Weather Program Combination (Development Idea) - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

How do everyone? I'm trying to combine two weather programs but have run into a problem. I originally wanted to just add the icons from one to another, but now that I need help I have a more ambitious journey in mind.
---
The programs are: Tonaya WeatherToGo (WTG) which is freeware and the ever famous SPB Keyboard. I'd like to add the icons (skins) from SPB to WTG so the footprint stays small while the look improves immensely.
1. WTG
Pros: free, small footprint, great weather source (noaa.gov), today screen plugin, multiple cities, updating options
Cons: only works for US cities, today screen is only accessible by touching screen, icons are old and stale, product no longer developed so it may not work for VGA and WVGA screens.
2. SPB
Pros: looks great, multiple weather sources, today screen plugin, works internationally, for various screen sizes
Cons: Size, size, size (extra large footprint) and not freeware.
---
So I tried to import the skins from SPB weather into WTG, but I only have the cab file for WTG and couldn't insert them. Honestly, I would be satisfied with this improvement and if someone wants to give me directions I'm willing to take them.
If a developer wants to work on this I'd be happy as pie and would only ask for idea credits and a QVGA version being made automatically.
---
Yes I'm aware there are a lot of programs but these two are my favorite after years of use and I would love them to be combined.

SPB or SBSH?

I am a very happy user of the SPB Diary/PocketPlus/Clock series but I can't help but see that there is a huge world of customization for the SBSH PocketBreeze and iLauncher programs.
Does anyone know off hand which uses less system resources?
Anyone prefer one over the other? Why?
I am just curious, because I almost want to buy the SBSH suite even though I already have bought the SPB set.
Sbsh -- HANDS DOWN!!
For me, Sbsh was the winner -- hands down. Their apps were MUCH more customizable than Spb's. And I found that the Sbsh products used less system resources. I use Pocket Breeze, iLauncher and Pocket Weather
The only Spb products I use are Spb Time and Spb Finance. The Spb Time program give the option of a fullscreen display clock that Sbsh Clock does not offer and Spb Finance syncs with MS Money on my desktop so I can keep track of my finances during the day on my Wizard and not have to wait until I get home to enter everything into MS Money.
Another thing I like about Sbsh's PocketBreeze is that I was able to add a custom tab for the Spb products, as well. So, I can access the Spb Time AND the Spb Finance programs with one tap onscreen.
YMMV, but I HIGHLY recommend Sbsh!! There's EXCELLENT support on their forums as well. Can't vouch for support on Spb forums, as I didn't run the programs long enough to actually register on their's.
Can you make custom tabs to run Today plug-ins on PocketBreeze?
My bit with SPB's PocketPlus is that it take a big footprint on my Today screen on my Wizard when I have Chi-Dang's Battery Status, PocketMax's PhoneAlarm (with the Media Phone skin), and the Device Lock all on my device.
I would like to make a seperate system tab where I can put Chi-Dang's Battery Status in there with other system items...
I am almost curious to getting it now...
If a program appears on the list of available Today plugins on your device, you can assign a custom tab to it.
The only tab in PocketBreeze that can't be deleted is the Calendar tab. By default, it also has a tab for notes, messages, tasks and Special Events. You can choose NOT to use those and/or replace them/add your own.
Attached are some screenshots of my Wizard. I have mine set up so the tabs are vertically aligned on the screen, rather than horizontally aligned. You can run PocketBreeze minimized, or run it with one of the tabs opened -- by default it would run the calendar tab.
It has a 14 day fully functional trial period. I didn't wait the full 14 days to try it. I was sold after about 3 days and bought it. And, from what I'm reading on the Sbsh forums, there's an upgrade in the works, too!! All upgrades are FREE to registered users.
Hm... Now I am really intrigued... I may have to give it a whirl or even purchase it!
PocketBreeze is a MUST HAVE for me. The special settings to draw a border on the cleartype text and how it display my next appointments and todo's its amazing.
Bot programs can be tested on the emulator
I'm a big pocketbreeze fan as well
after trying both...I choose pocketbreeze handsdown...I love the display, the icons, pretty condense for the amount of info it displays, amazing amount of customization, and what's great is that you can add any today plug-in into pocketbreeze as another tab
fantastic (just wish they would work on AKU3.2...oh well)
SBSH for sure.
SBSH is more "customizable" and more "heavier" than SPB. I try both and stopped on SBSH. It looks more beautiful for me.
I like SBSH product for all teh above reasons as well. The ability to make a tab for ANY today plugin sealed the deal also. I also like the availability of custom icons for iLauncher vs. pocket+.
Free trials are a wonderful thing.
The only SPB products I really like are backup and time.
I just wish that iLauncher had a alt+tab function like PocketPlus

Traylaunch

One of my all time favourate programs is traylaunch, a utility that puts shortcuts to programs in the bottom bar. It works well with the Athena, but the icons are taken from the programs themselves, not VGA, and therefor look, let's say, less than desirable.
Does anybody have an alternative for this very useful (free) utility?

Click to collapse
You might look at BatteryStatus (full version), which includes a tray launch feature.

you might try Ilauncher , or if the program you have just needs bigger icon files... try some of the end user's icons contributed at SBSH's Forums
I agree that iLauncher is a far better way to go because you can fill not just the whole screen with nice looking right sized icons but can have multiple pages of them too. However, I'm having some problem dealing with custom made icons in real vga mode at the moment that I still hope to resolve soon. See my posts under posting your today screen and real vga threads.

User Interfaces

Hi, I wonder how many TF3D alternatives there are. I've been playing with Bell UI (nice but not so useful...), Point UI (too bad latest versions aren't compatible with VGA devices, looks very promising!), SPB Mobile (probably the best one, simple, effective, with a Black Today page Classic which suits the Diamond just perfect and has a lovely big analog clock, big weather indications, big net signal strenght & battery icons, missed calls, mails and sms, and all in one page! ) and WisBar Advance Desktop (which also is nice but just slightly better than Bell UI).
Here, I'm asking you if I'm missing something, or what do you think about the mentioned above UI. Did anybody drop the TF3D for another UI?
SPB pocket plus is great as an enhancement for the standard Windows Mobile Today screen.
You can create up to 6 tabs, each holding a combination of Today plugins, shortcuts and photo-contacts. When the tabs are set to auto-hide, you effectively have an extra page that appears when you minimize a window or press the Home key.
I have mine configured so that my homepage shows just a task manager and controls for Pocket Player. See my signature for screenshots...

[Suggestions] - One Today plugin to rule them all....

So I tried to stick with TF3D for as long as I can but I dislike a) how slow it is b) the number of steps required to achieve simple things, thus hindering productivity a lot.
I came from the HTC Touch (elfin) and I loved the regular HTC Home with the big clock, and the 5ish tabs. It allowed you to see the time, play music, see the whether, overview of messages, change backlight settings, rotate screen from that small widget. As well it still had room below to add your own today plugins! Not only that, it looked relatively nice. Simple but effective and elegant.
TF3D I feel is just all "prettiness" and I just really dislike the effort it takes to do simple things.
So now I'm on a man hunt to find the perfect today plugin for my uses. I tried installing the HTC Home plugin but the widget looks all distorted on my HD. So I was wondering if someone could make suggestions on some good today plugins that I may find as good as the HTC home one on my elfin.
I've taken a look at the likes of SPB mobile and WAD but I'm not really in the idea of an entire today replacement, more like useful plugins for the today screen... but by all means if you have a great suggestion for a today replacement I'm open to all and to testing them out and seeing which is most suitable for me.
Thanks a lot!
Ultimatelaunch. Takes some time to configure, but then I think it's perfect.
You can make it look like HTC home, for example. Or you can just implement a bunch of different today plugins like weather, calendar, RSS etc. together with program icons on several pages.
You can do about anything with HomeScreen++ (Battery Status)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=350510
Hmm I'll take a look at Ultimate Launch seems promising... I have Homescreen++ installed but never knew it had that much function... I'll have to look more into that then. Keep the suggestions coming! Thanks
before tf2d came out for the polaris i used to have, i used a custom batterystatus screen. i tried ultimatelaunch, but just as soon as i would get it all configured, it would start causing problems, and i finally had to remove it i tried a couple of different versions, but they all came crashing down for me if i wanted anything very complex... i hope it works better for you...
you might also try spb mobile shell 2...
SPB Mobile Shell is a very polished retail UI. The only problem with it is that WVGA is fairly new so people haven't developed any/many nice themes for it yet.
Two UIs that I'm keeping my eyes on, that are still in development but can be used to some degree, are Today Life (post here) and FEWidgets (post here). If those two were combined I bet there could be some amazing themes for our Touch HDs. All they need is for more of our awesome developers to look away from TF3D/Manila/Etc for a minute and check them out.
They use XML and Flash, so just imagine having custom backgrounds and custom shaped buttons that'll load anything you want. So someone could take, for instance, a picture of an airplane cockpit and make buttons that look like the switches or dials. Or a bookshelf where you click on the books. Or... Ideally you would want the buttons to be shaped and colored to blend in perfectly with the background. Just imagine what could be done!
I used to use SBSH PocketBreeze as the main today screen and add vertical Tabs.
But, I've been seduced by TF3D and its shallow prettiness !!
However, I do have SecondToday running very well and up pops SBSH with its loads of Tabs.

Fastest Today Screen Replacements/Additions

Hey all,
I'm wondering what the best option for a Today Screen replacement or addition to make it more finger friendly on a 6.1 device.
Of course, SPB Mobile Shell is very nice, but I'm looking for something more streamlined, with very, very little memory or CPU usage.
What other options are out there, and what do you think is best?
Anyone?
There is nothing low memory for our limited titan. spb is the best. I suggest to get a new phone with tf3d
do a yahoo search for HTC.Kaizer.Home.Plugin.with.Tabsetting.schen.cab
it looks exactly like the htch touch homescreen, and works wonders. it didnt use too much of my memory <2mb
Have you looked at HTC Home Plugin? I use the HHCv10Final which is the customizer program. The HTC Home Customizer is a FREE tool that allows you to fully customize your HTC Home Plugin settings. With it, you can customize the background, clock, tab icons, and weather icons and more. Another really cool feature is that you can add color to the icons and large display clock your today screen.
If you just install the customizer it will check to see if you have the HTC Home Plugin already installed and if you don't, it will download and install it for you!

Claunch1204 is also good. The file size is only 186K
Yeah I just recently added HHC to my phone and it works great. I highly recommend it if your bored with the default skins
