Anyone help with changing the splash screen - Touch 3G General

I've been trying to change the splash screen on my jade and have managed to make an nbh file and flash it with the customRUU.
the splash screen has changed but seems to 'cut off' near the bottom where the boot info comes up and shows some of the old splash screen under the info.
Its really wierd I'm sure my image is the right size (I've used several stock ones from this forum)
I'd really like to know where I'm going wrong.
Cheers

Anyone?

the annoying orange
Hi Welshbloke70
I too would like to change (the annoying orange) splash screen on my Jade.
I presume you are talking about the very first splash that appears on start-up?
I’ve successfully done this on a herm200 but you know how things can be different!
Can you explain what steps you took and I’ll try the same on mine to see if we get the same result?
Cheers

Well I flashed the HTC stock ROM and thats changed it.
The stock ROM works well for me so I'm pretty happy, and I guess that the splash screen is changed for good.

Orange splash
Hi Welshbloke
Can you tell me if the stock ROM is available here? If so can you provide the link or version?
Cheers

Hello,
all you need is a GIF file 240 x 320 Pixels in size.
Place the file in \windows folder.
You might need to use the Total commander to place this file as otherwise you'll get write protection error.
Soft reset after replacing the file.

If you're talking about the HTC screen splash ...
on my set it's this file - animated.gif (240 x 320 pix, 46.1 kb) in \windows.

how do i enable and chamge the animated.gif? and disable the splashscreen?

AFAIK... Get any gif file (animated or not) of your choice, edit/resize it to be of the same pix size with animated.gif (240 x 320), save it as "animated.gif", dump it into \windows. Softreset. Rem to keep the default file, just in case.

Only to tell: I do not have the file "animated.gif" on my phone.
But I do not want to change my splash-screen, so it does not matter for me.

Trying to understand better ..
After you dump the new file and softreset, when you boot up, what happened ?
Does the splash screen still show the default animated gif ? or No animation at all ?

how to remove windows spash screen with new qtek rom?

i'm using the latest qtek rom but am unable to reomove the second splash screen that shows the windows mobile. managed to changed the first one containin the qtek logo though using buzz's programme.
is there any way to get rid of the windows mobile splash?
Sure, no problem !
Just find any picture (jpg, bmp, gif).
Resize it to 480/640
Convert it with a graphics program (such as irfanview) to a .png file.
Rename this file to welcomehead.192
Copy that file to your /windows directory on the ppc
Softreset.
Voilà. You're done.
Cheers
hrb
actually, the picture needs to be 640x640 because it will be used both in Portrait and Landscape mode.
do you guys have the original welcomehead.192? i sorta deleted it without making a backup. would appreciate any help on this.
you cannot delete it, it is in ROM. As soon as you delete your own creation, the original file will magically reappear.
oh i see. thanks a lot for the input. managed to get it back to mess with it some more
Can I rip the original Qtek splash, so I can take it as welcomehead.192?

Changing the First Splash Screen on 2.24 ROM

The standard programs -- wizSplash and splash_bmp_to_wizard -- produce an error message (ITWRITEDISK). Does anyone know how to change the first splash screen? (I'm using Xelencin's wonder T-Mobile customized version.)
I can change the second splash screen simply by dropping the appropriately sized 320 X 240 24bit png file named welcomehead.96.png in the /Windows directory. But I would like to change the T-Mobile first screen, too.
i am super new in these
but i tried like you described, nothing changed after a reset.
Works for me.
just convert your image in PNG format 24bit.
write the file name: welcomehead.96.png
do not forget the . between 96.
rotate the image and resize it to 320*240 EXACT size. you may need to change aspect ratio.
Then place the file on your storage card and from the storage card copy it or move it to the root windows directory.
Soft reset and enjoy.
damnation
i did it, as i read it, but there is still the beermug my adminfriend put when he changed the device from russian to english. blyadstvo.

i will try further

Hi mate
are you saying i can change my tmobile splash screen to anything else..using your method?
do i need any special software or can i just change the image size etc then place it in the windows directory?
Thanks
Second splash screen
This procedure -- welcomehead.96.png -- replaces the second splash screen, which on my MDA says "Windows Mobile." You can replace that by pasting the right kind of file -- a png, 24 bit, 240 X 360 -- over the existing file. I used explorer on activesync, and then just "Cntl V" to past the file. I couldn't delete the original (it is protected) but just replaced it this way. A hard reset would recover the original, but this procedure survives a soft reset.
Replacing the first splash screen is more complicated. There are threads (search for splash_bmp_to_wizard) that tell you how to do it, but they only seem to work on the older ROMs, at least they don't work for me.
To change the 1st Splash Screen download this file:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wizard/Splash_images/SplashScreenStuff.zip
There's a ReadMe in the zip file, with these tools I replaced my 1st SplashScreen.

ITWRITEDISK problem
Hello, I was waiting for a long time for a post like this. I still have a question. Does this package handle the write protection (the ITWRITEDISK error message) of the new ROMs ? If someone would be so kind to confirm, then I will try it right away. Thank you all.
That is the allegation
My understanding is that molski's strategy does get around the writedisk error, since that was the problem I encountered.
Please post how it goes, I haven't had time to do this and the value seems low, since the screen is only on for 18 seconds on my unit. Changing the second screen was much easier and lasts a lot longer.
SplashScreenStuff and Checksum Error
I followed the steps from the tutorial. I ended up with the boot screen that showed my custom splash screen image, BUT ... on top of it there was the message "Formatting BinFS" and then at the bottom "CHECKSUM ERROR" and it wouldn't boot further on. PLEASE, could someone who has done it provide some support? I'm trying to change the splashscreen ( I could update the splashscreen before, with some ROMs that didn't have that write protection) for months now. PLEASE could someone help ?
Has anbody got this to work on 2.26.10.2 wwe?
Thanks
CHECKSUM error
It seems I cannot get rid of this "Checksum Error" message. I extracted the splash screen from the newly created ".nbf" with "TyphoonNbfTool_04.exe" and checked it - it's the one that I want to load. The device gets stuck at boot time with the new splash screen. PLEASE, can someone help with this error message?
This works

How does it work?
Thank you for your reply. How does the splashes from this link work? I mean - can I change the splash screen with one I made or I have to use only the ones prepared by M. Faria?
His programs only install the splash screens illustrated there, I chose the bluish one. But there are also instructions on how to do your own.
Still cannot change splashscreen
I tried those ones, too, still I get the CHECKSUM ERROR message. I can reflash OK the device and it works OK, but any time I want to change the splashscreen with either LewCamino's or Faria's tool I get this message.
PLEASE HELP as I really don't know want to do any more. Thank you all!
I may have read the various tutorials wrong, because I have not been able to change the first (Tmo) screen in the 2.26 rom I am running.
Has anyone done this bootscreen change yet in the 2.26???
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi guys.i have made 2 splash screens which are ported from windows 7.but i added some notes with photoshop.2 sound files (xp startup and shutting down) are available in a zip file.hope to enjoy it
you can rename the picture name to welcomehead.png and put it in windows folder or you can install advanced configuration tool v3.3.use this app to change the the startup splashscreen, startup .WAV file and shutdown .WAV file (recommended)...
NOTE: Download "480.800 pictures.zip" if u wanna have the real 480.800 resolution...

Actually these are pretty cool, thanks!
Think you could also work on black-themed Windows 7 splashes and wallpaper?
Much appreciated.
can someone make this into a cab please.

Nice work there, inspired me to change my wallpaper, so I came up with this:
drhadr.qsb.cz/stuff/black_win.jpg
drhadr.qsb.cz/stuff/black_win.png
drhadr.qsb.cz/stuff/black_win2.png
Turned out to be slim and elegant as a bg too
If anyone wants to add there any text/label, do it or tell me and I'll put it in there

after a while i found out how to replace it, let me know if u tried the same steps.
renamed the png file to welcomehead.192.png and made another copy of it and named it welcomehead.png
in resco i set some options to show hidden files, then i just moved both of them inside.
i think one of them was unnecessary but... it worked so.. lol
so i did a bit more research, u just need the welcomehead.png
the one with 192 is for a carrier splash.
if u want to use the jpg (i'm guessing it's faster?? i don't really notice much difference), u can put it in there aswell and go into registry.. i think HKLM/software/microsoft/splash and just change the value of the name
@rouzbehali
can plz upload the zip file again, its corrupted
and i noticed that the wallpapers are not 800*480
could u plz make a version with this size
thanx alot man
its very nice
zip files are fixed
sound files are uploaded again, thanks for your comments
ok.I will make more splash screens

How do I get rid of the stupid Tmobile "stick together" screen at startup and "Goodbye" at shut down? No one has explained that yet. I downloaded and installed the advanced configuration tool and every time I point it to the pics in the zip file on my sdcard and reboot...nothing changes...
I need step by step instructions here...

Is there any way to also get a shutdown screen? There is only a starting up file in the zip. Also, what's the best way to try to install the welcome/shutdown splash? Through the advanced config app or otherwise? And lastly, which splash screen does this replace, the orange windows mobile one, the T-Mobile one, or both? Any responses would be helpful.
the skin/theme you have is fantastic, with the clock and slide bar on the bottom. Could you please tell me where you got it or did you make it yourself?

1)To remove animation, just disable the animation package (HTC animation)
2)To remove sound delete the HTC-QuietlyBrilliantBoot.wav file (in operator package folder) or replace it with a no sound file.
3)The images for the orange screen are inside the runcc package.Try to replace them with same size and resolution images.
Orange Windows Image is located in a couple different places...I guess you would have to search your kitchen to find exactly where it has put them, but in mine they are in:
SYS: Redist_dpi_192_resh_480_resv_800
OEM: OEMDrivers
EXT: RunCC_1_2_1_0
Search your kitchen for these names:
welcomehead.192
RunCC_default_bg_480_800
RunCC_default_bg_800_480
You may also want to change these items to match your replaced images
All runcc_progress-XX files located in runcc
All PB-X files located in oemdrivers

Task29 makes a format in your phone and clean all the files from previous roms.
Otherwise these files are cleaned only if you hard reset your fresh rom.
Thats why I think that previous files were not all deleted and thats why after you hardreseted your rom the picture is fine.

Well I just tried it and for me works fine.
I attach my photos to compare with yours.
You must take care the run cc photos to save them as progressively compressed.I done this with irfan view which is a free program.
Welcomehead.192.png is the first part of the runcc process and can be a different photo as you see in my files.
Welcomehead.192.png and Runcc files can be 480x800 and not only 800x800.
How do you mean, save as progressively compressed? Can you please tell me how I should save the files. The save options are quite advanced for some extensions...
Thanks

In Irfan view you open the image you want and when you click, >File, >Save as and you select the jpeg option, then the possibility to save the jpeg photo as >save as progressive jpg, arises.
I dont know if this is really needed but the original run cc files are saved this way.
