Shift WinXP Master Guide - Docs, Software & ROM - Shift General

After about a month of testing, documenting, collecting and sorting, I've created a Master Guide to Liberate, ROM Upgrade to GPS + Phone and Install Windows XP from scratch. All step-by-step documentation and software are available here via download with no 10 download limit. Note: I've modified the Windows Post Install process by dproldan, removing the spanish ActiveSync and replacing with English version. Modified scripts to create cleaner install in sub-directories with easy to read .bat files. Also auto creates SnapVue reset .bat file (useful).
Required: Guides, Liberate, HardSPLFinal, Rom, Windows Post Install, GPS Software.

A lot of work was put into creating this full comprehensive package, so if you redistribute, credit or thanks is appreciated to "maestro2mil".

thanks
thanks.i will try to do all of them.

great job , please add a link to all cabs available for htc on your first post, this will complete the list ! the link is on xda wikipedia

I've added a link on XDA Wiki to this post, hope I got it right. Glad to contribute, this is a great site!

Thanks a lot!

Hi. Great job and thanks for doing what I was too lazy to do! It's just a shame it's about three weeks too late for my first successful XP install though I've bookmarked the link for next time though!
One favour to ask: Can you post the SnapVue reset file separately, as I'm loathe to sit through the entire install process again, simply to get an easy way to reset the WinMo side from XP.
Thanks

This is excellent! I'm planning on purchasing a CDMA shift for my sprint contract. I do have one question tho.
Upgrading/downgrading the Windows OS from Vista to XP has nothing to do with GSM or CDMA correct? So this will work on the CDMA version?

respect! That´s rule
Thank you

The SnapVue reset batch file basically uses the "ecshift.exe" program found at this post, so nothing special, just put it in the package for easy installation and access. I'd recommend you image your system so you don't have to re-install again from scratch.
To image the shift I used 1) BartPE WinXP bootable CD or WinPE/XP Live CD 2) External CD-ROM, 3) External USB HD & 4) Ghost32.exe (Ghost 11) program. A lot of external stuff, but it works beautifully.

Thanks for the credit, it goes to more than just myself.. many contributors. As far as downgrading from Vista to XP, no, pretty sure it doesn't affect your Phone/CDMA functionality. The ROM upgrade could though.

Could you please point me towards a working link for downloading Tablet PC Patch for Windows XP Pro w/SP2? I desperately need that patch.

Vista and WM6

Anybody install Helmi's ROM from Windows Vista?
I have trouble/ When i start bootloder on my BA, PC don't connect to mobile device
And i can't install ROM
I try install activesync, but that is impossible
You can't use RUU on vista with the built in drivers unfortunately.
There is a thread (search for it) and you will find out how to get it working.
Hey guys there is a WIKI!
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM6_WizzardMain
I spend so many hours and nobody follow the wiki
But I am gonna to finish it cause I like the wizard style
Thanks anybody
I complete this task
For any body who need's:
how to upgrade ROM from VISTA
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291723
Upgrade is done with the old activesync drivers ... thats why i hate vista, you have to do a lot of stuff to reach your goal
I conferm that the rom upgrade never worked on my pc with Vista. I was forced to use my laptop with Xp. I think someone should make blueangel update utilities compatible with Vista too
Or just keep an XP virtual machine in a safe place
i will post the steps for vista upgrade later, because i am lil busy
xplode?
Have you read the wiki already?) There is nice step by step tutorial - however if you can make some pictures It would be much better!
Follow the instructions in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291723&highlight=vista
I upgrade my ROMS in Vista using this method and it works every time.
i will made guide with pichtures but it will be after 5-6 hours , because i only have time at night

Try to remove SD from your device b4 do the flashing.
Thats right SD card should be removed before flash (device may not go into "USB" mode when "cradled")
However I have made PICTURES and added them to the wiki (they are quite big and it doesnt look very well) but will improve it later

Have you had any problems with your WLAN Marvell sd8686. I can not seem to get mine to work correctly. It seems to have some problem with it. When I go to connect to a network. It does not show any of the 4 networks that should be in range. 1 sits 2 feet away. I have tried everything com manager turn off and on, reinstall device, restart, Format and reinstall Vista. It was working for the first day then I turned it off and back on after that I have had to mess with it like restarting etc. It works sometimes and others it doesnt. I tried to find new drivers but cant seem too. I called HTC europe support but they are closed. Any Help would be great.

This is exactly what I am finding....WiFi has somehow died a natural death, or been nullified by some activity I may have been doing (lots of reinstalls etc)....
Did you find any help? Thanks
https://phatpipez.homeftp.org/HTCShift/Shift/
just check my stuff, maybe it will help.
its always good to make an Acronis backup of your working shift.
this way you can restore it easily.
Thanks - that's very nice of you to provide those d/l's.
If you, or anyone else is running XP can you confirm the following for me in terms of the WiFi card setup from control panel?
Device Manager-Network adaptors - Marvell sd8686 - advanced
802.11bg Ad Hoc - not present
802.11D Support - disable
-Everything else "Not Present" except
Radio Off - Enable Radio
Does this match whateveryone else has listed under this Advanced tab?
For network I have configured everything to be basic/normal...taken firewall off so there's no blockages there...
Thanks
HTC shift (clio 160)

But since i done this, wifi and touchscreen doesnt work anymore.
I went on HTC website and downloaded the drivers for MARVELL SD8686 WIRELESS LAN SDIO ADAPTER and driver for touchscreen but it still not working.

Iolite XDA Guide Windows Drivers Needed

Hello
I have an O2 XDA Guide - also known as Iolite - also known as Touch Cruise 09 or Touch Cruise 2 !!!
I need the windows drivers for this mobile phone. It works automatically on my laptop (running Win XP) and my PC (running Windows 7) but I wanted to use the internet connection sharing option on somebody else's laptop yesterday and it wouldn't download the device drivers from windows update automatically.
Therefore, I was hoping somebody could point me to where I can download the required XP and Win 7 drivers from or could post the drivers to this forum. I can then put them on the phone's memory card and will be able to install them to any laptop I want to use Internet Connection Sharing on.
Many thanks, Paul
Hi!
You need activesync installed to use the network sharing function. It will not work without that.

Question about TabletPC Patch installation

Hi everybody!
I finally have come to a satisfactory end with the installation of WinXP Home SP3 on my HTC Shift.
Nevertehless, while having the XP features running nomally, I got trouble starting the TabletPC side of the things, i.e.:
1. There is an icon for the on-screen keyboard "Tablet PC Input Panel" in the taskbar (on the r/h side) but it doesn't open-up anything.
2. I also have this "Get going with TabletPC" in Start Menu/Programs, but clicking it doesn't start anything.
3. During Windows start-up or shut-down I can see the on-screen keyboard for several seconds.
I wonder if this is a due to a faulty install of the TabletPC patch or something else that I did wrong. I remember that after installing the patch I had a special welcome screen of the TabletPC offering 2 options to follow - one was "Get going with TabletPC" and another one I can't remeber the name of. Anyway, I did not chose any option, I just closed that screen and went ahead with the installation of the drivers. So far I did not find a way to start that welcome screen again.
In MyComputer / Properties / General I can read MS Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005.
The installation sequence was XP Home - Patch Tablet PC - Drivers - Windows updates - I guess that this is the correct way.
Running the patch again after the drivers and updates, on Step 1 I got the message that the program cannot write to all the registries as some might be busy with other programs. Running Step2 doesn't change anything.
BTW: what is Step 3 for? It was not mentioned in the HowTo installation guide to be run (only Steps 1 and 2), so I did not touch it.
As this is the first time I see TabletPC at work, I kindly ask for good advise from the more experienced people on what to do further to make the TabletPC side work.
Here are also a few questions more:
a) Does the TabletPC Patch work OK with WinXP Home SP3 or does it require WinXP Professional? (I installed Home thinking that it is smaller and lighter)
b) Where to look in the installed files on c:\ and what to look for in order to make sure that the TabletPC files are there
c) How can I bring back that welcome TabletPC screen to play with it
Thank's very much for any usefull idea!
Hi!
It looks that there are very few people left on this forum still using Win XP on their Shift and also reading my thread....
To make the above raised topic more simple let me rephrase one question for the start:
Are there any members having on their HTC Shift the Tablet PC patch installed based on Win XP Home and NOT on XP Professional? Does the Tablet PC work all right with XP Home?
I certainly would much appreciate any confirmation or denial. Thank you.
Size of the TabletPC_PatchXPproSP2.exe file?
Hi everybody!
Please, I need somebody to confirm me that the correct size of the TabletPC_PatchXPproSP2.exe file is 154734723B in Windows Commander, shown also in Windows Explorer as 151109kB. I need to know if I got the correct file, if not then that would explain my above mentioned problems.
Thank you!

Hi axelTP2 !
Since i ordered this days an used Shift (hope it will arrive tomorrow) im thinking of upgrading my Shift with XP or Win7 (I hate Vista)
So i looked a little around and find this at Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_XP_Tablet_PC_Edition#Tablet_PC_Edition
"Windows XP Tablet PC Edition is based on Windows XP Professional and includes all the software features provided in it"
So i think your problem is related to the (lighter) version of XP Home...
OK im not sure what i should use XP Pro as an lightweight OS or Win7 for full further support maybe give Vista a try for a few days

Hi tokl,
Thank you for answering.
No, my problem is not related to the use of XP Home. I have tried XP Prof with the same negative result. I think that the problem is related to a bad pack TabletPC_PatchXPproSP2 that I have downloaded from the only source that I've found.
So I keep digging for a solution on this topic.

This is probably more work than just a simple file patch, but since this is a technical site by nature, I don't think it's too much to put this suggestion here, which is a tutorial for you to patch your XP youself to make it w/ full Tablet functionality, same as real Tablet Edition:

I was in the same boat few days ago. After doing some research in modaco, xda forum - I had succeeded in install energy rom (I install PDA part only) - Great ROM, i must say.
You can read more at modaco forum (sorry, can not post URL since I am new member)
I only worked on windows XP - It can be done on windows 7 but I had not tried it yet
- Require software to install you need:
ActiveSync installed (from microsoft webside)
Samsung_CDMA_modem_4_1_.34.zip
OCTANS_Mini.v2.11.exe
(see the modaco link for a link to download those software)
1. Insteall ActiveSync (if you had not done so)
2. Extract Samsung_CDMA_modem_4_1_.34.zip to a directory, and run the "setup.exe" in that directory to install the drive
3. Turn off your phone (push and hold on the right button of the cube button for a few seconds) - DO NOT USE THE RIGHT SIDE BUTTON (turn off screen only) - DO NOT CONNECT THE PHONE TO YOUR PC at this time
4. Run OCTANS_Mini
5. Click ".NB0" button to upload the PDA rom that you want to flash - Now the Detect button is enabled
6. Click Detect button
7. Now connect the phone to your PC using the supplied USB cable - the phone should be off as step 3 above.
8. Wait until OCTACT detect the phone - now the Start button is enabled
9. Click on the Start button to start flashing the ROM to you Omnia2 phone
10. Take a deep breath, drink a cup of coffee - Wait until the phone seft power on and start initializing

Any ideea when PC only runs Win7?
Thanks & Regards,
hmm I'm trying this exact procedure in XP, w7-64, w7-32, in neither Pc is the program able to detect the phone.
I must add though that i had tried to do an update using KIEs. It hang in mid-upgrade.. and i had hopes that Octans could repair this bricked phone,
anyone else having this predicament?
Ihave flashed my omnia with vista 32 bit and windows 7 64 bit ...flashing with vista 32bit is easy but you need to update the vista driver...
For windows 7 64 bit you need to stop the stupid driver signature enforcement at the start of windows by pressing F8 during the bootloader or installing DSEO( Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider) which is a free application( and you can google it) to do that before updating the driver ...there is a specific driver for 32 bit and 64 bit in windows 7....I have attached vista driver and w7 23 and 64 drivers....
maybe somebody can help me.
i made some flash to my fone, no problem under w7. onde day trying a new flash, the mobile simply don't talk with my pc.
format c:\
install w7, install drivers, nothing happen.
format
instal xp, same procedure. nothing happen.
hard reset between flash ...
now i have the phone full of samsung, windows, and my provider trash.
something like 37 mb memory
and ..i can't charge my phone when is on, only when i turn it off he charge the baterry via usb or wall charger.
i have two cable.
if somebody have some suggestion idea, resolution.
