New help with 2 things in my new xperia - XPERIA X1 General

Hi there this is my first post here I just wanted to say this forum is great I learned a lot before buying the phone.
But im struggling with 2 things.
1) When I'm receaving files via bluetooth instead of memory card it goes to PHONE MEMORY how do I change it?
2) I have 5.99$ unlimited t mobile EDGE Plan , for some reason it says its configured to T MOBILE USA EDGE PLAN but I cant connect , i used to have n95 I remember I had to change some Ip adress or some shyttt. I just dont know how to do it exactly on this phone since I never before used win mob.
Thanks! ~patt

1) My laptop doesn't have bluetooth, so I don't use it. I don't know.
2) Xperia X1a is the NAM version aka American Model. It only supports ATT's 3G network. It does not have the right frequencies to support T-Mobile's 3G Network.
X1i, or international version, does not support any American 3G Networks.
I guess you learned a lot of things but you forgot to research if it supports 3G lol.
I don't even have 3G service as I don't need it, and I am a college student who gets free WiFi internet!

So you got EDGE working? Isn't EDGE an alternative to 3G network? Is it for T-Mobile?
Anyways, are you transferring from phone to phone, or from pc to phone?

Alright, try this:
In portrait mode,
1) Tap Start Menu (Top Left)
2) Tap Settings (within Start Menu)
3) Tap Connections (Bottom Center)
4) Tap USB to PC (Center)
5) Tap to check "Disk Drive (Faster File Transfer)"
6) Tap ok (Top Right)
By the way buddy, Disk Drive mode actually does have faster file transfer, actually it's always 3 times faster.
ok, now
7) Connect your Phone to PC via bluetooth
8) Open your "My Computer"
9) Look for a disk drive that you think is Xperia's external storage code
10) Open that disk drive and put whatever the hell you want in it.
11) Tell me if it works

Edge is the slower internet so I got it working.
And yes this is the 2nd thing I do not know how to configure... I was talking about phone to phone it goes to my documents on my PHONE first not the MEMORY CARD

anyway to switch between activesync and disk mode quicker? maybe a panel?

Will Three UK sim card work on Touch HD?

I know the Three (3) sim card is a special U2 or U3 sim card and should only work on 3g phones. Does anyone think it will work on the HD? I don't want to buy the phone and then use it on the 3 network for the remainder of my contract only to discover it will not work on the 3 netork in the UK. Any opinions appreciated.
Thanks!
BTW I feel this is the best phone ever (well so far). I can't wait to get hold of it. Only thing it lacks which would make it perfect is a flash and internal storage. So excited for it to be released.
I'm in the same boat...
But as far as I'm aware, if your phone supports 3G, then you are ok with a 3 sim. I've tried my 3 sim in a couple of phones and so far that rule seams to have worked.
I can't see any manufacturer having made a special effort just to accommodate 3 and yet lots of phones do work with thier sims...
Still, further confirmation would be good.
My problem is that I used to use these dual sim things to switch between work and home sim on the same phone. they don't seam to work with 3 sims.

To elaborate slightly
I currently have a 3 pay as you go SIM in the touch HD and it works fine. So far I have successfully used
3g/HSDPA - internet with my laptop
DATA - connectivity on the phone ie; mail, browser traffic, weather etc etc
VOICE - Works just fine as expected
Skype calling is also working allbeit the app is a little slow
I was on a contract with 3, bought an HD from Expansys UK with a T-mobile contract. When I got my phone, I put the 3 SIM in the HD and it worked perfectly for calls and data until I ported over my number to T-Mobile.
Does anyone here know the settings to access Planet3 on Opera so I can check my usage and balance? When I go to mobile.three.co.uk it takes me to the website version and not the mobile version. I heard you had to change the user agent in config. Any ideas???
Can anyone confirm if they are able to get a data connection on the 3 network when out of 3G signal? I understand that for 2G access the phone uses the Orange network. When it does this for me I cannot use my data connection. PIE and Opera Mini just hang. I can get on the Planet 3 site but that is the only site I can access. Do others get the same problem? Over on this site they say it works:
http://www.mobiholics.com/content/3/271031/3-fiver-a-month-payg-data-suddenly-working-in-2g-area
But it doesn't work for me!

On GSM you can only access planet3 and some of it's sub-sites. You need 3G to be able to browse the Internet, but you can still use Skype, push email, and MSN(i think) on GSM. If anyone knows the full list of services you can use on three.co.uk over GSM, that would be handy.

Many thanks TheNemonic, the 3 network would be perfect if you could also access the web on GMS when out of range of the 3G network! I wish there was a work around.

Trouble Connecting to AT&T EDGE on my Topaz

Hi! I am experiencing trouble connecting to AT&T EDGE on my unlocked Topaz. I purchased this phone aware of the fact that I wasn't going to have 3G available but not having EDGE as well is very disappointing.
I have an AT&T GoPhone account and I have also installed the recommended settings from the Connection Wizard that popped up when I had inserted my SIM Card. However, I constantly have a gray E icon on my status bar and I am unable to access the internet. When I test the internet connection by trying to update the weather I get the following error: "The answering modem disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings."
I have called AT&T they kept me waiting for an hour and were not able to help me. They were going to file a report for the tech support to review but they did not file the report that because I did not have another telephone number to give to them beside my cell phone for them to call me back(I am an international college student, I don't have a land line). I then tried to get help from their online chat support but their system won't allow me because my account is a GoPhone. So I am stuck here with my $450 dollar phone not able to enjoy its features to its full extent .
Is there anyone else that has experienced this problem? Or is there anyone that could help me configure the connection settings manually?
Thanks!

Check with your service provider that the edge service is enabled for your account. Then check you have paid for the correct plan (I don't know the procedure that applies to AT&T, but they may require all this).
If you have everything enabled/paid for then there is no technical reason why you should not be able to connect unless there is no service in your area!

pa49, thanks for your reply. I am sure that edge service is enabled for GoPhone accounts (not 3g though) and I am sure there is service in the area. If I am not wrong, the gray "E" icon on my status bar is telling me that there is edge available but that I am not able to connect to it.
I am just hoping that there is someone here that is using an unlocked HTC touch diamond2 in the united states that is able to access the internet via edge.

Go into Settings\Connections\Connections\Advanced and make sure both networks are set to MediaNet and take out the proxy server if there is one.

Ok. Make sure you have the correct settings. Then in Manage existing connections tap and hold the modem connection and delete the entry. Reset the phone and then input the settings again manually. Don't let the phone run the auto connection setup.

Unfortunately what you have suggested is not working also :S.
Maybe I have something wrong with my settings. Even though I have done a lot of searching in order to find the correct settings for an Unlocked Diamond2, I have not been able to find the settings specifically for an Unlocked Diamond2 with WM6.1/6.5. The settings I found were for previous versions of WM or were for another HTC model.

What radio are you running?
I hate to say it but I don't think your going to get it to work. And I'm sorry because its all my fault! See for the past 4 years I have been a DM for AT&T and one day I was braging to our "smartphone support team" about how with my 8925+WMWifi+PayGo account with the 19.95 unlimited data package I could brodcast 3g wifi speeds through out my entire house with no need to worry about being charged overages for the 5GB soft limit (simply because no "real" info is needed to create a paygo account you can just say your name is Jon Doe and the give you one)
Two days later I got an email that the prepaid unlimited internet service had been disscontinued forever :-(..... And much more security was added to the system....
Your best bet to get internet working on the device is to put your sim card in an old moto razor (this way your razr IMEI doesn't flag you as a "smartphone" ) dial 611 and subscribe to the highest data package you can which is like 200MB or something.
Then you can put your sim card back in the TD2 and you should be good to go... for 200Mb's that is.... then your SOL...
and again sorry... you know what they say "loose lips sink ships"
or if you have a credit card or bank account switch to Pick-Your-Plan its a lot cheaper minute wise in the long run and you can have unlimited data just make sure to give them a bogus IMEI to some crappy razr you can find in every household....

Turn off data (but keep wifi) for international travel (using local SIM)?

I'll be out of the country and wanted to pick up a local SIM card. I'm not sure it will have data available on this local SIM (or lets assume it might, but might be crazy expensive).
I'd like to use the phone only for calls and also use the wifi for some very limited browsing (so I don't have to cart a laptop with me).
What setting combination do I need for this? I can't do full "airplane mode" b/c I will want to enable the wifi radio.
thanks,
Mike
To answer my own question (a few more hours of Googling), it looks like APNDroid may be the answer to this dilemna... but if there is something better, would love to hear about it.
Hmm well if you get a card with no data service then you have nothing to worry about. Just find a wifi signal and you're set. If you do get data service but still want to use only wifi, one solution is to only use data services when you're connected with wifi...... and don't use them when you're not...... the phone will prefer wifi over 3G/EDGE when its connected. If you really need to get rambo with it you can just break your APN settings to guarantee no data connection over the network

Rambo... see attached.
What I mean is you can break the access point settings by, for instance, removing the password in Settings>Wireless Controls>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names. That way your phone would still make calls but couldn't connect to the mobile data network if it tried. There may be more subtle methods, but the commando approach is often more fun... do a google image search for commando if you're not sure what i mean
Unless you know the Access Point password, it may be more practical to alter the Access Point Name if you want to maintain the ability to connect later - ie, if I changed mine from "epc.tmobile.com" to "epc.immobile.com", I could change it back later.

telstra hd2 using 3 simcard (hutchinson)

sorry if this has been discussed. its been hard to search b/c the search engine continues to delete "3" from my searches.
basically, i was wondering if people had any issue with 3 sim cards working in the telstra hd2?
my friend has got several hd2 phones from telstra and is offering to sell me one. he assures me the phone is unlocked as well.
we tried plugging my 3 sim card into his telstra hd2 and for some reason i wasn't getting any reception. tried a vodaphone sim and it worked.
i currently have an omnia and know how to change all the mms, internet etc settings but is there something i need to do with the telstra hd2's setting to find 3's 3g network for voice calls?
thanks for any help you guys can provide me.
Technically there shouldn't be any issues with reception. Your friend might have locked his phone to WCDMA 850MHz though, which is a band that only Telstra transmits on. Check his baseband setting.

how do i check his basband settings? unfortunately i don't have the phone on my now, but is it is pretty straight forward? i.e. going into settings -> baseband etc?
Open the Comm Manager by tapping the notification area and then on the network reception button. Tap on "Phone" then its on the bottom- "Band"

I have a Telstra HD2, that I bought a week ago, and am using on 3.
The phone is unlocked, and should auto setup when powered up first time with your 3 SIM card in it.
I used it a few days with stock rom, then flashed to another.
A few things to do.
Probably best to do a hard reset of phone, with SIM in, and let it reconfigure and start. (to hard reset, hold down the VOL UP and VOL DOWN buttons while turning on, and follow the instructions)
When all done, set locale, time, etc
Need to set the voicemail number (333)
Need to change connections to use PLANET 3, and not MOBILE INTERNET
Planet 3 homepage on the mobile should be HTTP://THREE.NET.AU (no WWW)
As it uses 850 when in country, it will roam on data on the Next G network (I beleive), and would be referred to by 3 (if they had it) as a MEGA MOBILE (tho you would want a BIG bank balance if ya gonna data roam on Telstra)
I am in Perth, and no probs with it with 3

Just open the back case and softreset to get it back to normal.
On 3 with a Telstra HD2 also. Works perfectly normal, but I flashed out of the Telstra ROM - running Miri16 atm, works fantastic
One thing with three.net.au is that it doesn't recognise the HD2 in some places, hence I have wordsmith's Opera Personality Switcher to mimic an iPhone.

Hi Ali+htcHD2,
I believe that you have your 'network settings' configured to WCDMA only.
Go into your Comm Manager > Phone Settings > Menu > Netowrk Selection > Band > Select your Network type > Auto
Do this for both drop down menu's on that page, and then hit ok.
This should fix your problem!

my n7 cant connect at 3g

Just bought an Asus nexus 7 3g 32 GB and I bought an micro sim card. I have 1gb to spend on data but I can't connect the nexus. Are there any setting I have to make to be connected? The signal bar is full and I received already some welcome message from the mobile company I signed. I connect at the internet via WiFi now and works fine but no via my data connection. Something else. Is there any way to use my n7 to make phone calls receive or send messages? I am very sorry about my English and thanks spending time to read this either you answer or no.thanks a lot. I live in Greece and I have a contract at Wind network.
