I think I dropped my Wing one too many times, or else it got wet in my pocket the other day, and now the directional pad randomly stays in the left position. It's annoying, because it cycles through menus and basically incapacitates my phone until I manage to jam down the d-pad in other directions and it stops. I looked at the disassembly manual for the Herald (couldn't find one specifically for the Wing) and it looks like a real pain to pop that sucker off, so does anyone know of a reg key or something to disable the pad entirely?

I'm sure when I first got the Wizard, a couple of ROM upgrades ago that it would turn on when I slid out the keyboard. This was great as it saved a slide AND a key press.
I haven't had this functionality for a while and am wondering what i need to do to get it back. Does anyone know?
Thanks.
I thought so too, but subsequent checking here showed that they have always behaved this way. Sliding out the kbd never activates from powersave mode.
I wonder if my original perception was because when I first got my 8125 I had a different backlight setting that turned off the backlight while still leaving it powered up. In this case, I believe sliding the kbd out will appear to activate.
i can also confirm that it doesn't wake it up
it uses a magnet to tell if the keyboard is open or not, but it never woke the device up
Does your keyboard light up when the screen is slid out? I could have sworn prior to a ROM upgrade that all the buttons would light up when sliding out the keyboard.
I've got a stock MDA Vario and the keys do not light up when asleep & slid open, and doesn't wake it up either.
How could that happen to me?
Two days ago there was a heavy rain shower and I left my beloved wizard in the outside pocket of my laptop case. I didn't realized that the rain was so heavy that the wizard got wet  When I took it out of the pocket the keyboard and the speaker were really wet. So I took out the battery, let it dry for some time and the good news is that it is starting up and running perfectly at first sight.
But now comes the strange & sad part
The conn manager key (key 5), the left softkey and the internet key (upper right key) are showing REALLY strange behavior. When I press them eighter the right softkey menu opens up (contacts, mail context menu, ect.) or it jumps to voice dial (normally key 4). That happens with all the three keys!
I thought it might be some dirt left by the water inside the wizard, so I opend it for cleaning (did that before, so I know what I was doing ), but everything looks all right and no sign of a water "damage". I noticed another strange thing during the tests: When I press one of the three keys the keyboard lights are turned on :?: That's not normal, or?! They aren't lighting up when pressing for example the camera key.
Really strange, does anyone has a good idea what might have gone wrong? Or does one of our experts has a tip how to fix it or what might be the cause?
Any help would be fine, because I would like to try to avoid to buy a Hermes for some more time :?
Thanks in advance,
Jago
P.S.: I just found out that the keyboard left and right softkey aren't working the way they should eighter. But all other keys seem to work like they should...

it's probably because the water shorted out those keys. I've spilled water on my PC's keyboard before and all the keys got garbled. Y's because O's and T's became S's. It seems to me like the same sort of thing.
You will need to let it completely dry out. I'm not sure if you problem will slowly go away or not if you keep using it, but the surefire way to fix a wet wizard is to let it sit someplace warm with the battery out for 3 weeks.....
Hi,
I've had my Hermes for about a month now. On about 4 occassions I've pulled the keyboard to use it and input will not be 'received' properly. It seems the Hermes gets stuck in a 'mode'.
Some of the keys work... like at the moment I clicked forward on an email, slid the keyboard out to start typing but the letters did not work. Pressing 'Return' activates the start menu, however.
I started pressing random things to get it work: I pressed the green phone button to get to the dialer, tapped the X for the dialer to get back to the email and now the keyboard is working again. Weird!
Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

If you can rule out software issues then there is a push on multi connector inside that may not be pressed in firmly!

I've had this problem sometimes. If I 'beat the phone' to it, or catch it mid-thought, as it were... Just have to be a bit slower with it. Seems that I slide the keyboard out before it has time to allocate the appropriate amount of CPU time to flipping the screen and initialising the hardware input, so it either takes a few presses for it to register, or it just gets stuck in keyboard-in mode, and I have to soft reset to make it work.
Happened on my old Hermes, not happened yet (touch wood) on my new replacement.
I'm having a strange problem with the hard and soft buttons on my phone.
I went to the park to take the kids to the pool yesterday. No, I didn't get within 100 feet of the pool with my phone. It was not placed anywhere wet and no one, as far as I can tell, got close enough to drip on it. It acts like it got water inside, but unless it somehow condensed from the air or from sweaty hands, I don't know how that could have occurred.
Anyways, I had set my phone up and when I picked it back up, it was like I kept pressing the messaging and IE buttons. Eventually letter keys on the keyboard like Q and E kept appearing as well. Every now and then it would work fine for a few minutes and then start up again. After leaving the phone out in the direct sun for awhile, it stopped doing that even as much but some of the keyboard keys and most of the soft keys seem not to want to work at all, neither do the two phone keys or the directional pad. Pressing the middle button on the directional pad causes the alignment screen to come up (???).
Making matters more confusing is the fact that on a couple of occasions when I did a soft reset the buttons would seem to function normally for a time. Most recently it happened last night when I went out to lunch. I had reset my phone and all of the buttons seemed to work fine again for several minutes. I got back from lunch and proceeded to browse the forums here. When I went back to my phone a bit later and had to wake it from standby, the issues returned. I have since flashed to a new ROM but have experienced no change in the symptoms and have not gotten the buttons to work with a reset since, though I've admittedly only tried a couple of times. When I tried doing a hard reset, it instead went to the bootloader screen.
So, yeah, I'm confused. It acts like it got moisture in it but I don't know how that could have happened unless it was just from my hand. In any case, trying to dry it doesn't seem to have helped. Does anybody have any ideas on this or am I buried? It's several months still before I can upgrade to a new phone at a discount with my provider and I really don't have the money to do so in any case. I can use the touch screen but, let's face it, the WM interface is a lot easier to navigate sometimes with the buttons. I'm holding out big hope for the WNAIP project to succeed here though. Of course, that's not to mention I can't play games like Tetris without a working directional pad.
Okay, it's pretty much gotten to the point where none of the physical buttons works, hard or soft, and even some of the kb buttons don't work.
Anyone?
My M700 (orange rom, new radio rom) is having problems with the buttons (or is it?)
Basically, I noticed things were happening without me pressing buttons, occasionally (like when Im in a phone call) it will flash up that I cannot put this call on hold (though I didnt try to)- or when I'm in GPS (TomTom) it occasionally goes back to the options screen without me pressing anything.
I also noticed that occasionally the scroll wheel wont work on the side, and if i press the memo button opposite, it goes to the "realign my screen" program (which happens when you press them both together) but then it works normally again
Finally the little directional pad at the bottom has stopped working sometimes (including the button in the middle, but not the buttons surrounding them ie ok, windows hang up, make a call etc) -
Anyway - it seems to me like either there is a software problem, or that one of the buttons is being activated continuously, possibly by dirt, which might explain the intermittent nature of the fault.
Does anybody have any similar experience?
And...
What should I do - look at potential software problems, or hardware - (Im thinking hardware) should I take it to bits and clean it?
Thanks for reading my lengthy post, and I really appreciate any help from anyone, especially from people who've had this problem and fixed it
Update (2 mins later)
Whilst examining my pda, I dropped it onto the floor, and everything started working again - I'm beginning to think that its the silver button in the middle of the direction pad that is causing the fault, as when I hold it on it has all the same effects -
So, if this is the case, does anyone have any ideas, how to clean it easily? (if it is a hardware problem that is- it lives in my pocket and get pretty dusty so it could be)
