keypad lock - Touch HD General

hi, i'm having trouble getting my touch hd to lock the keypad. i've searched the forum for similar threads but cant find too much. I've followed the advice of people in other threads.
I have tried a soft reset, and a hard reset. Gone to settings changed the End Button properties. But still cant get it to lock. In the End Button i have set it to show a quick menu. On this when i click the Lock Keypad, there is a couple second delay, then the screen flashes (as if it has done something) but the keypad is still not locked.
Anyone help me out??

Not sure why your End button isn't working after you hold it down to lock.
However, you do have many other options for locking your device.
For example you can can use LockMeLite. Or use HD Tweak and set Autolock to enable so everytime your backlight goes off the device is automatically locked.
There is also various other options if you search a bit more

Seen this happen on Windows mobile phones before.
Do you happen to use a PIN code to unlock your phone?
If you do, this interferes with the screen lock facility.
Try disabling the PIN lock (Settings/Lock) and you will probably find it will then start to work.
Don't know of a way around this problem but someone else may..

Locking / S2U2 / Stand by questions

Hi folks
I'm back again with some more dumb questions (bear with me - I'm Irish).
On my old Nokia, I could lock the phone by pressing 2 keys and hey presto, phone now safe!
With the HD, things seem a bit complex. Firstly, there's power managenent that controls how long the back light stays on for and how long the phone stays on for before going into stand by.
Q1. Is standby not another form of locking ? If so why not just press th epower button whenever you want to lock the phone and be done with it ?
Then there is the built in locking software that comes with the app.
Q2. Whats the problem with this? (i.e. long pressing the end key and choosing 'Lock the device'; Why do we even need S2U2 ?
Then there's S2U2 itself. The settings page is long and complex.
Q3. Is there a S2U2 manual anywhere ? (to explain some of those ambiguous settings)
Finally, and here is my most important question...
Q4. Can I use my HD like I used to use my Noika - i.e. press a key or 2 to lock the goddam phone an just be done with it ?
As it is, when I want to use my phone, I have to press the power button to take it out of standby, and then I have to slide the S2U2 unlock switch. Its a lot of hassle just to make a phone call.
Is it me? Am I that stupid? What am I doing wrong ? What am I missing ?
Doesn't pressing the "End call" button for 2-3 seconds also lock the phone?
Regards!
I do understand what you're saying. I figured out something really basic just the other day, that is if your phone is locked or in sleep mode just pull out your stylus and it'll unlock and wake up.
Just 1 movement.
Sorry if this is really common knowledge and you already know this but sometimes we overlook the more basic functions on such a complex device!!
Cheers
DB
Power button into standby is a fine lock for me. Nearly impossible to accidently knock the power button to turn it back on.

I like how the phone unlocks when you take the stylus out but i didnt like how it locks the phone when you put the stylus back in, so i removed that function using the options in gyrator
I have got TOUCH HD since 1week.
I haven't problem with touch hd like touch diamond.
it is in my pocket but the new phone canvas and the sensitive key prenve nt missing call.
for me no need s2u2 or pocket shield like diamond.

Standby locking
I also "lock" my phone by sending it to standby with the power button. This seems to work realy good for me. The only problem is that the HD wakes up if someone is calling. So i often answer a call by accident. Does anyone know a way to deactivate the automatic wake up?
I tried the registry hack with autolocking but this doesn't work for calls either.

Should the device lock when I put the stylus in? I get the impression from this thread that it should but mine doesn't?

Locking the screen????

I have read here that when you hold down the end call key the screen should lock. Whenever I try this my screen flashes black but the handset never actually becomes locked. Anyone else experienced this? I've tried a hard reset and i've checked all the settings and cant understand why this is happening. For now I am using the on/off button to put it into hibernation but when you recieve a text in this mode the device fires up and therefore could start phoning people in my pocket if I dont notice it vibrate - not really ideal.
Any ideas on this would be much appreciated.

Same this is happening on mine
would be nice to know a solution
I'm assuming that you have checked in Settings that you have the End Key set up to lock the device when you hold it down? If you have then it sounds as though you have a PIN set up on the phone. There is a bug with the HD that means the End Key won't lock the phone if a PIN has been set up. You should find that if you remove the PIN then the End Key will lock the device.
I hope this helps. I find it rather annoying as I would like to have both features in place so I am hoping HTC eventually release a hotfix for this. Fingers crossed!

Thanks alot for the post mate. I wasnt aware of this bug. I tried changing the pin settings and it then worked. Thats a shame you cant get both. I guess ill just need to settle for a pin and pocket shield =)

ARGH! Any way to disable the Start Menu's "Lock" button or make it not appear?

ARGH! Any way to disable the Start Menu's "Lock" button or make it not appear?
I had an interesting problem that basically results in all data loss if it happens. On a particular Blue Angel I was working on, the touch screen somehow lost its calibration. In attempting to get to the calibration menu, the wonky screen somehow hit "Lock" on the bottom left corner of the Start Menu, and the device locked. Since the touchscreen became uncalibrated there was NO WAY for me to touch the tiny area and slide it properly. Thus I could not unlock the device even though LOCK is something that I NEVER EVER USE. I had to hard reset and lost all data. In WM2003, this would never have been a problem! I imagine if someone does use device lock, a screen decalibration incident would result in all data loss too which is unacceptable!
I tried the classic style lock screen which requires less precision but it still involves the need to touch a specific screen area in order to unlock it.
Is there any way to get rid of the Lock option in the Start Menu competely? A registry key perhaps? I want NOTHING to do with the device lock feature, it just seems to cause more problems and data loss than anything else. Any suggestions?
I believe that I have seen a post or two regarding the soft keys for the Start Menu. I'll see if I can find them.
On a side note, please refrain from opening new threads with questions. There is a Q&A thread at the top of this section for this kind of inquiries. I will transfer your question over there. Thanks.
anybody figure this out? i really would like to know
Lock sucks. If you have the phone locked, and get an incoming call - it doesn't unlock automatically, and there is no way to unlock it on the 'answer phone' screen.
So - you cannot get an incoming call if you use lock.
i dont even use it. i use pocketshield but i dont want the lock button to turn on PS, i want it either gone or to have it set up as a "back" button.
Has anybody managed to get rid of that damn button ? I have been looking around the forum for ages and still can't find a way to get rid of it.

Buttons active in suspend mode!!

Hi All
On all my previous HTC devices when I was switchin the device off with power button none of other buttons were active. So pressing them did nothing. Only way to wake the device up was to press power button.
On Leo that is not the case. Now I remember that option was somewhere in windows but it appears to not be there anymore. When I have phone in pocket volume still works so it goes up and down. It also today somehow managed to unlocked it self when in poclet of my motorbike leathers including sliding the screen to unlock. Then it started calling hte wrong person while I was on m-way. Not a good thing.
Any idea where that option is?!
Only way i have found around this is to install S2U2 and set slide to answer as only way to answer phone. This disables buttons when there is a call. There is also a cab file you can install to set s2u2 as the default unlock screen.

If you are unlocking the lock screen, by sliding the slider all the way to one side, whilst it is in your pocket, then I suggest you get a priest to exorcise your pocket. This simply is not possible without your intervention.
I would suggest that you have come across the common (and very documented on this forum) problem of the lock screen not actually locking your device fully.
This is a known problem, with a 100% effective solution. Before you start a journey (which is obviously where this is most problematic for you) click start and then lock (the bottom left soft key). This re-enables the hardware lock. After that, it will work.

My pocket is ghost free, as it is made of leather and in rain can get a bit moist it does work a bit on the screen.
Also if I select start and click lock all buttons still work.

Yes, but you need to slide to unlock if the lock screen is working correctly. This will not happen by accident, in your pocket.
You can only unlock your phone with the hardware buttons if the known issue of the lock screen rears it's ugly head.
Doing what I said, before each journey, will make sure that you cannot unlock the screen with a simple button-press.
Since installing S2U2 a few days ago I've had even worse problems with ghost unlocks than before.
Previously the only issue was accidentally cutting calls off, but with S2U2 I had a text from a friend on Friday asking if I was drunk. Somehow, whilst locked in my pocket it unlocked and sent a gibberish sms!
Then today, it also somehow unlocked in my pocket and dialled my mum!
I'm just glad I wasn't playing Call of Duty when it happened or she would have just heard "Sh1t!!! You cheating f***!!! WTF??? You..... FFS!!!!" etc
But seriously - I love S2U2 from previous winmo phones but it's made my HD2 worse so I've uninstalled it tonight sadly.

You're not as bad as me when I play COD/MW2 then, or you would have made several references to "the C word" lol

Well it took me all but 45 min to realise my problem is still there with s2u2 but other things are even worse so back to stock lock.
I am quite certain that option must still be in there. It was a tick box that stated lock all buttons except power button.

locking on vanilla android 2.1

hi,
i have the following problem.
If you lock your phone via hang up key you can simply activate it via home button (press twice).
I desperatly look for a possibility to deactivate this behavior, cause i already phoned like 1 hour accidentially with this "bug".
Any help appreciated!
I think setting up lock pattern will help. Even if the phone wakes up it won't be able to make calls or other unwanted stuff.
i have the standard unlocking slider, which is really fine.
the problem is that you can go around it with the home button.
so i think using a patting will not help
i have to disable the home button while the screen is off or something.

You can't "go around" the lock pattern with home button. So the device still can wake up in your pocket but can't make a phone call
I think this is the only real workaround for this problem (apart from building your own kernel with altered button mapping)
