Water got on my phone. Imediately turned it off. After a few days of drying out it turned on and booted up fine, but I powered it off just to be safe. Few days later wouldn't get past verizon logo. Any ideas?
how old is the phone? Does it carry any warranty at all?
I would try the C+B+ Power boot combination to try your luck if you dont care about losing the phone content.
Doesnt alter the OS nor image, so its just a cleaning.
May not improve your status if it's bricked, but it's faster than exchange for other (about 1 min).
The c b button combination shows me an image then flashes to the verizon logo where it is stuck
Pull out battery, hold power button for 20-30 secs.
Then try to boot.
If that doesnt work, try booting up holding "Backspace" "Enter" & "Search"
Did you ever get this working? I'm curious if it's still having problems, can you take it in to the Verizon store, or call their support, to walk you through getting it up and running?
The backspace, enter search combo worked! I am unable to get the wifi working though. Whenever I go to the wireless settings tab it just takes me back to the main screen. Any ideas?
Well that was short lived. Power cycled the phone a few times and having the same issue... Everything was working when it was on except the wifi...

Your welcome, no problem.
So your wifi isn't working eh? hmm...Take out your battery and clean the contacts with a rubber eraser. (on the ones on the phone itself) Then, put the battery back in and hold r + b then boot up the phone.
This will restore all user settings.
After you have done that, go to phone settings and click Erase Phone Data.
I know you have done that with the step explained above, but this will get it to work properly
Would not let me edit (not double post)

This will restore all user settings. ( i know this goes to the original kin mode but thats the point, but if your phone is incapable, then it will just erase your phone. After you have done the r+b combo, do it again then do the step below)
After you have done that, go to phone settings and click Erase Phone Data.

The phone is on right now, but i am scared to turn it off again. Since I am at work right now I will do the r+b combo when I get home in case it wont turn back on. Also what exactly is it that the backspace, enter, combo does?

The combination "gives more power" the the battery I suppose. I'm guessing it makes the phone turn on when it crashed. I used to know what it was for. I'll try to remember. It's going to be hard since no one else knew the combo. (well at least I think).
Good thing I didn't post this yet because I remember now. It's basically a "hidden" way to turn on the phone if it crashes with the "key". Key meaning the power button. I do not know the exact name for it.

hello all, i need help again this time.
let's get to the point.
this morning, i tried to charge my G1 because the battery has yellow color.
when i charged the phone, after around 5 minutes, suddenly my G1 restart itself and then after the "G1" logo, the screen go all black, sometimes not all black but there's a little glitch (white-green-purple-all little colors.)
the phone got heated on the bottom part everytime i power-on it, even just on battery (not charged).
i tried "Camera + Power", it's only getting to that red-blue-green-white screen that shows :
"DREA100 PVT 32B
HBOOT - 0.95.0000
CPLD-4
Radio-2.22.23.02
Sep 2 2008
Serial0"

and it stops there for AGES . won't do anything.
i tried "Home + Power", i tried to hold down that two buttons for 25 second more, but it keeps normal boot, shows G1 logo, and then black screen again.
i tried "Menu + Power", it just the same as "Home + Power"
my G1 has never been rooted, it's all original, i haven't done any system upgrading-downgrading things.
the charger is the original one, original from htc
the battery is new, i've just changed it one month ago.
that's all the informations that i can give.
so, anyone can help me solving this problem?
if its not rooted or anything than that means its HTC's fault not yours. and since you cant access the recovery menu to flash a new rom or recover a nandroid backup, it sounds like you're up ****s creek with a turd for a paddle.... unless somebody has developed a way of flashing without recovery. in other words; get a new phone or send it in to t-mobile.
Get an SD card reader an put a DREIMG.nbh on your sdcard to downgrade to RC29 (push power+camera, select confirm), then wait for the OTA to push you to DMD64. You will loose all your data but at least your phone will work.
Alternatively, after downgrading to RC29 you can exploit the bluetooth bug to gain root access, and after that install CM5.0.8 and be twice as happy with you chunky old G1.

Call+Menu+Power is for a reboot while the phone is on lol. Only other way is "blue light mode" which is trackball and power, but I don't feel like explaining it to you=p.

hey, i'm back.
after days to days downloading DREAIMG.nbh again and again, finally i got the right DREAIMG.nbh, not corrupted one.
and yes, i successfully update, all stuff are signed "OK" , and then i press the action (trackball) button, restart the phone, and guess what? it turns back to the beginning problem, still. "G1" logo, and then turn to whole black screen.
so, now what?
am i bricked?
or is it hardware problem? (remember i said that everytime i turn on the phone, the down part, near sim card, is always getting heated)
the only screen that can be accessed is that rainbow screen and the update screen (Camera + Power).

im pretty sure the heat issue comes from the processor, not the sim card. mine does that too. its nothing to worry about as long as you havent overclocked your device (mine is overclocked and works great aside from gettin warm during heavy usage.) what happens when you plug the phone into usb? does it show the SD card or can you get into the android sdk? its a long shot as i doubt you can get into debug mode without having a uncorrupted os, but i guess its worth a shot.

I had a similar problem as most phones in Canada seem to have Download/Recovery mode disabled, and here is what worked for me.
Grab something like One Click Un Root (all models), and click one click un root (obviously phone has to be on and plugged into the computer).
This should automatically reboot you into Recovery Mode!
All you have to do is "wipe data/factory default" or something like that (should be the third option).
As it states, you will loose all your data, but at least you will have a functionning phone!
did it work?
Hi. I have similar problem. Can anybody give instruction what can I do?
I have this problem too. Please help somebody
Add me to the list. Bell Galaxy S, went to unlock my phone the screen went black. Now it will not boot into the OS, the galaxy S splash screen displays then nothing. The menu and back button light up, thats all. ****[email protected]@
I have not rooted or anything.
Of course my download mode does not work.. Going to try this one click root thing if I can find it.
NOT HAPPY
This is not working. Probably because the phone is not in USB debugging mode as I can't change it... Is there any other way to get the phone into recovery mode?
**** me
i had the same thing happen to me the other day with my bell galaxy s and my phone wont do the 3 button combo trick. i left my phone plugged in to a wall charger for a while until the back of the phone became a little warm. i pulled the battery and then left the power cord plugged in and put the battery back in. i held the volume down and enter button until the battery charging indicator showed up, then i also pressed and held the power button until the boot animation started (this is the blue moving swirl and music, not the galaxy s splash scree) and then i let go of the power button. it took a few attempts at this before it actually worked, but eventually it will go into download mode at which time you can open the odin app, then plug in the usb cable and flash your phone that way. it did seem to make a difference if the back of the phone (around the camera area) was warm. if i let go of the power button while the music was playing and the phone did not enter download mode i would keep all 3 buttons pressed until it shut down again, then i would only let go of the power button while the phone initiated the charging screen, then once the battery logo was displayed i would hold the 3 buttons again and would just keep doing this until it went into download mode. i have flashed it at least 5 times today and i have been able to do this each time.
i also had an issue where odin would not recognize my phone was plugged in and windows would show a message saying the usb device was not recognized. i left the phone plugged in and while in download mode i pressed the volume up, enter button and power button until the phone went blank and when the galaxy s logo showed up i let go of the power button and the phone would go into recovery mode and then the usb drivers would be installed. i would then do the 3 button combo for download mode and odin would work fine. it took several attempts but it does work. i hope this helps you guys
If I hold all three buttons the splash screen does not come on, it just keeps looping the Galaxy S logo until I let go of the power button....

That's what mine did too, several times in a row and then it worked. For some reason it only works after the battery is charging for a bit and the back becomes warm. then it works at will
No luck. I am probably screwed getting it exchanged now too as I am passed the 14 days from Best Buy.
the on click thing doesn't work, if your phone is already bricked.
also it is not the phone's fault for not working, the phone was working properly before you tried the hacks.
whenever you do these kind of things you know you are entering into the "not supported" "not covered by warranty" zone.
in the worse case scenario, if you can no enter download mode to recover your phone, it'll be to take the phone back to bell and claim warranty on it, and prentent you don't know what happened to it.

Its my fault??
I did not hack my phone. Its not rooted, I did nothing to it.
By "unlock" I meant exactly that, unlock as in swiping the screen to unlock it.
The more I search the net the more posts I find of Galaxy S phones randomly bricking...
on the original message sounded more like you went to Unlock the phone, as in SIM unlock the phone using any of the tools available out there, and there has been already several people which had the same problem.
if you go back to Bell for an exchange, you better not use the word "unlock" rather use Swipe
as the message on the phone "swipe the screen to unlock"
there are no known issue about this causing the phone to brick.
if that is what happened to you, you should have started a new topic for people to help you, instead of hijacking the topic from the OP, as your issue is different from OP, the OP actually screwed up because he/she flashed the wrong ROM to the i9000
... anyways, Does it work if you reboot the phone?
I have rebooted the phone about 100 times. The phone crashed when I unlocked it to check a text I received. (not hacked). Has not booted up properly since. I have found many others with the same issue who have also not hacked/rooted/unlocked/ their phones.
Waiting on Best Buy to call me back. I am so pissed right now, I have been bragging to my friends and co-workers how awesome this phone is, one has already picked one up, I hope his doesn't brick too. Not recommending it to anyone anymore..
did you load a lot of MP3 to the phone?
can you boot into Recovery Mode?
in the recovery mode you can wipe the Cache and wipe the data
that should make your phone work normal again
it'll be best to open a topic to help you trouble shoot your interesting issue, as it's the first i've hear that you get a black screen after Swiping out of the lock screen
I can't get into recovery mode. I have tried every button combination I have found. I had about 2 GB of music on the phone. I also installed the Android SDK to try ADB, but since the phone is not in USB debugging mode it does not see it.

on the other topics relating to the 3 button not working.
have you tried the heating up method?
or the plugging the battery in, when all 3 buttons are pressed? (of course for this one you will need help from a friend, unless you are very skilled at keeping the 3 button on hold meanwhile able to slide in the battery in with out a 3rd hand)
Hi all,
I have had loads of problems with this phone, so I decided to do a factory reset.
It rebooted as normal until it got to the Motoblur setup page
It asks for the Motoblur details to be entered, but once you have entered them and pressed the 'next' button, it goes back to the previous screen instead of the next step and then gets stuck in a never ending loop.
I've tried skipping the sign in process but instead of skipping it, it just goes back to the first Motoblur account setup screen instead.
Out of desperation, I have tried to make several new Motoblur accounts but every single time, it gets to 80% completion, then stops.
I have even left running all night (plugged in) and it still freezes at 80%
I can't do another factory reset because it won't get past the Motoblur setup screen.
I've tried to do a hard reset by holding x and powering the phone on but this doesn't work. It just brings up the triangle and android robot but it does not go to the next step despite me leaving it for several minutes.
Only had it for 7 weeks and am awaiting a response from Expansys on what to do.
Any help from you guys will be greatly appreciated.
Apply a debrand image of your system and do a full wipe

Have you pressed the @ key when you get to this step with the robot and the triangle? That should bring up the reset menu, and then you use the volume and camera buttons to choose and select the option you require.

I've done a hard reset, but I still have the exact same problem.
If I try to input my proper Motoblur details it instantly says connection failed (it doesn't seem to even try to connect as fails the instant you press 'next)
Creating a new account hangs at 80%
Any more ideas before I throw it against a wall?
I notice there was an option to boot from SD in the recovey mode.
Would this allow me to boot an official motorola rom?
If so, where would I get the rom from?
A walkthorugh on exactly how to do this would be appreciated if this method could fix my issues.
I'm really annoyed because I sold my HD2 for this phone and I'm regretting it.
Thanks

I think you need internet connection in order to validate your account or create a new one. Check your APN settings first, or do it on wifi.
Hi,
I've tried it whilst connected to my wifi router. I've even tried it via the data connection but nothing happens.
It seems that despite the data/wifi connections being there, it just ignores them.
I think this is the issue. It's not connecting and I don't know why
The phone displays the wifi/3G data symbols in the task bar but it doesn't seem to be using them during the Motoblur setup
Mine is dead too!!!
Hello everybody,
Greetings from sunny, flooded, blown away, Queensland Australia!
Long time lurker, first time poster...
I have a...
Vodafone-Australian-2.2-Milestone2
2 weeks old and its an expensive paper weight. It was rooted and thats about it, had a bunch of root required apps on there, installed the bootstrap, but hadnt installed Xrecovery yet.
I was playing around the other day. changing settings, installing and uninstalling a heap of apps, testing them. Some app suggested I restart or it restarted itself, cant recall, and that was the end. Boots until it gets past the M, and then its just bootloop city.
Won't register on comp in RSD or anything. Will boot to stock recovery and cleared cache and data several times, but that didnt fix anything. Won't even charge the battery. It will run an update but has to be signed. Problem is, we havent had any updates yet on these phones in Australia and there are no custom roms. What update.zip could I get to try to fix it, because I think thats about my only hope.
While recovery was wiping the data and cache it would stop frequently and each time I would touch the ok in the bottom corner of the screen and it would continue, and seemingly despite the 10 or more stops, completes fine. Surely thats not normal.
Out of ideas, I would just send it back with a story but the vodafone boot animation is replaced with disco flashing lights. and thats all it does, non-stop. Do you think they will notice someone has been tinkering?
Ideas? Thoughts?
Oh, and forgot to mention, when I first got it I had the same problem with the Motorola sign in wizard on startup, for quite a while, cant remember how I got around it though. Stop trying to sign in and just get out of that wizard, install ADW Launcher or similar and dont go near any Moto apps. You are only required to do a Gmail sign in, not Moto.
That's the problem though.
I'm stuck at the Motoblur sign in and it will not skip.
Whenever I select skip, it just goes back to the motoblur sign in page instead of going to the home screen.
Basically, in a nutshell, this is what's wrong:
I can't sign in to motoblur (gets stuck in a loop)
I can't create a new motoblur account (crashes at 80% every time)
I can't skip the sign in process (takes me back to the motoblur sign in page instead of loading home screen)
This is my first and last Motorola phone. Not good at all.
So what happens if you press press home or back repeatedly instead of skip? And if all fails reflash new SBF

It just goes back to the motoblur setup/signin screen no matter how many time I press home, back or skip. It's as if a dll is missing and it's unable to boot to the home screen.
How do I flash a new SBF?
Motorola have agreed to let me return it but if I can do it myself I'd rather do it.
I have found this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11155476#post11155476
but the link to the UK SBF is dead
Yeah, that's the one, and the link to UK SBF works fine for me. If you can't get it to flash that way, then you are going to have to do it the way I am about to do mine, which is...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804088
Failing that, send it back and be done with it.
since its so new id send it back. you shouldnt be having this problem at all. the milestone 2 is a very solid phone. i had mine running for 90 days straight not even a reboot or crash or anything lol. sounds like you just got a duff one. with any piece of technology theres bound to be a few that slip through the net. even if you find a fix for your problem you dont know what is causing it. and if youve had problems before then somethings obviously wrong. since theyve agreed to let you return it then thats your best option.
Probably i should send mine one back as well.
Bought a new Milestone 2 yesterday (from ebay, Chinese guys but as per retail package phones are for UK market). Put the SIM in just to check before wiping out everything from my old Defy. Made a call, checked the version and the menu and put the SIM back to Defy to backup all I needed. Plugged Milestone to the mains. 3 hours later found promising "Fully charged" on the screen and put the SIM in. That was it... Since I can't power the phone whatever I do. I thought the Power button went off as I tried to perform hard reset (x+Pwr), BRM (Arrow up+Pwr) and nothing happent at all. But then I put the phone on the charger again and the Power button worked fine switching the screen off and back on.
Any other methods to get the phone running?
UPDATE: It's strange and weird, but I've just had an idea to remove SD card and it worked - the phone powered on immediately!! Formatted the card using card reader, put it back - the phone works flawlessly. Fantastic! =))
Hi All,
I need your quick help, I dont know why but I cannot start my Samsung focus v1.3.
I tried to flash it by pressing power button + volume down + camera button but can't do hard reset.
When I am trying to remove battery and reattach battery again, then phone just showing "SAMSUNG" screen and again goes switched off.
Even I tried to press power button + volume UP + camera button then it shows only "Download Mode" screen only nothing happens after this.
Please need your help!
Many thanks in advance,
Since you just flashed it, I assume that it started up by displaying 'SAMSUNG" and seems to be stuck there.
If that is the case, you need to be patient. It takes a few minutes to get past that point. Every time I flash, I feel like I have done something wrong and the phone is bricked. But it always moves past that point after a few minutes.

nah, it's the power button switch which somehow got stuck, it's a relatively common issue with the focus it seems
some people have reported that cleaning the button helps, others simply have replaced the whole switch at a local repair center... do what you think is best

To flash magldr, you need that combo , press power button + volume UP + camera button then it shows only "Download Mode". To flash a ROM, you go Vol DOWN, and then reset your phone, or format, and then go back to the same menu, and when you see the do you want to format your phone stuff, you hit the back button and you'll see the magldr screen where you'll connect your USB and go forward with the flashing process. Perhaps try flashing an actual ROM to your phone. You can't really do squat from from the download screen but add magldr really. Hope that helps you.

because download mode disables the power switch (it even says "do not turn off"), that's why it seems to "work". power switch is active at the format prompt, however, so when you enter that mode the phone turns off immediately afterwards
do a little experiment: remove the battery, then put it on again while you're pressing volume down plus camera... you'll probably see a little surprise there
it's the switch. go repair that nao
i have the same problem, and many unfortunate people out there , but my phone on service center now, and i just wanna tell you about this thread this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2007946, maybe can make you calm for a while... look at his problem solution
Alright here's the deal. My phone is completely unresponsive to the power button. Volume up/down work just fine, but power does nothing. I've downloaded "Touch Control" which works great for locking/unlocking the phone, but I have no idea how to turn the phone completely off, or how I would get it back from being "off". This morning it wouldn't turn on, but when I connected it to my charger/computer it would start charging. I figured it was toast, but it randomly booted up like normal (minus the power button). Can anyone let me know how to turn on the phone without the button? If it requires connecting a computer that is do-able, but i'd rather have a way to make the phone turn on with the volume button.

Turning on the phone from the computer is not possible afaik. I would suggest doing a data factory reset in settings/backup and restore or reflash a stock image.
Well I'm sure you can just write a Tasker task to turn your phone off basically any way you want to, the volume buttons or otherwise. If you don't already know about it, just look up Tasker in the Play store, it's really useful and worth a buy. As for turning it back on after it's off, that will be a little harder. I don't really know how you would go about doing that. I am interested to see what other people come up with though, so I'll stick around and read for any solutions.

The best is to unscrew the backcover and disconnect the battery and wait a minute or two, then reasemble it. You`ll need a special screwdriver
though. Check on Google which one.

I'd really prefer not to disassemble the phone, but I might have to give it a shot later on down the road. Although, I'd still have to turn off my phone and turn the phone back on. I'd rather not have my phone turn off until I can find a way to turn it back on in case the button still won't function after I mess with opening up the phone.

I use tasker for lots of things at the moment, but how would I get tasker to get my phone to do anything from a "completely off" state? I could use it for the wake/sleep function but I like Touch Control at the moment. My problem is turning it completely off and then back on from completely off. I believe Tasker wouldn't be running to perform the commands from a completely off state.

What is your reasoning behind the factory reset? I'm perfectly happy with my phone as is, and I don't know how to reflash images without the camera button to "select" the zip files. I know I can run the reset through the settings but I don't want to be stuck without a way to at least get back to where I currently am.
Ultimately, does anyone know how to map something like vol up + vol down to turn the phone completely off or back on? Or at least show a way through usb debugging to turn on a phone.
I've been reading a few places that claim you can turn on the phone via ADB and then there are other places saying it isn't possible. Does anyone have any experience with this?

From a quick search it looks like this should work:
Code:
adb shell
reboot -p
Havent tried it though.

Just tried it with my wife's N4. ADB works normal with it powered on, but when I have it off and connect it, it does not show in the device list and therefore I can't sent the reboot command. Anyone have anything else to try next?
Quick update. I was reading some people felt having CWM recovery would allow it to be seen in ADB while "off". I just put it back on my wife's phone and still nothing gets recognized. Does anyone know what version of CWM I'd need to download to get it to be recognized in ADB while turned off?
I've had this same problem for the past week and there is a really simple fix. Obviously without a power button you have two problems: 1) you can't turn the screen on and off 2) you can't turn the phone on if the battery completely dies or is removed.
Solution to not being able to turn screen on and off
-Download one of the many apps that uses the accelerometer and/or proximity sensor to control the screen (such as 'Awesome On Off')
Solution to not being able to power on the phone
-Use "recovery mode" to turn the phone on and then click to restart the phone. Google search for how to enter recovery mode for your specific device, but for the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket you turn the phone off, disconnect the charging cable, and while it's off you press and hold both volume buttons at once. While holding these buttons you connect the usb charging cable and a message pops up telling you to press "volume up" to enter recovery mode or press "volume down" to exit recovery mode and restart the phone. Do this second option. Your phone will reboot and you'll be back to your home screen.
Hope this helps someone!
I haven't looked into this in detail but I doubt it will be too hard to just fix/replace the button.

Best way to turn on and turn off android is to use ADB & fast boot.
1.Install ADB & fastboot on windows
2.Boot your android into download mode
3.Connect to PC via USB
4.Oppen command prompt from ADB Folder
5.Now issue this command > " adb reboot".
