Hi @ all,
got my Hermes for about two weeks now, and flashed LVSW after 4days
In fact, everything was working fine, for the beginning, but after a while some weird problems appeared (like the phone not waking up, sound stuttering, or slow response although i killed all programs with a task manager) and i switched over to Schap's WM6 GER Rom. This has very interesting features, and does not freeze as often as LVSW did, but its slow too... the VOIP with 1&1 as my Provider doesn't work, and some other minor things will make me switch again very soon.
Actually my question is: Are there any WM5 oms out there, which have been customized? Or are there only WM6 develompents going on?
It seems that there are some major stability issues with some devices running WM6...

You're very brave (or foolish) flashing after only a few days
There are many, many customised ROMs out there for both WM5 and WM6 but many don't leave the developers bench! It really depends what you class as "interesting".
The reason why most of the development now sits with WM6 is that WM5 has really been "done" - there is little more to improve upon except adding applications to a ROM build which is really a bit pointless for many - as everyone has different tastes in application choices. There is nothing more annoying than having valuable space taken up with something you don't use and can't remove! (ie - it's easier to add later than to try and take away at the start) This is why many "vanilla" roms are popular with many people. WM6 also is an ideal developers area as it is still very new - and every single WM6 ROM you use you should still consider a "beta" and so will occasionally have the odd quirk. Most are discussed in their own threads.
My personal advice is rather than seeking "interesting" ROMS, read the wiki and the forums - use the tools provided and do what I do - make your own custom ROMS to your taste based on a vanilla. Pretty much everything you need is here in the forums and it's much more satisfying creating your own NBH than just burning someone elses!
Not to mention the satisfaction of knowing how the guts of your device actually work - just be prepared for the odd late-night unbricking session
If you do decide to go down that route though - don't forget to donate to the guys who write the tools to help keep the developments going!

already thought about playing with a kitchen, when you wrote your reply...
So now, i tried "corePRO Kitchen" and found it very, very easy to use, although i encountered some problems:
Assuming i take a shipped t-mob_ger rom put it into the kitchen, extracted it, and went all the way through the step-by-step-tutorial. Afterwards i flashed it to my Hermes, and it worked. (hehe this is the way it should be, i think ) But the splashimages remained purple (from Shaps WM6 rom).
Then i wanted to do the same with a Faria-WM6-rom, and this time, the phone didn't boot anymore... again the splashscreens remained as they were...
But when i flash the same faria rom without rebuilding it in the corePRO it replaces the splashimages, and boots very fine...
Any idea, why this happens?
Is the corePRO broken? or can you tell me which kitchen you prefer?
Some more and more detailed tutorials on corePRO might also be good... Didn't search the forums yet, will do after sending this post. Only recognized that the corePRO-author's website is not available... (he wrote there should be more tuts...)

Ok, I have my Wing and im running touch it... its cool but this device is still slow... i have it over clocked and pagepooled... my brother has 8125 and its so much faster and i started to think that it was something wrong with my phone... Is anyone else having this problem? imean i touch the screen and it does not respond in realtime it sometimes takes up to 3 or 4 seconds... when writing messages it takes forever its just got to the point where it is very irritating... is there anything i can do to get my wing up to par where it wont seem sooooo slow?
Im not sure. Im overclocked and have pagepool at 6 and mine runs pretty quick.
Sounds like you may be overclocking it a little too far. Try lowering the OC and see if that helps.
Try installing a new Rom.
My T-mobile Wing used to be EXTREMELY slow with the stock T-mobile Rom on there ... it would always freeze and give me that little round hourglass thing all the time for the dumbest crap ... like checking new SMS msgs...but the moment I installed the PDAVIET v14 rom on there, the difference in speed was instantaneous. Afterwards, I installed batterystatus and overclocked it to 273mhz, and it runs like a charm. Installing the PDAVIET rom was the best thing I ever did, and I don't know how I survived this long without it!
^^^ thanks... how did you ever get v14 to install? i thought there were problems getting it onto the wingand it was missing programs...
My friend helped me do it, so unfortunately I don't have the exact process. From my understanding, you have to get past the CID check in order to install it since it's not an official tmobile rom.
Yeah mine is kinda slow too, do you really recomend installing that Touchflow thing (i dont know much about anything, just got my wing yesterday).

TouchFlo is just a specific application that's originates from the HTC Touch device... but people have ported it over into Rom's built for most htc devices.
Here is a demo of the touchflo, so you can see what it is.

The touchflo cube itself is pointless to me ... it's just something that came out to make it 'prettier' and IMO it's just a gimic aimed towards the iPhone. I DO like that you can scroll now without the use of the scrollbars... and I wouldn't be able to live without that now that I have it.
I DO reccommend installing a 3rd party Rom on your phone, and you currently have the option of 2 roms.
There are other roms out there, but you want to make sure you install one that is specifically made for the wing, bc if you don't you're going to run into problems such as, the keys on the keyboard not lining up. The Tmobile wing is the HTC "atlas" which is a variant of the HTC Herald. The keyboard on the Wing (atlas) is different than the one of the herald, so when you start using certain keys/symbols, you get something else.

Hey Duprade,
Since I ran into a lot of problems bricking/unbricking the last time that I installed a new rom, I don't want to rush through it this time. I am kind of in the middle of the two roms that you said earlier, the touch_it and the pdaviet 14. Could you update us with your experience with both and which one you recommend personally. i am kind of leaning towards the pdaviet since i don't want some programs that come with the touch_it but i would like to hear someone more experiences comments comparing them as well. thanks in advance.... by the way my device is locked does that mean that i can not install the pdaviet v14 i thought the issue was resolved?

I am currently running the PDAVIET rom. I was experimenting with the Touch-IT rom, but I am used to the PDAVIET rom and since I use my phone for work and all my work correspondence comes directly to my phone, I have to have it in working order at all times.
I would reccommend that you install both ROMs and test them both out to see which one you like best, because until you try them, you won't know which one YOU will like best.
If you follow the link I posted for the PDAVIIET rom, just follow the directions for the installation that I posted.
The Touch-IT rom installs using the ASERG method, which you can find the directions on installing it when you download the necessary files.
Okay, without flashing a new rom, and having to reinstall all my programs (speaking of that, Sprite backup didn't work for me, different story-comments?)
Is there any way to speed it up? Disable startup processes?
I've had to reset mine about 2-5 times in 48 hours...P I E C E O F C R A P...(not really a POS, just pissing me off)

for sure, just navigate to \windows\startup...a simple search of what is in that folder will let you know what you use and what you can delete.

A new favourite tool of mine since having the herald is sktools. I never really used it before but there is an application associated with sktools that allows you to imitate hibernation of the device which will bring your program memory to just below what it was after boot up.
hope that helps....maybe one day i'll even make a vanilla rom (hopefully someone will make one quiker) so that these problems with it becoming slow disappear.

Now the recent problem I've been having is that when the device slows down, and freezes up, it unfreezes and theres a part of the screen that seems to be "stuck" in every app I use, until I restart...WtF?
EDIT: Oh, and SKTools looks good, but I'm not paying for programs. I'm broke just from buying the Herald
Ok...so i have done quite a bit of reading on this forum for the past couple months. I purchased a Wing from tmobile and absolutly love it. I have since then changed to the touchflo rom and installed the battstatus and it runs like a champ, couldnt ask for more.

Well im not actually new to the pocket pc's. i have just wanted one since i was like 13 but couldn't afford the 650 bucks at the time...LOL. I have the Titan Phone from Alltel and would like some info and guides on how to flash it to some of the new mods i have seen. Im not sure how to go about flashing or backing up my phone just incase the inevitable happens as we all have experienced before...UGH..LOL. Any help would be appriciative, and mod ideas would be great too, especially the a new internet browser i have been hearing about, instead of using this damn IE. Thank you
Well first off, Welcome to Xda Developers! You can find answers to any questions u might have on here.
There are many different options for ppcs so you have to figure out which are right for you. There are custom roms out there and they all have wikis or manuals as how to flash the roms. DCD is a big rom maker on here and can set you up with the best rom for your phone. Look under the Titan Upgrading Forum for DCD Titan Rom...3.2.6 is the latest. he has very clear instructions as well.
if you flash, you will lose all of your info as if you had hard reset your phone. you will have to reinstall everything that you persoanlly installed.
there are many browsers out there such as MiniMo (Mozilla Firefox for ppc), SkyFire(desktop style in beta form), Opera Mobile ( most popular and has tons of features), and Iris browser(very similar to Iphone and safari). there may be more, but i dont know of them. lol

and by the way, roms/radios improve your device by making it faster than the stock rom/radio.

I have been trying quite a few ROM's on my HD2 and they have all sort of rolled into one mash-up of memories in my head - for the most I can't say I have noticed much difference in speed or responsiveness in the ROM's, and despite a few problems I have only come across one ROM that gave me any real issues.
But none of the ROMs have given me exactly what I am after (and that's an ever moving target anyway!) so I am thinking about having a go at cooking a ROM of my own. But before I go down that path I wanted some paternal guidance on the matter - and a clarification over the benefits of getting a stock ROM, adding all the software and tweaks I use then cooking it, against just installing the stock ROM to my HD2 then installing the apps on top and applying the tweaks afterwards. Are there any benefits such as speed or memory usage? or is it simply that if I need to hard-reset the device at any point I don't have to go through all that reinstalling again?
So your thoughts on the pros and cons of cooking vs installing would be greatly appreciated by a brain-addled HD2 user.
Been cooking for Trinity but not for HD2 ... still ...
Cooking gives you chance to make a ROM that is perfect for You. Some things cannot be removed like MS Live or Office via usual un-install procedure. Also you can cook ROM with favorite theme and applications.
Tweaking is completely different story. There are a lot of tweaks and most of them work but when you start implement a lot of tweaks things will get complicated. Suddenly Bluetooth will stop pairing, compass wont work as it should and so on. Then you will start hunting newer versions of applications that could solve some of the problems but will create some others ... you see the pattern?
At some point you will be satisfied with your ROM and even publish it here ... but then there will be new OS build available ... and there you go again.
Basically, depends on what kind of user you are. If you need HD2 to work and run applications without too much problems then you should stick to original or cooked ROMs. On the other hand, if you have a lot of spare time and will to learn something new, you should go for cooking.

Humm - pretty much as I thought really, as I need a device that works then looks like I would be better off sticking with some of the ROMs existing chefs have created.
What would help in this matter would be a sticky with a table on it showing various comparisons with ROMs - I know this info can be found on each ROMs page but a single post with it all compiled together and then linking to the various ROM pages would be great. I guess comparisons could list the chef, ROM build no, Core build no, Manila version, WM version, size, Driver version, additional apps, removed apps and so on.... - just needs someone to keep the data up-to-date. Any takers?

Well volunteered if you can also get a screenshot alongside them that would be great.. either that or steer me towards a Landscape enabled/576ram/no copilot/vista task bar and slider with no curtains and I'll leave you in peace.

I'm a little confused about Android on the HD2. I've done a little research, but haven't found full answers, could someone clear this up for me a little bit? Sorry to sound like a idiot, I'm just getting in to ROM's and stuff.
1. Is there a FULLY Working Android ROM, with no lag etc. for the HD2, If so, what version is it? If not, what's missing, and will it effect usage majorly?
2. Do you have to ROOT it first, or just use a Bootloader, as I only really know about Rooting on Android, and is it easy to ROOT A HD2?
3. If I do put Android on there, is it easy to revert back to Windows mobile, and if I keep changing the ROM, will it damage the phone?
I'll be getting one on T-Mobile UK If that helps.

there are many threads with guide and faq... however:
1. there is 90% "working" android rom... you can check it out the builds, i use darkstone HD2Froyo_V2.1 and I like it... on top of rom topics chef explains what works and what doesn't work.
2. just use a Bootloader, rom is already rooted
3. you don't delete winmo, android starts on sdcard after winmo starts (haret.exe). you don't need to flash any.

Oh okay, so its sort of like Dual-booting then? And is there a guide for using the Bootloader etc?
And, if I just removed the SD Card, would it boot in to Winmo? And are people still making Android ROM's for the HD2?

Your phone will automatically boot into windows whenever you reboot your phone unless you have a dualboot program installed and then you get asked the option.
i've been running the darkstone HD2Froyo_V2.1 android rom also and i like it too, although i still primarily run my HD2 in windows and just goto android for some of the apps and have a look about in the market etc...
Its an awesome feature and has made the HD2 which i already loved, just plain awesome...
So this ROM that you're both talking about, does it have calls, texts etc? Anyone got a list of what works and what doesn't?
Also, how hard is the Dual boot program to install?
The dual boot program is a .cab, so its retarded easy to install.
Yes, calls and texting work. But you'll get a robot voice unless you flash your WM to a cooked rom.
I'm also using darkstone's froyo w/ sense. Its the only version that has proven to provide me with consistent stability, and I currently use it as my primary o/s. Granted its not as smooth as mattc leo 1.6, it has yet to give me a SOD or lock up on me. The battery drain was too rediculous for me at first, but I flashed my radio to 1.11 and it's been great ever since.
Minor drawbacks: screen will lag from time to time (small 3 second freeze, easily fixed by lock/unlock), 3 mp camera is a bit of a set back, and the Facebook integration is limited to the people you've only recently become friends with v/s your old friends.
For me, these are minor set backs. I came from an iPhone, so WM felt limited in some areas that Android has let me feel free in again! (Both great os's though)
