Guys,
I have had my touch hd for a couple of months now and it has developed a fault.
the micro SD slot will not keep the card locked in.
it stays in place with the back on but as soon as you take the back off it springs out.
I got the phone from my local cex.co.uk in about Jan and it does come with a 12 month warranty.
I swapped my touch Pro for this one and have been reletively happy with it so far.
I have been advised by Cex via email that I am entitled to a refund on the phone as it is faulty and they do not have a replacement in stock at my local store anyway.
So I now have the best part of £350 to spend on another mobile.
anyone have any ideas what to go for ???
that kind of money would also pay off my current contract too.. so i could start again with another operator (which i am kinda swinging towards as T-mobile reception is absolutley garbage for me)
though I would stick it out with the right handset.
like i said i do kinda like the touch hd but there are some other nice phones out there too..
I think my dad is getting the new LG Arena which looks kinda nice too... (if a bit of an iphone clone)
thanks...Dean
Actually not trying to be funny or anything....but try an iphone, you may seriously love the device and the UI. Especially the beautiful touch screen.
I'm pretty sure there will be many who will bash me for saying this (this is afterall a WinMo device site)...but honestly, I've owned many WinMo phones (more then 12 sets) and recently got an iphone to play around and the interface, quality, smoothness, blows me away. Try it and you may never turn back.
One more thing, unlike WinMo, so far i've not got a hang so bad that I've to reset the iphone yet. Most of the time pressing and holding onto the home button kills the offending app.
Thanks Prelude
I would prob go for an iphone as I love my ipod touch anyway...
just impossible to get an O2 signal where I work either..
going to have to be Orange or 3 i think as we have an Orange booster within the building to enable all the boss's company mobiles to work.
still could get an unlocked one i suppose...

I used to love this phone very much I can't stand it anymore. My last one treo 680 had was hanging once every 10 calls on an incoming call. Spent numerous hours reading forums trying all kinds of stuff including hard reset and manually inputting every single phonebook item. Nothing it just kept on hanging.
Recently bought a treo pro. Except for the inability to sync with a MacOS which is actually a major shortcoming the phone worked fine... At least until I found those f...in cracks on the phone body mentioned in one of the posts. Shipped to the warranty service which told me that the repair will take between 4-6 weeks. They are probably going to send it with the slowest post service to china and have it repaired there. 6 weeks is more than 10% of the warranty period.
In one word - the worst deal ever.
The second I get this phone back I'm selling it.
Cracks
I also found a little crack and asked them what to do; they arranged a pick-up service and it took about 10 days and I received a new one; so You might hope that it comes back faster (in my case it went to the UK and back).
Cracks...
Since I just happened to stumble upon this post, I might as well add my own little rant about Palm...
I purchase my Treo Pro Oct 31/08. In January I noticed the cracks everyone is talking about.. By the volume there 2 and one by the wireless button.
I live in Canada. The Treo Pro does not sell in Canada so I purchased mine online from the US.
Palm Canada will not honour the warranty because they do not sell it and told me since I purchased it in the US, I would have to speak with Palm US.
Palm US, will not honour the warranty because I do not have a US Shipping location. I do not know anyone in the US. Palm can easily arrange to drop the phone in to one of the many shipments going back and forth to Palm Canada but decided to tell me that it's my problem. Well. Nice Customer service. I spent $500 plus dollars for their phone, Palm could care a less about their customer, even when they know that the Cracks are a known issue.
Let me say one more thing here. The phone is made by HTC. The last phone I purchased was an HTC as well - The Vogue. You know, The one with the MSM-7500 Chipset with the Imageon (Missing) driver issue? One of the many HTC phones which HTC decided not to include the driver for? (See here.. http://www.htcclassaction.org/)
To say the least, I am a little pissed at HTC as well as Palm for dropping the ball in both cases. I will think very hard about the Pre, or any HTC products in the future (not).
In the meantime its has been already 5 weeks. Palm keeps saying that the phone is not ready yet. Isn't there like a maximum reparation time after which they must refund?
Bought a DVD player from Panasonic once. Since it had some problems I think we have to add them to the list of worst company as well
I tried numerous Palm devices wich worked just fine. With and without all the tweaking I do on devices.
Noticed a stuck pixel on my Palm Pro and Palm is going to repair it. So that's actually a plus since my old SPV e200 wasn't repaired and had the same problem..
I hope an admin is going to close this useless thread..
I have a Treo 750 and sofar im happy with it. I got it as a used phone but it was in a real good condition.
I had Treo 650,680,750 and now I have Treo Pro, and Centro as a second phone.
Only 650 I had to replace, it was unstable. The second one was OK.
I still believe, the PalmOS was the best mobile system - superfast response, simple interface, even my wife understood it . Today, I would crash the Treo Pro to the ground waiting for something to appear sometimes. But I still like this form factor and would not buy another phone.
This is the message I sent HTC, because I am getting kinda sick of how laggy my titan is. I don't have an insurance company so I can't return it to Alltel. I sent it 5 days ago and haven't gotten a response, guess to many people killed their phones on purpose.
Hello, I am currently using the HTC PPC6800 on Alltel, and I am having some problems with it. The down button stopped working, and the keyboard has to be pressed pretty hard for it to register the letters, the space bar misses spaces all the time. The power button is worn down so that sometimes it has to be pressed more than once for it to work. The call quality isn't the greatest, and I'll get roaming signs from inside my house. The phone is very slow with one app running, and lags very badly with more than one. I was hoping that I could upgrade to a newer phone. I'd be willing to pay some money, but I don't want to pay the $300 that it would cost elsewhere. Thank you for your time.
Well that is a pretty good letter. Was your 6800 a refurb? Mine is, and it still works awesome but I had to go through six refurbs to get this one really good unit. Sounds like you got the short end of the HTC hardware stick. That is really too bad. Was your phone in warranty? Let us know if they get back to you.
I bought it off ebay and it was used but it hadnt been activated or something weird like that, there were no scratches or anything. They emailed me back and said that they couldn't help because they don't sell phones. I can't go through alltel to do it since I didn't buy it from them.
Next time get insurance it will save you the headache.
Well...today, for no reason whatsoever, my speaker went dead. it had been crackling (a few other threads about that) but suddenly, no sound. loud speaker works fine...infact everything else too...
so, it's off to get a new speaker put in right now with HTC (5 day workaround...like that is going to happen)
but i'd like to know if anyone else has been having issues with Speakers dying on them/crackling. I am considering taking it up with HTC if there are a few people who seem to have the same problem(s). (i got them to give me a brand new mTeoR 3 years ago because of the joystick not working properly...you just have to complain/petition enough!)
Sorry to hear this!
Are you doing this through insurance.
If not, would you mind letting this guy know what steps you took to initiate your repair?
Thanks!
The faulty speaker seems to be a common problem, I had my phone replaced because mine was crackling too. I went to the store where I got the phone only 2 or 3 days after I bought it and after demonstrating the issue they gave me a new Topaz right away.
mine has been in the service center 3times and today i sent it again.
firs time the phone wouldnt connect to the computer. they replaced the board.
got it back and the phone was scratched. sent it in again and they replaced the digitlizer and outer housing. got it back and there was a shadow when i took pictures. this time i sent it in and i mentioned that there was a lot of distortion when the earpice was in use. i told them to replace the phone and they told me that htc is not a company that replaces phones. seriously i will never buy an htc phone again. this my first time and i actually liked it more than my iphone but with all these problems the iphone is simply better. if you have owned an apple product you will know that if they cant fix it they will replace it.

whilst i agree with many of your other points regarding HTC customer service (they treat the devices like crap) i have to point out that your comment regarding apple is FALSE.
I had BOTH my ipods (older generations) returned to me with new hard drives in, but brand new scratches all over them. Apple gave me so much grief, i swore (at them/to myself) never to buy an apple product again.
as my post above says, my Diamond has gone in to be serviced (in the UK, although i live in Germany...sigh) so i will comment on how that goes when the phone is returned.
ALSO: HTC *did* replace a phone for me once (after i faked a story about leaving the country soon, and needing the phone NOW! )

the thing is that i live in the usa and i have told htc many times to replace the phone because they cant fix it + its cheaper to just replace the device rather than mess around with it and replace all the parts one by one.i also told them that dust was getting into my screen and when i received the device the dust was still there. my iphone had this problem and i took it to apple store and they just gave me a new one( non referbrished) i don't know how apple treats costumers out of usa but here they treated me much better then any company.

Ok so i dont like the phones that sprint has other than the hero...
but that is a low end and i dont know about going away from windows mobile...
anyone else get rid of their mogul and go to the other side?
how are the apps for google?
free?
trying to figure out what to do.. my mogul works but seems to have memory leaks even with stock rom... which i may put back on and take to them... also a gps app does not work but used to on my last mogul (replaced due to water damage).. same app no install just .exe runs but doesnt connect via gps....so my phone got issues? not sure how to approach sprint with that one as every other feature works ok... other than a few days in need to reboot as i have 85% mem used with nothing running!!!!!
has the titan been replaced?
The HTC Touch Pro 2 has replaced the mogul.
WM6.5 can run for a month with no change in memory usage. (Oxios is a nice app, if you haven't tried it)
I have seen GPS hardware break on these phones.
Don't buy this model used, nor would I trust the quality of any HTC phone ever again (read on if you want to find out my perspective on why)
I can't believe the poor quality of these phones. I am on my 5th Mogul in a year and a half.
1st Brand New: Green Phone key died
2nd: Hard locked hourly, Green Phone key died
3rd: Keyboard stopped working, Green Phone key died
4th: Keyboard backlight died, GPS DIED, Green Phone key died ( My friends did this too, there is some type of hardware failure, sprint nav, google maps, windows live just died, weak gps signal)
5th: Brand new sealed box replacement flashed to 6.5 and it's been a dream, but I bet money it will have all those issues within a year ( It's been two months).
The first 4 developed a damn "hot spot" in the bottom left of the screen. The first 4 all had some issue with the green or red phone button on the front. I just don't know if I can trust HTC after all that (I had 3 brand new htc 6700's within 1.5 years, blown speaker, dead power issues, and d-pad issues).
I am replacing my fathers phone with a BB tour tomorrow. We shall see how it stacks up. Already, i'm hating the fact that wifi is gone. I'm 6ish month off from my "upgrade". I hate to leave HTC, but I'll lose my mind if another $300 phone pulls this crap on me within a year of ownership. That said, my upgrade will probably be a TouchPro2 unless I like the BB tour after my dad has it for a few weeks and I learn it's strengths and weaknesses. I can't believe I put up with HTC and Windows this long... I'm a sucker for nice tech even if I know it'll die on me in countless ways.
im looking at the samsung moment now..
although i dont want to pay $199 and get a $100 mir....
yeah $99... but my mogul is working....
when i got the wife a new phone.. i beat them up and pretty much got her phone free.....
I'm running Android on my HD2. I warranty swapped it last week, and the replacement that came in has a problem with the buttons: pressing the menu (Windows) button also presses the home button. Pressing the home button also presses the green phone button. I can physically feel both buttons click, so something wasn't reassembled right during refurb.
I called TMO to swap it again, and they informed me that the HD2 is no longer available for swap! I have to upgrade to a "non-Androidable" HD7, or buy another phone at regular price. I griped a bit that I just swapped it last week and don't want the HD7 due to "incompatibilities" with what I needed from a phone, and said the only other option I could use would be an Android phone. I asked them to give me a credit comparable to the HD7 price towards an Android of my choosing, and she said they could work out an early upgrade discount toward my choice.
This really sucks; although I get an early upgrade to a Sensation or G2X, I was perfectly happy with my HD2 and don't want to upgrade! Off to the TMO store to figure out what I want to do...

So they won't replace it but would be oh so helpful if they can extend your contract. My phone does the same thing with home and menu, I just make due with it at the moment but shifting my finger over to the far right when I want to hit the button, I think you can open it up and fix it if you want. I don't think you need to totally gut it to get to the buttons. When I called about the problem and got the same guff I just told them to piss off cause I love this phone to much.
On the other side you may find them showing up on ebay cheaper, maybe just get another one there?

That's pretty ****ed.
Makes sense they have to pull it cause its too powerful now, they fear it. The horror of unlocked phones os's, people teathering out of control and without a fee, good god social order itself would break if we leave this phone out there a second longer...lol
I think it's just the end of it's life cycle, maybe HTC will give us the next big thing soon.
Yeah it does suck. My warranty goes out today and I called on Monday which was the 22nd of this month to get a replacement going. My HD2 is still pretty much very functional but it did start this wierd thing when I plug my ear buds in sometimes. It will start playing music as soon as I plug the audio jack in and it will play like 3 seconds and pause for 3 seconds and play it again, just a continueous cycle untilI kill it in with my task manager.
Anyway they told me I would have to pay a 5 dollar process fee and they could only send me a brand new HTC HD7 cause they no longer have any HD2's. First I do not want a HD7 and second why do I have to pay a 5 dollar processing fee for a warranty exstange. It all sounds like BS to me. I guess T-Mobile deciding to stop offering the HD2 and the still huge demand for them is why Best Buy started selling HD2's unlocked, don't heleive me go check out the Best Buy website.
Guess I will have to go to Best Buy or Ebaycand by me the two more HD2's I want to buy. And yes orangekid, just like Cottula said in the quote in your sig. "LEO is still the king"

No doubt.
I'd take the HD7 replacement, then sell it and buy a used HD2, I'm finding them here for like $130 damn near mint.
I would rock an HD7 for all of 2 hours before I'd want my HD2 back.
I could have gotten so many other phones by now. Right now I have a Nexus One, an MT4G, and my HD2, I also have had the opportunity to get a Sensation for pretty cheap but every time I put up my HD2 for sale or consider a new phone, I always say "nevermind" and come back to this phone. With Yuki/xbmod releasing their new Mango build and ACA damn near perfecting their CM7 ROM, 2 years after the phone's been out and it really is still the King.
