Hello,
I just bought a HTC Dream off ebay, it closed at $255.00 new, of course, it is T-mobile branded and is the "G1". I became fascinated with the android port for the Kaiser (mine is a tilt), and decided i wanted the android phone everyone was going on about. As you know, because its a tilt, i am with at&t and the Dream is unlocked, will i have any problems making this phone work with my network? Everything ive read says it will be perfectly fine. Along with that, having no experience with Android except the port to the Kaiser, ive only played with linux on my laptop when looking for a new OS. But, is there anything i need to know about the Dream? As you know everything isnt working on the android port, it does enough i can use it as my full phone, but other then the market, few apps., and the browser, i really know nothing about the operating system.
As far as I know you won't get any AT&T 3G on the G1/Dream, but apart from that everything ought to work.
I am on ATT right now and have the G1. Its a wonderful phone. I also had the Tilt before this one. This phone has so much potential. The only flaw that i have found is the ATT 3G doesn't work and that theres not bluetooth file transfer, but besides that. I love this phone.
The 3G doesnt bother me, as i dont live in an area that has it. You could say i live in the "middle of nowhere." The nearest city with 3G im near is probably St. Louis, and thats about a 5 hour drive. And the bluetooth is ok, i never really use it. Have you had any trouble using the Dream with at&t so far?
I also have one more question. Being an open source OS, how does android sync with computers? I have a macbook pro which I use syncmate on to sync my tilt, windows mobile device center on my hp laptop running vista, and activesync on my desktop running xp, so, how does this work? Since it is open source, like OSX, will there be any programs made, or are there any out already? And how will it sync with the Windows computers? Sorry for all the questions, I have never used anything but a WM phone whish is smple for these types of things.

This Phone doesn't sync with your computer like a Windows Mobile Phone. It syncs with the Google server over the internet. You can mount the phone and view and move files to and from it like you would a Usb drive.
Hmm...maybe i am thinking of KC MO? I could have swore St. Louis had 3G. So, your saying i cant conect to my comp. and go through the phones files like on WM? And what exactly do you mean it syncs with googles servers? I guess when i log into my google acount it syncs what ever data is on the account? Thats what i am understanding from all that i have read.
sorry for the typo, i meant can not cant connect, i am viewing the site from my tilt at the moment so not everything turns out perfect.
When you connect the G1 to the computer the G1 will have a notification. You then will MOUNT it to the computer to make it into a USB MASS STORAGE DEVICE. Then you will be able to browse the files on the sd card. And like the person said above the G1 syncs with Googles server. All your contacts, calanders, gmail will be saved to your gmail account. Make sure when you first setup the phone to setup the APN to ATT, so that you can use the EDGE network for ATT to register your G1. Its kinda a pain to have to setup the APN each time you wipe the phone. But i dont mind it, because this is an awsome phone.
Alright, making mores since now. Thanks for all of you taking the time to explain. I know the APN and such, im using the Android port for the kaiser right now, so i have a little feel for everything that has been ported so far. Is there no way to save the APN settings to the SD card? I thought i read somewhere before that you could do that? All this talking about the phone is making me anxious, cant wait for it to come in.

Ummm... I hate to break it to you but unless you are a freak accident, St Louis has excellent 3G coverage since last October. They have had basic 3G since '06 I think, and last October they HUGELY extended it, about 40 miles further south (YAY! about 15 miles from my house now!) and widely elsewhere. St. Louis has a HUGE 3G coverage area now. Check it out under data at http://wireless.att.com/coverage-viewer and then tell me there is no 3G again.
its in
well, i was just informed that my new dream is in, i wont be home for two hours or so, ill tell about my likes and dislikes and such after a bit.
Well as it turns out, got the phone, and it works great. Popped my at&t sim in it and rebooted, it wants an unlock code, dose anybody know where I can get one fore free? I don't want to pay the 20+ dollars to some of the plasces I've found to get te code, andive read to get it through tmobile you have to be a customer for 90 days. Does anybody have a solution for my problem? Id really like to use my phone! Thanks in advance
Unfortunately there is as of now no way to unlock it for free. The cheapest unlock I have seen so far is on modmygphone.com, the sister site of the famous modmyi.com iphone modding site. So it is trusted and I believe, although I could be wrong, it is only $12-13. Sorry...
Thanks for the info. I went with www.unlock-tmobileg1.com. Ive read much about it so i figured id go ahead. Hopefully i get the code soon, as i am very anxious to use this phone, ive showed it off all night, i just havnt gotten pass sign in. grr. Hoping i get the unlock code in a few hours, for now, i will sleep on it till morning.

Hey folks,
First up I know this is against my T'n'C's but we're talking hypothetically here ;-) oh yes and the fact that I was originally sold this contract for connecting my laptop and PSP to the internet even although it's expressly against my T'n'Cs so I don't feel wrong about doing it.
I'm trying to connect my laptop and PSP to the internet via my Vario II (aka Hermes) from t-mobile. Several concerns crop up
1. since i'm not on the pro package I'm not allowed to do this. Ergo t-mobile must not know I'm using a laptop.
How do they detect it?
I suspect VPN on the phone might get round it...although I've had difficulty configuring it.
Would opening a VPN from the laptop after connection decieve t-mobile?
As regards browsing I assume they're just taking the browser information that the laptop's browser gives them. I suppose you can spoof that somehow?
Lastly for the psp I simply want to stream media from my desktop to my psp when I'm on the move using 'pimpstreamer' - I doubt this protocol will be too noticable.
To effect this connection though I'd need to perform the 'wifi AP' hack I've seen talked about on the wiki....
Problem is I can't seem to find Internet Connection Sharing under programs....Is this something that can be tweaked to be invisable under the registry like the GPS module in the settings section?
Thanks again for your help folks!
If you have the unlimited data plan (only $20 a month), simply turn on Internet Sharing via your phone and select "Modem Link" or whatever it's called. Plug in and voila. The PSP, not so sure.
I have a T-Mobile contract also. You shouldnt worry too much. Even if they can detect it, they dont particularly care so long as you dont go over the 1GB fair usage limit. I connect my laptop all the time and have been doing so for the past year and a half. I even went as far as buying a datacard and using that and still no complaints.
Once, I downloaded 4GB of data via my contract when my internet connection at home went down. Not even a peep. Now I only use my phone for basic usage and connect whenever I cant find a free WIFI but I still use it.
In case youre wondering I have Flext 30 with Web n Walk but I only pay 18.75 GBP per month.
Dont worry and enjoy!
There's an awesome program in the development section that actually allows you to turn your hermes into a wifi hotspot. it connects to the internet through the phone's connection, then shares that connection over wifi. It works perfectly for me, although I rarely really need to use it. Very hand; I wish I could remember what it's called. Search "Wifi Sharing" in the development thread and you should find it.

OT: WHAT!? How did you do that! I've got Flext 30 with WnW and I pay 32.50! And that is with a £5 discount!
Its against T-Mobile rules to use Internet Connection Sharing?
I got it because I signed up as a Curry's Employee and got a permanent lifetime discount of 50% off.
Yes it is againt their terms of service but as I said.. really doesnt matter.. just dont do anything that would make you jump out. Dont use more traffic than you should. Dont use it for VOIP and dont stream music/video to/from it.
I know what you are talking about because I also use it on my Hermes. It's called WMWifiRouter.
I do it all the time and I've never gotten in any trouble for it. Then again, T-Mo EDGE is usually too slow for me to want to use it on my laptop anyways.
I just use it when there is no WiFi available --- the edge is a bit slow, but still VERY usable. Never had an issue either.
I'm looking into that WMWifiRouter, looks cool as hell.
Thanks to everyone for their advice!
That program looks amazing...The website is currently down however...
Any chance someone could email a copy of the program to me at
verylastninja at yahoo dot co dot uk ? It sounds like exactly what I'm needing.
Also the cached page from google says I need ICS installed. 'Windows\IntShrui.exe' - I've checked and there's no such executable in my windows folder.
Does anyone know where I can get my hands on this exe? I'm about to try googling but am worried about getting the wrong version
Your sim works in a datacard? that's cool. How much do those things cost? Never even thought of trying it
Lastly I should say I'm running Microsoft Windows Mobile Version 5.0 (OS5.1.195 (build 14955.2.3.0).
I'm very curious how you access via a datacard as well.
Ah.... Sony GC79/GC89 is built for tmobile!
Although I guess you couldn't use your phone if your sim is in the datacard. Any workarounds to use both at the same time with same service plan, he he?
T-Mo charges $49.99 for unlimited internet, wow... but only $19.99 if it's unlimited on a phone, could consider adding a new "phone" to your account with unlimited internet and just pop the sim in the datacard and go.
Suppose there's not really a lot of difference between using your phone as a modem and using a datacard mind you. So unless they're pretty cheap I'd probably be best sticking with the varioII
Anyone know about the ICS bit? I've seen people reffer to it before. (I gave my windows mobile version etc on my earlier post btw) at first I thought it would be like the GPS settings in control pannel - hidden by some registry entry by t-mobile (and I can think why they would want to).
However that file reffered too Windows\IntShrui.exe
also what's AKU3? Sorry for being such a clueless n00b on this but I've got a little bit of a steep learning curve here!
Pretty pretty please?
Ok found ICSinstall.cab on here and installed it, soft reset, and attempted to install the latest version of the WMWifiRouter program (which I finally succeeded in sourcing!).
However I get a message telling me cryptically that it 'cannot be installed' after attempting install. I wonder if this is related to ICS...
I now have the InShrUI.exe file in /windows/ *but* attempting to run it gives:
'The file 'IntShrUI' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of it's components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file.'
I reinstalled it over itself (i.e. ran the cab again) same error.
:-/
Was this the right file? I seem to remember it was dated 11th January 2008??
Thanks again for hte help folks!
I got my titan about a week ago from ebay. And after a week of dealing with sprint to get it activated they told me it can't be activated in the system but luckily I had called before I purchased my phone to confirm the ESN was good and they reassured me it was so there going to send me a replacement titan. They told me I don't need to return my phone so basically I have an extra phone that can't be connected on sprint.
So how can I make this a productive phone with out cellular coverage and is there a way to lock the phone from placing calls?

well, it has WiFi, so you can use it as a mini internet tablet around the house, you could use it to stream music wirelessly from your PC, watch youtube vids, use it as a regular PDA or even use it to test custom ROMs
i thought it was possible to change the esn to a 6700 or another 6800... that would give you a working sprint phone to use..
Use it as a dedicated GPS, just need an app that has the maps on the phone already.
Thanx for the ideas, I was thinking of trying android on it.
Sell it for parts - They are going around ~100+ for bad esn phones. Would help pay for the working one.

So is there an Android ROM for the Titan somewhere?
I ran got a copy of it in this website
http://it029000.massey.ac.nz/vogue/
you unzip it to your sd card and run the exe file. I was disappointed since it runs on ram so its slooow and buggy but its worth looking at.
Flash it to Cricket then sell it. Cricket excepts bad ESNs. Or sell it to me.
limitless possibilities
1. it has wi-fi, so you have all the net
2. if you don't have wireless, you can use the new mogul as a wi-fi router, and you will have internet etc. which can all be run thru blue tooth. I am currently doing this with my working titan and an old blue angel. Really sweet!!!!!
3. it uses micro SD cards which are now cheaper than dirt. You can load Music galore and stream out thru BT, my wife is an avid reader and you can load a hell of a lot of books onto a 1-2G card
It can do damn near everything except make an independent phone call. You could probably VOIP it too.
Enjoy the free toy!!
Why can't it be activated? Is it on the bad list, if so that can sometimes be removed.
Without a network connection you wont get aGPS so no chance of instant gps lock. But it will still function reasonably well as a gps after you get a lock. I would recommend installing quickgps and htc gps tool and use it as a gps device (along with a off network gps program such as TomTom Nav, iNav, GarminXT etc.
It could also be a reasonable MP3/vid player but a lot bulkier than purpose built devices.
I like the idea of using it as a mini tablet pc and buy yourself on of those full size bluetooth keyboards (the virtual keyboard I mean, not the actual one).
Android hacking would be fun too.
I had the same problem, but I couldn't activate it because it wasn't a sprint phone...being with GSM I didn't know about that stupid rule.
so, I just flashed it with a cooked rom and sold it to someone with sprint.
Cut my losses, bought for 200 sold for 200...Never been so glad to get rid of a phone in my life.
VIOP
i didnt see anyone mention it...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1516154&postcount=12
I would offer to send it to the guy developing the vogue port of Android so that he can have a titan to develop with which could help out the effort of getting Android on our devices and finally get rid of WinMo which is just bleh.
Thanx for all the input, I ended up selling it on ebay. I just couldn't see my self carrying 2 titans at the same time.
By the way is there a way to make the sprint mogul work on the nextel network? I'm already planing on moving to the touch pro but I dislike my work phone Nextel motorola i580 (the worst phone i've ever used). I know there is a way to put a sim card reader on the mogul but I also know that nextel uses iden instead of cdma.
Hello all! Its 'That Guy' Again
I recently bought a new HTC Vogue because my old one had *crud*crap*Stuff* on the screen. I called into Sprint customer service as always when swapping.
Everything seems to be fine. The phone is working. Texting is a-ok.. Data is a no-go.
This new Vogue ahs not been *modded*Tweaked*Flashed* (yet)
However when I launch an app to activate the provisioning feature, nothing happens. It dials the usual #777 and proceeds with the 'provisioning data services" msg. But after that it just disappears.
I dont not get a reply back or anything. If I try to refresh the browser to loop through it once more it just does the same thing over and over. Provisioning-----Then nothing
After 2 hours with customer service at Sprint we have gone through just about everything we could think of.. Still nothing.. The phone is practically brand new! Is there something im missing here? Maybe a bug in a certain version of the stock rom?
My old vogue provisioned fine previously and after I flashed to Froyo it was pure bliss.. However this phone will not take the data onnection O-o
If there is anything I can do/attempt to do id be forever greatful! And ill gladly donate my old Vogue to anyone who can use the parts.. It looks like super glue or something in a 3cm patch on the touch screen.. It still recognizes touch on ALL parts of the matrix, it just doesnt look pretty. The shell is kinda scuffed but over the phone works perfect =) This was one phone I didnt want to (ORD) to death.. Thanks in advance to anyone who gives insight on the issue!
Are you running on the most recent Vogue stock rom? which is 6.1
Yes =) Im running the Stock 6.1 Pro from from the HTC website

I am not certain of what the Sprint rep asked you to do, but I have a feeling that your issue lies in the EPST programming. You are likely missing username and/or passwords under the Connections section in EPST. Give it a go and let me know what happens. If you need instructions, let me know as well...
I would be glad to take your old Vogue off your hands if you are serious about giving it away.
Sorry for the lateness! I did discover that she(the rep) had seriously messed up the epst settings in the phone, however after recovery still no data. Its almost as if the phone hates it lol. Eitherway in that case its not as useful as it could be. Ill really only bought the second one because it was new and i wanted the screen to be scratchless I dont mind sending you my old Vogue especially since youre already on the east coast lol ill log in again when i get back to the office and we can swap details.
Thanks again for you help!

There really are 3 or four things on EPST that you need to modify to get the device working properly (in most cases anyways): MIN, MDN, Username, Password, and maybe a couple of others to get better performance out of your connection (cycle, priority, etc). If you flash to stock, why don't you try to do *228 to do automatic provisioning?
Let me know when you want me to give you the shipping details for your Vogue. Thanks.
Only thing that pops in to my mind is that maybe you bought the phone off of eBay? Was it a "Sprint" branded phone, or like an Alltel or something that you activated on Sprint? I would imagine flashing the Sprint ROM from the HTC website would handle everything, but just as a shot in the dark, you could try to install the Carrier CAB (http://winbreak.com/winmo/voguegoodies) for Sprint.
NuAngel
@egzthunder1 Go 'head and pm the info m8! Sorry for the delay again im just hardly at this location anymore.
@NuAngel I actually bought the phone new from some rich guy on craigslist. It was flawless and my vogue had the previously mentioned "crap" on the screen.
It is branded Sprint and they activated the phone just fine as far text and phone. They are saying the data is active however no matter what rom/radio i use it wont access the data network. With WinMo it always says provisioning data but it never happens.. the browser goes idle. if i try to access any data apps it tries to provision but never seems to finish the job.. Android rom same deal just no provision of course. And as you know the Stock Sprint rom has also been flashed with no success of accessing data. Everything else works fine and i have the same service with my current vogue which works perfectly everytime.
If the data issue cant be resolved it will always make an awesome test device.. However, while I cant dig up anyone else having the issue, someone is bound to..

PM sent. Thanks a lot!
Whatever is causing this, after reading your explanation, now I am positive is in the EPST programming parameters. Android builds here have APNs for Sprint in there out of the box (no provisioning required). But to connect, it looks at the PST programming (just like WM does). I would try to speak with someone else at Sprint and see if they tell you something else. There aren't too many things that should be modified in there for the internet to work...
I am on TMobile not AT&T, I started with iphone 2g(jailbroken), upgraded to 3gs(jailbroken), got tired of my iphone and decided to get this mytouch 4g, mainly to have better speed and performance. I am not an apple fan boy, and really dont care for apple products. Have been hearing so much great stuff about Android, that I was really excited to switch.
Now that I have this mytouch 4g, and made the switch, I am really shaking my head. When I plug in my iphone it automatically sync's up with Outlook 2010, zero effort is required on my part, contacts, calendars, tasks, etc done. I have now spent 1hr on phone with TMobile tech support & 2 hours on phone with HTC tech support. So far zero sync up happening with mytouch period. If I turn the phone to disk drive I can see it on my pc no problems, but USB tethering, no way. I mean how in the world do manufactures expect people to put up with this kind of crap. If apple can figure out how to make this sync up happen with zero effort, surely some other manufacture can make this happen without wanting to slit your wrists.
After spending the 2 hrs with HTC tech support, the excusses for their incompetence is incredible. Well we just havn't gotten our software quite right yet, well then why sell the phone. Outlook is what every business in the planet uses(well the majority at least) and you can't figure out how to make your phone work seamlessly with it, are you kidding me? Well you need to create a gmail account, why, I already have too many work email accounts that works fine why do i need another? So now i created a gmail account, exported all my stuff from Outlook to gmail via CSV, I am still saying WTF. So now everyday when I want to sync up this mytouch, i have to export everything from Outlook to CSV, then import it into gmail just to get my latest info into the phone, please tell me I am missing something here.
Now I am reading that the wifi tethering is going to be an additional cost? Someone help me here. Is there a work around for this? On my iphone, I just hit MyWi and I can create a hot spot that my laptop works awesome with and no additional cost, nothing to plug in, just surf away. Someone please tell me I am missing something here with this mytouch.
I really want to like this phone and keep it, but damn why is everything such a PIA? Phone feels good in my hand, don't love the interface, but can live with it, have not played with the apps yet, but I assume most everything that I have on my iphone I can find in Android. I am on the fence here, and need some help and insight from the Jedi Master here. I am not trying to be a hater on this phone, I just don't understand why so much grief, hell my old Moto Razor back in the day sync'd up better than this thing does.
What is the deal with this mini usb plug as well, have to wonder how long that connection will work for, its certainly not a smooth plug in deal.
Help is very much appreciated at this point.

Can't help you with the other stuff. But that plug is a micro-usb that almost every single phone made today, minus the iphone of course is going to. Its a standard that has proven great with blackberries for a couple of years now. So instead of searching for that iphone cable, you can use the same cable everyone else has. Along with most 2.5" harddrive cases, etc.
Excuse Me but did you expect the android OS to be a magical extension of your brain and not have to bother reading any manuals or instructions. I would bet that if you took time to read rather than just posting hate syncing would be no problem.

Check out the program companionlink. This is what I use and it automatically syncs all my calendar/tasks/contacts etc from Outlook to my gmail account and then automatically syncs to my phone. It syncs both ways, when I make a change on my phone, it syncs and updates Out look on my PC. Will this work for you? Don't know but it's the best solution I have found for me.
As far as wireless tether, you will have to root (jailbreak) your phone if you want the wireless hotspot feature without paying tmobiles monthly fee. It's simple to do though.
Just curious, have you tried this? https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gappssync

Have you installed the driver here? http://www.htc.com/us/support/t-mobile-mytouch-4g/downloads/
On my first myTouch, I hooked it up to my computer and it recognized it straight away without any issues.
On my second, I had to install this before it recognized it then I was fine.
Picasosz-I guess you missed the part about spending 2 hrs on phone with HTC tech support? So far I have reinstalled the drivers 4 times now, reinstalled the HTC Sync software twice. I have rebooted my comp so many times, I am scared it may not start the next time I do it. Really, you think the manual would tell me more than the tech support guy at HTC?
According to the Tech Support guy at HTC, the best Sync software to use for this phone is 2.0.40 that you need to download from the HTC EVO, because they have no software for the HTC myTouch 4g as of yet.
What I do expect is that I plug my damn phone it and it automatically with connect to my PC. Hell my printer does, scanner does, portable HD does, flash drive does, iphone does, and my 4 year old Moto Razor did. Is it really to much to ask that a brand new, latest and greatest, phone to plug in and Sync up? I think not. I am sincerely asking for some help, hoping someone has had similar issues and can provide me some insight. Your comment does nothing to help, so thanks for nothing.
dinan, that app looks great, I will try that, hopefully that works, TYVM.
Some years back, Microsoft invested millions of dollars into Apple's development for the purpose of integration of MS software into Apple products. Google, on the other hand, would rather you keep using their "cloud" based stuff. If you really need seamless Outlook integration, get a WP7 phone. You should have done more research before committing to a Google OS.
Google apps sync is $50/year & companionlink is $40.
I guess I am just screwed.
Thanks Xfoo for your input, I just never guessed that this was the case, assumed everything was pretty integrated these days.
Going to hold out for a week before I send this phone back, I think TMob has a 14 day return period, maybe HTC will pull a rabbit out of their hat by then and come up with some new software. The Tech Support guy kind of indicated that might happen due to the amount of people complaining.
Guess I never knew how good I had it with my year old iphone.
Who uses outlook?
A lot of corporations and businesses still sadly use it.
And If you need perfect outlook sync go with windows mobile. Android isn't meant to be synced to outlook or anything like that. The only thing you are suppose to need to plug your phone into a computer for is to put stuff on the sd card or to charge it. Googled created android with the cloud in mind and for me and a lot of other people that works great. For people that need a phone for syncing to outlook get windows mobile plain and simple. I love the fact that I can go on any android phone type in my google account name and everything is synced, I have all my emails, my contacts, events, and app data. Android is a smartphone but it really isn't meant to be something that you should depend on for outlook. There are solutions out there but most of them are equal to you having to pay.
Outlook and the rest of the PCs with their local storage are increasingly going the way of the dinosaur. Everything will be in the cloud shortly. Google's impending OS is one big glorified web browser. I'm sure it will be very successful as are most other Google's products. Server admins will need to find a way for their colleagues to access the company's servers via secure web protocols.
So, to the OP, in order for this transformation to take place, there will be pains for those who rely on being tethered to a PC, but a more natural company to take the reigns of this business than Google I do not know. Google is almost entirely a web services company. So, naturally their mobile OS is going to be tied heavily to the cloud and not to native software running on a PC. While it is very much possible to sync and tether via 3rd party apps, many will find that what ships with their phone suffices to bring everything they need to the table in today's mobile environment.
Have you ever thought to sync all the data from outlook to a gmail account and use the gmail on your myTouch?
Exchange and all my other email took me 1.7 minutes of toilet time to setup.
If you like things to be already done for you... get the iPhone, because that's what it's about. You get things easy and limited. Dumbed down for the average consumer.
If you enjoy freedom, choice and a little DIY satisfaction... go Android.
Exchange was really simple to set up. It took me less than 5 minutes to set it up. Frankly it took longer to type in my strong password than it did for it to connect to the server.
Not sure what your issue is. I have never needed to plug my android phones into a computer, that is the beauty of android.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Why do you want outlook to sync when you plug it into your computer? This sounds backwards and silly to me. Just have it sync OTA. Al Gore didn't invent the internet so that you could post on forums whining about how you're the only person in the western hemisphere who has never seen a micro-usb cable before. He invented it so that you wouldn't have to use the cable at all.
So what I'm saying is either log into your exchange account with the Mail app and let it auto-sync the calendar. Or shell out for touchdown, which is a little more full featured.

Why would you want to do something that requires effort. Use Gmail, Yahoo mail, Exchange activesync, POP3, IMAP or any of the other wireless syncing services built into the phone.
Hey Guys;
So this is my rant about the Samsung Focus. I'll try to keep this brief.
I've been a huge fan of the Zune HD and since day one I've said that I'd switch if they ever add phone features (I was on a 3Gs at the time.)
So enter WP7; I LOVE the UI SOOO much that even though it's missing some really key things I was willing to overlook that and still got the Focus.
- I called AT&T to make sure they'd let me unlock it BEFORE I bought it because I'm taking a trip to Europe for a few months so I need to be able to use their local SIM. AT&T said "NO problem!" Once I got the phone however it turned into "We're not allowing it to be unlocked for 6 Months" (AT&T Sucks)
- It was suppose to take 15 minutes to active, it took 2 days (AT&T sucks)
- found out that WP7 doesn't connect to wireless networks that don't broadcast SSIDs (MS is clueless!) UPDATE: I take this one back... Still a pain, but maybe I'm being harsh...
But even after all these ridiculous issues that had me calling AT&T OVER AND OVER again, I was willing to keep the Phone....
Then came the deal breaker....
Since this is a really new OS from MS, They're supporting the newest exchange servers (2008) and if you're company doesn't have those new exchange servers dependable account syncing isn't in your future! mad:) I've been able to get it to sync, but it errors out before it finishes and then it's unstable. Shooting errors out all the time. Came across this forum: http://tinyurl.com/focus-outlook
So now I'm about to crawl back to the OS I abandoned (android)
Worse of all; I put my 32Gb MicroSD card in the Focus and although it works great, I can't figure out how to format it and get it usable on other devices again. Only the focus can see it now... (has someone come across a fix for that yet?)
So there you have it... I'm not having a good phone week...

Firstly, the lastest Exchange is 2010 If you're not already on it, you really need to! It's awesome!
My Omnia 7 synched up first time, I really didn't expect it to be able to deal with the client certificate, but it seems to handle it all invisibly. I'm very, very, (VERY!), impressed by how flawlessly it has worked.
If you're not on Exchange 2010, you need to get your company into the Microsoft Partner Network and you will get licences for nearly all of the latest software. We jumped a version (from 2003 to 2010) and the improvement is gobsmacking. Exchange 2010 is so much more efficient, the servers are flying!

Yes Smoothound, you're right it is 2010; my mistake.
And as for my company switching; I don't think I have any pull in that department. I don't think it's a good idea to call them out on the internet. Lets just say this is a company thats known worldwide as a household name ( and also just bought a dying phone brand due to their OS) I'm actually surprised that they're behind on that tech but I have no way of incluencing an upgrade unfortunately. I'm sure it's in the works but for when I need it, it's too little too late...
ActiveSync is working fine for me on Exchange 2003 without any issues at all. So, no, you don't have to be on the latest version of Exchange.
I'm pretty sure I have Exchange 2003 here (I know it's not 2010 or 2008) and it works just fine. The first time thru it wouldn't download images that were embedded in email but I'd pretty sure that was because of the half-assed network I was using at the time. When I got home and connected to my own network, did a hard reset and set it all up again, mail worked fine. No errors, nothing, just email. I read the same thing about the iPhone 4, too, but it works fine against my server, also.

So now I'm really confused...
And when I set it up the first time it worked well too! All emails Contacts, and Calendar updates were flawless...
I have my corporate mail synced on my phone and iPad so when a mail comes in they all ding at the same time... Somewhere along the line, the focus stopped digging and I haven't gotten it back stable since....
When i set up the account automatically it has no problems finding my account but eventually errors out after pulling down some emails and contacts...
I can set it up manually but it doesn't make a difference.
I really don't want to return this thing because the only other phone thats useable on AT&T in my opinion is the iPhone 4 (or the Captivate) and I REALLY don't want to go back down that dark path
Any suggestions guys?

It has to be your Exchange infrastructure. I have tested the phone with Exchange 2003, 2007 & 2010 and they all work flawlessly. I'm an IT consultant and I have used my Focus to make sure it is compatible with my customers networks so that I can recommend it.
The only thing I'm sure is unusual about my set up is that since it's a dev system and it's just me using it for mail, I don't use SSL and have it turned off at the phone. Everything else is entirely straightfoward. I would think Microsoft would have decent integration between two of their own products BUT the phone is a Rev 1 system. You might take a look around the MS support site to see if anyone has had problems and if there's a reason and/or correction you can take. I second the thinking that it's probably something with your server and/or network but that's about the best I can do.
We are using Exchange 2007 and it works without a problem after the policy was corrected. Windows Phone 7 will not sync if the policy requires your phone to encrypt or strong unlock password (alphanumeric password). Our admin made a Windows Phone 7 policy for these items. Considering you cannot take the microsd out and it wont sync to desktops.. the encrypt is not a big deal.
In this thread the guy says going back and re-enter the information might work:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833863&page=2
This happened to me as well. We have an Exchange 2003 server and what I did was go to "email and accounts" on the phone and went through the proccess and setup everything correctly but still got the error messages.
Now this is what fixed my issue (strange). I got out of the "email and accounts" and went into all programs list and opened "Outlook" , from there I put the settings in again for my account and presto, it just started working and syncing.
I did 2 phones likes this already and it works. Dont ask me how, but it does.
Hope this helps OP and anyone else using Exchange 2003.

I'm wondering if that additional microsd card you've in the Focus is causing you issues. I would remove the card, and hard reset the phone. Put in your Exchange info again and see if it doesn't work fine after that.

My company uses Exchange 2003 and I have had NO issues.. Works very well. Curious, what version of Exchange?
Sorry to hear about your issues. If I were consulting you prior to this I would have indicated that corporate users should let early adopters take first swing at the phone before you go for it but it sounded like you were willing to go through some pain.
As for the SSID, I wanted to comment that I think it is sort of unfair you are indicating that MS is clueless on that front. I have read many things from the wireless alliance and they seem to have been saying for more than just a few years (2006) that hidden SSID creates more problems that it solves and that it is not a true security feature. Here is a security analysts take on it: http://blogs.technet.com/b/steriley/archive/2007/10/16/myth-vs-reality-wireless-ssids.aspx
So anyway, as the industry updates it's standards, MS will continue to push those standards, hidden SSID is not a standard and is actually confusing to other wireless networks and traffic congestion resolution problems.

So here's the update...
I find that if I set the exchange account to check for mail every 15 minutes instead of push, it seems to be more stable... Although this is really weird (cause the same config on my iPad and my Evo 4G for that matter seems to work flawlessly) I'm just going to deal with it. Although my statements at the begining of this post was somewhat hard on the phone I will say again; I really LOVE the UI. and the Display is amazing... So much so that I'll deal with the crap I think it's missing for a while.
Here's to hoping MS is as agressive with their updates as they've said they're going to be.
Thanks for all the input guys.
