Burned on Experia - XPERIA X1 General

Hi there.
Here I am and will write down my experiences with sonyericsson xperia x1.
My first windows mobile/pocket pc was an ipaq 3600 with pocket pc installed, i think it was around 2002 i bought it.
It was great but not good battery. After that i had an ericsson p1i and the experia x1. i had som great freeware installed on the ipaq and installed some of them on the experia.
For some weeks i had a freeware named cleartemp installed. It has worked good for some time, i bought my experia in october 2008, produced w32.
When i choosed clear all as i have done several times to clear explorer cache cleartemp deleted all files in experia, even the 4gb memory card.
How can this happen? A freeware deleting several excel-sheets, camera pictures and so on. I had some old backup for several months ago and there i was without my files.
I had to flash the experia doing a new installation, it worked for some weeks. I have had no problems with klaxon a wake up clock before, but now when i turn on power on experia the wake up call starts and rings for one minute, annoying. I uninstalled Klaxxon and then the uninstall deleted 3 of my standard-panels in experia. I called sonyericsson and they said that the panels were gone, no way to get them back, so i have to flash experia again.
What have we learned from this? Never use freeware....

wow...
it's a new thing to me.....never heard this before...
Thx for sharing it though

I think "never use freeware" is a bit of an exaggeration.
I always try to use freeware where it is possible. I have never had the problems or anything even remotely close to what you are describing. Though I did never use those programs, but a lot of other potentially malicious applications.
You may just have been unlucky.

K-Jam Anti-Virus (wtf were they thinking)

I don't understand why the wiz sometimes crawls to a halt, but I don't want to hard reset and have to set-up all the options again so I'm checking.
i dont see the point in it anyway considering there are next to no pda virus's and the AV software doesnt update its signitures so if anything DID come out that was malicious you wouldnt be protected.
odd
Well, I've gone ahead and restarted from scratch (hard reset) without the AV and some of the unneeded carrier settings.
I will report with my findings in 24 hours. I can't tell immediately because of the nature of the slow-downs on the Wizard, i.e. it works fine for hours and then starts freaking out.
For some reason , mine was never on my Jam from day one. It shows in the Extended ROM but never installed . When I installed manually it did instal . I think the reason why it stoped on install was because it aks to download the signitures from Imate ... and so stops the Instal
I removed the file foe av. hart reset. since then my k-kam uk model has run so smooth and fast that the speed on everything I do has improved. also installed pocket pc plus 3.0.1 and disabeled safe mode.'
compared to orignal slow refresh rate and speed. now it runs like it should.
thanks to the xda developers and contributers. . even skype now works faster and better.
well, I've been playing around with it for 3-4 hours now after removing the AV and I can NOT get it to slowdown to a crawl like it used to.
As hard as I find it to believe, it does seem like the antivirus (the geniuses at I-mate decided to include) is in fact what is causing the problems.
Sad thing is 99% of people who buy the device will never find out about this. Maybe i-mate will fix the problem though.
In any case, thanks for whoever figured it out! The way it's running now this is the best phone/pda I've ever owned.
is there an easy way to remove the anti-virus files from my KJam?
yes removed from extended rom and hard reset
regards

reboot problem - you probably have it and don't know it

I remember someone mentioning that the wizard (in my case the K-Jam) reboots sometimes.
I have had mine about 2 weeks, and have not noticed this...... until I enabled the phone SIM lock that is! I first noticed this when the phone was on whilst charging.
I know now when it is rebooting, as the SIM lock appears again. I am using the SD card, and I heard that had something to do with it.
I have the latest ROM from Imate, as it was the new batch that shipped.
Does anyone know what causes this or if there is a fix? how many others have found this?
Mine K-Jam has rebooted 3 times last 2 weeks. Once during a phonecall. Once while connected to my computer and one time while navigating.
I first thought it had something to do with my magnetic car holder. I have a small magnet on the back of my battery door and I thought that while driving the battery would have lost it's connection so I put some ducktape on it... But then it happened when connected to my pc and doing nothing :?:
I don't see a patern yet..
Wouter
No random reboots here - had a KJam since the first week in October with a 1GB miniSD card and SIMLock on since day 1.
KJam info:
ROM v1.1.9.3
ROM date 9/16/05
Radio version: 01.01.10
Protocol version: 4.0.13.16
ExtROM version: 1.1.9.104
Forgot to mention. I got my simlock on since the beginning (14-10-05)
Wouter
As said before, mine started rebooting after I installed SKYPE, once I removed SKYPE the problem went away.
I don't have Skype installed...
Wouter
I have had Skype installed since the off without issue. Currently running the latest Skype release, installed on the miniSD card.
I have the same problem ... it reboots very often, the funny thing is that it doesn't ask for pin when rebooting, it automatically logs on the GSM network...
I also often receive a message "unable to launch /Program Files/Skype/Skype.exe or so" ... I moved skype from SD to device but it didn't help ...
PS: I have a german Vodaphone VPA compat II (same hardware but different look) ... maybe it has something to do with a buggy ROM ? ...
Same here on my Qtek 9100.
I even missed out on a date waiting on a phonecall, did not know that my phone had secretly rebooted and was not loged into the network.
My dopod is rebooting since the very first day. I had installed verious ROMs > no difference. I can't find any reason for it. As someone mendioned already, it is very embarassing sometime since you don't know when the phone reboots and you are off line. I can tell you I would not buy this phone anymore. For me this shoiuld be a working tool and not a toy. My pda phone before (Blue Angel) had also some problems, but over all it was working much better then this piece of s....from Dopod. (Sorry my language). If you browse in this forum you must get the impression noone has evre tested these pda phone before drop them to the market. I just hope there are poeple in Taiwan at HTC and at Microsoft who read some of those forums, so we can hope to get some improvment the next future..
By the way this is the 3rd HW, the first two pieces where not working at all.
I also experience the same problems because of Skype. My
k-Jam came from Expansys with Skype on the extended ROM and of course SIM free. Skype couldn't even start on the pre-installed version. I unlocked the Extended ROM and threw out Skype and the AV (no more annoying prompts). Now the device seems to work fine, a bit slow though. I tried ti install the latest Skype version for slow CPU and experienced the same problems. High CPU works but hardly connects. I am still not sure how to have Skype runnung on my device as I travel a lot and can definetly use it with Wi Fi.
It seems skype has something to do with those reboot problems; but it's not the only one -- yesterday my 9100 was rebooting every few minutes (5-10); I then removed the miniSD as suggested above, it seems to have fixed the problem... need some more days to be sure. I'm gonna try to reformat my miniSD (which I formerly used on my SPV C500, some strange problems from time to time as well, but not so frequently) to check if it helps,
let's see !
gilsas
same here; spontaneous reboots. Did not use Skype when the first reboot occured.
Maybe it has to do with the programs intalled on the SD card?
I used to have those spontanious resets for a long time and I used to install a lot of programs on my mini sd card.
I haven't had any for a month now (and I had the latest light version of Skype installed) since I installed all programs in main memory. Of course not all programs. TomTom Navigator is on my storage card but I never leave it open when shutting my k-jam down.
Wouter
I get a few a week (maybe more that I don't notice) Uninstalled Skype from the beginning. Mine simply reboots and goes back to the today screen.
The treo 650 has a key combination that tells you what problems caused the soft reset, anything like that on the KJam (Wizard)
Well so much for my not having any spontanious soft resets anymore.
I just had another last night
I had a couple of programs open (Pocket Informant, Resco Explorer, TCPMP, MyPersonalDiet and Inbox). Maybe it was TCPMP because it plays files from the storage card... :?:
Wouter
After I've kept my QTEK 9100 on for 5-10 minutes (seems to be 7 or 10 minutes) without using it, it suddenly reboots, showing the ROM-version and all that (booting up).
My thoughts are that there's a problem with the automatic power off function (controlled by "power usage" in the Settings) that makes it reboot instead of just turning off the device but I havn't changed the automatic power off time limit enough to know if this really has something to do with it. Anyone else tried this?
EDIT:
I've now tried to change the automatic power off to 1 minute:
After one minute the QTEK power off, but after 5-10 minutes it reboot itself (turning itself on again). That means, from all that I understand, that it has nothing to do with the power off function.
I should probably mention that I have Skype 1.2.0.89 installed. What versions of Skype do you have? Anyone with Skype -installed- not experiencing the spontaneous reboots? I don't think you need to have Skype running to experience these problems - it seems to be enough that it's installed?
Anyone know if it has something to do with what ROM you're using?
QTEK 9100 (bought around 2006-01-10) with Swedish OS
ROM-version: 1.3.7.13 SVE
ROM-date: 9/29/05
Radio version: 01.04.10
Protocol version: 4.0.13.17
ExtROM-version: 1.3.7.125
I use a dopod 838 and I have the same problem as well. Strangely, this is not widely mentioned in this forum. I get one or two resets a day, and can be rather disturbing.
I do not have Skype installed, but have several games installed in the miniSD.
I'm currently using the Kjam rom, but I have had the same experience with the origianl DOPOD rom as well as the O2 rom.
I have Wisbar 2 (beta for WM5) installed, and had thought it to be the problem, but I got a reset even after it was removed.
I do not have SKYPE.
I have TCPMP installed, but rarely use it.
I'd really like to get to the bottom of this. Should I have this device turned in for warranty?
i found this problem alot when using the tweaks 2k2, when i moved the shared dll files to the storage card it keeps on restarting every two minutes or so. but that was the only situation that it reboots, other than that, never.
i have this rom:
rom: 1.1.9.3
date: 9/16/05
radio: 01.01.10
ext: 1.1.9.106
device: K-Jam
but once i redo the process, i never had a rebooting problem, that was 3 weeks ago.
Maybe if we compile a list of what we have running, we can find some common elements. I'm using the K-Jam
I have:
TCPMP - rarely use
MS Voice Command
SPB Pocket Plus
Pocket Weather
PocketZenPhone - currently disabled
PhoneAlarm (beta but the resets were happening before installation)
GSPocketMagic
Sunnysoft Backup Manager
MortRunner
StartUp Menu Contents:
bkpMgrDeleter (party of sunnysoft)
CapNotify (not sure of this)
GSPocketMagic
Init_Tray
poutlook
sddaemon (what is this)
Services
Voice Command

really really dodgey xda exec

Sorry if guys are tired of these threads about the dodgey operations of the xda exec, but mine really got to me tonight.
I only had 3 software installed on mine, pocket informant rev 3, spb diary, spb pocket plus. It was running ok with these 3 software, abit slower than i expected but ok. However i never thought it was totally stable, sometimes it would jus freeze, it would happen to me quite a few times a day, and as mentioned by some other users, it would take around 3 or 4 soft resets to get it back up. I have ordered a replacement from o2 and they said they going to send one but it might take a while as there is none in stock!
I thought id play around with this one for abit, try and get the most efficient set up going so i could do it on my new one. I read a post about Lakeridge WisBar advance and thought id give it a try. I installed and then it froze, i thought a soft reset would fix, but no, i must have tried to soft reset it over 15 times and the cloest i got to the today screen was the sim card pin screen which was half covered by the o2 boot screen so i couldnt even enter the pin. Then i thought o well going to have to do a hard reset, so i tried it and it didnt work, i did the hard reset and it froze at the o2 boot screen. I did it again and it did work. But how dodgy is this pda man!
Install it in Corporate mode and just install needed cabs only, especially the one with connection. Use if for a few days to see if the problems persist, the crap 02 interface may well be one of the main problems.
Mine works fine, this is a great device but also need a lot of tweaks to work well, if you want a good "out of the box" experience then this isn't the kind of phone for you.
BTW, don't install Pocket Plus, it will slow down your Exec as hell.
As above but consider not using the Spb software.
It caused all sorts of memory leaks/crashing on mine over the course of about 3 days of testing.
In addition it also rather annoyingly consistently failed to work right when the phone was resumed after a long delay ie over night.
My dopod 900 running perfectly well and fast even with 5 programs on the background. Guess the way WM5.0 handle the memory usage is different than previous OS did.
Spb pocket plus really slow down my machine, now i'm using my without any task closing utility at all and it runs smoothly.
h,im using dopod 900 for only less then a week.i really find this dopod 900 are much more stable than all xda PDA.
i tot its gonna be the same like xda which always hang or Jam,amazing it work so well.
Dopod900 definitely run way stable compare to Exec or I-mate. I didn't quite face the same problem they mentioned here. Guess O2 and I-mate has mess up their rom after the customization. The other reason could be that Dopod is directly link to HTC so they have the access to the deepest on the programming on this machine.
yep... SPB Pocket Plus causes crashes... :x
Just tried to install the SPB pocket plus 3 on my xda Exec, and after quite a few failed installation attempts -- I should have stopped there -- where for the first time in over a month (when attempting to instasll new s/w) the installation consistently failed. I took a break and decided to have one last go.
This time it did work. During the installation it warned me about installing it on the Storage card: that the card driver has to be initialysed prior to activation of the prog.
The installation finished.
Well after that I tried to open the prog... it didn't work, and the device wasn't responding.
My next step was a soft reset, but it halted in mid-process.
There followed a few attempts again of soft reseting the device - but it kept halting at the same stage...
So for the first time - after testing my device for over a month with many programs - I needed to do a Hard reset :!: :x
This is really annoying! I have read before that SPB is slightly problematic and slows the device down... to put it mildly - I am NOT impressed :!: :!: :!:
I saw on another thread about Pocket Hack Master for overclocking the Universal. You might want to give it a try.
I also tried SPB Pocket plus, but was dismayed by how slow it made my EXEC. I deleted it off in less than a minute.
jus recieved my new xda exec from o2 this morning. Installed corporate settings and keeping all 3rd party apps off for the mo and see how it runs. Will keep you guys posted.

TOMTOM, MagicButton and QTek

Hi all,
I have a QTek S100 and installed TomTom 5.21 (with a GlobalSaT BT 338) recently. "Everything" goes well untill I get the GPS signal. 2 seconds later the screen freezes to close TomTom 4 seconds afterwards.
What may be causing this? Is it because I had "MagicButton" installed and when I uninstalled it and did soft reset it somehow is kept in memory? How can I know this?
Help me please!!!
Thanks
DoubleW
If MagicButton is still present there's something like mbutton.lnk in the \windows\startup folder, if not then it's not running. Memmaid should show it as a running process too.
I personally like MagicButton, though de-installed cause I belief it was responsible for seriously slowing down my magician. Now I kill everything manual again. Maybe I'll try sbp pocket plus once more.
Regards, M
oltp: have you considered or tried VJOkButt?
It's a tiny thing for closing programs.
V
Thanks VJ. The file you mention is not there, and there is nothing in running programs, so I guess the cause for TomTom to close when bluetooth GPS signal is received is other.
DoubleW
DoubleW: have you checked your GPS signal? I haven't used tom tom for years, but ensure it's not that that's causing the problem. test it in another program or a GPS signal test program or something.
If Magic Button is open you should see the program in the normal way, it's not a messy program that leaves a lot of hidden files etc, so basically if it's not in \windows\start up it's unlikely to be Magic Button.
Are you running any other apps at the same time?
V
Hi VJ,
Nop. Nothing is running. Unless it´s the phone that is doing something to close TomTom (and bluetooth also disconnects).

V,
pls, pls explain to me what I did to deserve such a treatment? Seems like you're hunting me with good advises these days. First about 'one pass', now you're 'VJOkButt'.
Thanks mate I'll give it a try. I just love these tiny handy programs.
@DoubleW,
Sometimes TomTom crashes when it's not able to access a map. Don't know it can't access it, cause a restart of TomTom or a soft-reset fixes the problem. Somehow you've got something different & more difficult to solve.
M
Use the man's search option or directly http://www.vijay555.com/vj/Releases/VJOkButt/VJOKButt.cab
GKill - where have you been my old friend? VJOkButt is old news now, I'm moving on to my next three releases very shortly
VJOkButt. Please read to the end of the thread (or start at the end?) and use version 0.5.
DoubleW: obviously try putting it into flight mode to verify the phone problem, but first ensure that your serial connection to the GPS receiver is sound and secure, to isolate if it's a hardware issue or software conflict.
oltp: I picked up my Magician around August last year. I thought, this needs a few tweaks. I started learning to program. And I just keep on looking and tweaking! So, if it helps me, and can help you, why not!? I like making programs other people find useful. I've spent years making little programs, there's almost nothing in my life that I haven't somehow "tweaked" (not always successfully!). So you benefit from my annoyances with the Phones! I hope Post in the VJOkButt thread if it works ok for you, and any ideas how to improve it.

Memory Leak + ****ty Battery life + Lockups = Getting tired!

I don't know.. ever since I got my brand new O2 Exec I've been getting less and less productive in work. The machine is indeed cool, but only when it works. I'm early adapter but it's been for the past month or so that I'm working for the machine instead of the machine working for me.
Memory leaks are out of this world. Memory is not freed up many times and I end up easily with 3mb of free ram even if no program is on. The battery life is terrible (to say the least) compared to my good old PDA2K (even with it's over 1yrs old battery! it blasts the Exec memory miles away)
Lately, the amount of lockups I am getting is simply unbearable. machine freezes.. sometimes the left soft button's caption (i.e "phone") graphics is seen like a small white box or something(as if all the letter go over each other) and then machine freezes. Something an alert comes up and then machine freezes. I can't trust the machine for business use, for games yes, but not for business.
Please note I don't have many programs running at all, no wisbar or cosmetic stuff like that., no SPB Plus and stuff like that. Just PocketInformant, PocketBreeze, phoneAlarm all of which are must have for me as well as some utils i relay on. I am wondering maybe my ROM is outdated, but I didn't see an update from O2 yet (I don't want to install NO_ID tool and flush other roms than OS own due to warrenty issues)
I have OS2 Exec with following ver:
ROM version: 1.13.82 WWE
ROM date: 11/30/05
Radio version: 1.04.02
Protocol version: 42.37.P8
ExtROM version: 1.13.188 WWE
Is there any Official update from O2 to any of these ?
Help is very much appreciated. That's before a 10kg hammer is blaster over the machine in an act of anger.. lol
MOBILER
Here are my suggestions:
1st Upgrade to the latest I-Mate Jasjar ROM. It is definitely faster than the shipped ROM from O2 and highly stable.
ROM version: 1.30.76 WWE
ROM date: 02/20/06
Radio version: 1.09.00
Protocol version: 42.42.P8
ExtROM version: Delete and install only what you need.
2nd I use Oxios Memory which has 2 useful applications in it. Oxios Close apps and Oxios Hibernate. I learned about this here in one of the forums. It basically free up a substantial amount of unused memory. Here is a link: http://www.oxios.com/memory/
As far as battery is concerned. I don't have a problem with mine. I keep it plugged in every night to charge playing a lecture DVD while I sleep.
So far O2 has not released an update yet. The last official ROM they released, I believe you are already using it. Let us hope when they do release something it would have the complete Windows Mobile Update support for BT headsets and Push email.

Thanks man, I highly appreciate your detailed helpful response, but two issues :
1) As I said, I do not want to install the i-mate JJ ROM over the O2 one due to warrenty issues. So I think I would prefer to wait for the official O2 release thought I am starting to loose patience..
2) I also use the MagicButton app on my Exec. It seems very efficient at closing programs and switching tasks with minimal memory footprint. I'll look into the program you mentioned, but I doubt that's the problem. My machine has memory leaks because even when programs are all closed after several hours of use I can get down to 3mb free RAM.

Do you use the brilliant SBSH Ilauncher as this has very bad memory leaks being looked into at the moment
@mobiler,
we must have twins! I have mentioned similar problems with my Exec to those you discovered and when I reported them here people were unhappy and accused me of not knowing how to use a Exec properly!
You may want to look at the following:
1. Powersave does reduce battery drain but you may a slight delay to being alterted to incoming calls
2. Reformat your SD card if you use data files (eg music, ebooks etc) a lot. I found that MS Reader and Windows Media player were not happy with the use of Powersave - often I would get a systems crash after restarting the device. But after a reformat of the SD card the device was much more stable
3. You can get good quality spare batteries now for the Universal from www.mobilefun.co.uk
I had a few issues with PhoneAlarm, nice piece of software does exactly what I wanted as well, apart from I had some compatability issues.
Slowed the phone down alot and if my memory serves me correctly ( I have a few too many memory leaks of my own going on ) made the phone freeze a couple of times.
Tried the trial version of Pocket Informant ( had it as standard on an IPAQ HX4700 and quite liked it ) but that caused me a few problems.
I now keep things simple, using PocketZenPhone for switching profiles ( very nice and simple solution ). Use the O2 web site to keep track of number of txts sent and phone call allowance.
SPBGPRS monitor for the obvious monitoring of GPRS usage.
Using the standard contacts and calender ( does me ok but not as flexible )
And I have just started messing about with Wisbar, No problems as off yet.
Personally I have found all problems with the phone are linked to software incompatabilities.
I am still in warrenty with O2 but have updated to the latest ROM and radio and if for any reason it has to go back I will try and flash back but my way of thinking is that I should be allowed to change to any ROM image I want in the same way as load any software I want.
Dont know if that is of any help at all, just my views on trying the same software. Regardless of how good they are, they caused problems for me so now I dont use them and everything seems to be running ok.
I know this is anachistic but I am also annoyed by the occasional reboot and have discovered (shock horror) that having as few TSRs running (i.e. none) as possible much reduces this. I used to run magic button and I am convinced that this caused the occasional lockup. These days I only have vbar (2.2) installed and run it at times of need (i.e. I don't run it all the time) as well as using the memory item in the settings to kill programs.
Running the virgin corporate install o2 ROM with no TSRs. Using PIE and Netfront, and the built in outlook, together with a number of games, has meant that my xda is quite reliable. I am hoping that my 'once every 2-3 days reboot' will be gone once the new xda rom comes out
I can also recommend memmaid to occasionally clear our broken registry settings.
WM5 has been a painfull experience for the PDA manufacturers. If you think we are having a bad time you should read the stuff about the dell axim x50 upgrade on aximsite. I am hoping that WM5.1 will be a free install for universal users as this will make the os more robust.
On an optimistic note the chipset employed by the universal is well used and very reliable in many applications, the construction is robust, so IMHO it all comes down to software/firmware which we hope will improve.
I suppose that is what I was getting at.
Keep it simple.
Whether it is a stability problem with WM5 or just the third party software solutions I dont know.
But when I keep it simple, it works and works well.
I never mentioned battery life earlier, this weekend I went away with a full charge, granted I took another smaller phone with me but I did use it quite heavily ( playing Bejewelled, surfing the net and sending MMS ) and it was always on .
This morning it was on about 40% charged. Not too bad I thought compared to previous Windows Mobile phones I have had.
I use memmaid as well to do a bit of house keeping.
I was using spbPocketPlus mainly for its Task Handling, but thought I would give WisBar a shot. Having a proper close option to hand is very handy and should be included as a standard option in any version of Windows Mobile.
If I am not using a program I want it to be shut down properly. Like using a PC I only have the programs running that I am using.
FWIW, I am new to this device, but not to PPC, so I am familiar with minimize/close distinction. My orange SPV M5000 loses about .3MB per program invocation. I shut down programs using either the program's own Exit function (where it exists) or the Memory tab in the settings area. But the memory is slowly eroded. The worst culprit is Activesync to my laptop, that consumes around 5MB that never comes back. After a soft reset there is about 23MB free, this quickly drops to around 18, then steadily drops. Something in the OS is not releasing memory. I have to soft reset to get the memory back (which takes about 3 minutes).
I suppose that is what I was getting at.
Keep it simple.

Have you tried using the Exec in Corporate mode? It works fine for me
@ChristopherTD, I setup a dummy Activesync server and then set Activesync to manual and I have found this make my Exec more stable - perhaps it is because it does not lose as much RAM as before.
It is surprising that after 6/9 months of WM5 availability that we are still having instability problems with major/popular WM5 apps. I only use GSPMagic, Agenda Fusion, MS Reader and Opera. Only GSPMagic and AgendaFusion have been trouble-free.
WM5 was intended for programs to keep running. I know we like to hack our machines to death + sometimes the memory gets too full and you have to kill stuff. But sometimes if you keep MS stuff running, and don't kill it all the time with something like magic button, you find the system runs better.
I have activesync, contacts, outlook and PIE open all the time. I used to kill activesync all the time and I think this caused problems.
Normally my games have proper exit buttons, together with pRSSReader (totally excellent program). For the MS built in programs I tend to leave them running as the OS was designed for this.
Wow I think its pretty clear I ended up with a good unit afterall, either that or o2 really really messed up with your ROMS.
I have to charge my battery every night but thats to be expected with the usage I have. And im running Wisbar Lite, PhoneAlarm, PocketBreeze, and Wisbar Advance Desktop, all no worries, the only time I notice a distinct loss of memory is after player Warring Nations.
I feel for you guys, I think your summing it up that your working on your device as opposed to it working for you says it all.
Thanks for all the responses. You're all great guys!

Do you use the brilliant SBSH Ilauncher as this has very bad memory leaks being looked into at the moment

Thanks, but no. I don't use SBSH Ilauncher. I use MagicButton which has a minimum memory footprint

@mobiler,
we must have twins!

Thanks, I felt I was the only one having problems Anyway:
1) I am always in powersave, still loosing battery power.
2) I just purchased a new SD card yesterday because I thought that may have caused the problems, but it's not it.. same problems.
3) I'll look into spare batteries, thanks for the link

I had a few issues with PhoneAlarm, nice piece of software does exactly what I wanted as well, apart from I had some compatability issues.
Slowed the phone down alot and if my memory serves me correctly ( I have a few too many memory leaks of my own going on ) made the phone freeze a couple of times.
Tried the trial version of Pocket Informant ( had it as standard on an IPAQ HX4700 and quite liked it ) but that caused me a few problems.

I appreciate the reply.
1) I've purchased and used phoneAlarm for about a year straight with my PDA2K and it never failed me any problems. I consider it a must have, and since it ran quite smoothly on my PDA2k I don't see why it should cause the Exec these issues. Further, I did remove it and still exeprienced the same issues, so that's not the problem either.
2) I've used PocketInfromant for 1.5 years now and no problem on my old PDA2K.

Thanks for the reply, I've been using MagicButton for almost as long as I can remember and it never failed me. It worked superb on my PDA2K. Further, I tried removing it for a few days to check how things would work without it. Same lockups, same memory leaks, same mediocre performance, unfortunately (or fortunately) this isn't the problem either.

Have you tried using the Exec in Corporate mode? It works fine for me

Sure I actually never ran my Exec in any other mode than the Corporate mode, so I never even experienced the other modes.

Pitty, that's not the issue with my machine as I already did that trick 2 weeks ago.
I just ran memaid to see what running processes do I have and I see to be having the following ones. Note that I have no running programs in the background and no today plugins enabled whasoever, just VoiceCommand I guess is working in the background but that's it. It seems to me that the WM5 core doesn't freeup memory.
Here's what memaid reports
gwes.exe 5.26MB
device.exe 2.83MB
filesys.exe 2.41MB
cprog.exe 2.29MB
VoiceCmd.exe 1.81MB
shell32.exe 1.51MB
(smaller processes below
tmail.exe 275.57KB
services.exe 159.81KB
connmgr.exe 115.81KB
MemMaid.exe 27.90KB
psShutXP.exe 11.90KB
srvtrust.exe 7.90KB
Nk.exe 0 bytes
the most memory you can clear is about 26-29mbytes. The rest of the running processes need to be there. There is a good thread somewhere on what each process does, will post it if I come across it again.
29mb is disappointing considering there is 64mbyte memory, but thats the way WM5 works.
rgds
I've got a O2 XDA ii (himalaya) and im running wm2005 2.01.64
After a soft reset I have 31.x MB or RAM left, even if I dont run a single program or make a single phone call within say 6hours my RAM is at 21-24MB. This has nothing to do with not correctly closing programs but either a wm2005 leak or in my case a lot of the problem is being pointed at SBSH Ilauncher.
Well here is a comparison just done a soft reset started memaid and my results are in brackets after yours for the ones in common running :-
gwes.exe 5.26MB ( 4.6 MB )
device.exe 2.83MB ( 1.46 MB )
filesys.exe 2.41MB (1.82 MB )
cprog.exe 2.29MB ( 1.46 MB )
VoiceCmd.exe 1.81MB
shell32.exe 1.51MB ( 1.21 MB )
(smaller processes below
tmail.exe 275.57KB
services.exe 159.81KB ( 315.76 kb )
connmgr.exe 115.81KB ( 115.81 kb )
MemMaid.exe 27.90KB (23.0 kb )
psShutXP.exe 11.90KB
srvtrust.exe 7.90KB (7.9 kb )
Nk.exe 0 bytes ( 0kb )
also I have :-
Wisbaradv2.exe 787.71 kb
sddaemon.exe 67.9 kb
Pimhelper.exe 11.9 kb
Poutlook,exe 3.9 kb
( i have Wisbar, SPBdiary and pocketzenphone open )
going to have a look later tonight to see if anything changes.
ROM Ver. 1.30.76
Radio 1.09.00
ExtRom ver 1.30.164
I had similar problems when I first bought my O2 exec (on Ebay).
I downloaded the latest update from O2 website and re-flash the phone. I used Corporate install. So far it has been solid and I am even using the phone with Goodlink without a problem.
About the same time I bought the phone, I bought a 2G SD card (sandisk) , when I got the card I insalled a few software on this card (TCMP and Total Commander). Everytime I ran those applications, I can see that the phone crawls like a snail and worse it hangs. It even take a long time for me to transfer files from my laptop to the SD card even when I used a SD Card reader.
I replaced the SD card with a 2G MMC+ (Kingston) and I install the same apps. My phone is working as it should be, I can say that I didnt experience any hanging at all and it was never slow as well. I can even upload a ripped DVD movie on the phone faster compared to when I used the SD card. Right now I have one full season of Alias in my MMC+ card.
I have the phone setup to turnoff after a period of time (3 minutes) when there is no activity as opposed to others that they wanted to have the settings uncheck Start>Settings>Power. I also make sure that the backlight is set to a minimun when on battery and I uncheck the part where the phone will not recieve all incoming beam.
So far, my phone has been stable and battery lasts for 3 days.
From personal experience I found wisbar caused issues with the phone not ringing on an incoming call. It would ring for the first call after a soft reset and then stop for any further calls...
The other major issue which could cause delays and slowness is installing to the sd card any apps which ought to be installed to ram. ie: today plugins etc.
