I have to agree with the corupted file because you really are not able to brick the phone unless there was a failed install on the bootloader, at least from what I have seen and you would not be doing this already. I would re-download the NBH file and then you should be able to flash it back to RC29.

I've only had my phone a couple of weeks and I kept running into corrupt or missing files and some tutorials that were incomplete. I went here http://i.gizmodo.com/5146797/how-to-hack-android-for-multitouch-web-browsing-on-the-t+mobile-g1 and used every file they had / linked to. Now I not only have multitouch, but I am wifi tethering on 3g while I'm typing this. A couple things I found all caps for DREAIMG.NBH and it helps if you know a little dos/linux.

System- os fail
ok i am semi retarded and cannot figure this out. I have tried downloading multiple different files for the rc29 downgrade that i need to root my phone. Everytime i do it always fails at system. the bootloader is ok, the recovery is ok, boot is ok, and splash1 is ok but it always fails at system.
I have done all the proper step in formatting to FAT32. Now i cannot go anywhere but to try and update the DREAIMG.nbh or to the red green blue and white screen. PLEASE HELP WHAT DO I DO. I CAN'T GO WITHOUT A PHONE AND I DIDNT GET MY G1 THROUGH TMOBILE SO THEY WONT HELP ME OUT EITHER! IM DESPERATE, SOMEONE HAS GOTTA KNOW WHAT TO DO!

Dude. I tried to downgrade my firmware on my G1 and I got Update terminate UPDATE FAIL.
now Im stuck on the boot loader.
How do I fix it??
Re-download the dreaimg.nbh file and try, try again.
I have nowhere to download it to. If I download it theres no way to put it on the phone because it wont start up to mount....
I just went to tmobile and got a new one. I want to unlock my phone but I can't have that happen again..
Any reason why it happened?

ok (reading the screen name)
so i'm just gonna have to start guessing here .. um .. fix the problem by flushing it down the toilet .. kidding
seriously .. people might need a little more info .. like the steps you took to get where you are .. DREAIMG.nbh file gets extracted to an empty SD .. hold CAMERA + POWER to get to the load screen .. POWER to continue? these the steps? you downloaded the right version? RC29 - US i'm guessing?
by the way .. if it happens to fail .. take the battery out and try again

Those were the directions I followed exactly. I know what I'm doing. I'm very computer literate. I am using Ubuntu not Windoze. I used Gparted to format the disk to fat32. With nothing on the disk I put the DREAIMG.nbh on the card. I rebooted the phone with the camera button and power. It started the update and said Update Failed. After that I tried removing the battery and the SD card and everything possible. Nothing happened. It would only go to the bootloader with "Serial0" written in the middle of it. I want to do it and have root access to my G1 because I know how to use Linux but I can't have that happen again because I already had to go all of today without my phone because I had to go to T-Mobile after I got off of work.
Nevermind I just did it again and it worked.
I guess it just failed the first time for some dumb reason.

check the first sticky in this forum, RC29 = DREAIMG.nbh, RC8 = DREAMIMG.nbh... good luck
Yeah, thats the one i used. It really screwed me over. Tried another one with the md5 checksum that matched. Screwed. I am losing my mind

I see exactly the same problem. do I have to go back to T1 to re-flash the phone? Damn, I'm out of US, and cannot do that.
Any other solutions?
This is my first post. I had this problem and after taking battery out and retrying it multiple times and still no go but was lucky to still have my old mothballed T-Mo Wing. I just put the SD card into the Wing, re download the dreaimg.nbh, copyed it to the Wing, put the SD card back in to the G1 and it worked. A digital camera, printer, anything that takes micro SD card or a reader can be had for 10 to 20 dollars.
John Morris
The image updater checks for rom checksum before it flashes the rom, so the sd card and the image must be ok. Maybe the eeprom/flash chip in the phone is bad?
The exact same thing happened to me the first time.
To fix it, I reformated my SD card, re-unzipped the folder and re-copied it to the card. Didn't redownload or anything. I think it was something funky with the copy or unzipping or something.
The next time I started the update it worked fine and has been perfect.
Hi Dumbest,
Was the dumb reason a corrupted file then?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Folks, invest in a card reader before attempting to mod your phone. T-Mobile stores sell them for like $9.95. A lot of online stores give them away for free with a card purchase. This eliminates the "my phone won't boot so how can I put a new file on my card" problem.
99.999% of these failures are due to one of 3 things - didn't format the card to FAT32 first, file was named incorrectly, or file was a partial/corrupted download. With a card reader, it's trivial to recover from any of these problems in seconds.
I have two android phones, one for me and one for my wife, the dreaimg worked fine on mine but on hers it keeps coming up saying os fail with the error 0018003.
I used the same sd card and all.
Is there any other ideas out there?
Josh
okay hers took the rc30 downgrade, but still wont take the rc29.
I put it as rc30 and gave up for now, i'll be in hot water if i couldn't get anything up on hers.
Still strange, everything was the same, except the sim card.

Ok... I had the same issue. I eliminated all possiblilities as to why my phone would fail. And finally, right before giving up and just loading the rc30, I created a gold card for my sdcard. and BAM after 50 attempts with the same rc29 file... it loaded first try. I have an american T-mo G1 with the PVT hardware and for whatever reason it would not accept anything below rc30. Gold Card = master key.
is your usb cable connected when you try to flash ? If yes: Try without usb cable. I had a bronze G1 and it took me about 3 hours and nothing worked. When I unplugged usb it worked. I dont know if this was really the reason but you can give it a try....
Hey guys,
I just messed up my phone pretty bad. I forgot to disable lagfix before flashing a new kernel and now my sd card cannot be mounted. This is the error i get:
Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0p1)
Can't mount SDCARD: copy default media content failed.
I tried flashing using odin but no luck. My phone either goes in a boot loop or a black screen with the menu and back buttons glowing. Please help!
i have the same problem since 40 day i look too much and i dont find any solution and samsung says i had to change the mainbord its coast 250$. i dont know what to do wait more or what?
HI,
Try the following, worked for me
1) Go into recovery mode and wipe both cache and partition data
2) go to samfirmware.com and download the original rom for your phone (the one that came with it)... since you don't say what region you're from, I'll give you an example with mine. Mine is from Bell, and factory comes with UGJH2, so i downloaded that with ODIN and the PIT FILE, make sure to extract the TAR file from inside the RAR file. Put all 3 files in the same folder
3) Enter download mode, when the phone is in that state sometimes it's hard to access download, best way is... remove the battery, put it back in, then hold VOL DN + HOME + POWER until you see a working android bot inside a triangle. When you see that, connect your phone to your PC, double click on ODIN, then load the PIT file (CHECK BOX RE-PARTITION leave the others to default) and Select PDA and find the TAR file you extracted in STEP 2... then click on START, it's gonna take a few mins, and even after it's done, it's going to reboot, and it'll stay at the "S" logo for a bit, leave it, then it'll boot.
At least we hope it will.
Keep us posted,
Thank you,
Rodi.
Tried this on my buddies phone and it wasn't that easy.
It would boot up again, but only with the help of an External SD Card. Also, once you take it out, everything would FC and phone shuts down.
Also, there was a notice in notification bar saying "Unable to mount to External SD. Please remove, Mount point incorrect"
Wasn't able to revive it so buddy got rid of it.
Sad to say, but you're not the only one who has had these problems. Which is why I got rid of my i9000. Its an amazing phone and loved it, but once problems happened out of nowhere, I lost faith in it. Don't want to end up with a lemon. Phones are meant for emergencies afterall. When you start questioning if the screen will turn on, really makes one worry.
I have the internal SD problem too and i tried that..
I get stuck at ODIN where it says "File Analysis.."
It just stays there..
I did try flashing the stock 2.1 firmware using odin but no luck. I'm with Bell too and I'm sure I used the right .tar files, and I did repartition the memory with the right pit file, I'm not that much of a noob . Anyway, after searching every where to find a solution, I was pretty sure there was no easy way of reviving the phone. So I just went to Bell and they shipped it to Samsung to repair it. The problem is that when you don't disable the lagfix, your internal memory card remains partitioned under different formats and the system won't be able to read stuff off it ... or something like that.
i think the pit file couldn't repartition the sdcard we need to find another way to repartition the sdcard, but how we can do this? any suggestions?

Well, in my case the pit file did repartition my sdcard, as odin successfully "past". Did you try other pit files to see if it works?
Yup same thing happened to mine. Its just stuck with buttons lit up but nothing on the screen. Went into recovery and wiped the hell outta everything there, but still nothin.
Im just gonna try to return it and get a diff phone all together. Its been only 3 months since I got the damn thing. So they better take it back.

Yes, I did it from the System Update option which puts the unit into the recovery menu. That's the correct way, yes?
It looks like all the Mod files from this site are damaged or corrupted...? I run a test on the download on my computer and there appears to be issues with the download. Has anyone else had this problem???
Any help is greatly appricated. Thanks!
I had trouble with the install also: i was able to enter the recovery mode but it would recognize the update then i would see the android logo and box with arrow then nothing from there this happened several times. I left the card in the unit turned it off then back on , then went to the system update and chose to update , which it did and rebooted then was locked in an Elocity loop. I reset the unit and the market and everything was there. I might of been close to bricking it ,but it works now. Be careful

Sounds like your downloaded zip file was corrupted - this happens often. Try downloading it again and then try to install after that.

This is quite normal. boot loop happens to 90% of users. Its well documented in the development thread. The Android logo you saw is also expected. From there, you're supposed to hit the Menu soft key and use the other soft keys to navigate the recovery console. Also well documented in the development thread.

GetRight Download Manager
Hi
This reminds of a problem I had downloading a large software program a while back. Many people were having the same problem with corrupt files. The company recommended using a download manager called GetRight.
It worked great! It is free to use and you can get it at:

Let us know if it works for you.

The getright manager is software for your PC to help you download large files from the internet. In our case, the functionality would then allow us to copy the newly downloaded file (apparently with a lower frequency of corruption) from our PC to our SD cards for use in our Android devices.
Hello People,
Firstly I would like to apologize if this is a duplicate post, Googling reveals tons of different documents which actually has confused me and as I have tried many, I don't even know now what have I screwed up.
Phone - U8800H
OS - Linux
I tried to update my phone and it got messed up. It simply won't boot but go in an infinite loop or restarting every 3 seconds (once the HUAWEI logo is displayed).
By pressing both Vol buttons and starting the phone I can go into bootloader mode (pink screen) and the phone drives get mounted. However trying to go to recover mode by pressing the Vol UP key during start up simply again keeps restarting the phone.
I have tried various solutions which include re-downloading the images folder files again, replacing the recover.img from clockwork, formatting that partition and retrying, almost everything.
The phone simply keeps restarting. Replacing or removing any of the file in the images folder gives me a blue screen during going to bootloader mode.
As I cant get to recover mode I don't know what to do.
The warranty of the phone is finished as it was only of three months. I was told by the company I purchased it from to be a "power problem" but I think its a software problem as I messed it up myself.
If anyone has faced such situation before please help.
Thanks.

The original ROM was U8800HV100R001AREC00B135SP01 CUSTC213D001 (Kuwait VIVA). I have downloaded it as well.
However as suggested it asks me to create a dload folder in a formatted SD card with the zipped files within it, and then start the phone in 'recovery mode'. However the phone doesn't start in that mode with the same restarting issue.
One person suggested to create a 'dload' folder in the SD card with no contents in it and then start the phone in 'bootloader' mode and the phone will auto revert to its default firmware. I did as suggested but it didn't work either.
I have the original boot.img that came with the phone. I also downloaded a fresh boot.img (along with the other three files that come in the images folder) but still the same result of restarting during trying to start in 'recover mode'.
It was working fine till I messed it up trying to upgrade it to 2.3 to change the patched wpa_supplicant file to connect to Ad-Hoc networks.
I think I need to change the files required for 'recover mode' to default ones, but I don't know where they reside. Any tutorial in this direction would be great.
Thanks.
My guess is that some of the partitions got messed up somehow, some different filesystems (ext4 over ext3) in 2.3 stock fw.
Have you tried copying update.app to dload-folder of sdcard then booted phone with both vol-down and vol-up pressed (bootloader mode). That should in theory start the update...

Ok then.... because I'm lost... which rom was on!
2.2.1?
or 2.3.?
these are the files needed FIRST....
---------- Post added at 05:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:16 PM ----------
Ok IF you were on 2.2.... on sdcard make \dload folder with update 2.2 original rom!!!!
Vol+ Vol- Power on...pink screen and it should do the rest!!!
Recovery after you reinstall 2.2!
Now IF you managed to put 2.3... then put 2.3 update in sdcard \dload and again it should do the rest.
If you are trying to come back to 2.2 or miui oxygen cm7 from the beta.... first put the 2.3 beta back on via the sdcard.
I have put the original ROM in 'dload' folder and as suggested I shall have started the phone in 'bootloader' mode now. There is no movement on the screen so I don't know even if its doing something.
How much should I wait or shall I be notified if the update is done ?
Thanks.

Is your folder structure like this

I have double checked it again, the structure is 'dload' folder in the root of the memory card and the update.app file in it, still however I don't see any movement in the 'bootloader' mode, just the "pink" screen continuously lit.
What am I doing wrong ?
Thanks.

Pink screens means it didn't work. Your phone isn't mounting the sd-card right in bootloader mode. You could try to put the dload-folder on internal sd-card, should be possible since you're on linux. Think you just need to mount the right partition when connecting your phone via usb when in pinkscreen. I don't recall exactly which partition as I'm using Windows and haven't tried this, but you should be able to find some more info around here by searching a bit...
U8800
Hello XDA-Forum!
Same problem here with my u8800
I have original recovery.img but i fd' other files by overwriting them.. (yes i know...)
Now my phone doesen't start flashing and i cant do anything. I was using almost latest version of oxygen mod.
Do i need original files to flash my phone back to stock in image/... floder? And if i need, can i dig version form recovery.img? or might this is problem with partitions? I think oxygen is known by partition problems.

I have tried as you suggested, There were 5 partitions on the phone 2 of which were smaller than 200MB and therefore could not save the update file which is larger in size. I have tried over the remaining three partitions but in vain, they all end up with the same pink screen.
However you might be correct that my phone is not mounting the SD card as I can't see the SD card in the list of mounted drives in the computer.
To put/move files on SD card I have to use my another phone
I will get another SD card and try. In the meanwhile if there is anything else I could try, do advice me.
Thanks.

Hi, and welcome to XDA!
I guess you got the same problem with sd-card not mounting properly if you can't initiate stock flashing via dload-folder-method.
If you search the forums you'll find links to download all files that's needed in the image-folder of pinkscreen-partition. Then you'll hopefully be able to boot to recovery (vol-up + power), wipe data/cache/dalvik cache and flash whatever ROM you'd like. Remember this erases all your data, hopefully you've backed up whatever precious stuff you've got on your phone.

Thank u!
I loaded Official 2.3 overseas original boot.img & recovery.img but nothing new happened. volume up+power = bootloop, if i try flash volumeup+down + power = pinkscreen. If i delete image folder comes blue. Another ideas?

Remember that you need all files from the same version. Try this, those are from stock 2.2 if I'm not mistaken. When (if?) you get into recovery, remember to clear cache / data / dalvik cache.

Glad to hear you get it working as we both had the basically same problem.
For me however still it is the same issue, except that while going into the recover mode now it shuts down instead or restarting endlessly. Where as the bootloader mode simply does nothing.
Can you post the exact steps you did to get your work so I can also repeat them?
Thanks.
@huzefa_from_kuwait:
You've got the U8800H right? Then you need to find the correct image-folder for your phone, as it differs from what I uploaded which is for U8800.
Hi there!
I have bricked my phone and it is in "download" mode.
Is there a way to "bring it back" with Odin?
Thanks!
M.
Did they repaired your phone for the second time? If not, what did they said? What did you do in the first place that you bricked it?
Sent from my Ideos X5
Still waitin'
Nobody called me, don't know what's happening with my phone.
Get back here when new info available.

People still doesn't read. I said that it is bricked! Cannot install anything on.
Brgds
What do you mean by download mode? if you turn it on with vol up and down and power held, what happens?
Try put stock rom (2.3 or 2.2 depending on what was on phone before) in dload folder on sd card and it might flash firmware off that.
If you're on download mode then you can upload a recovery an boot image. Do it and use that to flash any rom you want.
I appreciate people trying to help. But sometimes it is good to stay quiet. So please, don't reply with funny suggestions.
Thanks.
Hello;
What, exactly, is "download mode"?
For someone how's in need of help, you should take it easy on the atitude and provide more info for those sparing a moment of their lives to try to help you out, no?

I am just trying to say that sometimes it is better to no reply at all.
If i said that the telephone is bricked and only in download mode you should know what does it mean before you reply. That's all. No hard feelings.
Try using a FAT32 formatted sdcard, with nothing in it but the dload folder with a stock ROM.
Couple days ago, I deleted all files from my U8800's FAT32 and EXT4 partitons - yes, even the 'image' folder, connected to my Linux box.
Because I wanted to revert to stock Froyo, i dumped back partition 5, from a backup I did some months ago - but this part is not relevant.
Formatted the card, dumped the dload folder into it, with a card reader; removed the battery and followed the procedure described in your link.
First try, it displayed some error message - can't remember - second try it showed up the pink screen, followed by the blue screen and initiated the ROM flashing. My phone is now fine and dandy... Oh, it rebooted three times after installing stock Froyo, so don't be alarmed when you get there.
Cheers
Good luck

I tried all you mentioned 30 X and more then that But no success
Btw: if you dumped back your partition from backup you had access to internal memory ... i don't have that connection neither on Ubuntu or Windows. I got pink screen but it is in "Download mode" only.
Thanks.
Can you explain me how did you get your Huawei u8800 enter in Download mode if it's a feature of some samsung smartphones to work with odin ?
You're being a little rude for those who're tryin' to help you, you should be more polite ma friend...
You didn't even say what rom were you using... so I guess you don't even deserve any help from anybody.
Peace
I've had download mode on my previous Android device - LG GT540. All it needed to enter such mode was to remove the battery, SIM and sdcard , and plug the USB cable. It would enter download mode and allow a stock ROM to be flashed with the standard LG update tool.
Actually, I dumped partition 5 back to the phone prior to erasing every file system in it, and indeed had pink screen mode access in order to do it...
Sorry it didn't work out for you.

I've installed some custom ROM and after reboot it stopped to boot in HUAWEI logo. And that was it. I have tried to install official ROM's all of them with standard methods (dload folder) but every time ends in step 2/2 (installation failed or something like that). I opened up new thread with that few weeks ago:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466953
This thread was supposed to answer my question at the top. And some guys did. I don't know how can thread be closed by the author. I've try to find it but with no success.
I appreciate people like to help. But if people don't know what i am asking why answering and asking questions that are answered in many threads before.
You see .. this thread should be as small as possible but ends with looong explanations which doesn't help at all
Peace.
