Try a hard reset. R2 has been very stable for me - it has never crashed or hang my phone.

I agree. It's far more stable, it's using less memory and IMHO less battery. My guess is that your brother's xperia is unstable because of other software installed (maybe the leaked R3AA panel manager?).
has windows ever been stable? hahahaha. I haven't have problems with R2, when my xperia ever do hangs or crashes, it is usually due to 3rd party software, do make sure that they are WM6.1 compatible, some are still not. Do check if any 3rd party software you are using had release new versions to fix problems or updated to support WM6.1

For me both R1A and R2A are stable but i prefffered R2A because it consumes less battery...
You can always change rom upgrade and downgrade....
ADVICE....
BUT YOU SHOULDT READ SOME TUTORIALS ON HOW TO DO THAT...AND NOT TO BRICK IT IN THE WAY...
THERE ARE HERE IN THE X1 DEVELOMP ROM FORUM....
REMEMBER HOW MUCH DID YOUR PHONE COST YOU...
he did a hard reset and his phone is stable hasn't hanged in 2 days whereas earlier it use to hang every 10 min.. he hasn't installed any third party software now.. no he did not install R3AA panel manager.. i know how much my phone cost me hehe and it is a amazing phone.. when is the R3AA rom coming.. ?

Hey
can anybosy help bme relsove this problem my XDA II has started to run relly slow when I mean slow it is slow the sound come out in slow motion.
any help pleasssseeeee.
Regards
Gigi
Have you tried a soft-reset?
What other software are you running?
How much memory do you have free?
What were you doing when this first happened?
All these things can be factors. Give us some more info and I'm sure someone can help you out.
I have the same problem since I upgraded to ROM 1.66 WWE ENG. Moreover, it crashes all the time (already 2 hard resets today!!!)
Does anybody have the same problem with that ROM?
Regards
Ferdinand
mine happen when i use spiderman2 themes download from pocketthemes.com , after i delete it and back to normal , but i hard reset mine xda2 2 times
Same problem here too, mine really slows down sometimes and the only thing that will speed it up again is a reset, and it does crash a lot since putting the new O2 rom in,
I'm really considering putting the old rom back as i never had any problems with that except for my BT headset occasonally unbonding
I had some occasionally but before I updated, but I guess this is normal for windowsmobile (its my first ppc).
Yesterday I updated my Xperia with the SEUS (Its an unlocked phone so the update came directly from SE and not for example from vodafone).
Since then my Xperia froze a lot. Today I had to remove the battery and reboot for at least 5 times. It always happens on the today screen when I hit the start button. The start menu appears and then the phone just freezes. The backlight doesnt dim or turn off after a while, and the powerbutton also doesnt respond and the only thing I can do at this point is removing the battery or soft resetting. This often already happens shortly after booting.
I didnt install a lot of apps after the update, but I´ll list the here anyway, maby it will help you help me
-Nitrogen
-Syncmate driver
-G-Alarm
-XnView Pocket
-Taskfacade 4
Now I really dont know what to do. Id flash a custom rom since I know it optimizes some things, but Im really new to this and dont even know how to flash a crom or what roms can/should, cant/shouldnt be flashed on my X1.
I hope youre able to help me
this the official R3A?

I would guess so since it came from SE through SEUS as the TS states.
Are you sure you're on R3AA? I thought this wasn't available on SEUS yet...
Check settings -> system -> device information -> customer information.
I flashed the generic UK R3AA (obtained from XDA-Devs here) at the weekend and so far I'm really impressed. R2AA was a bit slow at times, and froze alot. It never felt comfortable, if you know what I mean.
Early experiences with R3AA for me are really good. Phone feels much slicker, landscape switching is fantastically quick, menus seem to work more quickly (in 'settings', for example), windows folder opens in explorer much more quickly. Basically the whole thing feels better.
I know this is purely subjective, and I know many have said not to bother with R3AA which has ended up as little more than a maintenance upgrade, but I do think it was definitely worth it...for me at least.
Yeah, its the official R3A I installed it through SEUS (Sony Ericson Update Service)
Im really sorry for doubble posting, but its 11 pm here and I need my phone or Ill oversleep tomorrow >.< (No I dont have an alarm clock atm)
The phone freezes literally every time now when I hit the start button, except when Im fast enough and press it right after booting. Its totally useless like this
Already tried a hardreset (pressed both softkkeys and put the styls in the softreset hole) but it didnt reset the phone. What else can I do?

It may be a bad backup or certain application which causes that, IMO.
I had such experiences, that a certain app was slowing down the phone horribly.
I managed to do a hard reset now, first I pressed the wrong key combo (duh´)
So now my Xperia is working again. Its strange that it shows me Sodtwareversion: R3AA007 now, since I had something with R2A before the update (or is that normal?)
Anyways Ill now backup my stockrom if I find the time and flash a custom rom (The video tutorials are awesome)
I think this thread can now be locked. Thanks to everybody who tried to help me
I did find R3AA rom alittle unforgiving when it comes to software conflict as compared to R2AA.
I have PointUI, and apparently the applet I build will causes the R3AA to hang, when it was working fine on R2AA (albeit alittle unstable at times, but not as bad as R3AA). When I patched my applet to ensure it freeds up a certain chunk of memory instead of holding it for next processing, the applet works brilliantly on R3AA again, and even more stable than before.
So I suggest that you install your apps one by one and see which one hung on you.
Do you have the latest Version of G-Alarm? Please check the developer's board at http://forum.ageye.de/ for this problem. This happened often.

Exactly.
Like for me Worldmate made my phone very bad...
Since german firmware version 1.66 my device sometimes stops working while not in use . Only solution then is to soft reset via the button near the battery . I have no tweaks in use.
Anyone else has that problem???
I´m curious since I hadn´t have the problem with 1.48.
no problems here.
flashed 1.66 on 02.02. and no lockup till now. have installed some minor things after flash, softreset once, still running without issues (4th day without reset). on 1.48 i had to sr every day cause of the "sms issue"...

Are you sure ??
I had the same issue til i knodest that i had 2 cabs installed, screen sensitive and vibration cab, now is ok here
i've also a german device - but unbranded. 1.66 firmware runs very good.
maybe you should try to make a hardreset.
good luck
Same here. I've not at all any problems with 1.66 in German. The device runs totally flawless and it seems as if all bugs are gone... In my opinion the device became with 1.66 what it should have been right at the beginning when HTC started to sell it for ~€600,-
I'm kind of heavy-user - I use my HD2 every day more than 3 hours, have installed quite a lot of apps (~30 at least) - have never encountered any problem or freeze. Do a hardreset and keep in mind what you install to your phone - 1.66 itself definitely is not responsible for your issue...

Thank you very much for your suggestions.
I will try a hard reset
there still seems to be a major issue
when you watch the discussion on the subject in handy-faq.de.
I personally do have some trouble with this too.
Did anyone investigate where this could come from?
The device is idle for 1 - 2 hours in the pocket, if you press a button, the button lights are on but no reaction. The only way is take the akku out and reboot.
I am running starbase64 ROM latest version and am getting sick with this.
Any ideas guys?
Hi guys!
I'm experiencing a serious problem with my X10: Using the stock camera app causes (50% and more of times) a reboot of the device
I'm still stuck with the R1FA016 firmware (Spanish, Movistar) and i thougt this could be the problem since nobody seems to have a so bad experience
Today i tried the Vignette app on the market and the bug is still there... what could be the problem?
Thank you.

If you're using a task killer, check out you are not killing any camera app.
No i'm not killing camera app... (anyway, atk is set to kill apps every half hour)
I just formatted the phone and the bug seems to be still here... rebooting occours even if, in Mediascape i try to view taked photos!!!

Then, try one more thing: uninstall ATK, reboot the phone and let it handle the RAM as it is supposed to.
Perhaps ATK is the culprit! I know it caused me a great deal of problems in the past, until I finally realised that task managers do more harm than good on android operating systems.
@sleepyManX1
the update is out already try OTA update......
I also tried to insert photo app and some services (such as facerecognition) in atk ingore list... the bug is still here
So i'm trying this way: disable atk from autostart...

I've tried a lot of task killers/managers and at the end something started not to work properly. Since i don't use them everything is always ok! I recommend not to use them!!
Hi guys!
Any suggestion about this issue?
(I restored factory settings again and did not install any task manager/killer... still the bug is here )
Try to re-install firmaware using SEUS Wish you all the best
Yes... seems to be the only way... and i think i will flash the phone with a generic italian firmware... maybe the problem is in the movistar brand...
I just need a windows pc... (i've a ppc ibook... so no virtualization possible!)

I also have this problem with my desire, apparently after a search in XDA, problem exists in Nexus one (which is like HTC desire anyway) and HTC G1, G2.
seems no solution yet, I flashed my phone and installed the latest radio and a custom rom, still no solution.
hope someone can fix it
sleepyman x1 i too am on the same firmware as u and get the exact same problem im on three network uk, iv tried everything and nothing seems to solve it,,,, the only thing iv found that helps the camera bot up next time is when finished using the camera is to press the back button to exit camera mode and not to use the home button,
hope this is some help to you,
any updates of this would be great, the update doesnt seem to be there for my reigon yet, ( According to SE anyway ) they pretty much told me to sit tight and wait for he 2.1 in the last 4 mths of this yr

I'll try this... but i'm really going to flash my x10 with a generic or an italian firmaware.
Thank you.
PS. Just today forced SEUS to reinstall my original firmware and the bug is still here... in the next days i'll try with an X10i_Generic_Italian (X10i_Custom_IT_Release_R2BA026)...
Let me kno how u get on bud. ?? Would like to see the out come
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Be sure that i'll keep you informed
I also have "reboot" problem, but my phone reboots random - sometimes when I use Google Maps, sometimes when finish phone call, even sometimes when the phone is idle. I tried factory reset several times, updated to latest firmware (currently R2BA026) but no luck.
These days I will go to my local SE support center, I have no choice ...
All, I just repeated my flashing of the last official upgrade posted on Oct 19th 2010 for the HD2 in the HTC web page, Support area. It makes the unit go TERRIBLY SLOW ALL THE TIMES!!, the memory consumption can arrive up to 90% with NO APPLICATION OPEN!!!!!!!! IT IS A DISASTER!! I think that if HTC see a forum here it will pay attention and remove that upgrade from web page. At least for the Chezck region. The phone said it had an amount of memory free when you installed programs, but when you went to see the value in the About area, the numbers were very different. I just moved back to the previous version.
you have hspl installed still, would be my guess.
if not, do a hard reset and start over. perhaps even flash it again.
Sir 90% of the problems on the latest stock Rom 3.14, isn't the fold of Device/Rom
But the user!
Stock Rom 3.14 isn't compatible with HSPL.
Is this a problem of HTC??? No!!!
Because this is a product create by users not support by HTC.
I've been using it for2 wks and I find it extremely stable and very fast. So except for some bugs n issues that I've already reported to HTC hoping for a hotfix soon (lack of slide down menu and inability to use other phone features during a phone call, poor radio reach/higher battery drain being a couple of ones that bother me the most), it's worth giving it a try if you want a speedy and crash free experience for a while.
Btw, in my case, the upgrade was from stock ROM 1.66, and no HSPL/cooked Roms ever installed.
Tethering with Rom 3.14?
Does the new rom permit tethering via Tools/Internet Sharing?

Hi mandel4026,
I wonder why do you doubt the 'Tethering' option in the HTC official ROM upgrade.
The HTC website mentions:
'Tethering:
* Internet Sharing through USB or Bluetooth
* Wi-Fi Router'
as it's specification. I believe that they wouldn't turn-off the feature this ways through a ROM upgrade.
mandel is worried that he thinks since tmobile will charge seperately for tethering now, the new rom upgrade for tmobile will have the function bundled to tmobile applications and not as default in device tools like in roms elsewhere outside the US...i think it may not be the case, mandel

I have updated to 3.4 and on the whole it works great but I also have the issue that in a call there is no slide down menu as in the prvious and none of the functions work - not even bringing up the keypad or putting it on speaker!!
Has anybody found a fix for this or do we need to wait for a hotfix from HTC??

Ho! that's really stable then
Minor issues, who wants to use the phone features or bother about radio or battery efficiency??
I see that the HTC support are still doing good...
PS: do yourself a favor, replace their "romgarbage" and try some on this forum.
I had Artemis 29 for months with nearly no issues. It also solved all HTC rom issue I had!

Ok, I gotta admit I use another phone for calls usually, son HD2 isn't my primary phone for that matter.
I'm still on the fence about cooked Roms, I believe they aren't bug free either and besides, I'm worried about software conflicts (?), so I'm not sure. Not to mention all the hassle if ever needed to revert to stock roms. I guess a bit of 'bricking' phobia too.
