Hi,
Has anyone had the problem before, that when your screen switches off or goes in to standby, the Data Connection is lost.
Is there a fix for this?
Your help is much appreciated.
same here
I have the same "problem".
This is annoying since I use an app called Trackr, which displays live gps position.
you can change this with advanced config
I checked through all the configurations in advanced config and I dont see any relevant setting for keeping my connection "alive" even when my phone goes in to standby mode.
Could you point me to the right configuration? I might be overlooking it.

navigate to network->turn off wi-fi if no activity and change it to No
You could use Diamond Tweak for it. Setting 7.1 in this program allows you to keep WiFi running in standby mode.
What about data connection but NOT wifi connection? The data connection to my phone service always disconnects itself when in standby. Maybe I should use a new radio?

Wow!! Thank you Sir, that worked for me!!

My D2 will automatically disconnect the wifi connection when it goes in standby. My old cruise would always keep the connection alive, so that it would be available immediately after turning it on. Is there a fix for this?
A google search reveals!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-368241.html
Edit: although that worked on my XDA Orbit 2 (Touch cruise / polaris) it dont seem to work on my Diamond 2
I found this key in the registry:
HKLM\Comm\TNETW12511\Parms\HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended
and changed it from 0 to 1, but that didn't work. After a restart the value was automatically changed back to 0.
Looking around on the HD forum it seems that HD has the same behaviour. People changed that using a program called HD Tweak. I guess we need D2 Tweak...
i would also like to see a solution for this
I have experienced this problem also. If you have push internet scheduled and the phone is on standby, it retrieves the data via data connection/3G as opposed to your WiFi.
Additionally, if you take your phone out of standby, it takes a few seconds for the phone to re-establish the WiFi connection. If you are too quick to access the internet or update weather - again it will start to do this through the data connection.
Does anyone know how to resolve this?
did you try Advanced Configuration Tool? You can enable/disable data connections, set them to always on and enable WiFi on standby.

Does it exist for D2 too already?
Yeah got it and it works on D2, the enable WiFi option is there
You could also go to Settings -> More -> Connections -> Wi-Fi -> Wireless networks -> Menu -> Advanced, there you can change how long the Wi-Fi radio should be on if not connected to a wireless network.
Unfortunately, www.touchxperience.com is down, so I can't download it now.

Thanks for the tip. This doesn't solve my problem, but it's good to know.
I found a 3.3 cab elsewhere. What option exactly did you change to keep wifi on on standby? The only logical one I found is Network >Turn off wi-fi if no activity. I changed that from yes to no, but that didn't help...
I know how to do it but it requires some code to accomplish - I actually tested this yesterday on my TD2 (the advanced config trick does not work with TD2). Unfortunately I do not have the TD2 with me right now ... Perhaps I'll muck with it a bit later anyways, else you'll have to wait 'til I have the TD2 in hand again Monday or Tuesday.
It takes a ****load of power to do this though, and I'm not sure if it works in true suspend... it works for unattended mode though.
Well, I found the option in advanced config 3.3, hidden under "More options". But indeed it doesn't work. Wifi still disconnects on standby and starts reconnecting after standby. If you have a solution Chainfire, I'd be happy!
Tomkarb, can you confirm that the Advanced Config trick really works for you?
Isn't there anyone that has a solution? The Schapps advanced config thing just doesn't work
The solution is in here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=524490
Thanks! That works indeed!
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\TNETW12511\Parms]
"HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended"=dword:00000001
I never found that out, because I always soft reset immediately afterwards, thinking that was necessairy for the change to become effective. The soft reset wiped the change away though.
I've made a cab that changes the registry value to 1. It also copies the cab to the installationdir and adds a shortcut to it in the start menu. So you just have to run it from the start menu after each soft reset/restart (if you need wifi on standby). It only works when you execute it when wifi is off. Turn it on after installation.
There's a great freeware that i use called WkTask, which is a launcher, among other things, and it has the option of turning off the screen, but not putting the phone into standby. Disable the automatic power off and turn off the screen, this should solve your problem. However, i'm pretty sure your battery will drain a whole lot faster with the device never entering standby and the wifi on.
For added functionality, create a shortcut in the windows directory called 'long_power.lnk', and point it at the same file that WkTask uses (you'll see the path when you add it to the launcher, its a 'command call' btw). Then you can press and hold the power button to turn the screen off instead of powering off the phone (which is something i never do, does anyone?)
Hope that helps.
Thanks for the tip. I don't use wifi very often, only sometimes to remote control my pc. So most of the times I want it to go in standby and save as much power as possible with wifi off.
BTW, another solution for some of you may be to use a different ROM. I'm using Topaz Essentials 1.6 ROM (TESS1.6) from chef Aman now, and this ROM doesn't have the wifi turning off problem.

Does not work on my HD2
How do I disable the phone from auto connecting to gprs? I tried testing it by launching opera without switching on wifi. The phone still connects through gprs although I turn data connection off. It will turn data connection on by itself. Even when I switch wifi on and want it to connect through wifi instead, it is still connecting through gprs. How do i solve this?
When wifi is "connected" (not only "on"), it uses wifi, no dataconnection.
If you really don't want a dataconnection, use something like NoData...
i tried NoData but it's not working. i'm using official htc wm6.5 rom.
Sorry I cannot be more precise because I don't use it anymore, but I remember there was an option to block data connection in HDTweak. Is that you want? Block dataconnection permanently? If so, you could alternatively delete your mobile operator connection in Settings/Connections. If anyone knows the registry changes involved in this, please post them so that I can make a .cab, I need it when roaming.
try MWLongLife! It's magic
this program is developed for saving battrey life by controlling 3G/2G network and data usage
you can set each program which need data access by 3G, WiFi, USB, etc.
Also, force to use Wifi rather than gprs if it's available.
Thanks for all of the suggestions. I tried installing nodata again and it worked this time.
for those interested there's also a cab to disable push internet completely (think that was the origin of your problem).
Search the forum on NoPushInternet

Yes please... I was about to post the same issue. I think the precedence in WM6.5 of using mobile wireless over WiFi is the wrong way around if the WiFi signal is strong. In my house, my WiFi is strong everywhere but 3G comes and goes. It's darn annoying to get the message about "No connectivity" when I know for sure there is a very good WiFi signal.
Cheers, Rob.
PS. Just had it whilst writing this email - "Messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device..."
It's "WM" not "MW".

That's much better!! thanks fighter7139, gonna try right now!

Hi chowdarygm,
when you say data connections, are you referring to Wi-Fi?
If you are using Advanced Configuration tweaking tool, open the application and then select Menu | More Settings | Connections. The options below should let you know if your connection is set to automatically disconnect after a specific amount of time.
EDIT: also check HD Tweak as you can set you Data Connection to automatically disconnect after a certain amount of time.
I hope this helps you out.
Regards.

No problem, i will keep my fingers crossed for you
I've had problems with a couple of roms being unable to connect to 3G, even with the correct radio. Most of them are fine there's just 2 or 3 that didn't work. Never figured out why.
chowdarygm, this is a power management issue meaning the phone is pre-set to disconnect after it's been idle for awhile so as to save battery. It's normal. If you haven't fixed your issue by now and If you're handy with a registry editor, go to HKLM\Comm\PPTP1\Parms. Inside "parms" look for "disable power management" and set its dword (decimal value) to 1, hit "ok" and softreset. Your data should then stay on continuously. This setting allows me to stay connected to my VPN using the PPTP protocol, but to do so it keeps my carrier data connection alive. This should work for you whether or not you use a VPN. Good Luck!!

Hi guys,
As the tile says, is there an application that can disconnect the data connections (3g or wifi) when IDLE or by timer?
Thanks a lot for sharing!!!
this is the application already mentioned quite a few times here on the forum.
go to *Leo Hints, Tips and Registry Tweaks* which is stickie.
look here. might want to try tip no70.
I'm using it for months. does the 3G things you want it to do. great app.
Thanks a lot but those programs don't work for me. I don't know why. I turn the 3G on and it never turns off by itself...i still have to turn it off manually.
any suggestions?
the bandswitcher app.
start it. on screen activate the auto disconnect, set time. press save and tap auto.
works perfectly for me.
I do not activate 3g manually. it activates automatic then something wants internet conn
are you running cleanram? I had the problem it closed the app.

I'm using Chucky's GTX rom 6.5.5. Maybe that's why?
When I set to close idle connection in 100seconds it doesnt close it manually.
Can you show me a screenshot of your settings? Thanks a lot!!
You can use PhoneAlarm, it's not free but it worth the money.
In each profile, you can set a timer for your data connection, or completly disable it during night for example.
how can i do that my data connection stay alive when i standby the device?
(for example holding icq or fim working in standby)
i found something that does exactly this with WiFi but not with data connections...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=636656 in this thread the seventh app
When you say data connection do you mean Wifi?
To keep wifi you can use any register editor (SKTools for example). Then search for this entry "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Parms".
When you've found it look for a key named "HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended=0" and modify the 0 and type 1. It must be like this: HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended=1
I did this way and it worked. Anyways if you are not sure how to do it you can search for a .cab "WiFi Stay Awake" that do the step above.
You must be aware that use this trick to enable wifi while staying in "stand by" drains your battery faster and depending how much you use your htc mega won't last for a day. Hope this help
no i dont mean wifi i mean the internet connection
on german its called "Datenverbindung" in english this would be data connection that why i wrote that
but i mean the internet (GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA)
the connection closes when i lock my phone and turn display off (standby i guess)
Oh, I looked at the 7th app and saw "7th cab - Makes ur WiFi stay awake when the phone get's locked , usefull when using Skype(or similar) or dont want to connect/disconnect/reconnect every time u leave it for a minute and it goes in standby". That's why I thought that.
I'm not sure then because I don't use data connection but maybe there is an entry like the "HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended". Try to look @ it.
ok i searched but didn't found anything...
nobody any idea?..
