...it's still working!
I think it's the luckiest HD in the world.
It was in it's stock pouch and was scooped out within seconds. The battery quickly taken off and with the back off, card out, etc put straight into the airing cupboard (the little cupboard where the hot water tank is). This all happened at about 8am this morning. Got a call from the girlfriend at about 4pm this afternoon telling me she'd put it back together and it was cool. Wasn't too happy she'd done that, was gonna give it at least 48 hours but it's working. Seems to have dried out perfectly. Nothing under the screen, everything work fine.
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!
I think it was the pouch that saved it, probably soaked up the water before it got to the device.
Thanks for sharing this. I use mine every morning in there too but it's not happened to me yet. I will be extra careful from now on maybe take the pouch with me

It was actually the process of puting my HD back in the pouch that made me drop it but thank god it made it back in just in time. I know what you mean though, every morning while dropping a bomb i'm checking my mail and seeing what the M1 is like before deciding on my route to work!
no kidding...you are luckier than sh#t!
If it plays up, wash it in distilled water and then dry it for 48 hours.

LMAO! Did this a couple of weeks back with my sons iphone, spent 2 hours blowing all the water out via the headphone socket lol. That works better now than before, he reckons it cleaned the crap from out the speakers and now is louder than ever lol. Take care a close friend of mine dropped the EEPC in the toilet. He was smoking, some ash fall down on the legs, he opened them to avoid burn and the little toy from asus made a dive. All this happened before flushing the toilet, so before he got it to the service center he had also to clean it and parfume it.
A way to avoid this happening would be not to play with "toys" in the bathroom!!
From the last few posts i can say : none of the WM devices stink, even those which have been in toilet!!!!!!!
and gues im not looking for a new pouch -- keeping the original one!!!!
Boy oh boy that is damn funny, my old man did it many yrs ago when the first StarTac came out.
He came around the hallway swearing, googley eyed looking left and right and stated, "that was the most expensive s..t I ever had!"
He had stood up and flushed and at the exact same time the phone had popped off his belt and disappeared.
Incidentally he did get it back, it stuck to tree roots further down the drain, mind you it never worked again. heh heh.

I dropped my Treo 600 in a freakin lake about 2 months after getting it. I dove in and got it, threw it in the boat and it was dead, dead, dead. Took it home and it sat on the counter the remainder of my vacation. At first you could see the unit exhibiting small signs of life and eventually it came back and worked 100%. Sometimes miracles happen

Wow, I'm surprised your Nexus One still works dude.. guess HTC's testing process did do some good. Or, you just got extremely lucky somehow.
On an off-topic side note, did anyone notice in the video where the Nexus One fell, the screen did not crack? I assume this was an almost final version of the product? Why though, does when people drop their phones on the concrete it still breaks? If HTC went through this rigorous testing process, why are phones breaking so easily?.. Of course glass breaks easily, but did the material they dropped the phone on was not as dense or hard enough as concrete? Or was it simply the multiple angles they tried..

In the video it looks like the phones are dropped from what appears to be rather less than hand-holding height, onto a surface that appears to be slightly rubbery. Concrete tends to be rather unforgiving no matter what you drop on it.
In December, I dropped my HTC Magic into a kid's swimming pool, left it to dry for one day and it's still in great working condition today =)
Did this exact same thing to my old Nokia 8190 back in the day, and the bowl wasn't "fresh". Phone came out fine other than the battery life dropped to 6-8 hours of standby, ended up carrying a spare in my wallet.
Oh lol, nice reaction tho..

OOOOhh Myyyyy Goooosshhhh I would have totally gone hysterical.
I had a google Ion that I paid toooo furkin much for and dropped the bloody thing on the pavement and scuffed it - I nearly had to have counselling I was so gutted.
Its excellent to know it wasn't killed, was the screen off when it went in?
I have porn on my nexus, but only the stuff I wrote myself (see sig)
Dayz
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was at the gym working out and listening to music on my hero. A 45lb weight dropped and rolled right on the hero. I tried to turn it on the screen was a little cracked internally but can still see 85% of it.
The Problem:
When I turn it on it just sits at the first HTC screen, vibrates once and won't boot.
Ive tried soft and hard reset but nothing. The buttons/trackball does not light up.
Ive plugged it in to my computer and removable disc(f drive) recognizes something is plugged in. But when I click on it it says Please insert a disc into the f drive. The orange charge light on the hero does not light up either.
Im pretty sure the phone is done but if anyone has any suggestions let me know. Its about to go under the knife to see if I can see anything messed up internally.
thanks
nick
Haha.........
If you have insurance take it in, otherwise it's time for scalpel and tweezers....
ouch.
There is very little real estate between the screen and the main board, so...i hope you dont have any damaged ICs.
Hopefully you will see something obvious once dissected.
Thats a bummer, man. At least its easy to take apart!
i wouldn't attempt to take it apart, just put it stock and request a refurbishment because that's what your gonna get and will probably have to pay the $100 to boot.
Day 1 in the OR....
Didn't see much, very little damage to the circuit board almost cant tell, but that little bit goes a long way. Went through poking everything like a dentist looking for a cavity. There was a loose solder, so keeping my fingers crossed.
After I put together, the LED indicator now lights up when its plugged in. Im going to let it sit to see if it gets to green.
Will update.
Thanks guys,
Btw: im using a blackberry as a backup, first non htc phone in the last 3 years. This thing kinda sucks

He may find out after ordering the screen that it may have been cheaper to cough up the $100 for a replacement. Had that issue on a laptop once...the screen costs more than the entire computer. Wasn't worth fixing.

If you have to get a new phone and it wasn't due to a manufacturing defect then there is a $100 deductible to get it replaced (if you have insurance on it...if not, you're SOL).
$30 for a screen? I thought it would be much higher.
I just dropped my nexus in the pool, and quickly got it out. Quickly took the battery out and am seeming to have no issues at all!!! Anyone else done the same thing?

happy to hear that it working
This is definitely one feature the Desire doesn't have.
It can take a while for water damage to rear its head but sometimes you get lucky. Lets hope for you its lucky time. Might be a good idea to pick up a few powerball tickets....
I figured instead of waiting for some day to loose functionality, I would stress test it. So all night I had it plugged in charging, while playing something off pandora using the 3.5mm headphone jack. Woke up right now, and its still working fine. My trackball is working better than before, I just can't scroll up. If I find the slightest thing wrong I'll do an insurance claim
Usually warranty doesn't include water damage.
Insurance covers anything, gotta pay a deductible but thats fine.

I did that a long time ago with a nokia. It started working after a day of drying. A few weeks later I fell into a river and once again, it started working again after a day or two of drying. Even a third dunking wasn't enough to kill it; I still have it 9 years later, and a few months ago I happened to charge it up and power it on. It still works.
Hopefully your nexus will hang in there as well.
Nooo!!!!! I tried to put it in my bath for 10 Sec. It will now not power on. Why did I listen to you.
Hello everyone
Well, I've had my Galaxy for about six weeks now & I'm deeply madly in love with it, best phone I've ever had.
Yesterday I was playing some games on it with my friends, GPS, WiFi maybe Bluetooth were on, it was charging as well, then phone started overheating, it got hot, like very very hot, but we didn't stop, minutes after that -believe it or not- it started melting down, it was even possible to reshape it with my hands, I then turned it off and unplugged the battery.
Scary ha?? I can swear to you guys, this is the worst nightmare I've had in months, yep, it was a dream a bad one.
Sorry to scare you guys, but, c'mon, I mean Melting Down!!! Anyway, when I woke up, I was so happy that I kissed my Galaxy

Not a bad dream ....just a bad experience ! Meltdown!!!
for no obvious reason my completely STOCK razr hd melted down while i was showing someone how one would boot into recovery even though mine had no recovery i got the android exclamation then powered down from there once powered down it began to heat up drastically to the point of me watching the inside of the audio jack melt then me not being able to even hold it.obviously the phone is ruined and i feel pretty discouraged considering i had only had the phone about 3 months does anyone have any idea why this wouldve happened ? also does anyone have any old android they would want to trade for a melted down razr hd cause i need a phone maybe a 1st generation atrix or something similiar seeing as how i also have the lapdock ..thx in advance..jsn

That is not waterproof -_-;;; The submerge your phone in rice is simply a trick to dry the phone.
The beer did not penetrate because the barley and hops were repelled by the locked bootloader.

It can handle the speed. My Atrix went for a drive after my iPhone and came back with a speeding ticket. Apparently the Atrix is capped on how fast it can go even though it uses the same roads as the iPhone.
lol, my friends berry sat in the lake for 20 minutes, totally submerged, we finally found it, he left it off for 72hours, turned it on and it still works to this day....
so i guess.....
Yea.... Generally there is absolutely no issue with an electronic device that isn't waterproof actually getting wet and still being functional. The key, and probably what Alex2x3 did wrong, is letting it dry long enough. The device getting wet is one thing. Something will initially short and the phone will shut off. If it's not entirely dry though, and you try to turn it on, then you're powering up a damp device, and that's a whole different ballgame. A friend of mine got shoved into the pool with his phone still in his pocket. Let it dry for a while and it still worked.
Unfortunately for Alex, i don't believe letting it dry overnight was quite long enough. Think it'd usually be best to wait 2-3 days before attempting to turn it on.... if not a little longer depending on the size of the device. All it takes is a little bit of water that wasn't able to quite work it's way out, and *poof*.
