Hey guys, I discovered that the phone application crashes if I talk on the phone for more than an hour in a row. I repeated the experiment several times and got the same thing : gwes.exe has encountered an error and needs to be closed... The screen will not respond anymore nor the softkeys, You should open the back cover and reset it by pressing the red buttons. I did read several threads about gwes.exe memory leak and the possibility that the application may eat system resources with time.
I come from a Hard reset.. Just fresh stock ROM and tried to repeat the process.. Again, system crashes. Any idea ?

Hi everyone,
Need some advise / help here please.
I have tried most of the new ROMS on my XDA IIs (and they are all awesome), but when I start wifi (using newer cabs as suggested through out various other threads), it runs fine for an undefined amount of time and then it will simply black screen on me.
I press the reset button and it restarts, but shows R NONE and G NONE. I then perform a hard reset and shows normal. System restarts and then goes black screen on me. After several more reboots, it will finally stay up, until the wifi (more often than not) starts or sometimes it can be random on an app.
When installing new ROMS, I have cleared the HIVE and formatted the storage.
Anyone able to shed some light on my black screening device
i`ve had this issue too. my BA unexpectedly crashed wile working with various applications. it happened because of the old battery. try another if u can find one.

Hi
I've had this issue with some of WM6 roms.
It may be WIFI related. Because it always happened after some unlucky attempt to start WLAN. (and then after warm reset, wifi tried to start during startup causing another crash).
It's only my suggestion.
You may be experiancing some worse battery / hardware related stuff.
If it's persistent, try downgrading to some WM2003 that is familiar to you, and see if the problem is still there.
Cheers,

Hi everybody
Many times, after powering on my HTC, I get this message : " There was a problem with device.exe".
Since then, the device is blocked
At this point, the only way to unblock it is with a soft reset.
Any idea to solve this problem ?
Thanks
Hopefully this is a software related bug. What applications have you installed, maybe it is some kind of incompatibility. Did you already did a hard-reset?
Otherwise you should try to flash a cooked rom, or at least the latest official rom.
i get this problem sometimes as well but only after ive used coreplayer 1.2.5
It could be, I have Core Player 1.2.5 installed too.
I have Coreplayer 1.whatever too.
also, I've been noticing problems with cprog.exe and services.exe along with device.exe.
i had the self same problem.. but i dunno where it came from. it happened a few hours after i bought it, i barely had any apps on there...
i just disabled the error message ^^ phone works fine though...

I have gyrator installed, that's true... but I always close it(it is shutdowned) every time,so I think it cannot influence other active programs...so these errors should have other causes
help for me
i had the problem too. When i made a hardreset after the configuration of the device, the phone will configure the data connection. At this point i cancelled and configured the data connection myself.
At this point the problem with device.exe was gone.
Data connection / device.exe issue
Hi, a while abck i had some problems with services.exe crashing frequently. Even after a hard reset the problem persisted and there was nothing i could do to resolve it. However over time the error stopped occuring.
Now I am having a different issue. A few days ago i started to get a problem with my data connection, it would show as being active and connected but it would not send or receive any data at all. Tried this using Opera and google maps wouldnt download anything. The rpoblem would be disappear after a soft reset but then after the phone went to sleep and awoke it would re-appear.
Now i have started to get frequent device.exe crashes and after this happens my data connection stops working alltogether until i soft reset. But then the program will crash a variable amount of time later. I have not installed anything recently since this started happening. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to the crashes like I have read about on other threads, it has happened while watching the youtube app, browsing the web or simply waking up the phone and having the error report waiting for me.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions from what I have described? I am a bit unwilling to Hard Reset as this did nothing for my previous errors and having read other articles on device.exe errors this did not help others.
Thanks for any help!
device.exe
Same thing for me. Sometimes the data icon appear grayed. When activesync try to connect, device.exe crashed.
The only solution I found is to install addintimer and program task \windows\replog.exe /remote/all/h
Not very elegant but it works. Bug appeared after I updated ROM with official HTC Rom
MOD EDIT
I've merged 2 threads as both on same topic
After doing more reading i found that people on other winmo devices were getting this error on wakeup due to a problem with GPS.
After racking my brains thinking what could cause it i remembered i had lattitude on google maps. Since i've disabled this *touch wood* i've had no more crashes.
spoke to soon. device lasted 2 days instead of a few hours though.. progress at least :/
Same prob here....
Cant turn on wifi, bluetooth and cant connect via usb. Soft and hardreseted also flashed with its preinstalled orange firmware(ofcourse done with sd flashing). Same problems all time.
Is it hardware or software related???
BR
i have same problem but it appeared after hard reset and with out any installs
so i performed another hard rest till now its fine
Everytime error device.exe..
Every connection to pc it shows device.exe error.
I think its hardware
Do anybody help me? After changing old Manila theme I restore again the old one but the problem is 1. The volume icon disapeared when tap the left side volume heardware button . 2. the core plaryer 1.3.2 ver running without sound. How could I can solve this p[roblem?
I am about to got nuts. Though I love my HD2, it has this one bug that is driving me cracy:
Sometimes, when it crashes and I remove the battery or push the little red "Reset" button in the back, the phone goes into an endless restart or reboot cycle. It will power up, go through the start up procedure until it is time for "Sense" to start and then just turn itself off and start the whole reboot procedure over. There is nothing I can do to stop this, except remove the battery - if I were to let it continue, it would keep rebooting itself all day long or until the battery is dead.
Does anybody have a suggestion as to what may be causing this problem?
P.S.: Up to now, the only thing I can do to stop this cycle, is to do a Hard Reset and reinstall everything.
(Still on the 1.43 ROM, since T-Mobile in Germany has not supplied the update to 1.48)
Looks like HTC Tech-Support has no clue and recommends returning the phone for service.
Are there any programs in your Windows/startup folder?
I've had a similar problem a long time ago with my previous HTC Phone (a wizard WM5) the phone was not faulty, it was one of the programs I had installed, so after a Hard reset everything wa fine until I installed again the program (sorry, I forgot what it was) and at the next soft reset...It took me a long time to find it out, since I tend to have a list of favorite programs which I install first thing after each hard reset.
If you do a hard reset but don't install any software, does it still happen?
I only ask as it may be some software that's installed on the phone that is causing the problem, rather than a fault with the phone itself.
Thanks everyone
I do not really know if it does the same thing without software, but it does come at different times. The last time it happened for example, I had just selected a new ringtone from the pre-installed ones and hit "Accept". Prior to that time I was installing .net 3.5 when it crashed and started looping, prior to that I was playing the pre-installed Teeter game.

If it's that random, I'd recommend getting in touch with the manufacturer and arranging a replacement.
Must be damn annoying
reboot cycle - same problem on my HD2
Hello lrsthmp
I have the same problem with my HD2.
Did you find a solution?
Do you have any advice?
Thanks
best wishes Uli
Regrettfully...
... no. I am living with it and have become very religious about backing up. "MyPhone" from Microsoft has become a very important tool for me as a result, because I am having to reinstall quite often.
I had the same thing happen to me after the system froze and I pulled the battery, here is what I found.
There are 3 power pins and during the battery pull and put back in I must have slightly bent one of the pins out of position. I gently put it in line with the other pins, put the battery back in and it started right up.
Careful pulling that battery, it sucks that we even have to do this.
I got the following very weird problem..
when i yesterday went out of a club i noticed that my phone was off even if my battery was abt 60 percent..(running android) well i wanted to turn it on agian - nothing.. battery in / out , on again...
but the little problem was that in Winmob Sense couldnt get activated anymore (homesettings etc.) it starts loading sense but the screen stays blanc... a soft reset didnt solve the problem, even 10 didnt..
when i then booted android again .. the boot took about 15 minutes EVERY time.. instead of the usual 1 minute..
i formatted SD card now.. still all the same...
what should i do?? Please help!!!!
is a hardreset the only thing that could help? and if... do i have to b aware of anything? i mean i changed my radio etc.? does is affect the hardreset?
Try rebooting your phone without the sd card in it, and if Sense doesn't load up after a couple minutes, but still says 'Launching HTC Sense' up top of the screen, try pressing your start button, and then exiting your start menu by pressing the 'X' button at the top right of your screen. I have installed apps/done modifications to Sense that caused Sense to behave like that before, and sometimes this helps. If that still doesn't help Sense to load, you may have to do a hard reset, but I seriously doubt it had anything to do with running Android.
whether i do a HR or installing a new rom makes no difference right?
well the thing is.. i didnt install any apps in the last few month u know..?
what the hack is that...
Hi guys, sorry for may poor english, it's not my mothertongue.
I have an irritate problem with recent apps windows After device's restart everything goes. well. Hour or less in "hard" app like Candy Crush or any other game and problem appears. When I press on recently app button the window appears for couple of seconds and crashes. I need to press again to rise it up. Sometimes it's happen, sometimes not, I didn't find a rule for using a specific app before 100% crashing, in each case it's different. Wiping a cash partition helps for couple of hours, it begins again. I did a factory reset - no result, half day of using and problem returns. Installing a stock ROM didn't help too, crashing returns after day of using. I almost sure the problem is not hardware, I have an opportunity to use device after flashing a stock ROM at least day before problem returns. My device isn't rooted, didn't make any modifications - installed clear stock ROM.
Any thoughts?
Thank's for your answers.
