What is the youtube's video codec? - G1 General

Hi, guys:
I just did some rtsp capabilities test on G1. Found that G1 didnt support h.264 well through rtsp, but the mpeg4 is fine. The youtube's video played on G1 looks having high quality. Can anybody confirm for me that is the youtube's video encoded by h.264 or mpeg4? And does it transferred through rtsp?
thanks.

I think it is some kind of flash-video codec, not the ones you mentioned. Adobe monopoly.

Youtube uses mpeg4 video for it's HQ streams, flv video for the LQ ones. The G1 gets served an mpeg4 stream regardless of the quality.

720p mkv files?

on my touch pro ive had no need for watchin super high res videos but with the hd2's screen i figure why not.
do free players support mkv files and do they actually play without stuttering?
I dunno about 720p files without studder but it might do it, depends on how well it was encoded.
On my Fuze I have played some MkV files on Coreplayer as well as FLAC and OGG without issues.
Easy answer - no.
If you want best quality, recode them to 800x480 MP4.
But if you're into series, the standard xvid versions already play beautifully.
double post, sorry...
I used Handbrake for encoding files into MKV and MP4 to play them in TCPMP. The best results i had with MKV, more sharp, more brighness and they´re running without breaks.
so for 800x480 what other video settings did you pick for mkv to have it play perfect? i got a bit of stutttering on the file i tried today
Sounds Interesting.
just use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467112
Xvid is easier on the processor than H264 so you will get better results with it, just up the bitrate to 2Mbps+ and it'll look better than the the 750kbps H264, and it'll play faster as well.
CPU
did you know that even G4 Cpus cant handle 720p Perfectly!
also, there is absolutely no reason to watch a 1280×720 resolution file on a screen that is only 800x480.
it will give you no advantages visually.
no, but time advantages if it wasn't necessary to reencode the video ..
This phone should be able to handle 720P, I mean my old i8910 (600Mhz CPU, 256MB RAM, native DivX/Xvid support) could play most 720P I threw at it, so certainly the hardware isn't the main issue here...
m720p mkv's converted to mp4 using winmenc (and the audio sync fix to counteract the hd2's sync problem) and playing on windows media player looks great
hmm, do you have soo many 720p sources? i play normal tv shows and movies as divx or xvid DVD quality, and that plays perfectly....

No choice, some of us have moved to HD media for quite sometime already.

hehe...for sure you can't play 720p mkvs on the i8910.

720p video playback ftw

I downloaded some 720p video trailers and downsampled them with ffmpeg to 2Mbps and I'm happy to say they played smooth and beautifully with the stock player and mVideoPlayer. Seeking was also very quick. I did try the trailers without any downsample (they were pretty high bitrate) but they wouldn't play, so I don't know if it was a bitrate issue or something else. Next test is 720p HDMI out as soon as I receive my type D cable from Hong Kong.
how's shooting 720p videos in the dark? Do the fps go down?
shooting 720p sucks ass and looks bad, i don't recommend it. plus it shoots in mpeg4/3gp format instead of h264/mp4 which is lame.
720p playback is all great and fun, but... will it play H264 Main/High profiles? As with my current nearly-dead Touch Pro I can only play H264 baseline profiles smoothly, Main/High profiles arent supported so CorePlayer has to use software rendering, which for 480p vid does only ~8fps

Can the Galaxy Tab play high-profile .mkv files flawlessly?

Can the Galaxy Tab play high-profile .mkv files flawlessly?
What I am talking about is 720p .mkv files with high bit rate ( 4,000+ kbps ) without DTS sound (just AAC sound) flawlessly?
The Xoom is having problem in this department.
Also, what player do you use? Default, or Rockplayer or others?
Standard video player plays 1080p and 720p without any problem...

i use mVideoplayer, like it that it can extract subtitles from mkv.
Stock video player has played everything for me fine
swyped from a galaxy far far away...

High bit rate 4mbps? Compared to what, a cellphone video? XD
I got the tab to read PERFECTLY a full hd beast peaking roughly at 40mbps. H264, obviously. Was an mp4, but i doubt that a container will make any difference, i did watch several 720p mkv on the tab anyway.
Oh, i almost forgot: all this with the built in player. Using rockplayer in software mode, that 1080p beast ran at 2-3 fps.

I have played 720p MKV file. But no player seems to play it smoothly. And most of them does not play the sound audibly.
Worse, the stock player do not even recognize the file type. H264 videos are flawless.
any suggestions for the MKV player?

I watched like 6 episodes of Panty and Stocking with the stock player. MKV with subtitles (i had to convert them into srt and put them outside the MKV container...) in 720p and clearly with h264 video and aac audio.
There is maybe something wrong with your player?

I've got some mixed results.
Most files play fine, 1080p or 720p, but it has problems with some files with only DTS or AC3 sound included.
While the galaxy tab is the best media playing tablet I've tried (not tried the archos 101) it failed to play a 720p blu ray rip with 9 reference frames I think it was encoded with matroska libraries later than 1.0
Stock Player is amazing. I cannot stress that enough. It can play 1080p and 720p high profile mp4 h.264 videos flawlessly. Only gripe is the non-support for > 2ch audio, but this can be easily remedied via an audio demux with Yamb -> downmix to stereo -> mux new audio with Yamb.
I don't even watch movies on my HTPC anymore, I just downmix the audio, leave the video alone, and paste the file unto my device.
That's.
how.
good.
it.
is.
I found that using Rockplayer universal with hardware decoding mode plays just as well as the stock play but with the added function of allowing you to choose which audio track to use. However if you have an integrated sub title track mvideoplayer is better. However what the device can play isn't limited to profiles, as I found the tab can play high profile but content encoded with some of the newer matroska libraries, it struggles with.

[Q] Xoom video formats

I have some 720p MKV videos with H264 video AAC audio that I wanted to load onto my Xoom, so far I haven't been able to get it playing smoothly at 720p with mp4 H264 and AAC audio but Mpeg4 seems a little blocky.
Does anyone have any suggestions on FormatFactory (or some other mass conversion tools) settings I can use that gives me the best video quality at a good frame rate?
from how i understand it the Tegra 2 has issues playing high profile H.264, i had a notion ink adam for a week and it was the same thing on this as well.
when i get my wifi xoom ill test it but i expect the same results.
I loved my zoom but I think that's one of the most unacceptable situation for zoom. good amount of people bought zoom is for video play back. at the least, if you should be able to play anything you throw at it. I hate apple but that's one I cannot trash the ipad

I cant even move .avi to the xoom... if anyone knows how please let me know.

In Windows 7 it tells me with a lot of file extensions that they are not compatible but I ignore the message and copy them anyways. Then they play nicely on the Xoom. I've used .m4v, .mp4, .mkv, .avi.... just ignore the error message and copy the files. Then use Rock Player Lite to play.
i don't know about the format factory, i download a free version of a xoom video tool, it recommend the h.264 mp4, size: 1280*752, frame rate:30fps, bitrate:1500
The above parameters are just for your reference, sometimes, video playback quality also is based on your xoom player.
whats the name of the tool?
what is the name of the tool / free xoom conversion software you used?

In the first place, i help u find the formats that xoom support.
Audio Playback Supports: MP3, AAC, ACC+Enhanced, OGG, MIDI, AMR NB, AAC
Video Playback Supports: MPEG-4, H.264,H.263
u need to convert your mkv to mp4. i use Fox Real Xoom video converter and set the parameter is mp4, h.264, 1280*752, 1500kbps, 30fps, and i can get full screen on the xoom.
so i suggest u also set on Formatfactory according to the parameters. hopefully it can help u!

i used a free version of a tool which named xoom video converter, but there is a logo "foxreal" in the centre of the screen. at last, i took about $23 to buy a official version, now everything is ok.

Just buy an SD-Card and play them natively with MX Player, or Diceplayer. No need to convert anything.
Totally agree! Can't beat MXPlayer for functions! I missed the samsung player for a while on the S2 when I used a custom rom, but then I found MXPlayer. Now I even gotten myself the 'PRO' one to support further development

Dude I know that I can play them on mx player or even the default video player.its juts that I wanted to know what setting I should use if I wanted to convert the videos for the default s4 resolution, cause normally theres always black areas below and above the videos or u gotta zoom in which causes a bit of the frame to cut out .
So if someone could just get me some good converter settings..

You want to convert a 2.35:1 video into 16:9? Why not just scale it? You are going to introduce clipping if you want to get rid of the black bars, and re-encoding only results in a loss of quality. I don't know what exactly you are expecting if you already know that scaling cuts off a bit of the movie.
Try xilisoft video converter. It has a conversion option for galaxy phones

Your movies are in 2.35:1. They will always have black bars, it's intended to be that way. If you play those movies on an 80 inch television you will also have the same borders. Either zoom in, which degrades the quality, or watch them as they were intended.
Or, simply only download 16:9 movies. Problem solved.
Here are the video settings supported by Galaxy S4 from Samsung's official site:
Video
Codec: MPEG4, H.264, H.263, DivX, DivX3.11, VC-1, VP8, WMV7/8, Sorenson Spark, HEVC
Recording & Playback: Full HD (1080p)
So you can convert your video to 1080p H.264 .mp4.
Why Convert Video to Samsung Galaxy?
Have trouble in playing MP4, MOV, MOD, AVI, SWF, DIVX, MPEG, FLV, MVI, MKV, 3GP, WTV and more video files in Samsung Galaxy phone including Samsung Galaxy S5? Why?
Reason one: Though Samsung announced to support FLV, 3GP, WMV, AVI, MP4, MKV, DivX, Xvid, etc, we still encounter issue when play them in Samsung phone since these formats are container formats which may contain codecs that are not compatible with Samsung Galaxy Smartphone.
Reason two: Samsung Galaxy doesn't natively support MOV, AVCHD, MPG, DV, ASF, SWF, MOD, etc as input formats.
How to Play Video in Samsung Galaxy?
Convert MP4, MOV, MOD, AVI, SWF, DIVX, MPEG, FLV, MVI, MKV, 3GP, WTV, etc to Samsung Galaxy video formats with Faasoft Video Converter.
