yes thats the one
If you keep entering incorrect stroke patterns maybe five or six times, it will lock you out for thirty minutes. There will be an option to unlock by entering the gmail user/pass that was first used to set up the phone. That's one method.
The other method is more technical, and is described here:

I had the same issue over the weekend. However every time I entered my login credentials it would tell me the information was incorrect. I checked, and I double checked. I even logged in from my desktop, Nothing worked. I ended up having to do a wipe on the phone. I think it may have had something to do with me being on att. The network activity monitor didn't show any activity while trying to authenticate. IDK good luck.

Entering the google login credentials didn't work?
To wipe, turn the phone off completely (hold down the red button). Then hold down the home button (looks like a house) and press the red button. Keep holding down the home button until the G1 logo appears. In a moment the phone should reboot into the recovery screen. Open the keyboard. Press Alt+W to wipe the userdata. Wait about ten seconds, then press the home and back button simultaneously to reboot.

Is there any way to fix this?
The title of the thread threw me off, then I checked out the vid and realized you meant WIFI... Anyway, yours is the only phone that I've seen it not work on... so YOUR phone is a piece of ****, and you should call HTC and have them send you a new one.
Have you tried changing the routers wireless encryption method (WPA/WPA2). (Just a guess)
Only time it rebooted for me was when It was low on memory and I tried starting the camera app, it hung a few times then reset.

Yes. I even tried disabling SSID broadcast for my router.
Note that it doesn't even GET to scanning for access points. It just says "Unable to start Wifi" and then reboots.
Just reflash everything. The file is floating around xda.

Is this it? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614850
If so, doesn't that require rooting? Because if it does, voiding the warranty wouldn't exactly be the smartest thing to do right now...
Have you tried hard reset your Nexus One?
Please note that all data will be deleted from the Nexus One as a result of this procedure. This process does NOT delete data stored on the microSD card. We recommend backing up all of your personal data before proceeding.
1. Turn the power off. If your Nexus One is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
2. Hold the Volume Down button
3. Press and release the Power button
4. You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
5. Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
6. Press and release the Power button
7. Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO
If you selected YES, all data including third-party applications will be deleted from the device. Once the wipe is complete, the phone will reboot to factory fresh state.

I wouldn't do that. I would just send it back and get another. I wouldn't root it until you're sure it's working 100% before hand.

2. Press and hold both the Home and Back buttons simultaneously.
3. While continuing to hold the buttons, press the Power button.
4. Release Home and Back.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the hard reset.

Doesn't do anything. (Are you sure that isn't for the G1? Because I don't think the buttons are active if the phone is completely off...)
Besides, I'm already doing a hard reset via Volume Down + Power (see first 15 seconds of the video).
Here's a closeup picture: http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/6025/20100115210416.jpg
I even tried Settings -> Privacy -> Factory Data Reset. Wifi still broken.
Just get it replaced by HTC, the fact that your the only one posting this issue, sounds like a 1 off problem. These things happen, just sucks when it's you.

If it's an official signed image it will work on any Nexus One. The rooting allows unsigned images to be flashed. Signed (official) ones will always flash otherwise you'd need to root to install an OTA update, which would be insanity.

Had the same problem with my phone ( got s**t scared, I thought, I would have to go through the pain of returning), i just kept rebooting................ until 5-6 boots later it just fixed itself. Now it works perfect.

I don't get the chance to try it on *any* network.
- I press to turn on Wifi.
- 5 seconds later, "Unable to start Wifi".
- 5 seconds later, freeze.
- 5 seconds later, automatic reboot.
At no point do any networks even show up.
[Edit]: I've even tried unplugging the power from my router (ie completely off).
just call HTC

Your phone is definitely messed up, but just wanted to correct you. Volume down + power is NOT a hard reset. That's simply a soft reset or reboot. A hard reset is what we usually call a system wipe. You can either do that through the phone (Settings, then Privacy), or as someone suggested on bootup.
I put a visible pattern password one day on my phone for a few hours. I later on disabled it n forgot the pattern. Today I need to do a factory reset and its asking for the pattern!

If it were me, the only option you have is to reload the PD15IMG. But i'm sure there is a way to get into the phone and remove just the lock screen.apk via ADB but i don't know where it is stored or if it is possible.
Thanks but i FOUND THIS. Here's the FIX: remove and replace battery, but don't power on. Hold down Volume Up, Volume Down, and Power at the same time. When screen appears, let go of all. menu will appear. Select factory data reset using Vol up/down to move and power to choose. Select yes. It'll reset everything!

When you said you did a factory reset i thoughts that is what you did. a wipe via the hBoot screen.
Glad you got it hammered out none the less.
Just throwing this out there:
If you enter the wrong pattern on the lockscreen 5 times, a "forgot my password" option will appear and it will ask you to verify your Google account. This will let you access the phone again without pulling the battery.
Water got on my phone. Imediately turned it off. After a few days of drying out it turned on and booted up fine, but I powered it off just to be safe. Few days later wouldn't get past verizon logo. Any ideas?
how old is the phone? Does it carry any warranty at all?
I would try the C+B+ Power boot combination to try your luck if you dont care about losing the phone content.
Doesnt alter the OS nor image, so its just a cleaning.
May not improve your status if it's bricked, but it's faster than exchange for other (about 1 min).
The c b button combination shows me an image then flashes to the verizon logo where it is stuck
Pull out battery, hold power button for 20-30 secs.
Then try to boot.
If that doesnt work, try booting up holding "Backspace" "Enter" & "Search"
Did you ever get this working? I'm curious if it's still having problems, can you take it in to the Verizon store, or call their support, to walk you through getting it up and running?
The backspace, enter search combo worked! I am unable to get the wifi working though. Whenever I go to the wireless settings tab it just takes me back to the main screen. Any ideas?
Well that was short lived. Power cycled the phone a few times and having the same issue... Everything was working when it was on except the wifi...

Your welcome, no problem.
So your wifi isn't working eh? hmm...Take out your battery and clean the contacts with a rubber eraser. (on the ones on the phone itself) Then, put the battery back in and hold r + b then boot up the phone.
This will restore all user settings.
After you have done that, go to phone settings and click Erase Phone Data.
I know you have done that with the step explained above, but this will get it to work properly
Would not let me edit (not double post)

This will restore all user settings. ( i know this goes to the original kin mode but thats the point, but if your phone is incapable, then it will just erase your phone. After you have done the r+b combo, do it again then do the step below)

The phone is on right now, but i am scared to turn it off again. Since I am at work right now I will do the r+b combo when I get home in case it wont turn back on. Also what exactly is it that the backspace, enter, combo does?

The combination "gives more power" the the battery I suppose. I'm guessing it makes the phone turn on when it crashed. I used to know what it was for. I'll try to remember. It's going to be hard since no one else knew the combo. (well at least I think).
Good thing I didn't post this yet because I remember now. It's basically a "hidden" way to turn on the phone if it crashes with the "key". Key meaning the power button. I do not know the exact name for it.
As suggested, starting a new thread.
Hello,
Straight to the point, Rooted UK Atrix, running 2.3.4. no other MOD OR rom or anything, i like motoblur.
Stupidly Used Bloatfreezer to freeze 'home' without having another launcher to return to. Can't use the phone now. Trying to reset (hard or soft i do not know the difference) and the phone reads ''fastboot'' then i toggle down using volume - to android recovery and the phone is coming up with starting rsd protocol x2 and nothing else (using the power + & - methods).
If i leave my phone to just boot it resides on a white screen teasing me with noises of logging in but i cannot see anything.
I'm really lost to be honest, i have no idea what to do and i am not good with terminology either (adw, flashboots, cm7 i have no idea what they are).
I know there are sooo many threads with different answer's so that is why i am starting a new thread.
To factory reset using recovery...
1.Power off the phone, press and hold volume down button, press power button.
2.Screen will come up with "Fastboot", press Vol down key to cycle through choices until you get "Android Recovery", press Vol up key
3.Wait for the "triangle ! / Android" screen then release the volume down button
*4.Tap on bottom right corner of the screen (may take a few times). a menu will come up
5.Tap on "wipe data/factory reset", and press OK. Another Confirmation screen will come. Press Yes and OK
6.After userdata is cleared, the "reboot system now" option will be highlighted by Default. Press OK.
7.Phone will reboot to initial setup MOTOBLUR screen.
NOTE/If on Android 2.3.4 then replace step #4 with pressing both Volume buttons at the same time. Also, use the Power button to activate the highlighted option instead of looking for the OK.

Can you get to android market via your computer? If so go to it, log in, find a launcher and install to your phone. Once rebooted to the phone, it *should* give you a choice or just automatically choose the new launcher. What does double tapping your home button bring you too? I was able to find my alternative launcher by moving around via that.
sounds like ya have frozen system files
prolly be easyest to unlock bootloader and push a custom rom to it (they work better than stock anyway
Yes i did freeze the home app.
I really mean thanks to those replied. Unfortunately i have tried the first suggestion but it doesn't let me get to step 3 with the triangle, fast boot - android recovery - can't fast boot 2 etc can't get passed that.
i have just plugged it in the Laptop, taking sim out, and it has started! i thought it was broken!! but unfortunately not 'home' yet...
SO it is at the motoblur login screen, should i log in? press factory reset? Any suggestions?
I'm not sure how to push an app straight to phone so i can install a launcher...
we're nearly there guys!
In addition to what Robkort said a few posts up ^^^ to get into the recovery on 2.3.4 you may have to scroll down once you see fastboot, until you see "Android Recovery" and press vol up - when the android dude comes up, if tapping the bottom right corner doesnt get you into recovery, press BOTH volume buttons at the same time.
It is now up and working with me just simply plugging it in, running moto sync, logging in to market from laptop and sending the launcher app..
Wifi was enabled luckily before i froze home, so when i pressed log in it went 'error' then launcher pro just popped up so now i think i just unfreeze home, turn it off, put my sim in and fingers crossed..
wish me luck!
Yahooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
It's worrying how much happier i am now that i am back on top with my phone working. Pretty dependant we become!
All my widgets, and motoblur have gone, and some writing is in a different language :/ universal inbox is not there either.
Still Thanks for all the suggestions!
I suggest this thread should be 'FROZEN' or just stay open if anyone ever freezes 'home' without having another launcher installed.
I'm glad i didn't need to flash anything, put other ROMS on, hard reset losing everything, solved pretty simple luckily.
