Am sure that i have seen this somewhere but i searched to no avail.
When making a call the screen will still turn off, which means if i want to do anything during the call i have to push the power button on the side of the device to turn it back on to hangup etc.
Any Ideas ??
I thought this was a good thing. The screen turns off in order to save the battery. If you want it back on you just tap the power button and do whatever you want to do. If it stayed on for entire phone calls you would end up with very short battery life.
However, there may be a registry edit that can lengthen this time or make it stay on for the entire call. I just wouldn't recommend it.
For me, hanging up works when the screen is off. I think.
thanks guys, i just came from the phone world and i suppose i want my PDA to have the same battery life as the old nokia, but i also want all the cool pda features.
Just not going to happen.

it does, just carry a couple of extra batteries and you're set. Now the question is would you trade this for that?
pressing the end call button works when the screen is off

Funny thing is i would carry the batteries. I got off ebay and ordered for my boss and myself car kit, batteries, and docking station with battery charger. So for the time that im not @ my desk or in the car we should be set.
Mine doesn't turn off during calls, but i do turn it off manually with the power button so my ear doesn't open apps during the call.
Mine doesnt turn off either, is this a rom specific or am i missing an option somewhere, at the moment i press the power button on the side when i make a call, cos im forever pressing the screen and opening stuff, then have to close it all when the call ends, let me know what im missing out on
Neil.
I WANT my screen to turn off when phoning..
How do I set this up?
Hey,
I think this is the same "timeout" that you have set for your screen to turn off in the powersave feature. I haven't looked, but I think it only turns the backlight off, not the screen.
Unfortunately the hermes screen is hard to see AT ALL when the backlight is off. Some past devices I had, you could still READ during daylight.
HTH
ok i find it funny that nobody thinks that it is anoying as fk that the screen turns off if you are calling say to activate a card or any automated answering service and need to type numbers in you dont have access to it ..so I guess I will re ask the question is there a reg hack to make the screen stay on while in a call any help would be nice ty

you should follow the steps in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3227589&postcount=5
HI, I'd love such a function. the screen automatically turn off while answering a call and turn on while hang up the phone.
but i tried both adavanced config 3.3 and HDTWEAK. they both dont work.
is there any other way to make this happen??? most of guys love this fucntions. IPHONE has this func. lol
thank you guys!
I think this happens normaly on HD. The opposite we are looking for and I know tha up to now nobody has succeded yet
it's a pity. hopw somebody could make it happens. lol
I did notice that the behavior is not always consistant.
What happens is sometimes after i make the call, it turns the screen of a second after I click the call button, while sometimes, it takes as long as it is needed to get a "connected" state for the call and having actualy the phone up next to my head!!
I have big problems when i speak in the phone, almost everytime i hang up a few apps have started. Is there a way to deactivate the touchscreen or something when a call is active?
Simply press the power button to deactivate the screen.
Am I missing something?
I always had this till I realized you could turn the screen off during a call. I have a few programs installed, Inesoft being one of them. I believe it's that which auto turns my screen off when I accept an incoming call.

Thanks, that sounds great. I will check it out!
XperiaTweek has an option for this too afaik
please correct me if I am wrong, but i think the Xperia default setting is that the screen IS turned off during a call!
Xperia Tweak offered the option to switch this off and leave the screen on

Think you're right
Do you know the registry key behind this?
if someone can make a program to relate the light sensor with the screen off, coz when am using my BT headset i dont want my screen to be off and when i dont use it i want the screen to be off, so if has a light sensor we should utilize it saying "during a call when u see light dont go off coz it means he is using BT headset otherwise screen is off" or if we can know from BT activity, again a program saying if ur using phone then off is ur using BT Headset then dont off"
regards

Wouldn't it be easier to tell x1 not to screen off when using a Bluetooth headset? or when wired headset is plugged in? But you idea sounds cool too.
it would only the application that does that requires a restart switching between options which makes it a bit inconvenient

I mean X1 does it automatically with my idea. ??
Wouldn't it be easier to to write a program for X1 to know when there's a bluetooth/wired headset connection then mess with the light sensor?
But either would be cool....if possible.
My X1's screen is switched ON by default when I get a call. Its pretty annoying actually.
FURTHERMORE, I've got a password lock on it. So if I speak longer than 5 mins (thats the limit I put for the password), then when I end the call, it asks me for the unlock code before I can see the today screen again!!
Can someone tell me if there's a solution to this??
Thanks
Ok guys I am searching but i need my screen to lock when im on a call i even managed to get into comm manager today and put the phone into flight mode what the hell ?? lol
when u put the phone to your ear, the proximity sensor should automaticaly turn off the screen.
It does but sometimes if i change ear if im on a call for a long time obv the screen comes on its just annoying i have even cut a few people off, surely im not the only person who cant take a call properly lol

THIS!!!
Absolutely ridiculous.
actually... sometimes i dial a number and put it to my ear... and when it starts ringing the screen comes on... i hate this... anyone knows why?... the sensor is fully covered...
Same problem...I already opened a thread for this, but no solution (apparently)
It's really annoying!
It would be just great if we had a menu button to turn it off again.
Contacted HTC, waiting for reply.
They replied that this is a normal behavior and nothing else we can do, onoly find some app which does that.
Any ideas?

@ EgoMaximus
good find im trying it now seems to do the trick,
Try InCallLock as well
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556801 disables hardware buttons, good when taking phone out of the pocket or so.
so i deleted that app, what happened to my slidey lock screen?
Pocketshield can do that.
See an in-call demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMf8C5k7TGM#t=0m55s
Does the hardware windows key then 'lock' in the bottom left not do it?
i think wețre deviating from the main problem... out of the box HD2 SHOULD know to "close" the screen when in a call and covering the proximity sensor...
for me it does this as supposed but not always....
normal behaviour... make a call... put the phone to the ear... as long as the phone has the sensor covered the screen stays off
my random behaviour.... press call... put the phone to my ear (the sensor fully covered)... the screen turns off... when it starts ringing the screen goes on.... i take the phone away from the ear and put it back... the screen goes back off.... when the other end answers the screen goes back on... putting the phone away and back to the ear turns the screen off again.....
THIS DRIVES ME CRAZY!!!

+1000000 Since I have my HD2 I read all the forum to find a solution.
This is the only message I can read I find someone really boring with this problem. This is for me the problem Number 1 of the HD2.... the only one in fact .
I saw o lot of nice CAB for HD2, a lot of nice tweak etc... So why can't we find a CAB or why HTC make a patch for this boring bug..
Are we the only 2 HD2 owner to be really bore ?
this really p!sses me off too! during the lat 3 calls i accidentially hung up at least 3x per call will try the cab posted earlyer.
i just don't get it why is so hard to provide this feature wich is on every standard rom...
HTC Roms will not do that by default, neither the WM standard lock. You need a 3rd party screen locker
oh yes they do... with my stock rom when in call there is a courtain over all the buttons like mute, speaker etc... when that courtain is active nothing works except the start/end call and slide the courtain to gain acces to other buttons... so the uper bar is not activated if touched....
Vibrate on call connect! How i can enable this feature in legend?

no, at least
not in my device. Others can u pls confirm?
Standard on mine.
But where do you turn this on/ off, that's the question.
May be i didnt express myself clearly. I'd have X1i earlier and if the recepient attends/answers my call, then the phone used to vibrate. I'm trying to find similar thing in Lenged, but so far i didnt succeed .
You did express yourself clearly, it's the answer that's bad. I also don't know how to switch this on. Can somebody explain? It doesn't help when you tell us that it's working on your Legend without telling us where to switch it on.
It's not I am hiding anything... but it works out of the box.
As such, I am not able to tell you how to "turn it on" and I never did so... but I'll spend some time to day to see if there's an option somewhere.
vibrate
@smnrock: i think only selected phones have that. mine's from Taiwan but doesn't vibrate also. and yeah, there's no option to turn it on or off.
Ok, i got what was the issue, perhaps its not a issue and its intelligence(HTC or Android?).
Phone vibrates(ofcourse there is no on-off option or so far i didnt find) only when its not in the ear position(talking position). Also if you keep it in talking position(near by ear) then the back light also switched off(this you might found already) and when we move the phone to different position(away from ear), then back lights also switched on and vibration too when call is answered.
NICE FEATURE isn't?
vibrate on call
hey it's very nice! i just realized it now when i tried it haha HTC is really brilliant. they made that option so that whenever the phone is not in your ears you will know when someone answered already
