Hi All,
There is bound to be a thread about this somewhere, but I cant find anything:
When you get a incoming call, you screen automatically activates. How do you change that?

then how would he get the call to start with. Does not sound like he wants to turn the phone off, just prevent the screen from coming on at times when a call comes in.
I thought it turns itself off by default whenever ur get a call !?
or maybe he wants to keep it in sleep mode while ringing.. didnt think that would be useful oneday..
try this
HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone\Sleep switch the value 0 or 1
Another thing
PhoneAlarm offers this option, and a lot of other useful functions....
Well, I want my phone to ring and/or vibrate when a call comes in. But i dont want the screen to activate, becouse I often "pick up" accidently. So, I want the phone to ring, wait for me to push the power butten, and then I can answer the call if I choose to.

Am sure that i have seen this somewhere but i searched to no avail.
When making a call the screen will still turn off, which means if i want to do anything during the call i have to push the power button on the side of the device to turn it back on to hangup etc.
Any Ideas ??
I thought this was a good thing. The screen turns off in order to save the battery. If you want it back on you just tap the power button and do whatever you want to do. If it stayed on for entire phone calls you would end up with very short battery life.
However, there may be a registry edit that can lengthen this time or make it stay on for the entire call. I just wouldn't recommend it.
For me, hanging up works when the screen is off. I think.
thanks guys, i just came from the phone world and i suppose i want my PDA to have the same battery life as the old nokia, but i also want all the cool pda features.
Just not going to happen.

it does, just carry a couple of extra batteries and you're set. Now the question is would you trade this for that?

Funny thing is i would carry the batteries. I got off ebay and ordered for my boss and myself car kit, batteries, and docking station with battery charger. So for the time that im not @ my desk or in the car we should be set.
Mine doesn't turn off during calls, but i do turn it off manually with the power button so my ear doesn't open apps during the call.
Mine doesnt turn off either, is this a rom specific or am i missing an option somewhere, at the moment i press the power button on the side when i make a call, cos im forever pressing the screen and opening stuff, then have to close it all when the call ends, let me know what im missing out on
Neil.
I WANT my screen to turn off when phoning..
How do I set this up?
Hey,
I think this is the same "timeout" that you have set for your screen to turn off in the powersave feature. I haven't looked, but I think it only turns the backlight off, not the screen.
Unfortunately the hermes screen is hard to see AT ALL when the backlight is off. Some past devices I had, you could still READ during daylight.
HTH
ok i find it funny that nobody thinks that it is anoying as fk that the screen turns off if you are calling say to activate a card or any automated answering service and need to type numbers in you dont have access to it ..so I guess I will re ask the question is there a reg hack to make the screen stay on while in a call any help would be nice ty

Hello-
I have searched around- but I was wondering if anyone knew of a program that would solve my problem with my key lock.
Basically, what happens when someone calls is my phone will automatically answer. Since the touchscreen becomes active, it will touch the answer button or some other button.
Some people have blamed it on the way I pick up my phone.. or the pouch.. or whatever. Frankly, the reason isnt what is important to me- I just want my phone to stay locked when it is locked and only allow pickup by pressing an actual button...
Any thoughts? I cant imagine I am the only user with this issue.

It could be wrong by setting up your PPC. You can check again as follows:
Settings=> Phone=> More=> Automatic pickup: do not select 'Answer incoming calls without pressing'=> OK

Nope.. that is not it. It isnt that it automatically picks up after a certain amount of rings.
If you get a call with the Wing, the actual screen allows you to press answer or ignore- even while in screen lock. You should be forced to have to press an actual button, imo.
Hi all,
The proximity function makes the screen go blank during a phone call. But if somebody sends you an SMS, the screen wakes up nonetheless during the call. At that time, your ear can easily press the red button that drops the call.
Has anybody a solution for this behavior?
regards, Rene
I don't know if this will make any difference, but it's the first thing that springs to mind. There's a setting in BsB Tweaks for "SMS Wake Up". If you ensure that that is disabled, it may stop the phone waking up when you get an SMS.
This obviously means that it would never wake up when you get an SMS, so there may be a trade-off there. Depends what you want overall.
Hope this helps
hold on a sec... what sort of trade off You are talking about?? this option means, that incoming sms won't turn on Your screen and wake up the device, but it is still delivered instantly and You can hear it's notification. imho it is a great tweak, a real must do.

To be honest, I'm not sure, but I believe that's what it is, yes. BUT, I thought it was turned off by default. Maybe check in BsB Tweaks the state of that setting.
When I call my voicemail [using google voice] it wants me to enter my pin.
1. Isn't there a way to program the dialer to pause, then enter the pin automatically?
2. I notice that the phone acts very quirky when on a call. In order to do anything when on a call I have to turn it so that it is in portrait mode, not landscape because it sort of 'sleeps' once I am on a call.
3. Being the phone wants to sleep when I am on a call, I can't seem to find a way to get back to the phone app and hit the RED 'end' button at times ..
Sort of hard to explain but maybe someone can do a better job if you have found the same problem. I love this BIG phone. I wouldn't even object to an extended battery.

Don't know about point 1 but i have just read that when making a phone call it has to be in portrait mode and as you bring it up to your face the proximity sensors will turn off your display to prevent unintentional touches is that what you were on about or have i got it all wrong
I don't understand all the technical stuff but to hold it, it has to be in portrait mode, but even if you have the speaker on and it is on it's back on the table, you can't press the keypad [once the call has begun] unless it is in portrait mode. I would like to turn off 'sleep' while I am on a call .. REALLY annoying.
SUGGESTION: Don't make any prank calls until you know that phone inside and out because sometimes hanging up the phone is close to impossible. Unless it's just me.

AHHHH so its you makeing all the prank calls to me LOL.
It dosen't say anything in the manual on turning off the sleep i will do a google and have a look
sssshhhh ... don't tell .. I have lots more calls to make
But seriously .. I called to check my voice mail and somehow the dialpad went off the screen .. Tried pushing buttons, but there apparently isn't one that will bring it back up .. Mean while I hear the recording saying the same "enter your 4 digit pin over and over." I would if I could find the dial pad again !!! Same if you are leaving a message .. if the screen sleeps, you are fumbling around trying to get it to come back up to click END.
Yes i have had quite some issues with it as a phone, specially when it rings but the screen is still in sleep mode for some reason. So you have to turn it on from sleep then hit the unlock before answering. This is a long process to accept phone calls, also when you answer the phone my ears always seem to hit the screen which triggers the apps menu....
I have had it since launch day and been trying to use it as a primary phone but i don't think thats working out. But as an MID its amazing I love using it, the screen is nice and great using it a a ebook reader.
When I get a phone call my screen comes on, unlocked and ready to answer.
My slight issues are my face is too small to go from the ear piece to the mic LoL

I too am having the same issues as many on here.
A-N-N-O-Y-I-N-G is what it is!
I can;t even hear anything out of the earpiece in the phone, although i can if i turn it on speaker...not a happy bunny as now i have to wait for a replacement!
One question tho, which has been driving me insane...
Does anyone know if there is some kind of 'file-explorer' for accessing the conent on the SD card?
The only way i've found so far to even get close to the files is through 'QuickOffice'... Would've thought they'd be a more 'convenient' approach to it...
Any ideas?
Yesterday I purchased a program called 'screeb.' It is supposed to be able to prevent 'sleep' when you are actually still using it among other things like battery saving things .. I haven't tested it yet but maybe others have ??

There are several free file explorers in the Market .. As for sound.. are you sure you are putting the right end to your ear ?? Seriously .. It would be easy to make that mistake when everything is dark ..

Yeah, definetly got it at the right ear
Will have a look round for a file explorer then, i just thought it would have came with one...silly me! lol!
If I had the phone on speaker and put it to my ear it would deafen me I think. Speaker is VERY loud. Could it be that you have the TTY feature turned on? [ I think that is what it is called, not even sure what it does.] I just can't understand why it won't work as a phone.
I have been trying to use BT only when using it as a phone. I am very afraid my earrings are going to scratch the screen.
I was trying to decide if maybe I should put the sim from my streak back into my iphone and then move the sim from my HTC Shift into the Streak until I got more used to using it. Especially if I am going to use it a lot for voice. I also use my phone for data more than voice.
ALSO .. wondering what an extended battery would be like .. Make it harder to hold? or give you something to hold on to... Right now my hand has to really stretch to grasp the phone ..
ANYWAY ... enough with all this thinking .. I should have been at work 15 minutes ago and I haven't even gotten in the shower.

I love British expressions ... Lately I notice that people in the USA are using them more and more .. The one that annoys me the most .. BECAUSE IT IS NOT OURS TO USE is the expression "gone missing." Everyone who is missing has "gone missing" and until about 1 or 2 years ago it belonged to YOU ... What I am trying to say is I like when YOU use them, but when WE do it sounds WRONG.

Your voice mail issue should be fixed by downloading the tmobile visiual voice mail its simple fast free. Also your sleep issues should be fixed with 2.2. I know with my N1 when I move the down it turns on.

I have everything with Tmobile but it won't let me install tmobile visual voice. Actually it says it is installed, but I can't activate it.
Just got off the phone with Tmobile and they turned on Visual Voice for me. Good. Next on the agenda is when a call ends getting back the dial pad so I can hang up ...

It can also be used in the contacts (just type p).

Maybe I throw my hands in the air to fast, but I shut off google voice and went back to tmobile 'visual voicemail.' It is sort of the same but I will miss google's voice to text translation via email SOOOOO MUCH ... It is probably the most entertaining application that I have ever had. I like to forward them to the person who left the voicemail and say "what?????"
It seems funny. But I can't use google voice here ;-(
first issue it's incredibly annoying when I am leaving a message on someone else's voicemail and they call me and I can't find a way to quickly hang up and switch to the other call. surely there is an option I am missing that allows you to hang up the call you're on an answer the other 1 but I end up hanging up on the person calling.
second I can't find a way to hang up the phone if I inadvertently switch from the phone to the home screen. is there a button that always hangs up the phone when you aren't on the phone dialer screen?
Notification, expand the current call one and there would be hang up.

When you get a call when you're already in one you can swipe to answer the incoming call. On the AOKP ROM there is a hangup button in the notification panel. If you're not running that ROM you can always just go back to the phone app then hang up.

its like an adventure in frustration to accidently call someone and frantically try to navigate through multiple screens looking for the damn dialer screen so you can hit the red bar

how???? the only options avaliable are for the incoming call "answer/ignore/text"
if i answer..then the other call is on hold and i'm bouncing around through screens again looking to find a way to (a) switch calls..(b) hang up the old one...(c) take the other one off hold.
that is super unwieldy especially when you're like 'hello??? hello??' making sure the other person is still on the line and the proxmity sensor keeps cutting in and out while you're trying to look at the damn phone, listen for the other person..look to see if you've managed to switch over...hit more buttons...listen for the other person..make sure you hung up on the wrong person...and then look for the 'hold' button flag and turn that off.
check accessibility, power button to end calls for accidental calls

Go into settings, accessibility and check "Power button ends call". If you need more than that, you might have to write your own script, app, etc.
Just don't hit your power button when in a call you actually want to be in.

THANK YOU!!! :good:
going out of my mind on this one. its super embarrassing when you accidently call someone you were about to send a text to and say 'i'm not available' and they're on the line going 'hello? hello?' while i'm trying to figure out how to hang up on them without speaking.
the power button is better than nothing.
the 2 line management is atrocious.
i bet i call someone at least 2-3x a week and get their voicemail and as i'm leaving a message for them..they call back.
then i'm in android-phone-hell trying to do something that *SHOULD* be a no-brainer.
i can't be the only one this happens to all the time. if i'm in a car its even worse (yeah yeah dont use the phone while driving) because i'm about to swerve off the road trying to look down at the phone 15x to switch calls and hang up on the old one.
what usually happens is
A. i answer the other call and leave a 20 minute blank voicemail on the original line which google leaves politely open the whole time i'm on the other call.
B. hang up on the incoming call in my attempt to hang up the call i'm on and have to call the other person back again and hope they pick up. this is DEATH if you're waiting on a callback from a customer service person.
this is horrible design. i know i'm not the only this happens to all the time.

ok, this is a half-ass feature. it 'kind of' works but doing my experiment (on call with someone when new call comes in) the power button does freaking NOTHING. it doesn't try to hang up either call.
it only works if you are on a call and someone else isn't trying to call in.
*sigh*

Maybe it was Cyanogen or just older Android but I could have sworn there was a "Hangup and Answer" option. I used to use this all the time when I was calling someone and their voicemail picked up but they called me right back before I could leave a message, I would just tap that option and it would end the current call and answer the new one.
I agree though, it's weird but thanks for the notification window tip. I totally forgot about that option

I tried the notification trick.. No love. You can't pull anything down while on a call unless maybe you're talking about a custom ROM.
Seems your phone is frozen when there is an incoming call. All you can do is answer text or ignore.

I'm missing that option. I recently bought a Sony XperiaZ and there was an option to "hang up and answer". I'm sure of it and was really appreciating it. But I didn't like the phone and just bought a Nexus 5. I'm on Cataclysm custom rom but I don't see anything like that to make our lives easier.
