SIM CARD Missing
Hello

I seem to have solved my missing SIM card problem. As many others have reported, the phone worked fine for at least a couple of hours and then it would just suddenly give this error.
I took my XDA EXEC apart and couldn't find anything really wrong, except the screw fixing the conducting tape over the SD rubber (top photo on page 17 in the service guide). This screw was a bit lose. I did also lift the metal lid over the baseband processor (MSM6250) for a quick peek but couldn't see anything obviously wrong. Then assembled everything again switched on to check that it's at least still working as before. That was a week ago and still no more SIM missing errors.

I just got back from Dubai this morning, and I recieved my first call from the plane. Fine, it worked.... but then...
disaster struck!
The phone has the "no signal" message when I click on the reception icon. I've tried to click the "turn phone off" button but nothing works...
I can't get into the phone settings in the start menu to change networks...
I'm trying to back-up to SD to do a hard reset, but the phone re-boots itself every 4 minutes! The device is also very slow in responding to the commands. E.G. when I place my phone code it takes 3 seconds just to type in the number... strange! I have 48 / 64 MB free in memory and a 256 MB SD card...
I can't connect to activesync because the decive is not being recognized. So I can't transfer anything through the USB... it's gotta be some kind of manual un-locking from the phone itself...
I took out the sim card and am using a crappy nokia until I get this deal fixed.
I searched the forum for possible solutions and some came close, but none popped the cherry...
Have any of you experienced this specific situation? Is there anything I can do to recover my data before hard-reseting the Qtek? I made about 30 new contacts on the recent trip and was going to sync when I got home from the airport... but the 1010 keeps passing out on me!! It's like giving a date a full bottle of Crystal Champange before hitting the bedroom... Sucks!
All my appoinments are on the phone for tomorrow.. it's 2:11AM if anyone can get back soon with instructions or any previous posting, please let me know.. E-mail me... SOMEBODY SAVE MY SOUL!!
HELP!
sorry to hear about ur problem, must be awful
I dunno if any one can save ur soul, but if worst comes to worst, Ill buy ur soul off of u, just gimmie a good price
thanx, an good luck
Does the phone reboot even if plugged into the power? Also have you tried a soft reset with the sd card removed?
try also to remove the SIM or try another one. some of them are faulty.
I had a similar but less traumactic problem in the phone part wouldn't work at all. Turned out that error messages can be saved on the sim card and block functions. Removing and re inserting the sim is enough to clear the block in my case.
Good luck.

Can anyone explains to me what this connector is for ?
(below green arrow)
I got a new battery from ebay ( Cameron Sino Tecnology).
This baterry don't have any metal surronding, like my old original battery
I star to have SIM problems (invalid or missing sim,) after install the new battery.
Then I realize that in the back of universal there is a connector that if pushed the sim stop's working. I Put some paper to avoid the battery to push this connector and no more sim card problems...
Can anyone explains to me what this conector is for ?

Can you describe in more detail what the problem was?
Were you able to use the Uni for an hour or so and then receive the "invalid or missing sim" error or did your device not recognize the sim with the ebay battery at all?
Because I've been having this issue on one of my Unis where it'll work for an hour or so and give me that same error message (invalid or missing sim) the only fix for this is to reset the device, but then the error shows up again.
I know there have been a few people on this forum with the same issue and perhaps you have solved the problem, unless your issue is different from mine. So if you could please confirm the above!

I was random a litle bit random... Some times It recognizes the sim card but If I try to connect to Internet using 3G , It fails after some time of surfing the net...
But I think the random behavior was before I donwgrade to Original Shiped ROM ( ROM+Radio+ExtROM) of Imate Jasjar with Radio version 1.09
I try this way because I want a new fresh start...
Now I upgrade to version 6.1 but still using Radio 1.09. ( rom is pdaviet uni_20273).

I had to find a way that the battery is not pressing the spring.
I put a piece of paper that I took form cigar box and folded thow times to give it volume....
You can start trying maintain the baterry conected to HTC without pressing the spring , and do a few resets... Never closed the batery compartment.

yes is a spring I called a connector but is as spring ( sorry for my bad english)
I think that maybe when the spring is pressed the HTC uses the metal of the batery as an antena amplifier and disconect internal antena ??? maybe ?
thanks Paulorosa I will give it a go and report back, hopefully we can have a permenant fix to this ongoing problem.
I dropped my phone from a low distance and now on the bootup screen it shows a message saying no GSM. The ROM version is 1.34.502.1 but on the radio version tab there is no number or anything. On protocol version there is also no number or letters. Also there is nothing for the IMEI. I cannot open up the program (phone) or text anyone. I have tried a hard reset and some soft resets but those did not work. My sound quit working too.......
Also if this helps, i have WM5
OS 5.1.195(build 14955.2.3.0)
Wifi - works
Bluetooth - works
All other Programs (besides phone) - works
All i want to know is if i can fix GSM and if i can then sound and my broken LCD are very small problems.
Thanks

Before assuming something very major, let's be sure all the routine things have been tried:
1
Hard reset - you've tried that, but it's worth trying again, but first try number 2 below
2
Remove the battery from the phone for 30 minutes or so and reboot after doing number 3 below:
3
Remove the SIM card, clean the contacts. Insert and re-insert it several times. This cleans the contats on both the card and the phone.
As you say the sound is likely just a loose connector and the LCD, just a case of getting the correct make (there are at least 3 non interchangeable brands)

I'm afraid your phone still did receive hardware damage Looks like the radio chip soldering is the least reliable (on certain models?) and can be easily broken, thus so many people have the dreaded "No GSM" problem and are unable to flash a new radio.
I think it's just your SIM-Card, which has loosen due to the drop.
I dropped my Phone so many times, i stopped counting. It now looks horrible scarred but it works like the first day i bought it.

In that case, the phone would just display a "No SIM card" notification. But since ZZsk8erZZ's Hermes displays "No GSM" at boot time, I'm afraid the problem is more serious than that. At any rate, it wouldn't do any harm if ZZsk8erZZ checks how securely is his SIM card inserted into the slot.
I added a few pieces of paper to the sim to push it against contacts but that didnt work. Ill try to reflash radio and if not then... i will have to go with my razr. How i wish i could use my 8525. Thanks anyways.
You can do a few things to get it back. First you have to open the case - a task that should take a few minutes with the right tools - the instructions are posted here and everywhere. Once open - RESEAT EVERY CONNECTOR and put it back together. If it doesn't work (ie still NO GSM) the motherboard is damaged and no amount of flashing will bring it back. These things are VERY sensitive and although they were made for road warriors they weren't built for them. The boards are multilayered and the connectors aren't (except for the dpad) screwed down. The flexiribbon cable is also a very weak design and cracks over time when you slide the keyboard in and out.
If the board is damaged you can do a few things - if the case and screen/keyboards are in great shape - buy a totally cosmetically trashed unit and put in the motherboard into your phone - otherwise strip it for parts and sell them on ebay - there is a market for dpads if working, flex cables and other small bits including the rear antenna plug - even small case bits will fetch some cash. Add it up and go shopping for a decent 8525. Supplies seem to be dwindling and prices are still pretty high though for unblemished fully working units. Just ask the sellers ALOT of questions before jumping in. They may say the unit freezes sometimes or there are a few working defects in these I'd walk away.
I got stuck with a TYTN HERMES 200 where the seller said everything was fine but it would freeze sometimes. Got the phone - was pristine but had the NO GSM error sometimes then fully died in a matter of days. Fortunately snapped it up for only 45. Bought a working HERMES 100 AT&T for 40 locally which worked perfectly except the seller messed up the LCD.
NoGsm Herm200
Hi!
I do have also a broken Herm200. I have droped it from the table, and since then I have NoGsm error when booting. I have tried several rom flashing but every time it stops on 12% flashing. Even when I did it with microSD was the same.
IPL - OK
SPLASH 1 - OK
SPASH 2 - OK
EXTROM - OK
GSM - when gets here the flashing stops.
OS -
Before that I had tryed several hard resets, soft resets, different key combination, and many, many ways...but still NoGsm is present.
I am now seeking for a motherboard.
If you know anyone...
Thank you
pleas!!
hello

Help Please!!
I have read for hours hours on this forum and can't find a solution PLEASE HELP ME. I love my new wizard and want it to work right.
It sounds like you have an unlocked G3 (or else you wouldn't have WM6.1).
Before I flashed it, though, I would recommend just opening the battery, removing the back cover (it's not too hard), and checking the antenna connections to make sure they're still contacting the foil antenna on the inside of the back cover. Shut the phone completely off (press and hold power button). Open, and lift the foil carefully with a hobby knife and flatten it a bit, before laying it back down. Verify the two spring-loaded contacts are able to compress and extend fully without any coaxing from you. If they stick, flex them a few times to see if you can loosen them up. If they still stick, you could try using Isopropyl Alcohol to clean them, but you must wait until it is completely dry before reassembly. Reassemble and power up.
If it still doesn't pick up a signal, you might consider flashing GSM to either 2.19 or 2.69. Most Wizard owners end up on one or the other. A few find success with other versions, but they are exceptions.

I tried you solution but same problem . I've tried flashing a new radio but i have vista and the rom updater just crashes, i've read and tried a lot of the fixes the forum has told me to with no luck.
This may not be that helpful, but make sure that the SIM card is completely inserted. At first I didn't realize that it had to slide under the small metal things, so mine didn't work. =P
that was the first thing i tried. i even tried someone else sim cause i thoght it might of been my sim card nope not it.
I would recommend you flash the original ROM back into your phone and see if you get any signal that way.
Have you tried a hard reset? If your hardware checks out, then this might work. Also, did you or any previous owner ever have failed unlock attempts?
Hi all,
Just got home, looked at my mobile and it said there was no signal - so I turned it off and back on again, then it said there was no SIM inserted. Keep restarting the phone, keeps saying the same thing. Why?!
Am going to try it in my old SE K850i to see if it's the SIM card or the phone at fault.
In the mean time, does anyone else know of this fault and how to fix..?
I didn't the drop the phone or anything, it was just in my pocket, on it's own - like it always is!
Cheers
Tried it in my K850, works fine. Please someone help
yeah i usually dont put the sim card all the way in but slightly in and it works
I've re-opened this thread due to me misreading....DOH! Apologies (Mental note to one self.......follow own advice and read before posting).

you could try to clean the contacts on the sim card connector of the phone with a q-tip, and see if that solves the problem.
also check if any of those contacts appears to be bent or something, and so doesn't make a connection with the card.
Everytime I open the back up to remove the SD card, I get the SIM card missing bit even though I have not touched it! My HD is only 3 months old and it has done this from the start. I just have to remove it a bit - shove it back in and the phone accepts it is there. Annoying but not enough for me to send it back.
hmm, maybe try to make the sim a bit thicker so it doesnt move around (it shouldn't move by removing the back cover, but it seems to happen on your phone / sim combination.
try putting a thin piece of paper on top of the sim (not the contacts side, but the side facing to the battery cover)
maybe that prevents this problem?
Missing simcard
I have the same problem with my simcard. Though something strange happens when the phone is off for more then 10min, it works fine and notices there is a simcard for like 30 sec after which the error pops-up again. I have tried all of the above things, my simcard works fine in my other phone, adding some paper to thicken it doesn't work either
Anyone who could help me with this?
P.S. sorry for the bad english
As in post 7# written, put some papersheet in the simholder above your simcard to increase the contactpreasure. This surely helps.
Tis trick is also useful for all dualsim users who thik the dualsimadapter does not work in their device (but after using this trick get astonished!)
for Thysiey:
Try to switch to Gsm mode to test . Maybe you have bad umts signal? Happens at other places too, or only at one place?
Got the same issue here...
I cannot move the SIM because it is being hold in place by the battery. (to little room)
Adding a piece did not work either.
Anyone got another solution?
anyone? My mothers HD just got this problem now. She has a new phone and for the contract renewal she had to read the backside of the sim. The phone all of a sudden didn't recognizes the simcard anymore.. I tried a few other simcards but it won't read it anymore.
My plan was to sell the old phone but now it's almost worthless just a shame it is still a great phone to operate.. handy with the navigation and all
