Hy
At home I have a Wifi , its manual IP config , No DHCP , works grate . Problem is that I dont know how must I configurate Xperia for supporting severall WifI conections with diferent settings on each one , diferent IPs and security settings .
THx for help .
On my ex - p990i was easy to make that work .
Wifi without DHCP isn't really thought of much these days. I suggest using DHCP and configuring static IP address lease, if static address is needed.
"wifi profiles" does what you want
it will allow you to create a shortcut to quickly activate wifi w/ specific network profiles. just create two shortcuts. one for work and one for home

Hi ..
I use GPRS on the run and BT over ActiveSync at home to access the internet on my Qtek s100.
Everytime I change it I must go in to the network settings..
Anyone know of a tool that sits in the lower bar that let me change it directly ..
If not.. anyone have a idea of a faster way to do it ??
Thanks .. Carlis
I never change the network settings, but instead go through the Active Sync application on your device. It has a Connect via Bluetooth option in the Tools menu.
This works for me.
Skip
Yeah .. I use that way .. but the problem is to select which network that used to reach internet ..
on def its YOUR ISP.. I have to change it to MY WORK NETWORK.
If I dont .. it connects with GPRS when I start Pocket iExplorer..
I want a shortcut on the homescreen (or lower bar utility) to:
Start /Settings /Connections /Connections / Select which networks are automatically used.
.. Carlis ..
I don't have to change my network settings, Active Sync seems to take care of this automagically.
My Magician only has one connection setup, which I call GPRS Connection. This is what it uses by default. When I'm connected to Active Sync, it seems traffic is automatically routed through it.
Skip
Hm .. that works for some apps .. others dont..
Anyone kan give me a tip here .. It should be nice if all net apps used the active network..
Make sure that in Activesync you have passthrough enabled when connected to internet
Activesync - Tools - Options - Passthrough ; make sure you select 'the internet'

PS: Nice fiddling around..
Hi Subzero5

Hi from a newbie. I've just bought the TyTn11 and would like to use bluetooth to access my laptop's internet connection. Part 1 of your instructions were easy enough to follow but part 2 confused the hell out of me - not least because I don't have a Network Cards icon from Start > Settings > Conections >. The TyTn is running WM6 if that's any help. Any pointers would be greatfully accepted
it's
Start > Settings > Conections > connections > adcanced > select network
pick the item in the dropdownbox which is not called something like my isp or such
usualy the 2th item
Thanks Rudegar, I'll give it a try.
Hi,
I'm trying to get Internet over bluetooth working on my TyTN with WM6.
I've got bluetooth network access point configured on my Linux PC so part 1 is done.
In part 2 I've successfuly configured IP and DNS for Bluetooth PAN driver but I can't find the option "Join a personal network" in my bluetooth settings.
Actually I'm stuck in part 2 point 6 as there is no <u>Bluetooth Manager</u> link under bluetooth settings.
Any advice?

also tryed something like Rudegar said but there is :
"select a modem" (cellular line, cellular line(gprs) , generic IrDA , hayes compatible on com1 ) , tryed with com1 but it asks user / password / domain ...
i just dont know what to do, help...
How about two pocket pc's?
I'd like to connect my bluetooth-enabled e800 through my hx4700,but there's no "connection sharing" that I can enable. Is it enabled automatically?
thankx mate for info but i have htc p3300 Start > Settings > Conections > connections > adcanced > select networkit show only ( 1 my work network)(2 my ISP)which i should connect????
Hi,
I can't find out how to access this on a HTC Touch (Elf). Can someone please help?
Thanks
SubZero,
I not sure if you're instructions are correct.
From you wiki page-
Part 2: Setting Up Your HTC:
1. Go to Start > Settings > Conections > Network Cards. This option doesn't exist!
2. Tap the adapter named Bletooth PAN User Driver. You will now see IP Address tab selected in the Settings.
3. Select Use server-assigned IP Address.
Could someone who has done it on thier HTC diamond please check this?
Thank You

for diamond you have to go settings/connections/Wi-fi/Network Cards tab
but after that the problem is part2 6/7.... there is no link named Bluetooth Manager....

If anyone know a third party tool allowing to do this
Hi,
Being a mobile device, it gets used in many places, with many WiFi networks.
Setting the various networking parameters involves opening several different setup screens and (often) fiddling around with entering IP addresses, proxies, etc.
Does anyone know of a utility that allows the easy setting of DHCP vs fixed IP, maybe DNS servers and proxy vs no proxy? And, perhaps more importantly, a utility that both does this and remembers the settings for the various networks, allowing a rapid setup on the second and later connections?
Regards,
Geoff.
Sad but am replying to my own message.
Am I the only one that regularly connects to networks with different parameters?
Am still hopeful that someone will know of a utility to store network parameters and allow same to be set with one tap - or someone clever will make such a utility??
Hi Geoff,
No you're not the only one.
Have you found something yet? I could do with the same!
Michael
Here's another vote for such a utility, i'd love to be able to use mine at hoem and work without having to dig through several menus to get there.
What about a CAB install with different settings..
Same here mate. I am looking into XML cab files, that modify your network card settings eg DHCP \ Fixed IP and also changing over the Wireless network settings, eg SSID, WEP Keys etc.
Its easy enough to create a shortcut to a CAB file, and one that just changes a few registry settings operates very quickly.
Yes, its a manual workaround.
Yes a application that detects the loss of one WIFI and attempts you connect the others in your device and then configures the WLan card accordingly (DHCP\Fixed IP etc) would be very handy.
No - I haven't got very far yet, I took the idea from another thread where someone used it to RESTORE their WIFI settings after a cold-reset.

hi,
thxx a lot!
can t believe there are no menu for conf static ip :'(
#whatafail!
no apps for that on a root device?
thxx for your help
rv
when you connect to the ap,there is a option.
settings wireless&networks wifi settings wifi networks
a little button appears when you hit the name of the network.
it s a option of the ipsetting ,
i am not sure whether you can find what i said, cause i am a chinese .
maybe there are something wrong with my words.
but,yes,you can set a static ip on a 500.
great!! thxx a lot, that was a hidden scroll menu in fact!
i gonna give it a try!
i see that menu before, but my router has opened dhcp.
so i never try to use it.
i guess it can work.
just have a try, good luck for you.
Hi
thx for your posts.in fact i ave dhcp on my dd-wrt repeater but android devices cant get an ip, workss perfectly with computer but not with android clients. maybe a dhcp issue.
i ve tried the static menu, didn t worked :-( try to force the connection without suceed.
what are u supposed to put in the field bdtween gatwy and 1st dns?
i left it blank.
thx for ur help
rv
you need check your computer to find out the gate and dns .
everyone has a different dns, cause we have different isp.
Hi
the prob are not gtwy n dns, between these 2 fields there is another one, seems to be “network length“ dunno what to put in.
can u try pls?
thxx
sorry,i don t know ....
i never use static ip with a500.
on computer , it just need set the ip gateway dns ,there is no length....
you have to fill the dns1 ,dns2 is a backup.
i will do some search about the network prefix length ,just wait.
well,i search it.
if your gateway is 255.0.0.0 the length is 8
255.255.0.0 16
255.255.255.0 24
you can try.
Thxx firdt time i see that kind of field in an ipconf
thxx
hi,
thxx a lot,
works with 24 .
quite weird, why not simply ask for network mask as usual...
here are some info about prefix length
http://www.gadgetwiz.com/network/netmask.html
thxx folks!
well,i made a mistake.
it depends on the mask ,not gateway.
I turned on wifi but was unable to access / change my IP to a static IP . I couldnt find the option under wifi - advanced as well. The new options allow me only to change my Signal Band (2.4gz/5gz) but not change my IP address or put a static IP.
Any thoughts?
It's right there
Press and hold your connected access point
Check Show advanced options
Click IP settings and change from DHCP to Static
Enter your IP/DNS
thanks i also had a problem but now i can enter my ip but the save button is unfortunately greyed out so stuck up in getting ip address can anyone help
ps: figured it out now working
thanks
saving of static IP is now per network instead of per wifi interface.
still not able to assign static ip

Is this also the case with proxy server? I have an Asus Transformer on ICS that allows me to save Proxy per access point, and I'm hoping the GNote will also do this on ICS.

Just checked myself, glad to see this!
Long press on the network you want to change, click 'Modify network config'
Then you need to change the 'IP settings' pull down box from DHCP to Static, otherwise the rest will remain greyed out.
Hope thats all clear.
I have had the same problem.
Wouldn't is be a better option to have your router reserve a specific IP address for the MAC address of your Note? That way you won't have to change the settings on your Note when you want to connect to a different network.

It would, but that's a bit too technical for most users, as it requires going into advanced settings of your router. Most people don't even know their routers IP address, let alone configure MAC-level access!
Also the default setting is for DHCP on all networks, so the user doesn't have to worry when connecting to any network.
In ICS, they have introduced the option of allowing different IP settings for each network. In previous android versions, you could only have 1 global setting that affected all networks.
I like to use a static IP on my home network, but every over network I connect to requires DHCP. So previously, I had to disable Static IP to access other networks (or use an app called Wifi static!).
It's no wonder I was confused 'Wifi static' was no longer working

With the long press stuff --> modify network and add the static IP, it seems not work for me. My phone is a samsung galaxy s3.
Do u think the phone need to be rooted to gain superior access privilegde?
And my setup network @home is ad-hoc. So cant reserve any ip on a router.
Kind regards
Takeur

if by "not work" you mean that you can't see an option to change from DHCP to static, it may simply be because the on-screen keyboard automatically appears at that setup page (so you can enter a password) and it obscures the options further down the page.
So, you need to:
1. long press on your connection to go into "modify network config"
2. press capacitive "back" key (or click "done") to reveal the bottom of the page
3. check the "show advanced" tick box
4. scroll down beyond the visible part of the page to get to DHCP setting.

here's my solution on my note ICS
1. long press wifi connection, enter your network password
2. change dhcp to static
3. fill ip address of your device
4. FILL NETWORK PREFIX OF YOUR STATIC WIFI NETWORK (NETWORK PREFIX is substitution of NETMASK ADDRESS (eg 255.255.255.255) see table here ttp://gabbtech.blogspot.com/2012/09/subnet-mask-address-dan-persamaannya.html
5. fill other requirement (gateway,dns,etc)
6. You should be able to click greyed out SAVE button now
