New to HTC Touch HD - Touch HD General

Just got my HTC Touch HD today and really impressed with it and it's not as big as i thought
So i've been playing with it to get to know the menu, functions, etc and just wondering how to set pin code when i turn on the phone?
Great forum and been looking at the threads for couple of days now
Thanks a lot

Phone pin
Just go to PHONE/MENU/OPTIONS and the select the PIN tab on the bottom.
Good luck.

Yeah tried that and after i put pin, there's no OK button or anything?
ALso what's the advantage of flashing with new ROM, will it remove my provider splash screen?

A new ROM does much more than just change the splashscreen. It is basically the same thing as installing a new OS on your desktop computer, or rather a different version of it. New ROMs solve bugs, glitches, add new functionality, can change the appearance.
I would recommend to you to try out your Touch HD for at least a week, find out what you dislike about it, write it down if you'd like and then hit the local ROM forum, open the most popular topics (that would be Davideuck's, Laurentius' and Dutty's) and check their features. If a particular ROM appeals to you, read the instructions on how to flash it and try it out - but backup beforehand, as you will lose all your data!

The OK button should be on the top/right corner.

Thanks all for your help.
Still charging just now. How long do i need to charge it for (just out of the box) as it's been 4.5 hours now
Was looking at Unsigned_HardSPL_for_Blackstone_OliNex which i believe need to flash it with this before flash with any ROMs? Also was looking at CustomRUU for Blackstone as well as Dutty's HD XTREME. Still no idea what they are tho
Is it similar to jailbreak for ipod which allow us to add apps, etc?

Also, i have old sim card on network A and wanting to transfer all the contacts (phone no) to my new phone which on network B, is the only way to do it is to unlock the phone and insert sim card network A to the phone?
Thanks

You can synchronize the contacts from your old phone to your computer and synchronize your contacts to your new phone afterwards.
I did the same yesterday.

Well, what you could try, is syncing through Outlook or something like that. Use an old phone with your old SIM to sync your SIM contacts with the program, then connect your Touch HD and sync contacts again.
And now for the terminology.
Flashing: Saving data on the internal memory.
SPL: You need to flash one of these first to be able to flash a new ROM.
HardSPL: You only need to flash this once and then you can flash as many ROMs as you'd like.
USPL: Basically the same as HardSPL, but you have to flash it every single time before you flash a new ROM. It, however, doesn't void your warranty.
ROM: The "OS" of your phone. There are many different authors, or "cooks", who make their own ROMs. (i.e. Davideuck, Laurentius26, Dutty, kwbr and many others.) This is the part that really matters.
Radio: Another thing you can flash. This time, it changes the behaviour of your GSM module, WiFi, 3G and GPS. Basically anything that is used to communicate wirelessly. A newer version is not necessarily better.

Wow thanks a lot for that
I don't have any cable that come with my old phone, will bluetooth works?
So HSPL probably better then and will it void warranty? Can i revert it back to original ROM in the future?

Have to do it 1 by 1 with bluetooth

Well, I've heard you can flash your original SPL later and nobody will know a thing (same goes for the ROM), but that's only when you don't have your phone "bricked" (that means your phone has to work for you to be able to flash the SPL/ROM). I've never looked for it, so I don't really know.

No idea, sorry.

Transferred now.
What i did, i put the new sim card to the old phone, copied all the contacts to the new sim card and then put the new sim card back to the new phone and copied to the contact in the new phone
When i open contact on the new phone, why showing both name from the contact phone and sim card? I couldn't find a way to choose just the one from contact?

http://www.mobilehtc.net/index.php?ind=downloads&op=download_file&ide=9&file=INGHideSIMV2.1.rar
Install this to hide SIM contacts.

Thanks
So do i need to do HSPL before i can install this kind of mods/apps?

No, HSPL is only needed for flashing unofficial ROMs. Applications and programs are alright.

How to install this?
Also do i need to reinstall after doing HSPL/USPL?

HardSPL
There, all the information you'll need.

I installed HD Tweak at the end and it's great.
Will do HSPL or maybe USPL later still don't know which one tho

ROM upgrade help

I wanted to install one of the ROMs from www.yorch.net. But before doing so I have some questions:
1. If I choose to build ROM as an installer.exe, is installing it to my device as simple as running the .exe file? (of course with the device connected thru Activesync)
2. Is my present ROM (see specs below) supported?
3. If Murphy comes to visit and I screw up, will my phone be completely unusable or can I just reinstall old ROM, do hard reset and everything will be back to how it was?
My specs:
OS: Pocket PC ver 3.0.12039
ROM:3.20.06 ENG( 07/30/03) (O2 Asia I think since I bought it here in the Philippines)
Radio: 4.21.00.
Thanks
1 as far as i know yes havent don it to my own device yet though
2 a rom dont have to support a rom since it'll overwrite it
3 of cause merphy can also show his ugly face
but if all fails a sd flash reader writer can save many a tears
also if your phone is working ok then i would not mess with the
radio stack and beware because some roms include the radio stack
and if you try to update your radio stack to a US (900/1900) and you network is 900/1800 you could be in for a world of pain
ROM upgrade step by step
OK I'm really dying to give it a go but I'm just a overly cautious bloke. So I'm gonna outline what I interpreted (after reading lots of posts I think I'm getting it but not sure) to be the way do the upgrade. Please correct me if i'm wrong:
Equipment I have:
1. My notebook (Windows XP, Activesynch 3.7)
2. O2 XDAI
3. Cradle and USB connection.
Steps that I think I should take:
1. Place XDA on cradle and make sure it's connected with PC.
2. Backup?? (not so sure what to back up since contacts, calendar, notes are synched with outlook, docs are also synched, I have copies of cab and program files since I download them to PC before installing them to XDA.) If i'm missing something please slam a frying pan (this is a kitchen right?) on my head.
3. Go to www.yorch.net, check mark on all appropriate options, then (since I have to Unix box and dont know Unix at all) just go for the easy option of cooking the .exe install file.
4. Assuming, the .exe is downloaded to my PC. This time I just run it. I expect this to be just like installing PPC apps. If not, throw a tomato on my face
5. Assuming everything worked and Murphy's in the Arctic freezing his A**e off, then all I do now is hard reset.
6. I have a new ROM and I'm singing happy-happy-joy-joy.
To the wonderful people at xda-developers, am I in the right direction or am I as lost as Bill and Ted? If I'm lost, is there a step-by-step guide for non-unix programmers? (Sorry, there was a sticky but I thought it was for people with Unix boxes)
Once again, thanks for all your help and your patience.

well i can think of one thing to backup and thats your current rom
so if you dont like the new rom you are getting you have the option to go back
of cause if the rom you have now is downloadble from a place you know like your isp then maybe it dont matter
Thanks for the reply. That's a good point. Question: When you back up old ROM, is it just the ROM that gets backed up or is it the whole content of the device, like how you do in PCs?
Also, since no one, besides you, has made any comments regarding the steps that I outlined, is it safe to say that they are the correct steps?
Thanks
When you backup your ROM, no stuff that you customised will be in the backup - the backed up ROM will be the same as when you received it from your retail shop, or if you upgraded, it will be the upgraded ROM without any of your stuff. Do a backup and store it on your hard disk.
DON'T use the .exe cooked ROM, use a .nb1 or .nbf, and use XDA Tools from this site to do the upgrade. It's very easy that way, and less dangerous. Don't upgrade your radio stack unless you know exactly what you're doing, or your phone supplier has made an update available just for you.
If you use a T-Mobile ROM above version 4.00.05 it blocks the XDA-Tools from updating the ROM. At that point you need to use XDARIT (from this site) to low-level write the ROM image you have onto your SD card using an SD card reader which shows the card as another drive on your computer. Once you do that you need to boot into the boot-loader (press the reset button while holding the power button) and follow the prompts to restore from an SD card. If you're unlucky and are running bootloader 5.17 (or above I think) you need to write the bootloader diagnostics patch (wallaby patch from this site) onto your SD card first before doing the boot into the bootloader thing. You can then remove the SD card, write the O/S ROM onto it with XDRIT, and put it back into your phone while it's still sitting on in diagnostics mode. Then you can restore from the SD.
It sounds complicated, but it's easy, as long as you have an SD card reader, and as long as you don't mess with trying to update the bootloader or do an unknown radio update. There's lots of info in these forums if you get stuck.
I made a thread that summarised all the steps using the new tools and ROM's at this address : http://xda-developers.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=3860. It's for Asian/European users, but if you are in the US the instructions are the same, except instead of using European 900/1800 radio you use 900/1900.
Further questions on ROM update
Thanks. It's becoming clearer and clearer. Have more clarifying questions:
1. How do you know whether or not you're including the radio stack with the ROM upgrade at yorch.net. I did not see any options there.
2. At www. yorch.net, nothing happens when I press the "Build ROM Now" command button. Is the download supposed to happen in the background or is there something wrong with my PC or the site?
3. I dont think I'm using the T-mobile ROM but how do I know if I'm runing bootloader 5.17? Is bootloader 5.17 only for T-Mobile users or all?
Once again, thanks for the help and bearing with a newbie.

it should start to write some text about the progress of making the rom
and when it's finished then it should init a std download dialog
The meter down at the status bar does move, same as when you're loading a webpage, then it says Done. That's about it. Didnt see any other messages or dialogue boxes.
Can anyone confirm if it's up today or has it been down?
Thanks
PS. Tried to email using the email utility at the website but getting errors there as well.
OK, firstly to answer your question about Yorch's site... well it worked for me in getting all the ROM's I wanted, then when I went back again the download didn't work. I guess it's just on and off, so unless Yorch finishes getting married or someone else makes another kitchen it's a matter of pot luck. You can get away without using the kitchen if you can find another download source for ROM's, whether it be FTP or whatever. Just remember if you get an exe you can usually pull it apart with winzip to get the .nb1 or .nbf out of it.
Now, for Q1 :
An operating system ROM is generally just under 32MB, but when zipped from Yorch it's usually about 14 or 15MB - the operating system ROM will NEVER be smaller than that. I'm not sure about the exact radio stack size but I know it's a lot less than that. Also, doing some homework about the operating system ROM helps. eg. reading about the 4.01.00 ROM tells you that it's not a radio stack upgrade, it's an operating system upgrade - and the filename and the size of the file you receive reflects that.
Q2:
answered above...
Q3:
I think the bootloader is just pot-luck depending on when you phone was released. To check your bootloader it will reset your device completely, but I read somewhere that if you turn the radio (phone) off it doesn't hard reset. If you're worried, do a full backup first. But basically when you're ready to look, reset your phone while holding the power button and it will tell you the bootloader version. Don't be too turned off by that, I have read that SD card readers can be picked up very cheap if you look around, and that's all you need to get you out of trouble regardless of the bootloader version.
There's no real risk (but I won't guarantee anything), just make sure your phone is fully charged before mucking about with SD upgrades. Also make sure the radio (phone) is switched off before upgrading... using the bootloader/sd card method you shouldn't need to be concerned. I'm not sure what effect having your phone on and receiving a call while using XDA-Tools can have, but someone did mention it somewhere.
I'm a newbie too, but there's really not much you need to know, just a few caveats.
Yorch's Kitchen has been working OK for me the last couple of days. It takes maybe about 5 mins to "cook" before telling me that the ROM is ready. The 4.00.05 ROM gave me a lot of ActiveSync problems, so I went to the 4.00.16 ROM tonight and it looks like it's behaving better.
My SD reader is a Microtech Zio. It appears as a disk drive in windows, but the newer XDArit can't initialize a connection to write to the SD card. I used the "dangerous" older version of XDArit instead (available on Yorch's site), and it's worked OK for me (so far?).
One thing I wish I had realized before I started playing - going into the bootloader will reset your phone most (some?) (all?) of the time.
While I was flashing the ROM tonight I could see the GSM light flashing - I had the same "hope no one calls" feeling tht others must have had. Note that this was while I was flashing from an SD card in the bootloader - so apparently the process doesn't deactivate the phone while it's ongoing.
Muchas Gracias!
Ebswift, if ur a newbie then ur the god of the newbies. Thanks for all the help and for making me see the light. Much appreciated...
A quick Q:
Is the process for installing an .nbf file the same as that for installing an .nb1 file?
I have cooked a few ROMS to an .nb1 format and installed those OK, but now I have one in .nbf that I'd like to install.
So what I'd plan to do is put the nbf onto an SD card using XDArit, and then stick the card in the PPCPE and reboot to the loader. Is that it?

You can do it that way (onto the SD card), or if you're not already using a T-Mobile ROM you can use XDA Tools which is easier. Basically the capabilities are spelled out for you with the available file types in the drop downs when you select a source.

Wifi blocked by Orange (France)

Hi there.
I've just bought a Touch 3g with Orange in France, and even though the box has WiFi written all over it, it appears that I can only connect to Orange WiFi hubs. I have a different hub at home and would like to know whether I can unlock the WiFi function so that it is free to work with any WiFi connection.
I've had a look on here and can't find the answer to my question. I apologise in advance if I've missed the thread somewhere.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
PS - As someone new to this geek lark, I'd also be interested in knowing what programs I really ought to install onto the phone. You're top 5 programmes if you like.
The orange branded phones (if they are the same as the uk ones) have the unique manager not the standard wifi one. So even if you have an orange wifi hub you still don't get a wifi connection (at least not one you can do anything useful with)
Unique is a wierd orange version of voip.
The only way of changing it (i think) would be to flash a new rom to the phone.
Hi,
I got a French Orange phone too that I have flashed to non-Orange ROM, so Wifi works OK.
For programs I would recommend SBP Mobile Shell to replace Touch Flo, and TrackMe to have fun with the GPS ( I find it awesome).
Bonne chance
TrackMe does not work on my Jade (.net 3.5 installed), but I can recommend GPS Cycle Computer as well. Supports a lot of data formats, check the link or the xda-dev-thread for more information.
Thanks very much for all your help. I'll have a look at flashing the ROM and will give that a go.
Is flashing Rom a particularly complicated or potentially phone breaking experience? It's my wife's new phone, and I don't want to live with an angry woman whose phone no longer works

No it's not complicated ; yes is very much potentially phone breaking
FYI I flashed HardSPLv3 on my phone (see Jade ROM forum) , downloaded the kitchen (idem), built a ROM using htcrt (in the kitchen) and the OS.nb found here http://www.planete-htc.com/index.php?mod=forum&ac=voir&ref=20&cat=220&id=18955, and flashed it. And tada, a stock french phone with wifi access.
Your SPL/ROM will degrade from 1.7 to 1.4 though.
OK. Thanks Gomi. I'll have a look and see if I really want to risk it or not.
Hello @ll.
I have a french Orange Jade too.
The UMA radio ROM make me sick !
But for me, the HardSPL does not work... The RUU progressbar still blocked at 0%.
fyi : I have the SPL 1.71.000 version.
Concerning the HardSPL, i'm not using the original exe, because of the unavailablity of the "server". I use an extracted nbh file of the HardSPLV3.
Any idee ?
fyi : because of specifity of the RUU used to flash the HardSPL, you can not use an another RUU to flash it.
With luck, the HardSPL setup exe have found the server, and now, all is ok !
Hi mate and welcome to the slippery slope. I only have Dad to convert now...
There may be another way to prevent the Orange rubbish crippling your phone - when you do a hard reset your phone will give you three seconds after the first boot-up before it begins to customise the ROM with all the operator-specific stuff. If you do a soft reset within those three seconds you prevent the customisation. If the crippled WiFi is part of this customisation then you'll end up with the default Windows Mobile WiFi manager. This trick used to work on my Universal and my Elf. You can experiment with many hard resets until you get it right.
Having created a vanilla Windows Mobile system you may need to fanny around unlocking the extended ROM and cherry-picking the customisations that you do want (such as the GPRS connection data) but this effort might be worth it to have an unbranded phone.
Flashing a new ROM will almost certainly invalidate your warranty.
(Oh, and a hard reset will wipe off all your data of course.)
Thanks SiliconS.
Have tried that and I don't get the 3 second warning. I just get a message saying that this will wipe the phone (hard reset) and asks me to press 'enter' to continue (which I obviously do). It then tells me:
Format FAT partition
FAT partition complete
before carrying on with all the Orange stuff. Have tried randomly pressing soft reset at various times, and all this does is turn the phone off...
Thanks anyway though.
That's weird. In that case Orange must have embedded their rubbish within the fundamental ROM rather than the extended ROM like everybody else does.
Flashing a completely new ROM may be your only hope, Luke. HTC have released an official ROM for the Jade that surely wouldn't invalidate your warranty...
http://www.htc.com/www/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=174&cat=2&dl_id=537
I think an official ROM update could be the way forward yeah. I'll have a look this weekend maybe.
for the benefit of people who may be subscribed to this thread, I think I have found a fix for the orange rom using data connection instead of wifi, read on here:-

post back to that thread if it works for you!

Can't seem to install anything on ATT Pure...

I can sync and copy files like several of the cabs from this site to the phone Storage card or My Documents in the phone and when I try and run any of them I always get an Unsuccessful .
is the ATT Pure Application locked? I did notice that all the applications I am running are not digitally signed or signed by a trusted provider and the phone complains and ask if if I still want to run. I pick yes and it still fails.
Any thoughts? I know some of you have ATT Pure devices!
FIXED
I did this and all is working...
1. Deleted my partnership with my laptop (Win 7 64bit)
2. boot my ATT Pure
3. Connect but dont establish partnership
4. copy over the cab files you want
5. use file explorer on the Topaz (Pure) to run them
6. all works fine!
7. loading EnergyROM now
the lesson to be learned if it does not work for you and it works for everyone else then go back to the basics!
Welcome to AT&T... yes all branded phones are app locked because they want to force you to use their apps.
You can app unlock it using a cab install... but some new phones are even rejecting that.
Official and Custom roms are the way to go. I recommend everyone with a Pure to at least flash to the newest Official WM6.5 build. It will work just the same but be clean of AT&T junk.
I have an AT&T Pure
I have no particular problems with installing Cabs
As another poster said copy the cab to a temp directory
and run it from File Explorer (delete the cab to save space after its been run)
Or you can use "CabviaActivesync" availabele on this site which makes it a little bit easier. (but I did have two cabs that had bad setups and needed manual install)
Bottom line the PURE does not block most cabs (I've tried)
(I only had a problem with the write protected weathercity database now ok)
Chances are something is wrong on your Pure or your method
To the senior poster that replied
Hey I've made tweeks and played with the stock ROM
I'd love to clean the bloated and unused ATT aps
incorporate weather into the clock ( TF3D 2.5+++)
and get a cleaner start menu (too many aps)
and certainly see an improvement in performance and snappiness
Id love to try a new ROM
but most new roms are written for Diamond2/Topaz
I'm not clear if the radios are the same on the the D2 and the Pure?
Can I burn WM and TF3D without affecting the radio part of the code?
Are the any other issues we need to be aware before we burn a new Topaz rom
onto an ATT variant of the Topaz ?
Is there a copy of the original Pure Rom available in case we need to return
it to ATT (what else would we need to insure we could return to ATT to fix any other later warrenty covered problems)
Of course I realize there is a risk invilved,
but whats the best safety prep?
I'm new to phones but an old micro hard/firm/soft ware and PPC guy
Thanks in advance
KJL
I haven't had a single problem installing anything on my stock Pure. Even software that normally requires an app-unlocked phone installs just fine.
I'm also curious about what Kenn asked. I'm getting a Pure tomorrow and I won't be able to get the crapware off there fast enough.
Specifically, can I flash the official HTC 6.5 rom to the Pure without having to hard spl? Is is just a straight flash?
I have the same problem with this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5743820#post5743820
Everything is OK but installing the cabs.
When I try to install any cab it wrote me "Instalation of ... was unsuccessful."
I tried a lot of cabs and all of them are the same
Any help please?
.
This particular problem gave me 4 day headache last week when i couldn't figure out why I couldn't HSPL my Pure. Had to Hard Reset entire phone, everything worked
Yes, I also hard-reseted my phone yesterday and everything works now!

[Q] unlock problem

I know this has been covered loads, but im not exactly a computer genius but ive been at this for 4 hours now and its getting annoying...
ive installed the LEO70 rom on my HD2 installed chevron and Tom XAP installer and dev. tool kit etc following all the guides i could find...
Now when i go to unlock it in chevron it only gives the option to re-lock so i assume its already unlocked (ive tried re-locking it and un-locking again which failed so i re flashed...thank god for hspl and magloader....)
the problem is when i try to install any of the XAP stuff the tom XAP installer says:-
error connection: make sure phone is unlocked
and make sure usb is connected and zune is connected
yes yes and yes.....
im now super confused and wondering why i bothered lol,
im running XP by the way and havent been able to get an activation code yet....
Am i being stupid or have i done something obviously wrong??
again sorry for posting about a well covered subject but i still cannot find an answer to my problem
thanks for any help
Just to add, now the thing keeps resetting itself hard reset style lost all my contacts etc time and date etc ,
Could it be a duff rom causing all this?
well the resetting is a common SD issue, your card isnt compatible
as for XAPs, i dont use that, i use the appliaction deployer with the development tools, however i do know that if i try and do it without admin mode it will not work
course, your still using XP as well which complicates things a bit and again its not something i use any more so i cant be of any more help im affraid.
your SD issue tho is fixable, you could try formatting the card first in a digital camera or you will need to get a new card.
Go for a class 2 or 4 card, ignore any threads saying "this card works" yes it works for them but perhaps not for you, its very much down to luck
Thanks for the advice bud, I've popped the sd card out and it seems to be more stable bow but my main problem is the unlocking, is there any alternative software to unlock? And what developer loading thing do you use if not Tom xap loader ( I'm having trouble finding alternatives to try
Thanks for the help

Did you get the windows phone developer tools installed?, i think your post said you did, in your start menu you will find a menu for Windows Phone developer Tools, in there you will see an application deployment program
I use that but i have to run it in Admin mode, once its started it allows you to install an XAP to a emulator or a device, select a device (make sure its connected to zune) and locate the XAP.
ive never used that tom installer thing so cant really help you much with that.
as for the SD thing, without an SD it will lag quite a bit, buy what you can afford and dont buy something you wouldnt mind turning in to a tiny wee paper weight, ie dont go folk out for 32GB card when it might not work, 8 seems to be a good size to price card, again stick to a class 2 or 4
oh i forgot to ask, did you use one of the pre-unlocked ROMs out there or did you use the original DFT one?
got the dev tools yes, didnt know where it went though or what it did lol....
i tried it withouth the SD and it still changed the time and stuff all by itself (assuming it crashed in my pocket)
the rom i used is called HD2O_1.04_DFT_LEO70_RELEASE, i dont know how to tell if they were pre unlocked etc (i did look but couldnt see anything) is there any rom you would recommend?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944995
try that one, i dont normally suggest modded ROMs the DFT one is fine, but if someone is having issues with unlocking then they are much easier to get working
right i got another ROM from the development section (ill try that one next if i have problems) loaded that up got it all working with the missus laptop (windows 7 instead of xp) got all my contacts on there and even got the activation code through microsoft support chat.... runs smooth etc now i just need a new sd card (its crashed once already and im running an old 2gb card)
the thing that does my head in with the crashing is that it sets the clock to 00:00 and the date to 1980!!! gotta get a new card soon as i use my phone as my alarm to get up for work... doh....
Thanks for the support though bud, much appreciated,
one last thing, when i get the new card i take it i cant just take one out and put the other in as if i boot without my sd card the phone has no settings or contacts etc..... do you have to copy the card info accross or something??

the thing that does my head in with the crashing is that it sets the clock to 00:00 and the date to 1980!!! gotta get a new card soon as i use my phone as my alarm to get up for work... doh....
Thanks for the support though bud, much appreciated,
one last thing, when i get the new card i take it i cant just take one out and put the other in as if i boot without my sd card the phone has no settings or contacts etc..... do you have to copy the card info accross or something??

technically its possible to use a partitioning program to clone the old SD card to the new one, ive not tried it, i think for the sake of simplicity, i would just reinstall it, you will lose you programs and SMS messages, paid for programs are still paid for, but you will need to locate them of the marketplace again.

Cannot download from windows market after activation

Hello forum,
I am very new here. This is the first time I tried installing windows 7 rom on my phone and I am so glad that XDA community have made it so easy to do it. I installed PDAimatejam 7.5 tango latest rom posted in the forums. After installing the rom i setup everything and went to market but could not download anything it required activation code. So i got one from microsoft and entered it. The phone got activated however I still cant download from market. It goes to setup market account window and then fails to do so and gives me error code 8000FFFF. Any ideas?
Thanks a lot.
try with WiFi not cellular data...
if problem continue, make hard reset (settings - about - reset) and try enter Live ID again

your card is locked if you tried Yuki (BTTF) ROM... this rom is only which lock card.. if you not use Yuki ROM then simply is compatibility problem (card not damaged, you still can use it)....
if you locked card then first unlock it with sending DEV_STORAGELOCK.cab file to phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1250869
then format it with
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/sdfmt3_1.zip
install and run, in option select "format size adjustment" to ON, format card
also if you have old Nokia symbian phone you can try format locked card (just skip when ask for unlock code)

Thanks I am trying that now. Btw what is the reason i cannot access market>? even after my device is activated. I think I will go back to android. Loved the interface though. This was my first time on windows mobile and i loved it really. I cannot access market so I think I will be missing a lot of things. I will give it a last try and then go back to android if I am unsuccessful yet again. In the mean time please keep posting ur suggestions. Really appreciate it. Thanks
first time in most case marketplace work sometimes you need to wait...
no rules...
also is better to use WiFi internet connection not data connection
also be sure you have hardware radio 2.12 or 1.15 flashed on phone..
also dont forget, HD2 device is not original WP7 device and anything can happen... also almost all problems with WP7 is related to incompatibility with SDcard...

Thanks. I had installed yuki to check if i could download from market.but it did not so i reverted back to pdaimatejam rom just to get sd card damaged message on first boot so I tried like what you said, installed yuki again so i could unlock the card and its giving me the same message on first boot too.
boot to magldr menu
* 10. Services, 4. UseLast24NAND
* 10. Services, 5. ClearSD MDR
* go to 5. USB Flasher and try flash Yuki ROM again
phone after flash must start WP7 and the you send cab file for unlock... this is only way to unlock card without old Nokia phone
p.s.
here list of confirmed phones for unlock locked cards

Yup thanks a lot. I did as you said and my sd in unlocked and i am back to pda rom. But still no market . I tried using wifi. but still cannot access it. It cannot detect my region. Right now Im in thailand. Could that be a reson? Market is not supported in Thailand? It tries to detect my region and then gives me error code 8000fffff. Ill wait till tomorrow and see if things get better. Anyway thanks a lot!!!! you guys rock.:good:
Thailand have marketplace
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/th-th/default.aspx
also go to settings - region+language and check region
maybe your Live ID already locked to other region? then maybe to open new Live ID? to change Live ID, go to Settngs - about - reset (this is hard reset) and after restart setup new account

I tried that. Made a new live id itself before activating the phone and used that one. but still i get error message when its trying to setup my marketplace. It says loading in country list then gives me error msg and asks to try later. Someone was telling me abt chaveron unlock or something like that? And what does market fix mean in this PDA rom? I thought market would be working out of the box. The version of windows is 7.10.8779.8. Everything is working like a charm except market . The phone is so snappy that I just dont want to go back to android. Will that chevron unlock thing help me? I dont want to try without asking because yuki rom already gave me enough trouble .
I feel so ashamed to bother a lot, but I know nothing about windows phone and I just cant get past this market thing. Thankyou very much for all your suggestions. Please if you dont mind do keep suggesting me some ideas untill i fix this damn thing.
forget chevron unlock... this is very old way unlock and not working with new ROM's... now all ROM's are full unlocked and this is 100% better than old chevron unlock
did you sync phone with Zune?
if nothing helps, try use US English marketplace... dont have any other suggestion...
