Connecting to network shares (different problem) - Networking

I seem to have this strange issue where I can do many operations over WIFI (e.g. FinchSync), except connect to network shares. Some other people have mentioned this, but mine has a different twist: I get a message saying that I can't connect to a network path with my current connection settings, yet I have my WIFI working.
I run an HTC Diamond (WM 6.1 Pro) on Telus CDMA in Canada.
Any idea? I've tried everything, but I can't get my head around this. I tried changing the settings, but I don't want ALL my internet apps to connect through my Wifi, because obviously I'm not always around it. Still this seems to be the only other option.

tried using total commander?

Hum... for mobile? No I didn't know it existed. However, there must be a way to have two Windows OS to talk to eachother without third party software, isn't there?

Same problem
I have the same problem. I tried Totalcommander today and it didn't work. Ik got error 53 and thats all. Other idea?

I got so fed up with network shares on my phone that I disabled it.

Alpine WiFi Manager

Does anyone know of an add-on software product that would substitute for the built-in wireless manager on the Alpine -- or is this a function of the Microsoft operating system?
I have a problem that when I go to my local coffee shop and try and pick up the wireless connection there, my device sees about 3 different available wireless networks. I have tried to click the preferred and non-preferred network box under the wireless manager settings, but I would like something that would help me specify EXACTLY what is the preferred Wi-Fi network to access (my coffee shop's). I don't see how the Alpine determines which network is the "preferred". It seems to get locked in to an endless searching for networks when there are 2 or more available networks to choose from.
try google 'wifi companion' works for me.

Problems with Wifi Companion proposed by Maichelp
Hey,
I have used the wifi companion - nice software. Problem is that since I have been using it, I've been getting a Pocket PC Networking error message box every 10 minutes. THe network is fine during that time, but it still gives me the message. Never happened before WiFi companion. I saw a few others with the same problem with wifi companion. Might have to do a hard reset...
Anybody (e.g. Maichelp) have any suggestions short of hard reset?
Thx.
I dont have this problem. I dont know.
sorry
I'm sorry,
if i'm not mistaking!
Look in the windows folder on your device, there are 2 files called WIFISDK.DLL rename 1 to WIFISDK1.DLL and try again.
this wil do the trick.

Help connect to wifi

Hi all:
I have an AT&T tilt. I am trying to connect through wifi. I can see the network I just don't get connected. I have gone out to local cafe where there is free access and can see their network but still I cannot connect. Any ideas?
Thanks
So, I am still trying to get connected to wifi. I have tried a new phone, I have talked to htc, I have talked to AT&T. No one seems to know what to do. Everyone points fingers at the other company. I tried to install a new radio. Everything else seems to work except for the wifi. Can anyone on here help?
Thanks
perhaps a little more info is needed?
-have you tried wifi at home/ friends house(with wep key, etc)?
-what happens when you try to connect?
-Does it try to connect but then switch to Available?
*most likely means that settings are incorrect or you do not have priveleges to access that.
-Or, does it try to connect but then switch to Unavailable?
*most likely means that your wlan isnt refreshing as often as it should.
I have tried different locations such as Starbucks etc. I am able to connect with my laptop. I can see the network on my phone. If I try to connect it says connecting and then available but it does not connect through wifi. I am sure there is some simple answer ( I hope) but I have read the manual, I have been to customer service several times, I have talked to HTC tech support, no ones seems able to get me connected.
It all works now
Ok, so I was about to return my Tilt for something else. I had been through sereral different tech supports at AT&T and HTC. No one could figure out what was wrong with the phone. Finally I tried flashing several different ROMs. Eventually I got Slueth's V3.0 to work. It works great. WiFi connects at multiple locations, the phone works, the camera, etc. So, thank you slueth for your rom.

Strange Marketplace problem

Non branded hd2 on stock wwe 1.66 rom on t-mobiles network. For some strange reason I can connect to Marketplace via t-mobile but not through my home wifi, on wifi it says unable to connect to server, pls check your connection (the that it has encountered a serious problem), but my connection is fine as I can surf via wifi no problem. I uninstalled marketplace, soft reset, reinstalled, still ith problem persists, anyone else have this?
BUMP
some mobile programs require a cellular data connection to work properly. I'm guessing marketplace is one of them.
On second thought, looks like I can access Microsoft Marketplace on wifi. Are you sure that your wifi is working and doesn't require going through an approval process? (Some wifi's have a home page that you have to agree to terms on before you can access)
I had the same problem with Active sync with a cable I could surf the internet but couldn’t access market place downloads (Marketplace could not cannot connect to a server) so I disconnected and just connected to the modem Wi-Fi and no problem with Market Place all downloaded.
Strange
Had this issue myself with T-Mobile,
After months of searching it would appear that the problem was that Marketplace requries and authentication code and at some point when using the phone this was switched off.
From what I read the person didnt know how to change it within the phone but could view that it was turned off, they put on a new ROM and Marketplace flew into action.
I followed this and also slapped on a new ROM..... has worked for me and am using Marketplace to the best of its abilities.
Basic answer....flash a new ROM!

Problems using remote access to phone

I tried a few different remote access programs to access files on my phone and all of them failed to work properly. Programs I've tried include the following:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/remote-desktop/pl.androiddev.mobiletab
http://www.appbrain.com/app/remote-web-desktop/net.xdevelop.rm
http://www.appbrain.com/app/wireless-file-transfer/com.lextel.transmit
Is there some kind of "firewall" that might be blocking access on my phone? This seems to happen on different ROMs so it doesn't seem to be an isolated issue.
I even tried different browsers on my Windows 7 computer (Firefox and Internet Explorer) both of which failed (page not found).
Anyone else has similar problems or know of a solution?
Thanks.
Does anyone have a similar problem? Stuck with this now. Thanks.
Most of those kind of apps require your phone and computer to be on the same WiFi network, is that the case?
Thanks for the reply. Yes, the last one (Wireless File Transfer) actually won't work unless I'm connected to WiFi. Once I have the connection, the button is not blocked allowing me to enable it. I waited over a minute to see if I can connect from my browsers (Firefox & IE). Both say page not found. I can't even ping it which is weird.
The remote desktop seems to work directly via 3G. It gave me my phone's IP which I tried connecting to and once again, got a page not found.
Can anyone try any of those programs on their HD2 to see if it works? Not sure if it could be the ROM I'm using, but it's the HD2ONE ROM using Clockwork Recovery.
I'm using HyperDroidGBX NAND ROM and still experience this problem. Remote desktop apps (whether it's to connect to a desktop or have a desktop connect to the phone) are not working. I can't enable file sharing apps either (ex: File Expert).
I also want to use the wireless tethering feature. Since I've seen most of the ROMS don't have this working properly, I downloaded the Android Wireless Tether and have the same issue with it working. My computer could connect to the phone without any issues but I can't get any webpage...I could however ping them (ex: google.com). I tried the suggestiongs at that webpage including changing channels and removing the encryption passphrase.
Is there some kind of limitation by the phone or computer? I tried this both using WiFi and on the phone's data service with no luck.
Thanks.

Wifi not working

Creating a new topic, because the other one is tagged as solved, but it doesnt solve my problem however.
So my wifi is not working, it's connecting to any wifi hotspot but not sending data thru that, which ends in failing loading any pages on IE, cannot download any apps from market and so on...
Anyway this is what I tried so far:
1. Flashed to stock rogers (also tried different Tango roms)
2. Did hard reset procedure via hardware keys (Format all Yes)
3. Did hard reset procedure via About menu
4. Did hard reset procedure via Samsung Diagnosis code sequence
5. Logged to my wifi network, everything looks fine at this point.
6. Opened IE and entered google.com:
"We're having trouble connecting to this webpage" (sometimes no error message but white page with scrolling bars appearing on touch)
7. Tried to access my wifi router via IP address (192.168.1.1) - the same results like above
8. Tried to ping my Samsung Fous IP (192.168.1.18) from my PC with success
9. Disabled wifi network security on home wifi router, the Focus still not working
Additionaly tried a method that fix issues with wifi after using latest wp7 tools, but it didnt help at all.
When using my providers APN there is no problem with opening pages on IE etc., but it's not Wifi.... Internet is also working if I have USB cable plugged in, but again it's not wifi.
Cannot use warranty, the phone is from the USA and I'm in Europe... without any warranty service.
What else I can do, maybe there are some diagnosis codes that can actually help with real diagnosis on what happened with wifi on my phone?
Hello again (from the other thread). For completeness, add the following:
- current OS version
- did/not use WindowBreak
- when did the problem start (if you can identify an event and OS version/revision) - or you noticed
There might be a test for wireless in the "diagnosis codes"... Good luck!
After you use the diagnosis fix, it might take some time, mine didn't work immediately but after some time, it detected my home network. But it seems you are able to connect but internet does not work, this is certainly issue with router/DNS settings in your phone, because I have faced these problems in iPhone, it might wrongly mapped to unreachable ip, but never faced this issue in Windows Phone, you might try changing the default gateway/dns settings, you should also reset your modem/router, and try basic setup before WPA/WPA2 setup

Hi there
Currently using 7.10.8773.98, (MAGLDR 2.0) but tried different versions, even vanilla pre-mango ones, they didnt work well with wifi on my phone either. I checked it at friends home wifi, which is totaly different network and routers.
I never used WindowBreak, never had to because my phone was already unlocked long time ago with ChevronWP7 application.
Noticed the problem about 2 weeks ago, but I didnt use wifi too much, so it could started much earlier. Last installed application was WP7 Tools 0.8 alpha, and all I did back then was using some built-in tweaks (3G?) if there is any, cant remember to be honest but for sure I wasnt editing registry or anything like that, I just play some games from time to time, cant event tell why I installed it, maybe because I noticed there is a new version. I cant tell because I never paid attention to it especially with rare wifi usage at a time.
I have isolated the problem I guess, and it's not the phone's fault. Something wrong with the main access point (Mikrotik) at my place. This is weird because everything is working just not on Samsung Focus. I digged thru many options and couldnt find anything that blocked or stuff like that. Well took it to totaly different place and another wifi network, and guess what - it's connecting to wifi with data flow...
Anyway consider this topic as solved.
