I currently have the Touch (Elf) which I really like. However, I am desparately wanting the Touch HD and wonder if the benefits of upgrading are worth the hundreds and hundreds of dollars. I'm sure everyone will say it is definitely worth it but, let's face it, the THD is not a cheap device. Also, what is the life expectancy of all of these devices?
its expensive, but once you've used one, you'll never go back to what you had before, especially coming from a 2.8''.
I had a 8525 before, and bought the HD as a replacement, but really had a hard time justifying the price in my mind, but after that big beautiful screen and how much improved the experience is, there is no way i could go back to the 8525 or any other qvga device again.
It's worth it and the price is coming down...keep checking the xda marketplace or ebay for used ones!
it is nice, charming and irresistible... if u hav the $$, buy..

Is it worth it? Or should I look into a more recent models? Do they have any problems I should look at when buying (like loose screen)?
If you want to buy a new one you can try it here.

That's insane. They are sold around 200-250 euros used. That's why I'm asking is it worth it?
75 quid and u can have mine

Where are you looking for one?
In Germany you get one for around 150€ if you keep an eye on it.
As you would expect it the hinges of the display are a weakness. The open-close one is a bit loose in most cases and to fix this the device has to be taken apart a bit. But even owners of brand new devices often have that problem after some months and I've never heard of broken hinge until now.
The rotation hinge also gets loose but in most cases you just need to retighten the screws at the bottom of the display. So this is no real problem.
Most of the time the batteries of used devices are not in best shape. Consider to get a new one, especially if the device "randomly" shuts down.
Whether the Uni is worth it's price depends on what you want. To me keyboard and VGA display were essential, so except for the Athena there wasn't left much on the market.
I am thinking of getting a 2nd hand HTC HD2 still with warranty for about $440 USD. Its in good condition with all standard accessories and never been modified. Its factory-unlocked and is not the carrier-modified models, but the standard HTC HD2. Worth getting it to replace my current phone? My current phone is a Garmin-Asus Nuvifone M10. What do you people think of the pricing?
A quick check on eBay shows the Euro version HD2s go for around $400 in mint condition, so I'd imagine you're on the high end of what you should be paying, especially if it's a local sale.
The M10 is also a WinMo device, so you know what you're getting yourself into with the HD2. I haven't used the M10 before, so I can't directly comment; however, I have used a Touch Pro 2 extensively in the past, and without a doubt, I much prefer the experience with the HD2. The capacitive display is a big bonus and performance is significantly better than with the TP2.
The only thing that is keeping me from selling this blackstone is the potential of an android rom and my parents might not let me sell it. I’m 16 and got it 2nd hand but it’s in a fairly good condition.
I’ve searched around and it looks like I can get around £90 for the phone, do any of you want to buy it or know anyone who does? Also I’ve flashed it to an energy rom so if I was to sell it would I have to change it back to original windows rom!
Wish htc built blackstone with android not windows!
This might not help you any, but last night I discovered that NewEgg.com is now offering credit if you trade in electronics. They listed my HD as $144 USD. Considering how much I shop from their site I'm highly tempted!
My poor HD has been sitting in a drawer talking with dust bunnies since I got a Captivate. Must be lonely in there.
Hi all. I'm asking for the expert opinion of all the xda ogs. I bought an HD2 about 5 months ago off ebay for almost full price. And now it won't start (I tried everything). Sent it to htc repair center in Texas.
Now my question is: If it costs more than 150 to repair the phone, I'll probably just buy a new one instead of repairing it to have better peace of mind. Should I get another HD2, this time brand new from amazon for 299, or should I get an HTC sensation for abouit 540?
I really don't see myself using the dual core cpu that much, but the higher megapixel camera would be much more badass, and I do take alot of pictures.
Any productive opinions are welcome.
You say your HD2 will not start, so did it just start this or were you flashing something and it did this after the flash? If so what were you flashing? I ask this cause it sounds like you have bricked your HD2 and that is fixable for a third of the 150 dollars you suggested.
Now as for your Sensation question I don't really have any advice for you as I am currently wrestling with what device to upgrade too myself. And the Sensation is like one of the top devices I am looking at.

I have the same question...my HD2 is also gone for repair and I was thinking of selling it..once I get it back...but the problem is HD2 still allows you to do so much...there is no other phone like it quite yet...there is also possibility of DFT still releasing new version of MAGLDR for wp7 mango which you never know, it maybe good enough for daily driver...
I'm in same dilema...still not decided though
However, instead of sensation I was thinking of buying TMO G2X (LG optimus 2x)...You can get a new one for ~ $350-400 on eBay compared to sensation which is almost $500-600 now...
Compared to sensation it has better camera and no death grip issues, while you lose out on High res screen and Sense UI (which is quite good in its 3rd installment but i think I can manage with cm7, as I was using that on my hd2)
blah, seems like the Sensation has way too many issues right now. I wouldn't be able to stand having dust underneath my screen. Or death grip.
At 299 right now, the HD2 seems like the best value. 4.3 inch screen, and I could flash a new rom every week if I wanted.
What I really want is the samsung S2 of course, but it's still almost 700 on amazon.
I just wish they had another phone for about 300 with a bigger screen (I prefer 5 inch lol) and a better camera.
Best advice of all is to wait if I can. Prices will drop quickly, and maybe the next batch of sensations will be better built.
I'm due an upgrade next month (or if O2 won't match/beat Vodafone's tarriffs it'll be in 4 months when I jump ship) and so far the Sensation is the only thing that appeals to me.
Tried one out in CPWH yesterday and was impressed, no lag, no stutters.
That's a UK based version though, and from what people say about the phones over in the US, your carriers add a load of bloat that can affect performance.
My HD2 will go to my fiancee to replace my old HD.
I will miss the ability to make calls without having to go to the home screen, but I'll get used to it.

HTC Sensations and LG 2X have already sold in Jakarta.
Next week, 23 July, Samsung will launch Galaxy S2 at Pacific Place, Jakarta, with the special price starting from Rp4.1 Mio (USD 500 - 600)
I think it is reasonable price, considering the specs
I remember that I bought HTC Touch HD (Blackstone) at Rp10.5 mio (USD1.100) when it was launched
I heard that Sensation has a death grip issue. So, You might consider waiting till the price of Galaxy S2 drop
Cheers
If you still want to stay with HTC and don't mind a single-core phone, there's always the Desire HD. Same sized screen, but more RAM (same as Sensation but less than SGS2) and newer generation of Snapdragon. It also has a 8MP sensor but I don't know how that compares to the one on the Sensation. It's also about $100 cheaper too. I see one right now that is actually the Inspire 4G but it is unlocked and that is like only $400. I would buy that buy I think my HD2 will last me maybe until the end of this year and then I might move on to Virgin Mobile or something and keep the HD2 as a test phone and for traveling.

Man, you can pick up hd2s for less than 200 on Craigslist... why would you spend 150 on a repair?
even sensations go for 350 max... flippin' eck...

Sensation is far superior to g2x, trust me on this, I've owned both...HD2 is still the most enjoyable experience to be had..
I am really big fan of HTC HD2, but I still get tired with my old Omnia i900. Yesterday searching the Internet I found HD2 in very strange price - 567 PLN (about 185 USD). And my question is: should I try and buy this one or look for any more expensive? Should I trust this seller?
As device is 4yrs old that price is possible for old stock, I buy them around 90USD for 100% working clean examples with void stickers still present ...
Hm... I forgot to write it's completely new. So it is really, really strange.
I can buy new old stock for about same here in Thailand, seems about right to me. At HD2s age you get no HTC warranty & it is old hat hardware by today's standard, they need clear them & HD2 demand is not so high these days so prices have fallen.
So do you think I should buy this one?
No idea as not seen the retailers details, if has some form of buyer protection & return policy then might be worth it as buying used HD2's is only good if can be hands on with device prior to purchase as eBay etc are full of the sh1te used devices.
I sure would not want spend more on a new old stock 4yr old handset with known digitiser & bga failings.

I am not recommended you to buy this. Because i think it also old. You did not get same version from old version...
You'll try to buy an used item on ebay.. it's an old funny phone.. but I bought a Nexus 4 for that price!
great post

i am wondering anybody is still using this device today
I have still 2 HTC HD2 at home.
At the one the screen is broken and in the other the mainboard seems to have a problem.
Actually i wanted to join them. But since i have a Moto G, the HD2 is nearly completly out of my Head.
But i had really nice 4 years with this device.
Do you really want to spend this much money on such a old device?
I don't know. I would really recommend you not to do that.
If you are a dev, then it is maybe ok, but as a simple user...?
I think the times are nearly over or not? But if your money is falling out of your pocket
As i said did not follow HD2 since 5 months. I would reccomend you to buy a Brand new Moto G.
Google converted middel class Hardware phones to low class price phones. Excellent!
looks like a used phone to me.
