pun) please sign below if you agree. And PLEASE DO NOT COMPLAIN ON THIS THREAD. This thread is about looking positive, moving on and hoping for the best. This phone is still awesome an I still absolutely love my device.
Also there is a poll, choose whether or not you want the sources.
So again.................
*****PLEASE DO NOT COMPLAIN ON THIS THREAD*****
***Just noticed right before i finished this post there was another post for a petition, did not mean to make a double post, but this post also has a POLL. Everyone please use the POLL in addition to signing below. Thank you****
As SuperNoodles2011 has made a poll on the Official Sony Forum. (Thank you SuperNoodles2011)
talk.sonymobile.com/thread/38157?tstart=0
ANY POST THAT IS NEGATIVE TOWARDS SONY WILL BE DELETED AND YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED BY A MOD, THIS THREAD IS FOR ASKING SONY TO RELEASE THE SOURCES IN A POSITIVE WAY, NEGATIVE COMMENTS WILL NOT MOTIVATE SONY TO WANT TO HELP
Sony, thank you for your efforts with ICS for our phone. I would like to respectfully request though that the latest ICS sources be released to the Android community to let those who choose to conitnue with, that they may do so.
And if possible, allow us to help you find a solution to improve overall user experience, and push for a later ICS release.
i made a thread about this already but its np but inside my post is a link to a request on the official sony forums so feel free to take the link from that and post it in this thread and also write on that post saying you want it

Thank you....
sony please release the sources for the community here
if sources would be released i am sure that developers could release a better Rom then sony themself since sony puts so much BS on their Stock rom that not nessacry
IMO If we won't get the official update, I think Sony must give us a chance between stay in the latest official Gingerbread rom or install an official custom ICS rom under our own risk.
I want them to release the sources too! I understand their decision but at least they should give us their latest sources
I understand Sony's decision and thank them for giving us a Beta to test ICS on our devices. But I would love to see what xda-developers could do with our phone having the latest source code.
SONY: If you want to give up then it's fine, Just give us the latest sources as I hope there was some progress made after the beta was released. We have some great Devs that can do a lot with whatever has been done so far. As you may know this is a major disappointment to the Xperia play owners so at least give us a shot. It's really not too much to ask.
cyrusalmighty said:

in theory they MUST have some newer ROM for possible bug fixes they have tryed so lets hope we get it
the only reason sony gave us the beta was to confirm what they already thought: ICS on the PLAY is too much effort.
Give us the source code (especially for the touchpads). Open source means open source
i found this rather interesting this post
http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/197288#197288
States that not only will ALL 2011 xperia phones get ICS but they "PROMISE" we will get it
so as they cant promise us a working ICS lets hope we get the latest Rom source

my point exactly ... i dont care about the gaming aspect of my phone anymore i hardly use it for that.. and i cant afford a new phone with the same kind or performance or even better :/ i hope they honor there customers i really do
Meanwhile if everyone could use the link in the first post to make your views on it and help show sony we need the ROMS brought here id appreciate it ALOT
I also would like Sony to release the sources for their ICS implementation, assuming they'll refuse to release an official ROM. But I'm not holding my breath. Sony isn't exactly the most open company out there (when Ericsson's share was bought out, I immediately knew I made a mistake having bought this phone).
Well, live and learn [and don't buy Sony].
