Hi all,
I dont know if I'm missing something, but have gone thru' a search and couldn't find a way out...
actually, I am in Mauritius. ( +230 prefix)
suppose I have a contact with number 777 7777 (7-digit in mauritius)
when I receive a call from him, i will receive the call from the number 777 7777.
but, when the guy would send me an sms, I would get the sms from +230 777 7777.
this occurrence replicates for every number, every contact.
so, if I save either one of the numbers (777 7777 or +230 777 7777) , there will be a situation where the number lookup will fail.
my question is:
is there a way to work around this problem ? either to add +230 to every call number received. or to remove the +230 from every number which is sending sms ?
now, actually, I have to save BOTH numbers for contacts so that his calls and sms are recognised ...
PS: i never had this issue on my previous SE-P990i, and other SE/NOKIA phones...
hope you guys can help me. am not sure its a rom issue, been happening since my first flash. ..
Thanks & Regards,

Hi xda2 users, I dont seem able to find a thread on this issue. Perharps I have wrong configuration.
The problem is this. Got sms-es, but unable to view the sender in the inbox. It display the sender's full phone number instead. It is not wise if we have to guess or find in the contacts.
Since we are in XDA2, anyone using photo contacts? I remove caller_id at startup and is it why it wont work? Hehe, try for fun. Thanks.
Well, I am able to see caller name from the Contacts (not sim card) when the person call. So, I dont think this is a problem of me removing caller id at start up. Could it be that the format for the humber in contacts and sms inbox is different?
For example, my contacts number format is (016) 123-4567. Tested that it can be used to call, too lazy to change all to normal number since this is previous iPaq format. Meanwhile sms inbox no is of +0161234567.
Please advise. Thanks.
Hehe, it is solved  I type wrong phone number for testing. Hehe.
I just found your forum and have bee reading throught it for the past few days.
I think this is a great forum as I just purchased an Imate Jam and have resolved several problems from the forum members.
I have one strange occurance on my Jam that I do not know how to fix.
I received SMS's from my service which I do not have the contact number in my address book.
The sms message put's a name from my contacts that is not associtaed with teh SMS. When I deleted teh contact it showed another (The next time I received an SMS).
How to fix this?
It is not a problem...
You mean u got a message from your Service Provider right?
It is possible to send messages without a number in the from field instead it comes with a name. Providers usually send messages like that for conveniance...
It is also possible to do through a software in my Sony Ericsson p910i called iSMS maybe it's one of your friends playing a prank on you...
Let me explain a little bit more.
The message I received is from my service provider 100%.
However, in the SMS inbox it seems to list a name in the from field which belongs to one of my contacts.
Now What I did is remove that contact and waited fro another SMS from my service provoder.
What happened is the from field nows shows some other name that is in my contacts.
My question is, how does the SMS application detrmine the from?
When I had a nokia 6600 it just displayed a number.
Try to find some commonality in the contact like perhaps the first few digits or the last few digits are the same in that case what the provider is doing is that he's sending a message from a special number such as 646, 501 etc... in that case if your numers are not in the international format the phone picks up the nearest alternative name to the number and displays it.. if u save your contact details in international format it does not happen...
e.g +91 ..... in case of numbers from india...
Thanks
Ok I will give that a Try.
How can you tell what number the SMS is from.
When I open it, it just shows the name it has choosen but no number.
Hi,
when in contacts, you can type the first (or any) letters of someones name and the list will filter down until you are left with the person you want.
eg..type J and you get James, Jane, Jim, etc
type A (JA) and you get James, Jane..
I'm fairly sure that when I had my first WM device (O2 Orbit), when you were in this section you could also type the phone number and the same thing would happen..but this doesn't work anymore. Was this removed for a reason, or does anyone know how to reactivate it?
thanks
You can do it on the Phone menu, start typing the number and it will shouw you the contacts.
Was that it?
thanks....very similar but it only shows the people if you start the number from the beginning.
let's just say my contact has the name Fred and the number 01234567
if I type FR I get FRed
if I type RE I get fREd
if I type 0123 I get fred
but if I type 234...I get no matches.
still...not a major issue, I just wondered where it went to is all

Strange question - but I knew that there was probably very little chance for an answer except by those most expeienced with ROM flashing ...
I currently have Leo's ROM and have now noticed that when I get a text message with a phone number in the body of the text (my answering service uses this method to page me now) that something has changed.
If I get a message to call " please call 123 345 7777" there is no way to just touch the group of numbers and have the phone call 1233457777 - basically with one touch dialing. The system seems to divide things up to 3 different groups - 123 or 345 or 7777.
It does seem to still work if the text comes in this format - " please call 123-345-7777" , but I can't be assured that the many different operators will send via that format.
Since I have only had this problem since switching to my Leo HD2 and using a particular ROM I wondered if it might be a registry setting and if anyone else had noticed this ??
