I've searched about this subjects in the screenshot but i have not found a satisfactory solution for any of the issues, so as here in xda-developers there is the best of the best in pocket pc issues i beg for your help findind the solution.
many thanks to all the community for every moddification that made me happy with my phone.
Go to menu > options and tick the show contact names only and it neatens that all up.
I know it isn't what you asked exactly, but it may be a comprimise for the time being.
I can't tell you what the fixes are, I'm afraid, but I don't get the line number shown and I do get full numbers across the width of the screen with the standard Orange ROM in the UK, so it must be possible (have you tried flashing a different ROM?)
I don't generally filter by category, so I'm not sure if it's possible to set a default for that.

Hello All,
I'm relatively new to the forums in terms of posting but I have been to the forums a lot over the past 2 - 3 weeks searching for tweaks and hacks (which I've done a few already - THANK YOU TO ALL WHOM POSTED TWEAKS, HACKS, HOW-TOs, ETC. YOUR INGENUITY IS MUCH APPRECIATED!). I'm still debating on whether or not to 'update' my phone to WM6 and when I do - which 'variant' I should go with (I'm leaning towards LSVW....comments, suggestions, etc.).
But the main reason for this thread is to ask two questions in particular (I've decided to combine two threads into one to help make looking at replies much easier).
I have a question regarding the Phone Application - particularly the Call History option:
1) Is there a way to delete a select group of calls without deleting all of your calls from the call log/history (i.e. instead of selecting one call, select several calls by dragging and holding down on the screen until the context menu appears)?
Are there any registry hacks that will give me more options for when I tap the Menu option while in the Call History?
On my old Treo 650 - you could delete the last 10, older than two weeks, or all calls by default and I miss that capability on my Cingular 8525.
I've tried filtering out calls and when I went to delete all calls - I thought that it would only delete the filtered calls and not the entire call log/history. I've attached a screen capture just for FYI.
2) I need to know how to edit the Category listing on Windows Mobile 5. I know how to create a new one but I need to know how to delete an existing one.
Any & all tips would be greatly appreciated (even if they are to software that may be of use. I'm probably going to get SKTools - it looks like a good app to get)
Thank you.
Any tips can be appreciated. Thank you.
I apologise for starting what is, in many ways, an 'I'm a noob, help me!' thread but I have put some effort into researching each of these topics but I'm still left with questions, so I thought I'd just lay everything out there and see if anyone can help me.
Firstly, sometimes when I start to write a text message, the first character disappears. It shows on-screen for maybe half a second, then it's as if I've hit backspace and it gets deleted.
It's really odd, it only happens from time-to-time and so far I've not been able to discern any sort of pattern to this behaviour - it doesn't seem to be specific to certain contacts, nor does it seem to matter whether it's a new text or a reply that I'm writing. It's just completely random.
I've searched on this forum, checked HTC's hotfixes and kept an eye out on other fora I frequent that have anything to do with the Touch HD but so far I haven't seen anything about this.
Secondly, I've been trying to find a calender application that will allow me to enter 'rules'.
Basically, the hours I work depend on the day of the week but I work different days week-to-week. So what I was hoping for was to be able to program in a 'rule' that defines what constitutes 'work', depending on which day of the week it is and have it so that an alarm or multiple alarms go off a set period before the time I start work each day (to wake me up). Anyway, by having this pre-set rule, I was hoping that when a new rota becomes available at work, I would just be able to mark which days I was working and the calendar would automatically work out the hours etc.
I'm not sure if this is something most calendar apps are capable of or if it's a feature that just doesn't exist but so far my attempts to search for this have been fruitless, though maybe that's down to my choice of keywords or something...
In third place, what is, in all probability a fairly common question about syncing text/SMS messages to your PC. I have looked into this, I swear but there seems to be a lot of contradictory information out there, not to mention when I search the site, I seem to end up reading a lot of threads that are 2, 3 or even 5 years old.
This might sound a little sad but this plave is one of few fora where I can have a question and when I look or ask for an answer, I feel completely lost. So I suppose what I'm hoping for is for someone to come along, take me by the metaphorical hand and show me the solution suitable for half-blind, retarded chimpanzees, as I might just about be able to follow that...
Last up, I was wondering if anyone was aware of any Shoogle-like programs for the HD.
I've come across 'VibraNotify' by way of this thread, which I will be testing out soon but in case it doesn't quite do what I want, if there's anything similar out there that anyone's aware of, I'd appreciate the heads-up.
I really am sorry to waste people's time with questions like these.
I wish I could find all the necessary answers myself but, as I say, for some of them I can't seem to find any information and for others, I've found far too much.
I will be extremely grateful towards anyone who takes pity on me and is able to help out in any way, no matter how small.
Thanks.
Addressing your second question.
I am a long time user of Pocket Informant currently in version 8 and available for purchase or download a time limited trial at http://www.pocketinformant.com/
You can set up different "work" times for each day of the week.
Regards.
Ed
for the first point of your question, I also had some problems too with keyboard input so that maybe sometimes I wanted to type m and it actually pressed a (not exactly a common typo!)
I noticed that after a screen calibration problems were solved
start/settings/system/screen/Align screen button
hope it helps
alternatively, I can confirm that with Davideuck's v-5 and dutty's xtreme v1.9 ROMs I have never had typing problems

don't feel too bad, these are pretty advanced topics that i have not seen covered here
Regarding point 3;
as far as i know you can't sync SMS, tho you can back it up with PIM Backup
there is also MyPhone currently Beta
I have just patch with LEO08007 (HTC SMS update function) UK, HTC support site.
However, the most annoying thing is
-gsm (Random) and bunched up timestamp with long text message.
not only that the date is wrong for the UK. It now shows (month/day/year) instead of the uk (day/month/year) in htc message (all white background with black text)
in the HTC sense message (all black background with white text) - touch in bottom half then stroke up, you will see older message. Find one 2 days or older, it shows the correct date???
I cannot seem to resolve this but this is annoying me ;-p
All else, it is much quicker, loading, typing away, no noticable lag (not sure if this to with facebook linking)
I have been searching for hours using this but cannot find a direct discussion or fix on the points above Any helpers?
By the way i have checked the regions, the time, date etc. And they are correct.
It is only when I have applied the latest sms update function (14/01/2010). That all the date are in wrong order ie. (month/day/year) instead of previously (day/month/year).
Secondly it seem to apply the "-gsm" at the end message randomly!
Thirdly the date stamp and last sentence of long text message are ovelapping/bunched up.
Anyway, it be reassuring if some one can post to confirm whether they have the same problem.
Email fired off to HTC as i think this is potentially another bug.
yes, everybody has the same problem if u bother to read the heavily discussed topics.
u could try changing to a smaller font size for any 'bunching' problems. it did work for mine
Yes for your information I did research as much as i could, all i can see is sms not being sent/hanging about in the main inbox being the main cuplrit resulting from the new sms update.
So I do not appreciate your tone of language. I did bother to read thank you! This is a forum to seek advice from fellow colleagues about their experience and share any solutions not to slate someone for trying the best to find this information.
The bunching makes no different on the smallest text as it still bunched over.
I actually got a response from HTC who are looking into this given that i have sent the picture describing the problems I have encountered.

New Response From [ Steven (UK - Ireland Support (Tech)) ]
Hi
Thank you for your enquiry
It does seem that the HD2 may have experienced a technicality issue regarding SMS..This is being looked into..BUT with regards to network locked devices we cannot provide information regarding any updates regarding your network..You will have to contact O2 regarding this to see if indeed any updates will become available...OR visit our website to see if we have updates for O2 within the next couple of weeks.
Best regards
Steve

Received a response and it looks like there will be something in the next 2 weeks.
I am happy to receive a response acknowledging this!
Coincidentally the UK SMS update function is no longer listed on their website or any HTC website!
So the previously released SMS update patch is definately pant!
I just hope there is solid fix on such an integral function of a mobile phone which need to be reliable, efficient and works.
<quote> OR visit our website to see if we have updates for O2 within the next couple of weeks. </quote>
Not wishing to sound too negative, but having worked in various support roles for various companies, large and small, the above statement certainly wouldnt lead me to believe there is something due that they are keeping quiet about, it is a 'bother us later' answer, meaning 'go away while we look into it, but we don't want to say yes or no, so here is a maybe to keep your hopes up'.
Still., it would be nice.
Hi There!
I am trying to decipher the massive amount of information about all the ROMS available, but I am confused.
I know I need to update my Radio, and I'll likely just grab the latest and see how it does. I know I need HSPL so I'll grab that and do that first.
There are SOOO many ROMS around, but I am struggling to correlate which OS versions are 6.5.5 (I presume this is the most preferable one) over 6.5.3 which is what I think is what ships with the device? Some ROMs say 6.5.x which I am not sure how to interpret?
Are there some newbie guidelines to particular modders being known for certain things? I don't care about twitter, facebook, or any other social networking crap, but I do want excellent call quality, blisteringly fast, and a good web browser.. I like things that make the phone more usable, such as the 4 column start menu, more accessible unlock screens etc (would be nice if the unlock part was middle of the screen), 1% battery life etc customizations.. I dislike the clock adjusting every time I unlock the phone and I know I can fix that with a cab, but are some roms shipping with these fixes?
Sorry I know some of these questions may have been answered in the other posts but there are so many and it's hard to correlate. I did read the FAQ.
With my thanks for any information anyone is prepared to supply...
Big on my list is anything that makes the keyboard faster to input text for and I prefer horizontal qwerty over the default portrait which I can't seem to input quickly for.
Anyone able to personally recommend something that meets some or all of these needs?
WinMo 6.5 ships with the HD2 from factory, WinMo 6.5.x is the latest release of WinMo which is on the HTC HD Mini. It has the start button at the bottom and large buttons for the 2 softkeys (which personally I think look terrible).
6.5.x is usually put as it's either or - don't worry about it.
Best thing is to just try some ROMs (if you're sure the stock ROM doesn't do what you want it to do). All the features you've said you want aren't in the original shipped ROMs hence why they are only in shipped ROMs (although you can just CAB a stock ROM to do most of what you asked).
If you want a FAST ROM then I'd say have a look at the one in my signature - CleanEx. It's pretty much stock but has performance tweaks you've mentioned and most of the 'crapware' removed from it so you have tonnes of memory left to install your own apps.
Welcome to the forum and make sure you understand what you're doing (and what to do should it go wrong) before you take the dive into cooked ROMs
Anyone else have any other ROMS to recommend or any other comments to make?
Hi Networkn,
Am afraid no one is going to recommend a rom for several reasons:
1) At the end of the day the rom that works best is the one that suits the initial criteria you set out or which comes closest to that criteria, i.e its a personal choice
2) We have clamped down on "Best ROM" threads like this one because of all the firestorms that they have raised on here and point 1 above.
My advice to you is to sit down with a simple spreadsheet, list what you are looking for in a rom then visit each rom on here in turn (you probably only have to read the first 2 posts of each) and map out what they offer on your sheet.
From that decide what comes closest, read that thread thoroughly, understand what you are doing and go for it.
Hope this helps a little. PM me if you need more help and I will see what I can do.
For now this is being closed.

Requests & solutions for S5:Wifi tether, USB mass storage, Spell Checker, dualboot...
Hi, I have a rooted Galaxy S5, and there are so many things that ruin the Android experience in recent Samsung models.
In particular, after search on the forum and on the internet I'm still looking for the solution to all these problems for my SM-G900F:
- Working WiFi Tether without errors
- Enable USB MASS STORAGE (http://www.xda-developers.com/android/usb-mass-storage-app-for-recent-samsung-devices/ don't work fine)
- Weather lockscreen without use of GPS
SOLVED:
- A kernel with dualboot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447534 (but with @gokhanmoral was simpler!)
- ENABLE SPELL CHECKER: menu enabled, but RED UNDERLINE for errors run only in ART runtime! (??) See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2728177
- Remove S Finder and Quick connect from Notification Panel (This and many other problems solved on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2799050)
- Change bootanimation (tired without success Boot Animations root) Have to use something like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2369587. To create and modify http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189934
- Remove camera click (rename ALL four camera sound files)
- Change tone call keypad (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2124988&page=2)
I think the problems are common to many people. I will update the post with the solutions.
Thank you

So you are asking someone to spend their afternoon searching for you? There are a lot of helpful people here and if you asked about some specific item no doubt someone would try to help. But to simply dump a laundry list and expect someone to fill it for you is..
If you did a forum search and read a few threads you could find any of those items yourself. So why don't you?

These are things that I still have not solved while sifting through the forum.
I was expecting some response from someone for the individual instances, even with possible links, not the entire list, of course.
Many people are simply just to lazy, and never read the forum rules.

Fair enough. But that is far from the impression that your first post paints. If you care to elaborate more about what you have tried, searched for and the results thereof i.e. show that you have been made a good effort, then I or someone else will help you with some or all of those.
For myself, I am a lot more interested in helping people who have tried to find information or fix issues themselves and /or describe their issues in detail (making it tremendously easier to troubleshoot issues).
Your first request - change bootanimation
The S5 boot animation can be changed with an app like Boot Animations. Or you can use a file explorer and change the files yourself. You need root in either case. Alternately you can search for a flashable zip that changes a specific boot animation for you.
Boot animation files:
/system/media/bootsamsung.qmg
/system/media/bootsamsungloop.qmg
/system/media/audio/ui/poweron.ogg
/system/media/shutdown.qmg
/system/media/audio/ui/shutdown.ogg
.

Sorry, is that now the Samsung have too many details as to fix and the list was much longer in the beginning.
I think it will be my last Samsung.
They are also very brief because of my bad English, but this is the best Android forum in the world and so I have to experiment with the language!
Thanks for the help and even in this case the app that I had tried to change the bootanimation (Boot Animations root) did not work.
.
For the camera sound, I had to rename all four camera sound files. Doing 1, 2 or 3 still got the sound.. FYI.
ps a silent camera is bliss.
